We introduce a quantum dimer model on the kagome lattice with kinetic terms allowing from 3 to 6 dimers to resonate around hexagons. Unlike models studied previously, the different resonance loops appears with different signs (given by the parity of the number of dimers involved). An effective spin-orbit Hamiltonian is derived for a spin-1/2 trimerized kagome antiferromagnet in the second-order of perturbation theory in the ratio of two coupling constants. Low-energy singlet states of the obtained model are mapped to a quantum dimer model on a triangular lattice. The quantum dimer model is dominated by dimer resonances on a few shortest loops of the triangular lattice. Characteristic energy scale for the dimer model constitutes only a small fraction of the weaker exchange coupling constant.
We use quantum Monte Carlo simulations to study effects of disorder on the quantum phase transition occurring versus the ratio g=J/J' in square-lattice dimerized S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnets with intra- and inter-dimer couplings J and J'. We extend Quantum Dimer Model (QDM) introduced by Rokhsar and Kivelson in such a way that the model includes resonance processes on larger loops. The strategy is to first construct a pseudo spin Hamiltonian which is defined not by the S =1/2 but by the S=1 representation and then establish the correspondence between the pseudo-spin-1 configurations and those of dimers. We propose a new quantum model interpolating between the fully frustrated spin-1/2 Ising model in a transverse field and a dimer model. The low-energy singlet dynamics of the Quantum Heisenberg Antiferromagnet on the Kagome lattice is described by a quantitative Quantum Dimer Model. Using advanced numerical tools, the latter is shown to exhibit Valence Bond Crystal order with a large 36-site unit cell and hidden degeneracy between even and odd parities. We study the critical properties in cubic systems of antiferromagnetically coupled spin dimers near magnetic-field induced quantum phase transitions. The quantum critical points in the zero-temperature phase diagrams are determined from quantum Monte Carlo simulations. We consider the dimerized spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain with spin hexameric distortion of the exchange pattern and study the zero-temperature phase diagram in the parameter space $(J_{1}, J_{2}, J_{3})$ by continuum-limit bosonization approach and the exact diagonalization method. The compound TlCuCl3 represents a model system of dimerized quantum spins with strong interdimer interactions. We investigate the triplet dispersion as a function of temperature by inelastic neutron scattering experiments on single crystals. By comparison with a number of theoretical approaches we demonstrate that the description of Troyer, Tsunetsugu, and Wuertz [Phys. Rev. B 50, 13515 (1994)] provides an appropriate quantum statistical model for dimer spin systems at finite temperatures, where many-body correlations become particularly important.

We study the frustrated dimer-plaquette quantum spin chain for ferromagnetic dimer bonds. This quantum system undergoes a series of first-order ground-state phase transitions driven by frustration or by a magnetic field. We find that the different nature of the ground-state phases has a strong influence on the magnetization curve as well as the low-temperature thermodynamics. We study quantum oscillations for a system of fermionic and bosonic dimers and compare the results to those experimentally observed in the cuprate superconductors in their underdoped regime. Based on gauge invariance, we argue that the charge carriers obey the Onsager quantization condition and quantum oscillations take on a Lifshitz-Kosevich form. By using bulk magnetization, electron spin resonance (ESR), heat capacity, and neutron scattering techniques, we characterize the thermodynamic and quantum phase diagrams of Ba$_3$Cr$_2$O$_8$. Our ESR measurements indicate that the low field paramagnetic ground state is a mixed state of the singlet and the S$_z$ = 0 triplet for $H \perp c$. A quantum dimer model (QDM) on the kagome lattice with an extensive ground-state entropy was recently introduced [Phys. Rev. B 67, 214413 (2003)]. The ground-state energy of this QDM in presence of one and two static holes is investigated by means of exact diagonalizations on lattices containing up to 144 kagome sites. The interaction energy between the holes (at distances up to 7 lattice spacings) is evaluated and the results show no indication of confinement at large hole separations.

We construct a two-dimensional microscopic model of interacting quantum dimers that displays an infinite number of periodic striped phases in its T=0 phase diagram. The phases form an incomplete devil's staircase and the period becomes arbitrarily large as the staircase is traversed. We study Heisenberg antiferromagnets on a diamond-like decorated square lattice perturbed by further neighbor couplings. The second-order effective Hamiltonian is calculated and the resultant Hamiltonian is found to be a square-lattice quantum-dimer model with a finite hopping amplitude and no repulsion, which suggests the stabilization of the plaquette phase. Our recipe for constructing quantum-dimer models can be adopted for other lattices and provides a route for the experimental realization of quantum-dimer models.
We use a nonperturbative extended contractor renormalization (ENCORE) method for engineering quantum devices for the implementation of topologically protected quantum bits described by an effective quantum dimer model on the triangular lattice. We introduce and study three-dimensional quantum dimer models with positive resonance terms. We demonstrate that their ground state wave functions exhibit a nonlocal sign structure that can be exactly formulated in terms of loops, and as a direct consequence, monomer excitations obey Fermi statistics. The sign structure and Fermi statistics in these "signful" quantum dimer models can be naturally described by a parton construction, which becomes exact at the solvable point.

Preparation of a Quantum Spin Liquid in Non-Hermitian Quantum Dimer Models and Rydberg Arrays

We propose a quantum dimer model for the metallic state of the hole-doped cuprates at low hole density, $p$. The Hilbert space is spanned by spinless, neutral, bosonic dimers and spin $S=1/2$, charge $+e$ fermionic dimers. The model realizes a `fractionalized Fermi liquid' with no symmetry-breaking and small hole pocket Fermi surfaces enclosing a total area determined by $p$. Exact diagonalization, on lattices of sizes up to $8 \times 8$, shows anisotropic quasiparticle residue around the pocket Fermi surfaces. We discuss the relationship to experiments.
