We discuss the appearance of supersolid phases for interacting hardcore bosons on the square lattice when, in addition to the standard nearest neighbor hopping and repulsion, correlated or next-nearest neighbor hopping is present. Having in mind dimer-based quantum magnets in a field described by effective bosonic models of this kind, we put special emphasis on a comparison between the different cases of relative signs of the kinetic processes, which correspond to unfrustrated or frustrated magnetic models. In the unfrustrated case, we compare Quantum Monte Carlo simulations with a mean-field (classical) approach, which is shown to give qualitatively correct results. Using this classical approach for the frustrated case, we find that the phase diagram is generically richer than in the unfrustrated case. We also investigate in detail the differences between standard next-nearest neighbour and correlated hopping over the diagonal, with the conclusion that both cases are similar if checkerboard order is present at half-filling, while a supersolid phase can be stabilized without any adjacent solid phase only in the case of correlated hopping.

Hard-core bosons on a triangular lattice with nearest neighbor repulsion are a prototypical example of a system with supersolid behavior on a lattice. We show that in this model the physical origin of the supersolid phase can be understood quantitatively and analytically by constructing quasiparticle excitations of defects that are moving on an ordered background. The location of the solid to supersolid phase transition line is predicted from the effective model for both positive and negative (frustrated) hopping parameters. For positive hopping parameters the calculations agree very accuratel…
We examine instabilities of the plateau phases in the spin-1/2 kagome-lattice antiferromagnet in an applied field by means of degenerate perturbation theory, and find some emergent supersolid phases below the $m=5/9$ plateau. The wave functions of the plateau phases in a magnetic field have the particular construction based on the building blocks of resonating hexagons and their surrounding sites. Magnon excitations on each of these blocks suffer from a kinetic frustration effect, namely, they cannot hop easily to the others since the hopping amplitudes through the two paths destructively canc…
We study a system of hardcore boson on a one-dimensional lattice with frustrated next-nearest neighbor hopping and nearest neighbor interaction. At half filling, for equal magnitude of nearest and next-nearest neighbor hopping, the ground state of this system exhibits a first order phase transition from a Bond-Ordered (BO) solid to a Charge-Density-Wave(CDW) solid as a function of the nearest neighbor interaction. Moving away from half filling we investigate the system at incommensurate densities, where we find a SuperSolid (SS) phase which has concurrent off-diagonal long range order and dens…
By using a state of art tensor network state method, we study the ground-state phase diagram of an extended Bose-Hubbard model on the square lattice with frustrated next-nearest neighboring tunneling. In the hardcore limit, tunneling frustration stabilizes a peculiar half supersolid (HSS) phase with one sublattice being superfluid and the other sublattice being Mott Insulator away from half filling. In the softcore case, the model shows very rich phase diagrams above half filling, including three different types of supersolid phases depending on the interaction parameters. The considered model…
The hardcore extended Bose Hubbard model on a bilayer square lattice with attractive (repulsive) interplane (intraplane) interactions has been investigated numerically. Focusing on the strong interplane hopping parameter regime, triplet valence bonds of dimers are stabilized to form valence bond checkerboard solid at quarter filling. Increasing the particle number we confirm, for the first time, the presence of the exotic valence bond supersolid phase, where the valence bond solid ordering and the boson superfluidity coexist. Rising further the particle number will lead to a checkerboard solid…
We introduce a new numerical technique -- bosonic auxiliary-field Monte Carlo (bAFMC) -- which allows to calculate the thermal properties of large lattice-boson systems within a systematically improvable semiclassical approach, and which is virtually applicable to any bosonic model. Our method amounts to a decomposition of the lattice into clusters, and to an Ansatz for the density matrix of the system in the form of a cluster-separable state -- with non-entangled, yet classically correlated clusters. This approximation eliminates any sign problem, and can be systematically improved upon by us…
Motivated by the realization of Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC) in non-cubic lattices, in this work we study the phases and collective excitation of bosons with nearest neighbor interaction in a triangular lattice at finite temperature, using mean field (MF) and cluster mean field (CMF) theory. We compute the finite temperature phase diagram both for hardcore and softcore bosons, as well analyze the effect of correlation arising due to lattice frustration and interaction systematically using CMF method. A semi-analytic estimate of the transition temperatures between different phases are derive…
We investigate the extended hard-core Bose-Hubbard model on the triangular lattice as a function of spatial anisotropy with respect to both tunneling and nearest-neighbor interaction strength. At half-filling the system can be tuned from decoupled one-dimensional chains to a two-dimensional solid phase with alternating density order by adjusting the anisotropic coupling. At intermediate anisotropy, however, frustration effects dominate and an incommensurate supersolid phase emerges, which is characterized by incommensurate density order as well as an anisotropic superfluid density. We demonstr…
We investigate the effect of next nearest-neighbour hopping on the zero temperature Drude weight or superfluidity in mesoscopic one-dimensional systems of (a) single particle with quasidisorder (Aubry-André model) and (b) hardcore bosons with nearest-neighbour interaction. We show that there is an interaction-induced enhancement of the Drude weight when the next nearest-neighbour hopping is frustrated for the many-body system. The observed non-monotonic behaviour of the Drude weight occurs because the repulsive interactions first suppress the frustration in the system, leading to a rise in the…

We chart out the possible phases of laser driven Rydberg atoms in the presence of a hypercubic optical lattice. We define a pseudospin degree of freedom whose up(down) components correspond to the excited(ground) states of the Rydberg atoms and use them to demonstrate the realization of a canted Ising antiferromagnetic (CIAF) Mott phase of the atoms in these systems. We also show that on lowering the lattice depth, the quantum melting of the CIAF and density-wave (DW) Mott states (which are also realized in these systems) leads to supersolid (SS) phases of the atoms. We provide analytical expr…
We use large scale quantum Monte-Carlo simulations to study an extended Hubbard model of hardcore bosons on the kagome lattice. In the limit of strong nearest-neighbor interactions at 1/3 filling, the interplay between frustration and quantum fluctuations leads to a valence bond solid ground state. The system undergoes a quantum phase transition to a superfluid phase as the interaction strength is decreased. It is still under debate whether the transition is weakly first order or represents an unconventional continuous phase transition. We present a theory in terms of an easy-plane NCCP$^1$ ga…
