Arbitrary operator A on a Banach space X which is the generator of C_0-group with certain growth condition at infinity is considered. The relationship between its exponential type entire vectors and its spectral subspaces is found. Inverse theorems on connection between the degree of smoothness of vector $x\in X$ with respect to operator A, the rate of convergence to zero of the best approximation of x by exponential type entire vectors for operator A, and the k-module of continuity are established. Also, a generalization of the Bernstein-type inequality is obtained. The results allow to obtain Bernstein-type inequalities in weighted L_p spaces.
We give a relation between the exponential stability of $ C_{0}- $semigroup $ \textbf{T}=\left\lbrace T(t) \right\rbrace_{t\geq 0} $ and the solutions of Lyapunov inequality \( \left\langle QAx,x\right\langle +\left\langle Qx,Ax\right\langle \leq -||x||^{2}, \) in $ B^{+}(X,X^{*}) $, with $ X $ is a Banach space. The solutions of this inequality characterizes, the boundedness of the resolvent $ R(λ,A) $ inside and outside of the left half-plane $ \Reλ\geq 0 $, and also the left invertibility of the $ C_{0}- $semigroup T.
For an arbitrary operator A on a Banach space X which is a generator of C_0-group with certain growth condition at the infinity, the direct theorems on connection between the smoothness degree of a vector $x\in X$ with respect to the operator A, the order of convergence to zero of the best approximation of x by exponential type entire vectors for the operator A, and the k-module of continuity are given. Obtained results allows to acquire Jackson-type inequalities in many classic spaces of periodic functions and weighted $L_p$ spaces.
We characterize boundedness, compactness and weak compactness of Volterra operators acting between different weighted Banach spaces of entire functions with weighted sup-norms in terms of the symbol g. Thus we complement recent work by Bassallote, Contreras, Hernández-Mancera, Martín and Paul for spaces of holomorphic functions on the disc and by Constantin and Peláez for reflexive weighted Fock spaces.
In this paper, we continue our previous research studies of exponential ultradistribution semigroups in Banach spaces. The existence and uniqueness of analytical solutions of abstract fractional relaxation equations associated with the generators of exponential ultradistribution semigroups have been considered. Some other results are also proved.
Given a continuous, radial, rapidly decreasing weight $v$ on the complex plane $\mathbf{C}$, we study the solid hull of its associated weighted space $H_v^\infty(\mathbf{C})$ of all the entire functions $f$ such that $v|f|$ is bounded. The solid hull is found for a large class of weights satisfying the condition (B) of Lusky. Precise formulations are obtained for weights of the form $v(r)=\exp(-ar^p), a>0, p>0$. Applications to spaces of multipliers are included.
Let $A$ be a complex Banach algebra. If the spectrum of an invertible element $a\in A$ does not separate the plane, then $a$ admits a logarithm. We present two elementary proofs of this classical result which are independent of the holomorphic functional calculus. We also discuss the case of real Banach algebras. As applications, we obtain simple proofs that every invertible matrix over $\mathbb C$ has a logarithm and that every real matrix $M$ in $M_n(\mathbb R)$ with $\det M>0$ is a product of two real exponential matrices.
We study weighted $H^\infty$ spaces of analytic functions on the open unit disc in the case of non-doubling weights, which decrease rapidly with respect to the boundary distance. We characterize the solid hulls of such spaces and give quite explicit representations of them in the case of the most natural exponentially decreasing weights.
We study exponential factorization of invertible matrices over unital complex Banach algebras. In particular, we prove that every invertible matrix with entries in the algebra of holomorphic functions on a closed bordered Riemann surface can be written as a product of two exponents of matrices over this algebra. Our result extends similar results proved earlier in [KS] and [L] for $2\times 2$ matrices.
We present a spectral mapping theorem for semigroups on any Banach space $E$. From this, we obtain a characterization of exponential dichotomy for nonautonomous differential equations for $E$-valued functions. This characterization is given in terms of the spectrum of the generator of the semigroup of evolutionary operators.
We extend some results about sampling of entire functions of exponential type to Banach spaces. By using generator $D$ of one-parameter group $e^{tD}$ of isometries of a Banach space $E$ we introduce Bernstein subspaces $\mathbf{B}_σ(D),\>\>σ>0,$ of vectors $f$ in $E$ for which trajectories $e^{tD}f$ are abstract-valued functions of exponential type which are bounded on the real line. This property allows to reduce sampling problems for $e^{tD}f$ with $f\in \mathbf{B}_σ(D)$ to known sampling results for regular functions of exponential type $σ$.
We prove in this article that every Borelian measure, for example, the distribution of a random variable, in separable Banach space has a support which is compact embedded Banach subspace; and prove that if the norm of the random variable belongs to some exponential Orlicz space, then the new subspace can be choose such that the norm of this variable in the new space also belongs to other exponential Orlicz space.
Spaces of homogeneous polynomials on a Banach space are frequently equipped with quasinorms instead of norms. In this paper we develop a technique to replace the original quasi-norm by a norm in a dual preserving way, in the sense that the dual of the space with the new norm coincides with the dual of the space with the original quasi-norm. Applications to problems on the existence and approximation of solutions of convolution equations and on hypercyclic convolution operators on spaces of entire functions are provided.
We study the asymptotics of strongly continuous operator semigroups defined on locally convex spaces in order to develop a stability theory for solutions of evolution equations beyond Banach spaces. In the classical case, there is only little choice for a semigroup's speed in approaching zero uniformly. Indeed, if a strongly continuous semigroup on a Banach space converges to zero uniformly at any speed then it converges already uniformly at exponential speed. Semigroups with this property are said to be exponentially stable. Leaving the Banach space setting, the situation changes entirely; fo…
We generalize Wonham's theorem on solvability of algebraic operator Riccati equations to Banach spaces, namely there is a unique stabilizing solution to A*P+PA-PBB*P+C*C=0 when (A,B) is exponentially stabilizable and (C,A) is exponentially detectable. The proof is based on a new approach that treats the linear part of the equation as the generator of a positive semigroup on the space of symmetric operators from a Banach space to its dual, and the quadratic part as an order concave map. A direct analog of global Newton's iteration for concave functions is then used to approximate the solution, …
We investigate the spectrum of the Volterra operator $V_g$ with symbol an entire function $g$, when it acts on weighted Banach spaces $H_v^{\infty}(\mathbb{C})$ of entire functions with sup-norms and when it acts on Hörmander algebras $A_p$ or $A^0_p$.
This is the second part in a series dealing with subspaces of de Branges spaces of entire function generated by majorization on subsets of the closed upper half-plane. In this part we investigate certain Banach spaces generated by admissible majorants. We study their interplay with the original de Branges space structure, and their geometry. In particular, we will show that, generically, they will be nonreflexive and nonseparable.
New algebraic-analytic properties of a previously studied Banach algebra $\mathcal{A}({\bf{p}})$ of entire functions are established. For a given fixed sequence $(\bf{p}(n))_{n\geq 0}$ of positive real numbers, such that $\lim_{n\rightarrow \infty} {\bf{p}}(n)^{\frac{1}{n}}=\infty$, the Banach algebra $\mathcal{A}({\bf{p}})$ is the set of all entire functions $f$ such that $f(z)=\sum_{n=0}^\infty \hat{f}(n) z^n $ ($z\in \mathbb{C}$), where the sequence $(\hat{f}(n))_{n\geq 0}$ of Taylor coefficients of $f$ satisfies $\hat{f}(n)=O({\bf{p}}(n)^{-1})$ for $n\rightarrow \infty$, with pointwise add…
Nikolskii type inequalities for entire functions of exponential type on Rn for the Lorentz Zygmund spaces are obtained. Some new limiting cases are examined. Application to Besov type spaces of logarithmic smoothness is given.
We present a spectral mapping theorem for continuous semigroups of operators on any Banach space $E$. The condition for the hyperbolicity of a semigroup on $E$ is given in terms of the generator of an evolutionary semigroup acting in the space of $E$-valued functions. The evolutionary semigroup generated by the propagator of a nonautonomous differential equation in $E$ is also studied. A ``discrete'' technique for the investigating of the evolutionary semigroup is developed and applied to describe the hyperbolicity (exponential dichotomy) of the nonautonomuos equation. Consider a linear impulsive equation in a Banach space $$\dot{x}(t)+A(t)x(t) = f(t), ~t \geq 0,$$ $$x(τ_i +0)= B_i x(τ_i -0) + α_i,$$ with $\lim_{i \rightarrow \infty} τ_i = \infty $. Suppose each solution of the corresponding semi-homogeneous equation $$\dot{x}(t)+A(t)x(t) = 0,$$ (2) is bounded for any bounded sequence $\{ α_i \}$. The conditions are determined ensuring (a) the solution of the corresponding homogeneous equation has an exponential estimate; (b) each solution of (1),(2) is bounded on the half-line for any bounded $f$ and bounded sequence $\{ α_i \}$ ; (c) $\lim_{t \rightarrow \…
We stretch the spectral bound equal growth bound condition along with a generalized Lyapunov stability theorem, known to hold for $C_0$-semigroups of normal operators on complex Hilbert spaces, to $C_0$-semigroups of scalar type spectral operators on complex Banach spaces. For such semigroups, we obtain exponential estimates with the best stability constants. We also extend to a Banach space setting a celebrated characterization of uniform exponential stability for $C_0$-semigroups on complex Hilbert spaces and thereby acquire a characterization of uniform exponential stability for scalar type…
The main aim of this work is to give a general approach to the celebrated Kahane-Salem-Zygmund inequalities. We prove estimates for exponential Orlicz norms of averages $\sup_{1\le j \leq N} \big |\sum_{1 \leq i \leq K}γ_i(\cdot) a_{i,j}\big|$ where $(a_{i,j})$ denotes a matrix of scalars and the $(γ_i)$ a sequence of real or complex subgaussian random variables. Lifting these inequalities to finite dimensional Banach spaces, we get novel Kahane-Salem-Zygmund type inequalities -- in particular, for spaces of subgaussian random polynomials and multilinear forms on finite dimensional Banach spac…
A projectional skeleton in a Banach space is a sigma-directed family of projections onto separable subspaces, covering the entire space. The class of Banach spaces with projectional skeletons is strictly larger than the class of Plichko spaces (i.e. Banach spaces with a countably norming Markushevich basis). We show that every space with a projectional skeleton has a projectional resolution of the identity and has a norming space with similar properties to Sigma-spaces. We characterize the existence of a projectional skeleton in terms of elementary substructures, providing simple proofs of kno…
Decoupling inequalities disentangle complex dependence structures of random objects so that they can be analyzed by means of standard tools from the theory of independent random variables. We study decoupling inequalities for vector-valued homogeneous polynomials evaluated at random variables. We focus on providing geometric conditions ensuring decoupling inequalities with good constants depending only exponentially on the degree of the polynomial. Assuming the Banach space has finite cotype we achieve this for classical decoupling inequalities that compare the polynomials with their associate…
Let $G$ be a topological Abelian semigroup with unit, let $E$ be a Banach space, and let $C(G,E)$ denote the set of continuous functions $f\colon G\to E$. A function $f\in C(G,E)$ is a generalized polynomial, if there is an $n\ge 0$ such that $Δ_{h_1} \ldots Δ_{h_{n+1}} f=0$ for every $h_1 ,\ldots , h_{n+1} \in G$, where $Δ_h$ is the difference operator. We say that $f\in C(G,E)$ is a polynomial, if it is a generalized polynomial, and the linear span of its translates is of finite dimension; $f$ is a w-polynomial, if $u\circ f$ is a polynomial for every $u\in E^*$, and $f$ is a local polynomia…
A classical theorem due to G.D. Birkhoff states that there exists an entire function whose translates approximate any given entire function, as accurately as desired, over any ball of the complex plane. We show this result may be generalized to the space of entire functions of compact bounded type defined on a Banach space with separable dual.
In a Banach algebra, the spectrum satisfies $σ(ab)\setminus\{0\} = σ(ba)\setminus\{0\}$ for each pair of elements $a,b$. We show that this is no longer true for the exponential spectrum, thereby solving a problem open since 1992. Our proof depends on the fact that the homotopy group $π_4(GL_2({\mathbb C}))$ is non-trivial.
This paper investigates the concept of harmonic functions of bounded mean oscillation, starting from John-Nirenberg's pioneering studies, under a renewed formalism, suitable for bringing out some fundamental properties inherent in it. In more detail: after a quick introduction, the second Section presents the main theorem, plus complete proof, relating to this function; in the third Section there is a suggestion on the exponential integrability (theorem and sketch of proof), while the fourth Section deals with the duality of Hardy Space $H^1$ and bounded mean oscillation, with some ideas for a…
A remarkable theorem of R. C. James is the following: suppose that $X$ is a Banach space and $C \subseteq X$ is a norm bounded, closed and convex set such that every linear functional $x^* \in X^*$ attains its supremum on $C$; then $C$ is a weakly compact set. Actually, this result is significantly stronger than this statement; indeed, the proof can be used to obtain other surprising results. For example, suppose that $X$ is a separable Banach space and $S$ is a norm separable subset of the unit ball of $X^*$ such that for each $x \in X$ there exists $x^* \in S$ such that $x^*(x) = \|x\|$ then…
Let $g$ be a entire function of exponential type on the complex plane $\mathbb C$, $Z=\{ z_k\}_{k=1,2,\dots}$ be a sequence of points in $\mathbb C$. We give a criterion for the existence of an entire function $f\neq 0$ of exponential type that vanishes on $ Z$ and satisfies the constraint $\ln |f(iy)|\leq \ln |g(iy)|+o(|y|)$, $y\to \pm\infty$. Our results generalize and develop a joint results of P. Malliavin and L. A. Rubel. Applications to multipliers for entire functions of exponential type, to analytic functionals and their convolutions on the complex plane, as well as to the completeness…
We investigate mapping properties for the Bargmann transform on modulation spaces whose weights and their reciprocals are allowed to grow faster than exponentials. We prove that this transform is isometric and bijective from modulation spaces to convenient Lebesgue spaces of analytic functions. We use this to prove that such modulation spaces fulfill most of the continuity properties which are well-known when the weights are moderated. Finally we use the results to establish continuity properties of Toeplitz and pseudo-differential operators in the context of these modulation spaces.
We show that, given a Banach space and a generator of an exponentially stable $C_{0}$-semigroup, a weakly admissible operator $g(A)$ can be defined for any $g$ bounded, analytic function on the left half-plane. This yields an (unbounded) functional calculus. The construction uses a Toeplitz operator and is motivated by system theory. In separable Hilbert spaces, we even get admissibility. Furthermore, it is investigated when a bounded calculus can be guaranteed. For this we introduce the new notion of exact observability by direction. Finally, it is shown that the calculus coincides with one f…
In this work, we prove the existence and uniqueness of $μ$-pseudo almost automorphic solutions for some class of semilinear nonautonomous evolution equations of the form: $ u'(t)=A(t)u(t)+f(t,u(t)),\; t\in\mathbb{R} $ where $ (A(t))_{t\in \mathbb{R}} $ is a family of closed densely defined operators acting on a Banach space $X$ that generates a strongly continuous evolution family which has an exponential dichotomy on $\mathbb{R}$. The nonlinear term $f: \mathbb{R} \times X \longrightarrow X$ is just $μ$-pseudo almost automorphic in Stepanov sense in $t$ and Lipshitzian with respect to the sec…
We consider an equation of the form $y'(t) + Ay(t) = 0, \ t \in [0, \infty)$, where $A$ is a nonnegative self-adjoint operator in a Hilbert space. We give direct and inverse theorems on approximation of solutions of this equation with its entire solutions of exponential type. This establishes a one-to-one correspondence between the order of convergence to $0$ of the best approximation of a solution and its smoothness degree. The results are illustrated with an example, where the operator $A$ is generated by a second order elliptic differential expression in the space $L_{2}(Ω)$ \ (the domain $…
In this paper we consider the question of sampling for spaces of entire functions of exponential type in several variables. The novelty resides in the growth condition we impose, that is, that their restriction to a hypersurface is square integrable with respect to a natural measure. The hypersurface we consider is the boundary $b\mathcal U$ of the Siegel upper half-space $\mathcal U$ and it is fundamental that $b\mathcal U$ can be identified with the Heisenberg group $\mathbb H_n$. We consider entire functions in $\mathbb C^{n+1}$ of exponential type with respect to the hypersurface $b\mathca…
We prove that SL(3,R) has Strong Banach property (T) in Lafforgue's sense with respect to the Banach spaces that are $θ>0$ interpolation spaces (for the complex interpolation method) between an arbitrary Banach space and a Banach space with sufficiently good type and cotype. As a consequence, every action of SL(3,R) or its lattices by affine isometries on such a Banach space X has a fixed point, and the expanders contructed from SL(3,Z) do not admit a coarse embedding into X. We also prove a quantitative decay of matrix coefficients (Howe-Moore property) for representations with small exponent…
Let $X$ be a finite-dimensional Banach space; we introduce and investigate a natural generalization of the concepts of Hadwiger number $H(X)$ and strict Hadwiger number $H'(X)$. More precisely, we define the antipodal Hadwiger number $H_α(X)$ as the largest cardinality of a subset $S \subseteq S_X$, such that $\forall x \neq y \in S \,\,\, \exists f \in B_{X^*}$ with \[1 \le f(x)-f(y) \,\,\, \textrm{and} \,\,\, f(y) \le f(z) \le f(x) \,\,\, \textrm{for} \,\,\, z \in S.\] The strict antipodal Hadwiger number $H'_α(X)$ is defined analogously. We prove that $H'_α(X)=4$ for every Minkowski plane a…
We consider Banach spaces equipped with a set of strongly continuous bounded semigroups satisfying certain conditions. Using these semigroups we introduce an analog of a modulus of continuity and define analogs of Besov norms. A generalization of a classical interpolation theorem is proven in which the role of Sobolev spaces is played by subspaces defined in terms of infinitesimal operators of these semigroups. We show that our assumptions about a given set of semigroups are satisfied in the case of a strongly continuous bounded representation of a Lie group. In the case of a unitary represent…
The Hahn-Banach theorem is an extension theorem for linear functionals which preserves certain properties. Specifically, if a linear functional is defined on a subspace of a real vector space which is dominated by a sublinear functional on the entire space, then this functional can be extended to a linear functional on the entire space which is still dominated by a sublinear functional. In this paper, we generalize this result to show that a linear functional defined on a subspace of a real vector space which is dominated by a sublinear functional and also dominates a superlinear functional on…
A description of the Carleman classes of vectors, in particular the Gevrey classes, of a scalar type spectral operator in a reflexive complex Banach space is shown to remain true without the reflexivity requirement. A similar nature description of the entire vectors of exponential type, known for a normal operator in a complex Hilbert space, is generalized to the case of a scalar type spectral operator in a complex Banach space.
In this effort we introduce and analyze a novel reduced basis approach, used to construct an approximating subspace for a given set of data. Our technique, which we call the Natural Greedy Algorithm (NGA), is based on a recursive approach for iteratively constructing such subspaces, and coincides with the standard, and the extensively studied, Orthogonal Greedy Algorithm (OGA) in a Hilbert space. However, for a given set of data in a general Banach space, the NGA is straightforward to implement and overcomes the explosion in computational effort introduced by the OGA, as we utilize an entirely…
We show that families of translation operators, where the translates grow exponentially fast, do not admit common hypercyclic functions. The result is close to be optimal.
