Integrable structure of the symmetry reduced dynamics of massless bosonic sector of the heterotic string effective action is presented. For string background equations that govern in the space-time of $D$ dimensions ($D\ge 4$) the dynamics of interacting gravitational, dilaton, antisymmetric tensor and any number $n\ge 0$ of Abelian vector gauge fields, all depending only on two coordinates, we construct an \emph{equivalent} $(2 d+n)\times(2 d+n)$ matrix spectral problem ($d=D-2$). This spectral problem provides the base for the development of various solution constructing procedures (dressing transformations, integral equation methods). For the case of the absence of Abelian gauge fields, we present the soliton generating transformations of any background with interacting gravitational, dilaton and the second rank antisymmetric tensor fields. This new soliton generating procedure is available for constructing of various types of field configurations including stationary axisymmetric fields, interacting plane, cylindrical or some other types of waves and cosmological solutions.
Previous work has shown that massless tree amplitudes of the type I and IIA/B superstrings can be dramatically simplified by expressing them as double copies between field-theory amplitudes and scalar disk/sphere integrals, the latter containing all the $α'$-corrections. In this work, we pinpoint similar double-copy constructions for the heterotic and bosonic string theories using an $α'$-dependent field theory and the same disk/sphere integrals. Surprisingly, this field theory, built out of dimension-six operators such as $(D_μF^{μν})^2$, has previously appeared in the double-copy constructio…
The $Z_2\times Z_2$ heterotic string orbifold gives rise to a large space of phenomenological three generation models that serves as a testing ground to explore how the Standard Model of particle physics may be incorporated in a theory of quantum gravity. Recently, we demonstrated the existence of type 0 $Z_2\times Z_2$ heterotic string orbifolds in which there are no massless fermionic states. In this paper we demonstrate the existence of non--supersymmetric tachyon--free $Z_2\times Z_2$ heterotic string orbifolds that do not contain any massless bosonic states from the twisted sectors. We du…
We consider the effective action of the Heterotic Superstring to first order in alpha prime and derive the necessary and sufficient conditions that a field configuration has to satisfy in order to admit at least one Killing spinor using the spinor bilinear method and making minimal coordinate and frame choices. As a previous step in this derivation, we compute the complete spinor bilinear algebra using the Fierz identities, obtaining as a by-product the algebra satisfied by the Spin(7) structure contained in the bilinears in an arbitrary basis. We find the relations existing between the left-h…
Duality covariant curvature and torsion tensors in double field theory/generalized geometry are central in analyzing consistent truncations, generalized dualities, and related integrable $σ$-models. They are constructed systematically with the help of a larger, auxiliary space in a procedure inspired by Cartan geometry originally proposed by Poláček and Siegel for bosonic strings. It pivots around a maximally isotropic group that captures the generalized structure group of the physical space. We show how dropping the isotropy condition on this group allows us to describe heterotic/type I strin…
This thesis is devoted to the study of geometric aspects of black holes and integrable structures in string theory. In the first part, symmetries of the horizon and its bulk extension will be investigated. We investigate the horizon conjecture beyond the supergravity approximation, by considering α' corrections of heterotic supergravity in perturbation theory, and show that standard global techniques can no longer be applied. A sufficient condition to establish the horizon conjecture will be identified. As a consequence of our analysis, we find a no-go theorem for AdS2 backgrounds in heterotic…
Higher-derivative interactions and transformation rules of the fields in the effective field theories of the massless string states are strongly constrained by space-time symmetries and dualities. Here we use an exact formulation of ten dimensional ${\cal N}=1$ supergravity coupled to Yang-Mills with manifest T-duality symmetry to construct the first order $α'$-corrections of the heterotic string effective action. The theory contains a supersymmetric and T-duality covariant generalization of the Green-Schwarz mechanism that determines the modifications to the leading order supersymmetry transf…
