Using the high energy color dipole formalism, we study the coherent and incoherent nuclear DVCS process in the small-x regime. We consider simple models for the elementary dipole-hadron scattering amplitude that captures main features of the dependence on atomic number A, on energy and on momentum transfer t. Using the obtained amplitudes we make predictions for the nuclear DVCS cross section at photon level in the collider kinematics.
We review the phenomenological framework for accessing Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) using measurements of Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering (DVCS) from a proton target. We describe various GPD models and fitting procedures, emphasizing specific challenges posed both by the internal structure and properties of the GPD functions and by their relation to observables. Bearing in mind forthcoming data of unprecedented accuracy, we give a set of recommendations to better define the pathway for a precise extraction of GPDs from experiment.
In this contribution, we present a study of the coherent and incoherent nuclear DVCS process in the small-$x$ regime within the color dipole formalism. Predictions for the nuclear DVCS cross section at photon level in the collider kinematics are presented.
We show the role played by QCD evolution and skewedness effects in the DVCS cross section at large $Q^2$ within the color dipole description of the process at photon level. The dipole cross section is given by the saturation model, which can be improved by DGLAP evolution at high photon virtualities. We investigate both possibilities as well as the off-forward effect through a simple phenomenological parametrisation. The results are compared to the recent ZEUS DVCS data.
We study the DVCS amplitude within the color dipole approach. The light-cone wave function of a real photon is evaluated in the instanton vacuum model. Our parameter free calculations are able to describe H1 data, both the absolute values and the $t$-dependences, at medium-high values of $Q^{2}$. The $Q^{2}$ dependence is found to be sensitive to the choice of the phenomenological cross section fitted to DIS data.
We present results for higher order perturbative corrections to Compton scattering in the generalized Bjorken kinematics. The approach we have used is based on the combination of two techniques: conformal operator product expansion on the one side, and resummation of the fermion vacuum insertions with consequent restoration of the full QCD beta-function via the naive nonabelianization assumption, on the other. These are terms which are lost in the former approach. Due to the presence of the infrared renormalon poles in the Borel transform of the resummed amplitude the latter suffers from ambig…
In this work we estimate the differential cross section for the high energy deeply virtual Compton scattering on a photon target within the QCD dipole-dipole scattering formalism. For the phenomenology, a saturation model for the dipole-dipole cross section for two photon scattering is considered. Its robustness is supported by good description of current accelerator data. In addition, we consider the related exclusive vector meson production processes. This analysis is focused on the light $ρ$ and $ϕ$ meson production, which produce larger cross sections. The phenomenological results are comp…
An analysis of Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering (DVCS) is made within the colour dipole model. We compare and contrast two models for the dipole cross-section which have been successful in describing structure function data. Both models agree with the available cross section data on DVCS from HERA. We give predictions for various azimuthal angle asymmetries in HERA kinematics and for the DVCS cross section in the THERA region.
The skewing factor, defined as the ratio of the imaginary parts of the amplitudes $Im A(γ^* p \to γ^* p)/Im A(γ^* p \to γp)$ is extracted for the first time from the data using recent Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering (DVCS) and the inclusive inelastic cross section measurements at DESY-HERA. The results values are compared to theoretical predictions for NLO QCD and the colour dipole approach.
I report on an analysis of Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering (DVCS) within the dipole model, done in collaboration with M. McDermott and G. Shaw. The two models considered here are distinct in their structure and implications. They both agree with the available cross-section data on DVCS from HERA. Predictions for various asymmetries are also given.
We investigate the deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) in the color dipole approach, implementing the dipole cross section through the saturation model, which interpolates successfully between soft and hard regimes. The imaginary and real part of the DVCS amplitude are obtained and the results are compared to the available data.
In this work we estimate the differential and total cross sections for the high energy deeply virtual Compton scattering in the weak sector. In the weak neutral sector one considers neutrino scattering off an unpolarized proton target through the exchange of Z0. We numerically compute the process Z* p --> γp within the QCD color dipole formalism, which successfully describes the current high energy electromagnetic DVCS experimental data. We also discuss possible applications for the weak charged sector and perform predictions for scattering on nuclear targets.
A series of previous papers develops a dipole model in initial state impact parameter space that includes subleading effects such as running alpha strong, unitarity, confinement and saturation. Here some recent work is presented, where the model is applied to a new set of data: vector meson production in photon-proton, DVCS and t-dependence in elastic proton-proton collisions. This allows us to tune a more realistic model of the proton wavefunction from the pp data, and confirm the predictive power of the model in high Q2 of DVCS and vector meson production. For low Q2 vector meson resonances …
We summarize here our investigations on the deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) in the color dipole approach, implementing the dipole cross section through the saturation model. The role played by its QCD evolution and the skewedness effects in the DVCS cross section are discussed. The phenomenological results are compared to the recent H1 and ZEUS experimental data.
We perform an adjust to the most recent structure function data, considering the QCD dipole picture applied to ep scattering. The structure function F2 at small x and intermediate Q2 can be described by the model containing an economical number of free-parameters, which encodes the hard Pomeron physics. The longitudinal structure function and the gluon distribution are predicted without further adjustments. The data description is effective, whereas a resummed next-to-leading level analysis is deserved.
We present some of the topics covered in two lectures under the same title that were given at the "Summer School on High Energy Physics at the LHC: New trends in HEP" in Natal, Brazil. In this contribution we give a brief review on the application of perturbative QCD to the hard diffractive processes. Some examples of phenomenology for the diffractive production of $W/Z$, heavy $Q\bar{Q}$ and quarkonium in hadron-hadron reactions are presented. It is also discussed the exclusive diffractive processes in $ep$ interactions. They are in general driven by the gluon content of proton which is stron…
We develop the color dipole phenomenology of diffractive photo- and electroproduction $γ^{*}\,N\rightarrow V(V')\,N$ of light vector mesons ($V(1S) = ϕ^0, ω^0, ρ^0$) and their radial excitations ($V'(2S) = ϕ', ω', ρ'$). The node of the radial wave function of the $2S$ states in conjunction with the energy dependence of the color dipole cross section is shown to lead to a strikingly different $Q^2$ and $ν$ dependence of diffractive production of the $V(1S)$ and $V'(2S)$ vector mesons. We discuss the restoration of flavor symmetry and universality properties of production of different vector mes…
We study the phenomenology of electric dipole moments (EDMs) induced in various scalar leptoquark models. We consider generic leptoquark couplings to quarks and leptons and match to Standard Model effective field theory. After evolving the resulting operators to low energies, we connect to EDM experiments by using up-to-date hadronic, nuclear, and atomic matrix elements. We show that current experimental limits set strong constraints on the possible CP-violating phases in leptoquark models. Depending on the quarks and leptons involved in the interaction, the existing searches for EDMs of lepto…
An extensive phenomenological study of the Drell-Yan (DY) process in $pp$ collisions at various energies is performed in the color dipole framework. Besides previously studied $γ^*$ production we have also included the $Z^0$ contribution relevant at large dilepton invariant masses. We investigate the DY cross section differential in invariant mass, rapidity and transverse momentum of the dilepton pair in $pp$ collisions at RHIC and LHC. We consider three different phenomenological models for the dipole cross section and found a reasonable agreement with the available data. As a further test of…
In several frameworks for leptons-sectors of two Higgs doublet models, we calculate the magnetic dipole moment for the different flavor types of neutrino. Computations are carried out by assuming a normal hierarchy for neutrino masses, and analyzing the process $ν\rightarrow νγ$ with a charged Higgs boson into the loop. The analysis was performed by sweeping the charged Higgs mass and taking into account the experimental constraints for relevant parameters in Two Higgs Doublet Models with and without flavor changing neutral currents; obtaining magnetic dipole moments close to the experimental …
We present a full evaluation of the deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) cross section in the dipole framework in the small-x region. The result features the $\cos ϕ$ and $\cos 2ϕ$ azimuthal angular correlations which have been missing in previous studies based on the dipole model. In particular, the $\cos 2ϕ$ term is generated by the elliptic gluon Wigner distribution whose measurement at the planned electron-ion collider (EIC) provides an important information about the gluon tomography at small-x. We also show the consistency with the standard collinear factorization approach based on t…
We explore the implications of electroweak baryogenesis for future searches for permanent electric dipole moments in the context of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM). From a cosmological standpoint, we point out that regions of parameter space that over-produce relic lightest supersymmetric particles can be salvaged only by assuming a dilution of the particle relic density that makes it compatible with the dark matter density: this dilution must occur after dark matter freeze-out, which ordinarily takes place after electroweak baryogenesis, implying the same deg…
Based on the QCD dipole picture of the BFKL Pomeron, we investigate the role played by the saturation scale, Q_{sat}, in obtaining physical values for the affective strong coupling in phenomenological fits to small-x HERA data. The dependence on this scale appears since the collection of color dipoles characterizing the proton target have average size 1/Q_{sat}, which is energy dependent. Physically, this means most of the color dipoles are above but sufficiently close to the border between a saturated and the dilute system. The analysis is first performed in the leading-logs BFKL approach in …
Using the QCD dipole picture of the hard BFKL Pomeron, we perform a 3 parameter fit analysis of the recent inclusive structure function experimental measurements at small-$x$ and intermediate $Q^2$. As a byproduct, the longitudinal structure function and the gluon distribution are predicted without further adjustments. The data description is quite reasonable, being timely a further study using resummed NLO BFKL kernels along the lines of recent theoretical developments.
Potential hints for New Physics enhanced b -> sg dipole operators are reviewed. Implications for inclusive kaon spectra, and corrresponding search strategies are discussed. Remarkably, all B meson rare decay constraints can be evaded. Large CP asymmetries are expected if new contributions to the dipole operators contain non-trivial weak phases. A critical comparison of eta' production in the Standard Model and in models with enhanced b -> sg is presented. A Standard Model explanation of the large B -> eta' Xs rate measured by CLEO poses a challenge, evidently requiring novel non-perturbative o…
The dipole phenomenology, which has been quite successful applied to various hard reactions, especially on nuclear targets, is applied for calculation of Gribov inelastic shadowing. This approach does not include ad hoc procedures, which are unavoidable in calculations done in hadronic representation. Several examples of Gribov corrections evaluated within the dipole description are presented.
We discuss the phenomenology of neutron Electric Dipole Moment from the Standard Model and beyond, and identify the matrix elements most necessary to connect the current and forthcoming experiments with phenomenology. We then describe lattice techniques for calculating these matrix elements
We determine the initial condition for the small-$x$ evolution equation (BK) from the HERA deep inelastic scattering data using a new parametrization that also keeps the unintegrated gluon distribution positive. The obtained dipole amplitude and its uncertainty estimate can be used to compute single inclusive particle production in proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions. We argue that one has to use consistently the proton transverse area measured in DIS and the total inelastic cross section when calculating the single inclusive cross section. This leads to a midrapidity nuclear modificat…
We report on a successful extraction of the twist-2 and twist-3 Distribution Amplitudes (DAs) of the rho meson using the HERA data on diffractive rho photoproduction. We extract these DAs using several Colour Glass Condensate (CGC) inspired and a Regge inspired dipole models. All our extracted DAs are consistent with Sum Rules and lattice predictions.
The QCD dipole picture of BFKL dynamics provides an attractive theoretical approach to the study of the QCD (resummed) perturbative expansion of small-x physics and more generally to hard high-energy processes. We discuss applications to the phenomenology of proton structure functions in the HERA range and to the longstanding problem of unitarity corrections, and outline some specific predictions of the dipole picture.
We present a pedagogical review of particle physics models that are based on the noncommutativity of space-time, $[\hat{x}_μ,\hat{x}_ν]=i θ_{μν}$, with specific attention to the phenomenology these models predict in particle experiments either in existence or under development. We summarize results obtained for high energy scattering such as would occur for example in a future $e^+e^-$ linear collider with $\sqrt{s} = 500 GeV$, as well as low energy experiments such as those pertaining to elementary electric dipole moments and other $\cpviolng$ observables, and finally comment on the status of…
The MSSM contains CP-violating phases that may have important observable effects in Higgs physics. We review recent highlights in Higgs phenomenology obtained with the code CPsuperH, a useful tool for studies of the production, mixing and decay of a coupled system of the neutral Higgs bosons at future high energy colliders such as the LHC, ILC ($γ$LC), and a muon collider (MC). CPsuperH implements the constraints from upper limits on electric dipole moments, and may be extended to include other related low-energy observables, such as b -> s γand B -> K l l, and to compute the relic abundance o…
We investigate the theoretical uncertainty on the predictions for the photoproduction of J/psi and Upsilon states in the proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at the LHC within the color dipole formalism. Predictions for the rapidity distributions are presented and the dependence on the meson wavefunction, heavy quark mass as well as the models for the dipole cross section are analyzed. We compare directly the theoretical results to the recent data from ALICE collaboration on J/psi production in pPb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 5.02 TeV and in PbPb collisio…
We study the impact that a heavy generation of vector-like leptons can have on the value of the electric dipole moment of the electron, and the rates for the flavor violating processes mu --> e gamma and mu --> 3e. The smallness of the charged lepton masses suggests that at least some of the Yukawa coupling constants of the vector-like leptons to the ordinary leptons or amongst themselves are small, but even with such small couplings experiments trying to detect these quantities are sensitive to extra generation lepton masses up to about 100 TeV.
We evaluate a number of new instanton-induced phenomena in QCD, starting with static dipole-dipole potentials, and proceeding to quark-quark and dipole-dipole scattering at high energy. We use a non-perturbative formulation of the scattering amplitude in terms of a correlator of two Wilson-lines (quarks) or Wilson-loops (dipoles) and analyze the Euclidean amplitudes with both perturbative gluons and instantons. The results are analytically continued to Minkowski geometry, by interpreting the angle between the Wilson lines as rapidity. We discuss the relevance of our results for the phenomenolo…
The Good-Walker mechanism for diffraction is shown to provide a link between total and diffractive structure functions and to be relevant for QCD calculations at small x_{Bj}. For Deep-Inelastic scattering on a small-size target (cf. an onium) the r\^ ole of Good-Walker ``diffractive eigenstates'' is played by the QCD dipoles appearing in the $1/N_C$ limit of QCD. Hard diffraction is thus related to the QCD tripe-dipole vertex which has been recently identified (and calculated) as being a conformal invariant correlator and/or a closed-string amplitude. An extension to hard diffraction at HERA …
The tentative gamma-ray line in the Fermi data at ~135 GeV motivates a dark matter candidate that couples to photons through loops of charged messengers. It was recently shown that this model can explain the observed line, but achieving the correct phenomenology requires a fairly sizable coupling between the WIMP and the charged messengers. While strong coupling by itself is not a problem, it is natural to wonder whether the phenomenological success is not spoiled by higher order quantum corrections. In this work we compute the dominant two-loop contributions to the electromagnetic form-factor…

The Impact-Parameter dependent Color Glass Condensate (b-CGC) dipole model is based on the Balitsky-Kovchegov non-linear evolution equation and improves the Iancu-Itakura-Munier dipole model by incorporating the impact-parameter dependence of the saturation scale. Here we confront the model to the recently released high precision combined HERA data and obtain its parameters. The b-CGC results are then compared to data at small-x for the structure function, the longitudinal structure function, the charm structure function, exclusive vector meson (J/ψ, ϕ, ρ) production and Deeply Virtual Compton…
Colored dark sectors where the dark matter particle is accompanied by colored partners have recently attracted theoretical and phenomenological interest. We explore the possibility that the dark sector consists of the dark matter particle and a color-octet partner, where the interaction with the Standard Model is governed by an effective operator involving gluons. The resulting interactions resemble the color analogues of electric and magnetic dipole moments. Although many phenomenological features of this kind of model only depend on the group representation of the partner under SU(3)$_c$, we…
We perform a complete study of the low-energy phenomenology of $S_1$ and $S_3$ lepto-quarks, aimed at addressing the observed deviations in $B$-meson decays and the muon magnetic dipole moment. Leptoquark contributions to observables are computed at one-loop accuracy in an effective field theory approach, using the recently published complete one-loop matching of these leptoquarks to the Standard Model effective field theory. We present several scenarios, discussing in each case the preferred parameter space and the most relevant observables.
In this talk we give a brief description of a QCD motivated model for both hard and soft interactions at high energies. In this model the long distance behaviour of the scattering amplitude is determined by the dipole scattering amplitude in the saturation domain. All phenomenological parameters for dipole-proton interaction were fitted from the deep inelastic scattering data and the soft processes are described with only one new parameter, related to the wave function of hadron. It turns out that we do not need to introduce the so called soft Pomeron that has been used in high energy phenomen…
The color dipole gBFKL phenomenology of a diffraction cone for photo- and electroproduction $γ^{*}N \to VN$ of heavy vector mesons (charmonium & bottonium) at HERA and in fixed target experiments is presented. A substantial shrinkage of the diffraction cone from the CERN/FNAL to the HERA range of c.m.s. energy $W$ is predicted. The $Q^{2}$-controlled selectivity to the color dipole size (scanning phenomenon) is shown to lead to a decrease of the diffraction slope with $Q^{2}$ (which is supported by the available experimental data). An approximate flavor independence of the diffraction slope in…
We present the color dipole phenomenology of diffractive photo- and electroproduction $γ^{*} N\to V(V') N$ of vector mesons ($V(1S) = ϕ^0, ω^0, ρ^0, J/Ψ, Υ$) and their radial excitations ($V'(2S) = ϕ', ω', ρ', Ψ', Υ'$). The main emphasis is related to light vector mesons. We discuss how the energy dependence of the color dipole cross section in conjuction with the node of the radial wave function of the $2S$ states can lead to an anomalous $Q^2$ and energy dependence of diffractive production of $V'(2S)$ vector mesons. The color dipole model predictions for $V(1S)$ light vector meson productio…
We present a short review of anomalous properties in diffractive photo- and electroproduction of radially excited V'(2S) vector mesons. Using the color dipole gBFKL phenomenology we analyze anomalous Q^{2} and energy dependence of the production cross section, V'(2S)/V(1S) production ratio, the diffraction slope and anomalous t behaviour of the differential cross section dσ/dt. The origin of these anomalies is based on the interplay of the nodal structure of V'(2S) radial wave function with the energy and dipole size dependence of the dipole cross section and the diffraction slope. We analyze …
Broadening of the transverse momentum of a parton propagating through a medium is treated using the color dipole formalism, which has the advantage of being a well developed phenomenology in deep-inelastic scattering and soft processes. Within this approach, nuclear broadening should be treated as color filtering, i.e. absorption of large-size dipoles leading to diminishing (enlarged) transverse separation (momentum). We also present a more intuitive derivation based on the classic scattering theory of Molière. This derivation helps to understand the origin of the dipole cross section, part of…
The study of exclusive processes in the future electron-ion ($eA$) colliders will be an important tool to investigate the QCD dynamics at high energies as they are in general driven by the gluon content of the target which is strongly subject to parton saturation effects. In this paper we compute the coherent and incoherent cross sections for the deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) process relying on the color dipole approach and considering different models for the dipole - proton scattering amplitude. The dependencies of the cross sections with the energy, photon virtuality, nuclear mas…
We describe the hard leptoproduction of transversally polarized rho-meson, up to twist 3 accuracy, including 2- and 3- particles Fock-states, in the HERA kinematics of high center-of-mass energy. We first build a model based on a simple approach to the unintegrated gluon density (the parton impact factor) that we compare with H1 and ZEUS data for the ratios of helicity amplitudes T(gamma*T -> rhoT)/T(gamma*L -> rhoL) and T(gamma*T -> rhoL)/T(gamma*L -> rhoL) and get a good description of the data. We also show how saturation effects can be included in this model by extending the dipole represe…
These lectures present an overview of the current status of the QCD based phenomenology for open and hidden heavy flavor production at high energies. A unified description based on the light-cone color-dipole approach is employed in all cases. A good agreement with available data is achieved without fitting to the data to be explained, and nontrivial predictions for future experiments are made. The key phenomena under discussion are: (i) formation of the wave function of a heavy quarkonium; (ii) quantum interference and coherence length effects; (iii) Landau-Pomeranchuk suppression of gluon ra…
We present a model for the polarized cross-sections of the hard diffractive leptoproduction of rho meson in the high energy limit. Our model is based on the light-cone collinear factorization of the virtual photon to rho meson impact factor when using the impact factor representation of the helicity amplitudes of the rho meson leptoproduction. This gauge invariant treatment when expressed in impact parameter space, leads to the factorization on one hand of the color dipole scattering amplitude and on the other hand of the distribution amplitudes of the rho meson up to twist 2 and 3. We show th…
We develop the color dipole gBFKL phenomenology of a diffraction cone for photo- and electroproduction $γ^{*}N \to VN$ of heavy vector mesons (charmonium & bottonium) at HERA and in fixed target experiments. We predict a substantial shrinkage of the diffraction cone from the CERN/FNAL to the HERA range of c.m.s. energy $W$. The $Q^{2}$-controlled selectivity to the color dipole size (scanning phenomenon) is shown to lead to a decrease of the diffraction slope with $Q^{2}$ (which is supported by the available experimental data). We predict an approximate flavor independence of the diffraction s…
The Impact-Parameter dependent Saturation Model (IP-Sat) is a simple dipole model that incorporates key features of the physics of gluon saturation and matches smoothly to the perturbative QCD dipole expression at large Q^2 for a given x. It was previously shown that the model gives a good description of HERA data suggesting evidence for gluon saturation effects at small x. The model has also been applied to proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions and provides the basis for the IP-Glasma model of initial conditions in heavy ion collisions. Here we present a reanalysis of available data in …
We review here two approaches to describe hard leptoproduction of transversally polarized rho-meson, based on recent calculation of the gamma*T -> rhoT impact factor up to twist 3 accuracy in the collinear factorization frame, including 2- and 3- particles Fock-states. The first approach uses a model of the unintegrated gluon density (the proton impact factor) which allows a comparison of our predictions with H1 and ZEUS data for the ratios of helicity amplitudes T(gamma*T -> rhoT)/T(gamma*L -> rhoL) and T(gamma*T -> rhoL)/T(gamma*L -> rhoL). In the second approach, we transform the gamma*T ->…
