We define a scale of L^q Carleson norms, all of which characterize the membership of a function in BMO. The phenomenon is analogous to the John-Nirenberg inequality, but on the level of Carleson measures. The classical Carleson condition corresponds to the L^2 case in our theory.
The result is applied to give a new proof for the L^p-boundedness of paraproducts with a BMO symbol. A novel feature of the argument is that all p are covered at once in a completely interpolation-free manner. This is achieved by using the L^1 Carleson norm, and indicates the usefulness of this notion. Our approach is chosen so that all these results extend in a natural way to the case of X-valued functions, where X is a Banach space with the UMD property.
In this work, we are interested to develop new directions of the famous T(1)-theorem. More precisely, we develop a general framework where we look for replacing the John-Nirenberg space BMO (in the classical result) by a new BMO_{L}, associated to a semigroup of operators (e^{-tL})_{t>0}. These new spaces BMO_L (including BMO) have recently appeared in numerous works in order to extend the theory of Hardy and BMO space to more general situations. Then we give applications by describing boundedness for a new kind of paraproducts, built on the considered semigroup. In addition we obtain a versio…
We study boundedness properties of a class of multiparameter paraproducts on the dual space of the dyadic Hardy space H_d^1(T^N), the dyadic product BMO space BMO_d(T^N). For this, we introduce a notion of logarithmic mean oscillation on the polydisc. We also obtain a result on the boundedness of iterated commutators on BMO([0,1]^2).
We consider BMO spaces of operator-valued functions, among them the space of operator-valued functions $B$ which define a bounded paraproduct on $L^2(H)$. We obtain several equivalent formulations of $\|π_B\|$ in terms of the norm of the "sweep" function of $B$ or of averages of the norms of martingales transforms of $B$ in related spaces. Furthermore, we investigate a connection between John-Nirenberg type inequalities and Carleson-type inequalities via a product formula for paraproducts and deduce sharp dimensional estimates for John-Nirenberg type inequalities.
We consider operators of the type $D^α:H^2(\mathcal{H})\to H^2(\mathcal{H})$, where $D^α$ denotes a fractional differentiation operator, and $Γ_ϕ$ is a Hankel operator. For $α>0$, we characterize boundedness in terms of a natural anti-analytic Carleson embedding condition. We obtain three notable corollaries. The first is that our main result does not extend to $α=0$, i.e. Nehari-Page BMOA is not characterized by the natural anti-analytic Carleson embedding condition. The second is that when we add an adjoint embedding condition, we obtain a sufficient but not necessary condition for boundedne…
We introduce a scale of weighted Carleson norms, which depend on an integrability parameter p, where p=2 corresponds to the classical Carleson measure condition. Relations between the weighed BMO norm of a vector-valued function f:R->X, and the Carleson norm of the sequence of its wavelet coefficients, are established. These extend the results of Harboure-Salinas-Viviani, also in the scalar-valued case when p is not 2.
We introduce another notion of bounded logarithmic mean oscillation in the N-torus and give an equivalent definition in terms of boundedness of multi-parameter paraproducts from the dyadic little BMO of Cotlar-Sadosky to the product BMO of Chang-Fefferman. We also obtain a sufficient condition for the boundedness of iterated commutators with Hilbert transforms betweeen the strong notions of these two spaces.
In this paper, we show that dyadic paraproducts $π_b$ with $b$ in dyadic BMO are bounded on matrix weighted $L^p(W)$ if $W$ is a matrix $\text{A}_p$ weight.
Let $X$ be a space of homogeneous type and let $L$ be a sectorial operator with bounded holomorphic functional calculus on $L^2(X)$. We assume that the semigroup $\{e^{-tL}\}_{t>0}$ satisfies Davies-Gaffney estimates. In this paper, we introduce a new type of paraproduct operators that is constructed via certain approximations of the identity associated to $L$. We show various boundedness properties on $L^p(X)$ and the recently developed Hardy and BMO spaces $H^p_L(X)$ and $BMO_L(X)$. In generalization of standard paraproducts constructed via convolution operators, we show $L^2(X)$ off-diagona…
Let $\mathcal{M}$ be a Riemannian $n$-manifold with a metric such that the manifold is Ahlfors-regular. We also assume either non-negative Ricci curvature, or that the Ricci curvature is bounded from below together with a bound on the gradient of the heat kernel. We characterize BMO-functions $u: \mathcal{M} \to \mathbb{R}$ by a Carleson measure condition of their $σ$-harmonic extension $U: \mathcal{M} \times (0,\infty) \to \mathbb{R}$. We make crucial use of a $T(b)$ theorem proved by Hofmann, Mitrea, Mitrea, and Morris. As an application we show that the famous theorem of Coifman--Lions--Mey…
This paper studies the relationship between vector-valued BMO functions and the Carleson measures defined by their gradients. Let $dA$ and $dm$ denote Lebesgue measures on the unit disc $D$ and the unit circle $\mathbb T$, respectively. For $1< q<\infty$ and a Banach space $B$ we prove that there exists a positive constant $c$ such that $$\sup_{z_0\in D}\int_{D}(1-|z|)^{q-1}\|\nabla f(z)\|^q P_{z_0}(z) dA(z) \le c^q\sup_{z_0\in D}\int_{\T}\|f(z)-f(z_0)\|^qP_{z_0}(z) dm(z)$$ holds for all trigonometric polynomials $f$ with coefficients in $B$ iff $B$ admits an equivalent norm which is $q$-unifo…
We consider the dyadic paraproducts $π_\f$ on $\T$ associated with an $\M$-valued function $\f.$ Here $\T$ is the unit circle and $\M$ is a tracial von Neumann algebra. We prove that their boundedness on $L^p(\T,L^p(\M))$ for some $1<p<\infty $ implies their boundedness on $L^p(\T,L^p(\M))$ for all $1<p<\infty$ provided $\f$ is in an operator-valued BMO space. We also consider a modified version of dyadic paraproducts and their boundedness on $L^p(\T,L^p(\M)).
The natural BMO (bounded mean oscillation) conditions suggested by scalar-valued results are known to be insufficient for the boundedness of operator-valued paraproducts. Accordingly, the boundedness of operator-valued singular integrals has only been available under versions of the classical ``$T(1)\in BMO$'' assumptions that are not easily checkable. Recently, Hong, Liu and Mei (J. Funct. Anal. 2020) observed that the situation improves remarkably for singular integrals with a symmetry assumption, so that a classical $T(1)$ criterion still guarantees their $L^2$-boundedness on Hilbert space …
The balayage of a Carleson measure lies of course in BMO. We show that the converse statement is false. We also make a two-sided estimate of the Carleson norm of a positive measure in terms of balayages.
We prove that for any homogeneous, second order, constant complex coefficient elliptic system $L$, the Dirichlet problem in $\mathbb{R}^{n}_{+}$ with boundary data in BMO is well-posed in the class of functions $u$ with $dμ_u(x',t):=|\nabla u(x',t)|^2\,t\,dx'dt$ being a Carleson measure. We establish a Fatou type theorem guaranteeing the existence of the pointwise nontangential boundary trace for smooth null-solutions $u$ of such systems satisfying the said Carleson measure condition. These imply that BMO can be characterized as the collection of nontangential pointwise traces of smooth null-s…
Let $μ$ be a nonnegative Borel measure on the open unit disk $\mathbb{D}\subset\mathbb{C}$. This note shows how to decide that the Möbius invariant space $\mathcal{Q}_p$, covering $\mathcal{BMOA}$ and $\mathcal{B}$, is boundedly (resp., compactly) embedded in the quadratic tent-type space $T^\infty_p(μ)$. Interestingly, the embedding result can be used to determine the boundedness (resp., the compactness) of the Volterra-type and multiplication operators on $\mathcal{Q}_p$.
Let $μ$ be a nonnegative Borel measure on the unit disk of the complex plane. We characterize those measures $μ$ such that the general family of spaces of analytic functions, $F(p,q,s)$, which contain many classical function spaces, including the Bloch space, $BMOA$ and the $Q_s$ spaces, are embedded boundedly or compactly into the tent-type spaces $T^{\infty}_{p,s}(μ)$. The results are applied to characterize boundedness and compactness of Riemann-Stieltjes operators and multiplication operators on $F(p,q,s)$.
We are concerned with Hardy and BMO spaces of operator-valued functions analytic in the unit disk of $\mathbb{C}.$ In the case of the Hardy space, we involve the atomic decomposition since the usual argument in the scalar setting is not suitable. Several properties (the Garsia-norm equivalent theorem, Carleson measure, and so on) of BMOA spaces are extended to the operator-valued setting. Then, the operator-valued $\mathrm{H}^1$-BMOA duality theorem is proved. Finally, by the $\mathrm{H}^1$-BMOA duality we present the Lusin area integral and Littlewood-Paley $g$-function characterizations of t…
We study the $H^{\infty}(\mathbb{B}_{n})$ Corona problem $\sum_{j=1}^{N}f_{j}g_{j}=h$ and show it is always possible to find solutions $f$ that belong to $BMOA(\mathbb{B}_{n})$ for any $n>1$, including infinitely many generators $N$. This theorem improves upon both a 2000 result of Andersson and Carlsson and the classical 1977 result of Varopoulos. The former result obtains solutions for strictly pseudoconvex domains in the larger space $H^{\infty}\cdot BMOA$ with $N=\infty $, while the latter result obtains $BMOA(\mathbb{B}_{n})$ solutions for just N=2 generators with $h=1$. Our method of pro…
Let (M,μ) be a sigma-finite measure space. Let (T_t) be a semigroup of positive preserving maps on (M,μ) with standard assumptions. We prove a H_1-BMO duality theory with assumptions only on T_t. The BMO is defined as spaces of functions f such that the L_\infty norm of sup_tT_t|f-T_tf|^2 is finite. The H1 is defined by square functions of P. A. Meyer's gradient form. Our argument does not rely on any geometric/metric structure of M nor on the kernel of the semigroups of operators. This abstract argument allows to extend our main results to the noncommutative setting, e.g. the case where L_\in…
Let $X$ be a space of homogeneous type and let $L$ be a sectorial operator with bounded holomorphic functional calculus on $L^2(X)$. We assume that the semigroup $\{e^{-tL}\}_{t>0}$ satisfies Davies-Gaffney estimates. Associated to $L$ are certain approximations of the identity. We call an operator $T$ a non-integral operator if compositions involving $T$ and these approximations satisfy certain weighted norm estimates. The Davies-Gaffney and the weighted norm estimates are together a substitute for the usual kernel estimates on $T$ in Calderón-Zygmund theory. In this paper, we show, under the…
Calderón-Zygmund operators with noncommuting kernels may fail to be Lp-bounded for $p \neq 2$, even for kernels with good size and smoothness properties. Matrix-valued paraproducts, Fourier multipliers on group vNa's or noncommutative martingale transforms are frameworks where we find such difficulties. We obtain weak type estimates for perfect dyadic CZO's and cancellative Haar shifts associated to noncommuting kernels in terms of a row/column decomposition of the function. Arbitrary CZO's satisfy $H_1 \to L_1$ type estimates. In conjunction with $L_\infty \to BMO$, we get certain row/column …
We provide a quantitative two weight estimate for the dyadic paraproduct $π_b$ under certain conditions on a pair of weights $(u;v)$ and $b$ in $Carl_{u,v}$, a new class of functions that we show coincides with BMO when $u = v \in A^d_2$. We obtain quantitative two weight estimates for the dyadic square function and the martingale transforms under the assumption that the maximal function is bounded from $L_2(u)$ into $L_2(v)$ and $v \in RH^d_1$. Finally we obtain a quantitative two weight estimate from $L_2(u)$ into $L_2(v)$ for the dyadic square function under the assumption that the pair $(u…
In this work, we give new sufficient conditions for a Littlewood-Paley-Stein square function and necessary and sufficient conditions for a Calderón-Zygmund operator to be bounded on Hardy spaces $H^p$ with indices smaller than $1$. New Carleson measure type conditions are defined for Littlewood-Paley-Stein operators, and we show that they are sufficient for the associated square function to be bounded from $H^p$ into $L^p$. New polynomial growth $BMO$ conditions are also introduced for Calderón-Zygmund operators. These results are applied to prove that Bony paraproducts can be constructed such…
We prove continuity and surjectivity of the trace map onto $L_p$, from a space of functions of locally bounded variation, defined by the Carleson functional. The extension map is constructed through a stopping time argument. This extends earlier work by Varopoulos in the BMO case, related to the Corona theorem. We also prove $L_p$ Carleson approximability results for solutions to elliptic non-smooth divergence form equations, which generalize results in the case $p=\infty$ by Hofmann, Kenig, Mayboroda and Pipher.
Lusin Area Function and Molecular Characterizations of Musielak-Orlicz Hardy Spaces and Their ApplicationsLet $φ: \mathbb R^n\times [0,\infty)\to[0,\infty)$ be a growth function such that $φ(x,\cdot)$ is nondecreasing, $φ(x,0)=0$, $φ(x,t)>0$ when $t>0$, $\lim_{t\to\infty}φ(x,t)=\infty$, and $φ(\cdot,t)$ is a Muckenhoupt $A_\infty(\mathbb{R}^n)$ weight uniformly in $t$. In this paper, the authors establish the Lusin area function and the molecular characterizations of the Musielak-Orlicz Hardy space $H_φ(\mathbb{R}^n)$ introduced by Luong Dang Ky via the grand maximal function. Let ${\mathcal X}$ be a metric space with doubling measure, $L$ a nonnegative self-adjoint operator in $L^2({\mathcal X})$ satisfying the Davies-Gaffney estimate, $ω$ a concave function on $(0,\infty)$ of strictly lower type $p_ω\in (0, 1]$ and $ρ(t)={t^{-1}}/ω^{-1}(t^{-1})$ for all $t\in (0,\infty).$ The authors introduce the Orlicz-Hardy space $H_{ω,L}({\mathcal X})$ via the Lusin area function associated to the heat semigroup, and the BMO-type space ${\mathop\mathrm{BMO}_{ρ,L}(\mathcal X)}$. The authors then establish the duality between $H_{ω,L}({\mathcal X})$ and $\mathrm{BMO}_{ρ,L}({\mat…
Let $\mathcal{X}$ be a metric space with doubling measure and $L$ a nonnegative self-adjoint operator in $L^2(\mathcal{X})$ satisfying the Davies-Gaffney estimates. We study the well-posedness of Cauchy problems on the upper half space $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}_+$ associated to higher order systems $\partial_t u =(-1)^{m+1}\mbox{div}_m A\nabla ^m u$ with bounded measurable and uniformly elliptic coefficients. We address initial data lying in $L^p$ ($1<p<\infty$) and $BMO$ ($p=\infty$) spaces and work with weak solutions. Our main result is the identification of a new well-posedeness class, given for $p\in(1,\infty]$ by distributions satisfying $\nabla^m u \in T^{p,2}_m$, where $T^{p,2}_m$ is a parabolic version of the tent space of Coifman--Meyer--Stein. In the r…

Several characterizations of $H_{ω,L}({\mathbb R}^n)$, including the molecular characterization, the Lusin-area function characte…
We study the holomorphic tent spaces $\mathcal{HT}^p_{q,α}(\Bn)$, which are motivated by the area function description of the Hardy spaces on one hand, and the maximal function description of the Hardy spaces on the other. Characterizations for these spaces under general fractional differential operators are given. We describe the dual of $\mathcal{HT}^p_{q,α}(\Bn)$ for the full range $0<p,q<\infty$ and $α>-n-1$. Here the case $1<p<\infty$, $q\leq 1$ leads us to the Hardy-Bloch type spaces $\mathcal{BT}^{p}(\Bn)$ and $\mathcal{BT}^{p,0}(\Bn)$, the latter being the predual of $\mathcal{HT}^p_{1…
