Let $\bf M$ be a smooth compact oriented Riemannian manifold, and let $Δ_{\bf M}$ be the Laplace-Beltrami operator on ${\bf M}$. Say $0 \neq f \in \mathcal{S}(\RR^+)$, and that $f(0) = 0$. For $t > 0$, let $K_t(x,y)$ denote the kernel of $f(t^2 Δ_{\bf M})$. We show that $K_t$ is well-localized near the diagonal, in the sense that it satisfies estimates akin to those satisfied by the kernel of the convolution operator $f(t^2Δ)$ on $\RR^n$. We define continuous ${\cal S}$-wavelets on ${\bf M}$, in such a manner that $K_t(x,y)$ satisfies this definition, because of its localization near the diagonal. Continuous ${\cal S}$-wavelets on ${\bf M}$ are analogous to continuous wavelets on $\RR^n$ in $\mathcal{S}(\RR^n)$. In particular, we are able to characterize the H$\ddot{o}$lder continuous functions on ${\bf M}$ by the size of their continuous ${\mathcal{S}}-$wavelet transforms, for H$\ddot{o}$lder exponents strictly between 0 and 1. If $\bf M$ is the torus $\TT^2$ or the sphere $S^2$, and $f(s)=se^{-s}$ (the ``Mexican hat'' situation), we obtain two explicit approximate formulas for $K_t$, one to be used when $t$ is large, and one to be used when $t$ is small.
We construct Parseval wavelet frames in $L^2(M)$ for a general Riemannian manifold $M$ and we show the existence of wavelet unconditional frames in $L^p(M)$ for $1 < p <\infty$. This is made possible thanks to smooth orthogonal projection decomposition of the identity operator on $L^2(M)$, which was recently proven by the authors in arXiv:1803.03634. We also show a characterization of Triebel-Lizorkin $\mathbf F_{p,q}^s(M)$ and Besov $\mathbf B_{p,q}^s(M)$ spaces on compact manifolds in terms of magnitudes of coefficients of Parseval wavelet frames. We achieve this by showing that Hestenes ope…
Analysis on the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^{2}$ found many applications in seismology, weather prediction, astrophysics, signal analysis, crystallography, computer vision, computerized tomography, neuroscience, and statistics. In the last two decades, the importance of these and other applications triggered the development of various tools such as splines and wavelet bases suitable for the unit spheres $\mathbb{S}^{2}$, $\>\>\mathbb{S}^{3}$ and the rotation group $SO(3)$. Present paper is a summary of some of results of the author and his collaborators on generalized (average) variational splines…
In this paper a simple method of construction of scaling function $ϕ(x)$ and orthogonal wavelets with the compact support for any natural coefficient of scaling $N\ge 2$ is given. Examples of construction of wavelets for coefficients of scaling N=2 and N=3 are produced.
By using a coset of closed subgroup, we define a Fourier like transform for locally compact abelian (LCA) topological groups. We studied two wavelet multipliers and Landau-Pollak-Slepian operators on locally compact abelian topological groups associated to the transform and show that the transforms are $L^p$bounded linear operators, and are in Schatten p-class for $1\leq p\leq \infty$. Finally, we determine their trace class and also obtain a connection with the generalized Landau-Pollak-Slepian operators.
This paper is devoted to the study of geometry properties of wavelet and Riesz wavelet sets on locally compact abelian groups. The catalyst for our research is a result by Wang ([32], Theorem 1.1) in the Euclidean wavelet theory. Here, we extend the result to wavelet and Riesz wavelet collection of sets in infinite locally compact abelian groups.
Let $d\geq 1$ be a natural number and $A_0$ be a $d\times d$ expansive integral matrix with determinant $\pm 2.$ Then $A_0$ is integrally similar to an integral matrix $A$ with certain additional properties. A finite solution to the system of equations associated with the matrix $A$ will result in an iterated sequence $\{Ψ^k χ_{[0,1)^d}\}$ that converges to a function $φ_A$ in $L^2(\R^d)$-norm. With this (scaling) function $φ_A,$ we will construct the Parseval's wavelet function $ψ$ with compact support associated with matrix $A_0.$
We investigate the wavelet spaces $\mathcal{W}_{g}(\mathcal{H}_π)\subset L^{2}(G)$ arising from square integrable representations $π:G \to \mathcal{U}(\mathcal{H}_π)$ of a locally compact group $G$. We show that the wavelet spaces are rigid in the sense that non-trivial intersection between them imposes strong conditions. Moreover, we use this to derive consequences for wavelet transforms related to convexity and functions of positive type. Motivated by the reproducing kernel Hilbert space structure of wavelet spaces we examine an interpolation problem. In the setting of time-frequency analysi…
The aim of this exposition is to explain basic ideas behind the concept of diffusive wavelets on spheres in the language of representation theory of Lie groups and within the framework of the group Fourier transform given by Peter-Weyl decomposition of $L^2(G)$ for a compact Lie group $G$. After developing a general concept for compact groups and their homogeneous spaces we give concrete examples for tori -which reflect the situation on $R^n$- and for spheres $S^2$ and $S^3$.
In the last decade, methods based on various kinds of spherical wavelet bases have found applications in virtually all areas where analysis of spherical data is required, including cosmology, weather prediction, and geodesy. In particular, the so-called needlets (=band-limited Parseval frames) have become an important tool for the analysis of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) temperature data. The goal of the present paper is to construct band-limited and highly localized Parseval frames on general compact homogeneous manifolds. Our construction can be considered as an analogue of the well-kno…

Using the Daubechies conditions of compact support, orthogonal, and regularity, we were able to derive bivariate scaling functions with which to reproduce linear functions (planes). We describe how to create all possible masks of refinement coefficients that satisfy those conditions.
The continuous wavelet transform has become a widely used tool in applied science during the last decade. In this article we discuss some generalizations coming from actions of closed subgroups of $\mathrm{GL}(n,\mathbb{R})$ acting on $\mathbb{R}^n$. In particular, we propose a way to invert the wavelet transform in the case where the stabilizer of a generic point in $\mathbb{R}^n$ is not compact, but a symmetric subgroup, a case that has not previously been discussed in the literature.
This paper presents a full catalogue, up to conjugacy and subgroups of finite index, of all matrix groups $H < {\rm GL}(3,\mathbb{R})$ that give rise to a continuous wavelet transform with associated irreducible quasi-regular representation. For each group in this class, coorbit theory allows to consistently define spaces of sparse signals, and to construct atomic decompositions converging simultaneously in a whole range of these spaces. As an application of the classification, we investigate the existence of compactly supported admissible vectors and atoms for the groups.
We introduce a construction of multiscale tight frames on general domains. The frame elements are obtained by spectral filtering of the integral operator associated with a reproducing kernel. Our construction extends classical wavelets as well as generalized wavelets on both continuous and discrete non-Euclidean structures such as Riemannian manifolds and weighted graphs. Moreover, it allows to study the relation between continuous and discrete frames in a random sampling regime, where discrete frames can be seen as Monte Carlo estimates of the continuous ones. Pairing spectral regularization …
