We construct Parseval wavelet frames in $L^2(M)$ for a general Riemannian manifold $M$ and we show the existence of wavelet unconditional frames in $L^p(M)$ for $1 < p <\infty$. This is made possible thanks to smooth orthogonal projection decomposition of the identity operator on $L^2(M)$, which was recently proven by the authors in arXiv:1803.03634. We also show a characterization of Triebel-Lizorkin $\mathbf F_{p,q}^s(M)$ and Besov $\mathbf B_{p,q}^s(M)$ spaces on compact manifolds in terms of magnitudes of coefficients of Parseval wavelet frames. We achieve this by showing that Hestenes operators are bounded on manifolds $M$ with bounded geometry.
In this article we establish theory of semi-orthogonal Parseval wavelets associated to generalized multiresolution analysis (GMRA) for the local field of positive characteristics (LFPC). By employing the properties of translation invariant spaces on the core space of GMRA we obtain a characterization of semi-orthogonal Parseval wavelets in terms of consistency equation for LFPC. As a consequence, we obtain a characterization of an orthonormal (multi)wavelet to be associated with an MRA in terms of multiplicity function as well as dimension function of a (multi)wavelet. Further, we provide char…
We prove that any Parseval wavelet frame is the projection of an orthonormal wavelet basis for a representation of the Baumslag-Solitar group $$BS(1,2)=< u,t | utu^{-1}=t^2>.$$ We give a precise description of this representation in some special cases, and show that for wavelet sets, it is related to symbolic dynamics. We show that the structure of the representation depends on the analysis of certain finite orbits for the associated symbolic dynamics. We give concrete examples of Parseval wavelets for which we compute the orthonormal dilations in detail; we show that there are examples of Par…
In the framework of wave packet analysis, finite wavelet systems are particular classes of finite wave packet systems. In this paper, using a scaling matrix on a permuted version of the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) of system generator, we derive a locally-scaled version of the DFT of system genarator and obtain a finite equal-norm Parseval wavelet frame over prime fields. We also give a characterization of all multiplicative subgroups of the cyclic multiplicative group, for which the associated wavelet systems form frames. Finally, we present some concrete examples as applications of our r…
Wavelet set wavelets were the first examples of wavelets that may not have associated multiresolution analyses. Furthermore, they provided examples of complete orthonormal wavelet systems in $L^2(\mathbb{R}^d)$ which only require a single generating wavelet. Although work had been done to smooth these wavelets, which are by definition discontinuous on the frequency domain, nothing had been explicitly done over $\mathbb{R}^d$, $d >1$. This paper, along with another one cowritten by the author, finally addresses this issue. Smoothing does not work as expected in higher dimensions. For example, B…
The concept of super-wavelet was introduced by Balan, and Han and Larson over the field of real numbers which has many applications not only in engineering branches but also in different areas of mathematics. To develop this notion on local fields having positive characteristic we obtain characterizations of super-wavelets of finite length as well as Parseval frame multiwavelet sets of finite order in this setup. Using the group theoretical approach based on coset representatives, further we establish Shannon type multiwavelet in this perspective while providing examples of Parseval frame (mul…
Let $d\geq 1$ be a natural number and $A_0$ be a $d\times d$ expansive integral matrix with determinant $\pm 2.$ Then $A_0$ is integrally similar to an integral matrix $A$ with certain additional properties. A finite solution to the system of equations associated with the matrix $A$ will result in an iterated sequence $\{Ψ^k χ_{[0,1)^d}\}$ that converges to a function $φ_A$ in $L^2(\R^d)$-norm. With this (scaling) function $φ_A,$ we will construct the Parseval's wavelet function $ψ$ with compact support associated with matrix $A_0.$
The objective of this article is to describe a construction of Parseval bandlimited and localized frames on sub-Riemannian compact homogeneous manifolds.
Motivated by Bownik and Speegle's result on linear independence of wavelet Parseval frames, we consider affine systems (analogous to wavelet systems) defined on a second countable, locally compact abelian group $G$, where the translations are replaced by the action of a countable, discrete subgroup $Γ$ of $ G$ acting as a group of unitary operators on $L^2(G)$. The dilation operation in the wavelet setting is replaced by integer powers of a unitary operator $δ$ onto $L^2(G)$. We show that, under some compatibility conditions between $δ$ and the action of the group $Γ$, the linear independence …
In this work we introduce a class of discrete groups containing subgroups of abstract translations and dilations, respectively. A variety of wavelet systems can appear as $π(\G)ψ$, where $π$ is a unitary representation of a wavelet group and $\G$ is the abstract pseudo-lattice $\G$. We prove a condition in order that a Parseval frame $π(\G)ψ$ can be dilated to an orthonormal basis of the form $τ(\G)Ψ$ where $τ$ is a super-representation of $π$. For a subclass of groups that includes the case where the translation subgroup is Heisenberg, we show that this condition always holds, and we cite fam…
We study singly-generated wavelet systems on $\Bbb R^2$ that are naturally associated with rank-one wavelet systems on the Heisenberg group $N$. We prove a necessary condition on the generator in order that any such system be a Parseval frame. Given a suitable subset $I$ of the dual of $N$, we give an explicit construction for Parseval frame wavelets that are associated with $I$. We say that $g\in L^2(I\times \Bbb R)$ is Gabor field over $I$ if, for a.e. $λ\in I$, $|λ|^{1/2} g(λ,\cdot)$ is the Gabor generator of a Parseval frame for $L^2(\Bbb R)$, and that $I$ is a Heisenberg wavelet set if ev…
We establish dilation theorems for non-tight frames with additional structure, i.e., frames generated by unitary groups of operators and projective unitary representations. This generalizes previous dilation results for Parseval frames due to Han and Larson and Gabardo and Han. We also extend the dilation theorem for Parseval wavelets, due to Dutkay, Han, Picioroaga, and Sun , by identifying the optimal class of frame wavelets for which dilation into an orthonormal wavelet is possible.
We generalize the Second Oversampling Theorem for wavelet frames and dual wavelet frames from the setting of integer dilations to real dilations. We also study the relationship between dilation matrix oversampling of semi-orthogonal Parseval wavelet frames and the additional shift invariance gain of the core subspace.
Parseval frames can be thought of as redundant or linearly dependent coordinate systems for Hilbert spaces, and have important applications in such areas as signal processing, data compression, and sampling theory. We extend the notion of a Parseval frame for a fixed Hilbert space to that of a moving Parseval frame for a vector bundle over a manifold. Many vector bundles do not have a moving basis, but in contrast to this every vector bundle over a paracompact manifold has a moving Parseval frame. We prove that a sequence of sections of a vector bundle is a moving Parseval frame if and only if…
Pseudo-splines of integer order $(m,\ell)$ were introduced by Daubechies, Han, Ron, and Shen as a family which allows interpolation between the classical B-splines and the Daubechies' scaling functions. The purpose of this paper is to generalize the pseudo-splines to fractional and complex orders $(z, \ell)$ with $α:=\re z > 1$. This allows increased flexibility in regard to smoothness: instead of working with a discrete family of functions from $C^m$, $m\in \N_0$, one uses a \emph{continuous} family of functions belonging to the Hölder spaces $C^{α-1}$. The presence of the imaginary part of $…
A family of Parseval periodic wavelet frames is constructed. The family has optimal time-frequency localization (in the sense of the Breitenberger uncertainty constant) with respect to a family parameter and it has the best currently known localization with respect to a multiresolution analysis parameter.
In the last decade, methods based on various kinds of spherical wavelet bases have found applications in virtually all areas where analysis of spherical data is required, including cosmology, weather prediction, and geodesy. In particular, the so-called needlets (=band-limited Parseval frames) have become an important tool for the analysis of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) temperature data. The goal of the present paper is to construct band-limited and highly localized Parseval frames on general compact homogeneous manifolds. Our construction can be considered as an analogue of the well-kno…
Our article is a summary of some results for Riemannian manifolds that were obtained in \cite{gpes}-\cite{Pesssubm}. To the best of our knowledge these are the pioneering papers which contain the most general results about frames, Shannon sampling, and cubature formulas on compact and non-compact Riemannian manifolds. In particular, the paper \cite{gpes} gives an "end point" construction of tight localized frames on homogeneous compact manifolds. The paper \cite{Pessubm} is the first systematic development of localized frames on compact domains in Euclidean spaces.

We introduce a construction of multiscale tight frames on general domains. The frame elements are obtained by spectral filtering of the integral operator associated with a reproducing kernel. Our construction extends classical wavelets as well as generalized wavelets on both continuous and discrete non-Euclidean structures such as Riemannian manifolds and weighted graphs. Moreover, it allows to study the relation between continuous and discrete frames in a random sampling regime, where discrete frames can be seen as Monte Carlo estimates of the continuous ones. Pairing spectral regularization …
This paper gives a survey of methods for the construction of space-frequency concentrated frames on Riemannian manifolds with bounded curvature, and the applications of these frames to the analysis of function spaces. In this general context, the notion of frequency is defined using the spectrum of a distinguished differential operator on the manifold, typically the Laplace-Beltrami operator. Our exposition starts with the case of the real line, which serves as motivation and blueprint for the material in the subsequent sections. After the discussion of the real line, our presentation starts o…
Let $\bf M$ be a smooth compact oriented Riemannian manifold, and let $Δ_{\bf M}$ be the Laplace-Beltrami operator on ${\bf M}$. Say $0 \neq f \in \mathcal{S}(\RR^+)$, and that $f(0) = 0$. For $t > 0$, let $K_t(x,y)$ denote the kernel of $f(t^2 Δ_{\bf M})$. We show that $K_t$ is well-localized near the diagonal, in the sense that it satisfies estimates akin to those satisfied by the kernel of the convolution operator $f(t^2Δ)$ on $\RR^n$. We define continuous ${\cal S}$-wavelets on ${\bf M}$, in such a manner that $K_t(x,y)$ satisfies this definition, because of its localization near the diago…
Let $\bf M$ be a smooth compact oriented Riemannian manifold, and let $Δ$ be the Laplace-Beltrami operator on ${\bf M}$. Say $0 \neq f \in \mathcal{S}(\RR^+)$, and that $f(0) = 0$. For $t > 0$, let $K_t(x,y)$ denote the kernel of $f(t^2 Δ)$. Suppose $f$ satisfies Daubechies' criterion, and $b > 0$. For each $j$, write ${\bf M}$ as a disjoint union of measurable sets $E_{j,k}$ with diameter at most $ba^j$, and comparable to $ba^j$ if $ba^j$ is sufficiently small. Take $x_{j,k} \in E_{j,k}$. We then show that the functions $ϕ_{j,k}(x)=[μ(E_{j,k})]^{1/2} \bar{K_{a^j}}(x_{j,k},x)$ form a frame for…
