In this paper we study the fusion frame potential, that is a generalization of the Benedetto-Fickus (vectorial) frame potential to the finite-dimensional fusion frame setting. The structure of local and global minimizers of this potential is studied, when we restrict the frame potential to suitable sets of fusion frames. These minimizers are related to tight fusion frames as in the classical vector frame case. Still, tight fusion frames are not as frequent as tight frames; indeed we show that there are choices of parameters involved in fusion frames for which no tight fusion frame can exist. Thus, we exhibit necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of tight fusion frames with prescribed parameters, involving the so-called Horn-Klyachko's compatibility inequalities. The second part of the work is devoted to the study of the minimization of the fusion frame potential on a fixed sequence of subspaces, varying the sequence of weights. We related this problem to the index of the Hadamard product by positive matrices and use it to give different characterizations of these minima.
We study the minimizers of the fusion frame potential in the case that both the weights and the dimensions of the subspaces are fixed and not necessarily equal. Using a concept of irregularity we provide a description of the local (that are also global) minimizers which projections are eigenoperators of the fusion frame operator. This result will be related to the existence of tight fusion frames. In this way we generalize results known for the classical vector frame potential.
Lidskii's additive inequalities (both for eigenvalues and singular values) can be interpreted as an explicit description of global minimizers of functions that are built on unitarily invariant norms, with domains consisting of certain orbits of matrices (under the action of the unitary group). In this paper, we show that Lidskii's inequalities actually describe all global minimizers of such functions and that local minimizers are also global minimizers. We use these results to obtain partial results related to local minimizers of generalized frame operator distances in the context of finite fr…
Let $\mathcal F_0=\{f_i\}_{i\in\mathbb{I}_{n_0}}$ be a finite sequence of vectors in $\mathbb C^d$ and let $\mathbf{a}=(a_i)_{i\in\mathbb{I}_k}$ be a finite sequence of positive numbers. We consider the completions of $\cal F_0$ of the form $\cal F=(\cal F_0,\cal G)$ obtained by appending a sequence $\cal G=\{g_i\}_{i\in\mathbb{I}_k}$ of vectors in $\mathbb C^d$ such that $\|g_i\|^2=a_i$ for $i\in\mathbb{I}_k$, and endow the set of completions with the metric $d(\cal F,\tilde {\mathcal F}) =\max\{ \,\|g_i-\tilde g_i\|: \ i\in\mathbb{I}_k\}$ where $\tilde {\cal F}=(\cal F_0,\,\tilde {\cal G})$.…
For any positive real number $p$, the $p$-frame potential of $N$ unit vectors $X:=\{\mathbf x_1,\ldots,\mathbf x_N\}\subset \mathbb R^d$ is defined as ${\rm FP}_{p,N,d}(X)=\sum_{i\neq j}|\langle \mathbf x_i,\mathbf x_j\rangle |^p$. In this paper, we focus on the special case $N=d+1$ and establish the unique minimizer of ${\rm FP}_{p,d+1,d}$ for $p\in (0,2)$. Our results completely solve the minimization problem of $p$-frame potential when $N=d+1$, which confirms a conjecture posed by Chen, Gonzales, Goodman, Kang and Okoudjou.
K-fusion frames are generalizations of fusion frames in frame theory. This article characterizes various kinds of property of K-fusion frames. Several perturbation results on K-fusion frames are formulated and analyzed.
After introducing g-frames and fusion frames by Sun and Casazza, combining these frames together is an interesting topic for research. In this paper, we introduce the generalized fusion frames or g-fusion frames for Hilbert spaces and give characterizations of these frames from the viewpoint of closed range and g-fusion frame sequences. Also, the canonical dual g-fusion frames are presented and we introduce Parseval g-fusion frames.
Fusion frames have become a major tool in the implementation of distributed systems. The effectiveness of fusion frame applications in distributed systems is reflected in the efficiency of the end fusion process. This in turn is reflected in the efficiency of the inversion of the fusion frame operator $S_{\cW}$, which in turn is heavily dependent on the sparsity of $S_{\cW}$. We will show that sparsity of the fusion frame operator naturally exists by introducing a notion of {\it non-orthogonal fusion frames}. We show that for a fusion frame $\{W_i,v_i\}_{i\in I}$, if $\text{dim}(W_i)=k_i$, the…
Fusion frames are valuable generalizations of discrete frames. Most concepts of fusion frames are shared by discrete frames. However, the dual setting is so complicated. In particular, unlike discrete frames, two fusion frames are not dual of each other in general. In this paper, we investigate the structure of the duals of fusion frames and discuss the relation between the duals of fusion frames with their associated discrete frames.
Recently, fusion frames and frames for operators were considered as generalizations of frames in Hilbert spaces. In this paper, we generalize some of the known results in frame theory to fusion frames related to a linear bounded operator K which we call K-fusion frames. We obtain new K-fusion frames by considering K-fusion frames with a class of bounded linear operators. We also study the stability of K-fusion frames under small perturbations. We further give some characterizations of atomic systems with subspace sequences.
Continuous generalized fusion frame theory was recently introduced by Rahimi and al. Several equalities and inequalities have been obtained for frame, fusion generalized fusion frame, among others. In the present paper, we continue and extend these results to obtain some important identities and inequalities in the case of continuous generalized fusion frame, Parceval continuous generalized fusion frame, $ λ$-tight continuous generalized fusion frame. Moreover, we obtain some new inequalities for the alternate dual continuous generalized fusion frame. Finally, we obtain frame operator of a pai…
In this article we introduce the notion of $J$-fusion frame for a Krein space $\mathbb{K}$. We relate this new concept with fusion frames for Hilbert spaces and also with $J$-frames for Krein spaces. We also approximate $J$-fusion frame bounds of a $J$-fusion frame by the upper and lower bounds of the synthesis operator. Finally we address the problem of characterizing those bounded linear operators in $\mathbb{K}$ for which the image of $J$-fusion frame is also a $J$-fusion frame.
A new notion in frame theory, so called weaving frames has been recently introduced to deal with some problems in signal processing and wireless sensor networks. Also, fusion frames are an important extension of frames, used in many areas especially for wireless sensor networks. In this paper, we survey the notion of weaving Hilbert space fusion frames. This concept can be had potential applications in wireless sensor networks which require distributed processing using different fusion frames. Indeed, we present several approaches for identifying and constructing of weaving fusion frames in te…
In this paper we introduced the concept of continuous relay fusion frames in Hilbert spaces. And we define the dual frames for continuous relay fusion frames. Finally we study the perturbation probleme of continuous relay fusion frames.
In this article we find a necessary and sufficient condition under which a given collection of subspace is a $J$-fusion frame for a Krein space $\mathbb{K}$. We also approximate $J$-fusion frame bounds of a $J$-fusion frame by the upper and lower bounds of the synthesis operator. Then, we obtain the $J$-fusion frame bounds of the cannonical $J$-dual fusion frame. Finally, we address the problem of characterizing those bounded linear operators in $\mathbb{K}$ for which the image of $J$-fusion frame is also a $J$-fusion frame.
To achieve our main research goal, first we survey the approaches towards dual fusion frames existing in the literature and agree on the notion of duality for fusion frames in the sense of Kutyniok, Paternostro and Philipp ({\it Oper. Matrices} {\bf11} (2017), no. 2, 301--336). As a main result we show that different fusion frames have different dual fusion frames. Moreover, this duality notion leads to a new definition of Bessel fusion multipliers which is a slightly modified version of the commonly used definitions. Particularly, we show that with this definition in many cases Bessel fusion …
Controlled frames in Hilbert spaces have been introduced by Balazs, Antoine and Grybos to improve the numerical output of in relation to algorithms for inverting the frame operator. In this paper we have introduced and displayed some new concepts and results on controlled fusion frames for Hilbert spaces. It is shown that controlled fusion frames as a generalization of fusion frames give a generalized way to obtain numerical advantage in the sense of reconditioning to check the fusion frame condition. For this end, we introduce the notion of Q-duality for Controlled fusion frames. Also, we sur…
Improving and extending the concept of dual for frames, fusion frames and continuous frames, the notion of dual for continuous fusion frames in Hilbert spaces will be studied. It will be shown that generally the dual of c-fusion frames may not be defined. To overcome this problem, the new concept namely Q-dual for c-fusion frames will be defined and some of its properties will be investigated.
In this paper, we introduce orthonoramal and Riesz bases for g-fusion frames and will show that the weights have basic roles. Next, we prove an effective theorem between frames and g-fusion frames by using an operator. Finally, perturbations of g-fusion frames will be presented.
We introduce the notion of continuous controlled g-fusion frame in Hilbert space which is the generalization of discrete controlled g-fusion frame and give an example. Some characterizations of continuous controlled g-fusion frame have been presented. We define the frame operator and multiplier of continuous controlled g-fusion Bessel families in Hilbert spaces. Continuous resolution of the identity operator on a Hilbert space using the theory of continuous controlled g-fusion frame is being considered. Finally, we discuss perturbation results of continuous controlled g-fusion frame.
Frames for operators or k-frames were recently considered by Gavruta (2012) in connection with atomic systems. Also generalized frames are important frames in the Hilbert space of bounded linear operators. Fusion frames, which are a special case of generalized frames have various applications. This paper introduces the concept of generalized fusion frames for operators aka k-g-fusion frames and we get some results for characterization of these frames. We further discuss on duals and Q-duals in connection with k-g-fusion frames. Also we obtain some useful identities for these frames. We also gi…
In this paper we characterize $\sqrt{2}$-1-uniform $J$-Parseval fusion frames in a Krein space $\mathbb{K}$. We provide a few results regarding construction of new $J$-tight fusion frame from given $J$-tight fusion frames. We also characterize any uniformly $J$-definite subspace of a Krein space $\mathbb{K}$ in terms of a $J$-fusion frame inequality. Finally we generalize the fundamental identity of frames in Krein space $J$-fusion frame setting.
G-fusion frames which are obtained from the combination of g-frames and fusion frames were recently introduced for Hilbert spaces. In this paper, we present a new identity for g-frames which was given by Najati in a special case. Also, by using the idea of this identity and their dual frames, some equalities and inequalities will be presented for g-fusion frames.
In this paper, we introduce the concept of $K$-fusion frames and propose the duality for such frames. The relation between the local frames of $K$-fusion frames with their dual is studied. The elements from the range of a bounded linear operator $K$ can be reconstructed by $K$-frames. Also, we establish $K$-fusion frame multipliers and investigate reconstruction of the range of $K$ by them.
Concepts of g-fusion frame and gf-Riesz basis in a Hilbert to a Banach space is being presented. Some properties of g-fusion frame and gf-Riesz basis in Banach space have been developed. We discuss perturbation results of g-fusion frame in a Banach space. Finally, we construct g-p-fusion frames in Cartesian product of Banach spaces and tensor product of Banach spaces.
First we show that tight nonorthogonal fusion frames a relatively easy to com by. In order to do this we need to establish a classification of how to to wire a self adjoint operator as a product of (nonorthogonal) projection operators. We also discuss the link between nonorthogonal fusion frames and positive operator valued measures, we define and study a nonorthogonal fusion frame potential, and we introduce the idea of random nonorthogonal fusion frames.
We consider estimating a random vector from its noisy projections onto low dimensional subspaces constituting a fusion frame. A fusion frame is a collection of subspaces, for which the sum of the projection operators onto the subspaces is bounded below and above by constant multiples of the identity operator. We first determine the minimum mean-squared error (MSE) in linearly estimating the random vector of interest from its fusion frame projections, in the presence of white noise. We show that MSE assumes its minimum value when the fusion frame is tight. We then analyze the robustness of the …
Upon improving and extending the concept of redundancy of frames, we introduce the notion of redundancy of fusion frames, which is concerned with the properties of lower and upper redundancies. These properties are achieved by considering the minimum and maximum values of the redundancy function which is defined from the unit sphere of the Hilbert space into the positive real numbers. In addition, we study the relationship between redundancy of frames (fusion frames) and dual frames (dual fusion frames). Moreover, we indicate some results about excess of fusion frames. We state the relationshi…
For a collection of $N$ unit vectors $\mathbf{X}=\{x_i\}_{i=1}^N$, define the $p$-frame energy of $\mathbf{X}$ as the quantity $\sum_{i\neq j} |\langle x_i,x_j \rangle|^p$. In this paper, we connect the problem of minimizing this value to another optimization problem, so giving new lower bounds for such energies. In particular, for $p<2$, we prove that this energy is at least $2(N-d) p^{-\frac p 2} (2-p)^{\frac {p-2} 2}$ which is sharp for $d\leq N\leq 2d$ and $p=1$. We prove that for $1\leq m<d$, a repeated orthonormal basis construction of $N=d+m$ vectors minimizes the energy over an interva…
K-frames, a new generalization of frames, were recently considered by L. Gavruta in connection with atomic systems and some problems arising in sampling theory. Also, fusion frames are an important generalization of frames, applied in a variety of applications. In the present paper, we introduce the notion of K-fusion frames in Hilbert spaces and obtain several approaches for identifying of $K$-fusion frames. The main purpose is to reconstruct the elements from the range of the bounded operator $K$ on a Hilbert space H by using a family of closed subspaces in H. This work will be useful in som…
In frame theory literature, there are several generalizations of frame, K-fusion frame presents a flavour of one such generalization, basically it is an intertwined replica of K-frame and fusion frame. K-fusion frames come naturally (having significant applications) when one needs to reconstruct functions (signals) from a large data in the range of a bounded linear operator. Getting inspiration from the concept of weaving frames in Hilbert space, we study the weaving form of K-fusion frames which have significant applications in wireless sensor networks. This article produces various character…
Generalized fusion frame and some of their properties in tensor product of Hilbert spaces are described. Also, the canonical dual g-fusion frame in tensor product of Hilbert spaces is considered. Finally, the frame operator for a pair of g-fusion Bessel sequences in tensor product of Hilbert spaces is presented.
In this note, we first introduce the notation of weaving cfusion frames in separable Hilbert spaces. After reviewing the conditions for maintaining the weaving c-fusion frames under the bounded linear operator and also, removing vectors from these frames, we will present a necessarily and sufficient condition about c-woven and c-fusion woven. Finally, perturbation of these frames will be introduced.
An interesting question about the perturbed sequences is: when do they inherit the properties of the original one? An elegant relation between frames (fusion frames) and their perturbations is the relation of their redundancies. In this paper, we investigate these relationships. Also, we express the redundancy of frames (fusion frames) in terms of the cosine angle between some subspaces.
Configurations of subspaces like equichordal and equiisoclinic tight fusion frames, which are in some sense optimally spread apart and which also have reconstruction properties emulating those of orthonormal bases, are useful in various applications, such as wireless communications and quantum information theory. In this paper, a new construction of infinite classes of equichordal tight fusion frames built on semiregular divisible difference sets is presented. Sometimes this construction yields an equiisoclinic packing. Each of the constructed fusion frames is shown to have both a flat represe…
We give a characterization of K-g-fusion frames and discuss the stability of dual g-fusion frames. We also present a necessary and sufficient condition for a quotient operator to be bounded.
We will show that tight frames satisfying the restricted isometry property give rise to nearly tight fusion frames which are nearly orthogonal and hence are nearly equi-isoclinic. We will also show how to replace parts of the RIP frame with orthonormal sets while maintaining the RIP property.
Hilbert space fusion frames are a natural extension of Hilbert space frames, extending the notion from a set of vectors in a Hilbert space to a set of subspaces of a Hilbert space with analogous notions of overcompleteness and boundedness. As tight frames are a very important topic within standard frame theory, tight fusion frames are similarly important; however, only trivial examples of tight fusion frames are hitherto known. In this paper, we apply ideas from Gabor analysis to demonstrate a non-trivial construction of tight fusion frames. We then use this construction to further show their …
A new notion in frame theory has been introduced recently that called woven frames. %From the perspective of others, Woven and weaving frames are powerful tools for pre-processing signals and distributed data processing. The purpose of introducing fusion frame or frame of subspace is to first construct local components and then build a global frame from these. This type of frame behaves as a generalization of frames. Motivating by the concepts of fusion and weaving frames, we investigate the notion woven-weaving fusion frames and present some of their features. Also, we study some effects of p…
Let $S\in\mathcal{M}_d(\mathbb{C})^+$ be a positive semidefinite $d\times d$ complex matrix and let $\mathbf a=(a_i)_{i\in\mathbb{I}_k}\in \mathbb{R}_{>0}^k$, indexed by $\mathbb{I}_k=\{1,\ldots,k\}$, be a $k$-tuple of positive numbers. Let $\mathbb T_{d}(\mathbf a )$ denote the set of families $\mathcal G=\{g_i\}_{i\in\mathbb{I}_k}\in (\mathbb{C}^d)^k$ such that $\|g_i\|^2=a_i$, for $i\in\mathbb{I}_k$; thus, $\mathbb T_{d}(\mathbf a )$ is the product of spheres in $\mathbb{C}^d$ endowed with the product metric. For a strictly convex unitarily invariant norm $N$ in $\mathcal{M}_d(\mathbb{C})$,…
Fusion frames, and, more generally, operator-valued frame sequences are generalizations of classical frames, which are today a standard notion when redundant, yet stable sequences are required. However, the question of stability of duals with respect to perturbations has not been satisfactorily answered. In this paper, we quantitatively measure this stability by considering the associated deviations of the canonical and alternate dual sequences from the original ones. It is proven that operator-valued frame sequences are indeed stable in this sense. Along the way, we also generalize existing d…
The purpose of this work is to examine the structure of optimal dual fusion frames and get more exibility in the use of dual fusion frames for erasures of subspaces. We deal with optimal dual fusion frames with respect to different definitions of duality and compare the advantages of these approaches. In addition, we introduce a new concept so called partial optimal dual which involves less time and computation for detecting optimal dual for erasures in known locations. Then we study the relationship between local and global optimal duals by partial optimal duals which leads to some applicable…
Controlled frames which presented to improve the numerical output of iterative algorithms for inverting the frame operator, have been introduced by Balazs and et al. Also, these frames are used by Bogdanova and et al. for spherical wavelets. In this note, we aim to study some new results about controlled fusion frames and behavior of them under erasures. Finally, we will introduce the approximation operator for these frames and a result of the composition of the operators of two controlled fusion frames will be proved.
For finding the numerical solution of operator equations in many applications a decomposition in subspaces is needed. Therefore, it is necessary to extend the known method of matrix representation to the utilization of fusion frames. In this paper we investigate this representation of operators on a Hilbert space $\Hil$ with Bessel fusion sequences, fusion frame and Riesz decompositions. We will give the basic definitions. We will show some structural results and give some examples. Furthermore, in the case of Riesz decompositions, we prove that those functions are isomorphisms. Also, we want …
Equi-chordal and equi-isoclinic tight fusion frames (ECTFFs and EITFFs) are both types of optimal packings of subspaces in Euclidean spaces. In the special case where these subspaces are one-dimensional, ECTFFs and EITFFs both correspond to types of optimal packings of lines known as equiangular tight frames. In this brief note, we review some of the fundamental ideas and results concerning ECTFFs and EITFFs.
For applications like the numerical solution of physical equations a discretization scheme for operators is necessary. Recently frames have been used for such an operator representation. In this paper, we apply fusion frames for this task. We interpret the operator representation using fusion frames as a generalization of fusion Gram matrices. We present the basic definition of $U$-fusion cross Gram matrices of operators for a bounded operator $U$. We give sufficient conditions for their (pseudo-)invertibility and present explicit formulas for the inverse. In particular, we characterize fusion…
In this work, we consider some relationships between a closed range operator $T$ and a fusion frame $\mathcal{W}=(W_i,w_i)_{i\in I}$ for a Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$ that provides that the sequence $(\overline{T(W_i)},v_i)_{i\in I}$ is a fusion frame sequence for $\mathcal{H}$, if we consider a suitable family of weights $\{v_i\}_{i\in I}$. This (sufficient) condition generalizes some previous work in the subject.
Given $d, N\geq 2$ and $p\in (0, \infty]$ we consider a family of functionals, the $p$-frame potentials FP$_{p, N, d}$, defined on the set of all collections of $N$ unit-norm vectors in $\mathbb R^d$. For the special case $p=2$ and $p=\infty$, both the minima and the minimizers of these potentials have been thoroughly investigated. In this paper, we investigate the minimizers of the functionals FP$_{p, N, d}$, by first establishing some general properties of their minima. Thereafter, we focus on the special case $d=2$, for which, surprisingly, not much is known. One of our main results establi…
