In the Bargmann representation of quantum mechanics, physical states are mapped into entire functions of a complex variable z*, whereas the creation and annihilation operators $\hat{a}^\dagger$ and $\hat{a}$ play the role of multiplication and differentiation with respect to z*, respectively. In this paper we propose an alternative representation of quantum states, conjugate to the Bargmann representation, where the roles of $\hat{a}^\dagger$ and $\hat{a}$ are reversed, much like the roles of the position and momentum operators in their respective representations. We derive expressions for the inner product that maintain the usual notion of distance between states in the Hilbert space. Applications to simple systems and to the calculation of semiclassical propagators are presented.
We propose a conjugate application of the Bargmann representation of quantum mechanics. Applying the Maslov method to the semiclassical connection formula between the two representations, we derive a uniform semiclassical approximation for the coherent state propagator which is finite at phase space caustics.
The Bargmann representation is constructed corresponding to the coherent states for a particle on a sphere introduced in: K. Kowalski and J. Rembielinski, J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 33, 6035 (2000). The connection is discussed between the introduced formalism and the standard approach based on the Hilbert space of square integrable functions on a sphere S^2.
By using the localized character of canonical coherent states, we give a straightforward derivation of the Bargmann integral representation of Wigner function (W). A non-integral representation is presented in terms of a quadratic form V*FV, where F is a self-adjoint matrix whose entries are tabulated functions and V is a vector depending in a simple recursive way on the derivatives of the Bargmann function. Such a representation may be of use in numerical computations. We discuss a relation involving the geometry of Wigner function and the spacial uncertainty of the coherent state basis we us…
Generalized Bargmann representations which are based on generalized coherent states are considered. The growth of the corresponding analytic functions in the complex plane is studied. Results about the overcompleteness or undercompleteness of discrete sets of these generalized coherent states are given. Several examples are discussed in detail.
In the Bargmann-Fock representation the coordinates $z^i$ act as bosonic creation operators while the partial derivatives $\partial_{z^j}$ act as annihilation operators on holomorphic $0$-forms as states of a $D$-dimensional bosonic oscillator. Considering also $p$-forms and further geometrical objects as the exterior derivative and Lie derivatives on a holomorphic ${\bf C}^D$, we end up with an analogous representation for the $D$-dimensional supersymmetric oscillator. In particular, the supersymmetry multiplet structure of the Hilbert space corresponds to the cohomology of the exterior deriv…
We formulate a universal method for solving an arbitrary quantum system which, in the Bargmann representation, is described by a system of linear equations with one independent variable, such as one- and multi-photon Rabi models, or $N$ level systems interacting with a single mode of the electromagnetic field and their various generalizations. We explain three types of conditions that determine the spectrum and show their usage for two deformations of the Rabi model. We prove that the spectra of both models are just zeros of transcendental functions, which in one case are given explicitly in t…
In this work, we solve the quantum absorption refrigerator analytically in the space of holomorphic functions with Gaussian measure . Our approach simplifies the calculations since for a given quantum system the coordinate representation of any quantum state is always more complicated than its corresponding expression written with respect to the phase-space coordinate $z_{i}$. We finally discuss the computational complexity of the holomorphic representation and compare it with the computational complexity of the standard operator method and prove the efficiency of the holomorphic representatio…
Generalized Intelligent States (coherent and squeezed states) are derived for an arbitrary quantum system by using the minimization of the so-called Robertson-Schrödinger uncertainty relation. The Fock-Bargmann representation is also considered. As a direct illustration of our construction, the Pöschl-Teller potentials of trigonometric type will be shosen. We will show the advantage of the Fock-Bargmann representation in obtaining the generalized intelligent states in an analytical way. Many properties of these states are studied.
By using the overcompleteness of coherent states we find an alternative form of the unit operator for which the ket and the bra appearing under the integration sign do not refer to the same phase-space point. This defines a new quantum representation in terms of Bargmann functions, whose basic features are presented. A continuous family of secondary reproducing kernels for the Bargmann functions is obtained, showing that this quantity is not necessarily unique for representations based on overcomplete sets. We illustrate the applicability of the presented results by deriving a semiclassical ex…
We provide (partial) reconstruction formulas and discrete Fourier transforms for wave functions in standard Fock-Bargmann (holomorphic) phase-number representation from a finite number $N$ of phase samples $\{θ_k=2πk/N\}_{k=0}^{N-1}$ for a given mean number $p$ of particles. The resulting Coherent State (CS) subsystem ${\cal S}=\{|z_k=p^{1/2}e^{iθ_k}>\}$ is complete (a frame) for truncated Hilbert spaces (finite number of particles) and reconstruction formulas are exact. For an unbounded number of particles, ${\cal S}$ is "almost complete" (a \textit{pseudo-frame}) and partial reconstruction f…
In relativistic quantum constraint mechanics the state of a physical system is constrained to a 3-dimensional subspace of Minkowski 4-space. Fourier transformation can be used to relate this state between constraint spaces in 4-position and 4-momentum space. It is shown that integral transforms of this nature can be carried out using Lorentz-invariant 3-dimensional constraint space coordinates such that a complete equivalence class of 4-space representations can be constructed from the transform. This method is further applied to develop a relativistic generalization of the Segal-Bargmann tran…
We introduce an extended class of cross-Toeplitz operators which act between Fock--Segal--Bargmann spaces with different weights. It is natural to consider these operators in the framework of representation theory of the Heisenberg group. Our main technique is representation of cross-Toeplitz by two-sided relative convolutions from the Heisenberg group. In turn, two-sided convolutions are reduced to usual (one-sided) convolutions on the Heisenberg group of the doubled dimensionality. This allows us to utilise the powerful group-representation technique of coherent states, co- and contra-varian…
In the probability representation of the standard quantum mechanics, the explicit expression (and its quasiclassical van-Fleck approximation) for the ``classical'' propagator (transition probability distribution), which completely describes the quantum system's evolution, is found in terms of the quantum propagator. An expression for the ``classical'' propagator in terms of path integral is derived. Examples of free motion and harmonic oscillator are considered. The evolution equation in the Bargmann representation of the optical tomography approach is obtained.
We describe several different representations of nilpotent step two Lie groups in spaces of monogenic Clifford valued functions. We are inspired by the classic representation of the Heisenberg group in the Segal-Bargmann space of holomorphic functions. Connections with quantum mechanics are described. Keywords: Segal-Bargmann space, Heisenberg group, coherent states, wavelet transform, reproducing kernel, nilpotent Lie group, monogenic functions, Dirac operator, Clifford algebra, (second) quantization, quantum field theory.
The coherent states for the quantum particle on the circle are introduced. The Bargmann representation within the actual treatment provides the representation of the algebra $[\hat J,U]=U$, where $U$ is unitary, which is a direct consequence of the Heisenberg algebra $[\hat ϕ, \hat J]=i$, but it is more adequate for the study of the circlular motion.
The q-fermion numbers emerging from the q-fermion oscillator algebra are used to reproduce the q-fermionic Stirling and Bell numbers. New recurrence relations for the expansion coefficients in the 'anti-normal ordering' of the q-fermion operators are derived. The roles of the q-fermion numbers in q-stochastic point processes and the Bargmann space representation for q-fermion operators are explored.
We describe a construction of wavelets (coherent states) in Banach spaces generated by ``admissible'' group representations. Our main targets are applications in pure mathematics while connections with quantum mechanics are mentioned. As an example we consider operator valued Segal-Bargmann type spaces and the Weyl functional calculus. Keywords: Wavelets, coherent states, Banach spaces, group representations, covariant, contravariant (Wick) symbols, Heisenberg group, Segal-Bargmann spaces, Weyl functional calculus (quantization), second quantization, bosonic field.
The N distinct prime numbers that make up a composite number M allow $2^{N-1}$ bi partioning into two relatively prime factors. Each such pair defines a pair of conjugate representations. These pairs of conjugate representations, each of which spans the M dimensional space are the familiar complete sets of Zak transforms (J. Zak, Phys. Rev. Let.{\bf 19}, 1385 (1967)) which are the most natural representations for periodic systems. Here we show their relevance to factorizations. An example is provided for the manifestation of the factorization.
We present, for the isospectral family of oscillator Hamiltonians, a systematic procedure for constructing raising and lowering operators satisfying any prescribed `distorted' Heisenberg algebra (including the $q$-generalization). This is done by means of an operator transformation implemented by a shift operator. The latter is obtained by solving an appropriate partial isometry condition in the Hilbert space. Formal representations of the non-local operators concerned are given in terms of pseudo-differential operators. Using the new annihilation operators, new classes of coherent states are …
Using coherent-state representations of quantum mechanics (Bargmann, Husimi, and stellar representations), we describe analytically the phase-space structure of the general eigenstates corresponding to a 1-dimensional bilinear hyperbolic Hamiltonian, H=pq or equivalently H=1/2(P^2-Q^2). Their semi-classical behaviour is discussed for eigenvalues either near or away from the separatrix energy {H=0}, especially in the phase-space vicinity of the saddle-point (q,p)=(0,0).
The question how to quantize a classical system where an angle phi is one of the basic canonical variables has been controversial since the early days of quantum mechanics. The problem is that the angle is a multivalued or discontinuous variable on the corresponding phase space. The remedy is to replace phi by the smooth periodic functions cos phi and sin phi. In the case of the canonical pair (phi,l),l: orbital angular momentum (OAM), the phase space S_(phi,l) ={phi in R mod 2pi, l in R} has the global structure S^1 x R of a cylinder on which the Poisson brackets of the 3 functions cos phi, s…
We investigate a generalisation of the Rabi system in the Bargmann-Fock representation. In this representation the eigenproblem of the considered quantum model is described by a system of two linear differential equations with one independent variable. The system has only one irregular singular point at infinity. We show how the quantisation of the model is related to asymptotic behaviour of solutions in a vicinity of this point. The explicit formulae for the spectrum and eigenfunctions of the model follow from an analysis of the Stokes phenomenon. An interpretation of the obtained results in …
In the spirit of geometric quantisation we consider representations of the Heisenberg(--Weyl) group induced by hypercomplex characters of its centre. This allows to gather under the same framework, called p-mechanics, the three principal cases: quantum mechanics (elliptic character), hyperbolic mechanics and classical mechanics (parabolic character). In each case we recover the corresponding dynamic equation as well as rules for addition of probabilities. Notably, we are able to obtain whole classical mechanics without any kind of semiclassical limit h->0. Keywords: Heisenberg group, Kirillov'…
In 1995 Doebner and Mann introduced an approach to the ray representations of the Galilei group in ($1+1$)-dimensions, giving rise to quantum generators with an explicit dependence on time. Recently (2004) Wawrzycki proposed a generalization of Bargmann's theory: in his paper he introduce phase exponents that are explicitely dependent by 4-space point. In order to find applications of such generalization, we extend the approach of Doebner and Mann to higher dimensions: as a result, we determine the generators of the ray representation in ($2+1$) and ($3+1$) dimensions. The differences of the o…
This paper outlines a covariant theory of operators defined on groups and homogeneous spaces. We revise the construction of creation/annihilation operators in quantum mechanics based on the representation theory of the Heisenberg and symplectic groups. Besides the standard harmonic oscillator (the elliptic case) we similarly treat the repulsive oscillator (hyperbolic case) and the free particle (the parabolic case). The respective hypercomplex numbers turn to be handy on this occasion, this provides a further illustration to Similarity and Correspondence Principle. The paper provides an introduction into p-mechanics, which is a consistent physical theory suitable for a simultaneous description of classical and quantum mechanics. p-Mechanics naturally provides a common ground for several different approaches to quantisation (geometric, Weyl, coherent states, Berezin, deformation, Moyal, etc.) and has a potential for expansions into field and string theories. The backbone of p-mechanics is solely the representation theory of the Heisenberg group. Keywords: Classical mechanics, quantum mechanics, Moyal brackets, Poisson brackets, commutator, Heisenberg grou…
