We prove that the Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator (DtN) has no spectrum in the lower half of the complex plane. We find several application of this fact in scattering by obstacles with impedance boundary conditions. In particular, we find an upper bound for the gradient of the scattering amplitude and for the total cross section. We justify numerical approximations by providing bounds on difference between theoretical and approximated solutions without using any a priory unknown constants.
The gauge freedoms of enlarged Helmholtz theorem and the Neumann --- Debye potentials; their manifestation in the multipole expansion of conserved current
This paper considers to the problems of diffraction of electromagnetic waves on a half-plane, which has a finite inclusion in the form of a Lipschitz curve. The diffraction problem formulated as boundary value problem for Helmholtz equations and boundary conditions Dirichlet or Neumann on the boundary, as well as the radiation conditions at infinity. We carry out research on these problems in generalized Sobolev spaces. We use the operators of potential type, that by their properties are analogs of the classical potentials of single and double layers. We proved the solvability of the boundary …
Generalizing previous results obtained for the spectrum of the Dirichlet and Neumann realizations in a bounded domain of a Schrödinger operator with a purely imaginary potential $h^2Δ+iV$ in the semiclassical limit $h\to 0$ we address the same problem in exterior domains. In particular we obtain the left margin of the spectrum, and the emptiness of the essential part of the spectrum under some additional assumptions.
Exterior Dirichlet problems for two-dimensional lattice waves on the semi-infinite triangular lattice are considered. Namely, we study Dirichlet problems for the two-dimensional discrete Helmholtz equation in a plane with a hole. New results are obtained for the existence and uniqueness of the solution in the case of the real wave number $k \in (0, 2\sqrt{2})$ without passing to a complex wave number. Besides, Green's representation formula for the solution is derived with the help of difference potentials. To demonstrate the results, we propose a method for numerical calculation.
In a multidimensional infinite layer bounded by two hyperplanes, the inhomogeneous Helmholtz equation with a polynomial right-hand side is considered. It is shown that the Dirichlet and Dirichlet-Neumann boundary-value problems with polynomials in the right-hand sides of the boundary conditions have a solution that is a quasipolynomial that contains, in addition to the power functions, also hyperbolic or trigonometric functions. This solution is unique in the class of slow growth functions if the parameter of the equation is not an eigenvalue. An algorithm for constructing this solution is giv…
This paper treats the time-harmonic electro-magnetic scattering or radiation problem governed by Maxwell's equations in an exterior weak Lipschitz domain divided into two disjoint weak Lipschitz parts We will present a solution theory using the framework of polynomially weighted Sobolev spaces for the rotation and divergence. We will show a Fredholm alternative type result to hold using the principle of limiting absorption introduced by Eidus in the 1960's. The necessary a-priori-estimate and polynomial decay of eigenfunctions for the Maxwell equations will be obtained by transferring well kno…
We study the asymptotic distribution of the resonances near the Landau levels $Λ\_q =(2q+1)b$, $q \in \mathbb{N}$, of the Dirichlet (resp. Neumann, resp. Robin) realization in the exterior of a compact domain of $\mathbb{R}^3$ of the 3D Schr{ö}dinger operator with constant magnetic field of scalar intensity $b\textgreater{}0$. We investigate the corresponding resonance counting function and obtain the main asymptotic term. In particular, we prove the accumulation of resonances at the Landau levels and the existence of resonance free sectors. In some cases, it provides the discreteness of the s…
We prove that the time-harmonic solutions to Maxwell's equations in a 3D exterior domain converge to a certain static solution as the frequency tends to zero. We work in weighted Sobolev spaces and construct new compactly supported replacements for Dirichlet-Neumann fields. Moreover, we even show convergence in operator norm.
