We study in detail the stability properties of the simplest F-term uplifting mechanism consistent with the integration of heavy moduli. This way of uplifting vacua guarantees that the interaction of the uplifting sector with the moduli sector is consistent with integrating out the heavy fields in a supersymmetric way. The interactions between light and heavy fields are characterized in terms of the Kahler invariant function, G = K + log |W|^2, which is required to be separable in the two sectors. We generalize earlier results that when the heavy fields are stabilized at a minimum of the Kahler function G before the uplifting (corresponding to stable AdS maxima of the potential), they remain in a perturbatively stable configuration for arbitrarily high values of the cosmological constant (or the Hubble parameter during inflation). By contrast, supersymmetric minima and saddle points of the scalar potential are always destabilized for sufficiently large amount of uplifting. We prove that these results remain unchanged after including gauge couplings in the model. We also show that in more general scenarios, where the Kahler function is not separable in the light and heavy sectors, the minima of the Kahler function still have better stability properties at large uplifting than other types of critical points.
An important ingredient in the construction of phenomenologically viable superstring models is the uplifting of Anti-de Sitter supersymmetric critical points in the moduli sector to metastable Minkowski or de Sitter vacua with broken supersymmetry. In all cases described so far, uplifting results in a displacement of the potential minimum away from the critical point and, if the uplifting is large, can lead to the disappearance of the minimum altogether. We propose a variant of F-term uplifting which exactly preserves supersymmetric critical points and shift symmetries at tree level. In spite …
We examine the pattern of soft supersymmetry breaking terms in moduli stabilization, where an uplifting potential is provided by spontaneously broken supersymmetry in a generic sequestered sector. From stationary conditions, we derive the relation between moduli F-term vacuum expectation values which does not depend on the details of sequestered uplifting. This moduli F-term relation is crucial for identifying the dominant source of soft terms of visible fields.
We study Kähler moduli stabilization in IIB superstring theory. We propose a new moduli stabilization mechanism by the supersymmetry-braking chiral superfield which is coupled to Kähler moduli in Kähler potential. We also study uplifting of the Large Volume Scenario (LVS) by it. In both cases, the form of superpotential is crucial for moduli stabilization. We confirm that our uplifting mechanism does not destabilize the vacuum of the LVS drastically.
We use the F-term dynamical supersymmetry breaking models with metastable vacua in order to uplift the vacuum energy in the KKLT moduli stabilization scenario. The main advantage compared to earlier proposals is the manifest supersymmetric treatment and the natural coexistence of a TeV gravitino mass with a zero cosmological constant. We argue that it is generically difficult to avoid anti de-Sitter supersymmetric minima, however the tunneling rate from the metastable vacuum with zero vacuum energy towards them can be very suppressed. We briefly comment on the properties of the induced soft te…
Employing uplift formulae, we uplift supersymmetric $AdS_6$ black holes from $F(4)$ gauged supergravity to massive type IIA and type IIB supergravity. In massive type IIA supergravity, we obtain supersymmetric $AdS_6$ black holes asymptotic to the Brandhuber-Oz solution. In type IIB supergravity, we obtain supersymmetric $AdS_6$ black holes asymptotic to the non-Abelian T-dual of the Brandhuber-Oz solution. For the uplifted black hole solutions, we calculate the holographic entanglement entropy. In massive type IIA supergravity, it precisely matches the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the black …
We study moduli stabilization with F-term uplifting. As a source of uplifting F-term, we consider spontaneous supersymmetry breaking models, e.g. the Polonyi model and the Intriligator-Seiberg-Shih model. We analyze potential minima by requiring almost vanishing vacuum energy and evaluate the size of modulus F-term. We also study soft SUSY breaking terms. In our scenario, the mirage mediation is dominant in gaugino masses. Scalar masses can be comparable with gaugino masses or much heavier, depending on couplings with spontaneous supersymmetry breaking sector.
In this note, we review our construction of de Sitter vacua in type IIB flux compactifications, in which moduli stabilization and D-term uplifting can be combined consistently with the supergravity constraints. Here, the closed string fluxes fix the dilaton and the complex structure moduli while perturbative quantum corrections to the Kähler potential stabilize the volume Kahler modulus in an AdS_4-vacuum. Then, magnetized D7-branes provide consistent supersymmetric D-term uplifting towards dS_4. Based on hep-th/0602253.
We discuss the role of F-term uplifting in stabilizing moduli within the framework of heterotic string theory. It turns out that the uplifting sector plays an important role in fixing the volume modulus at one of the self-dual points of a modular invariant potential. For the volume modulus stabilized at a self-dual point, the F-term uplifting leads to the dilation stabilization which can naturally yield the mirage mediation pattern of soft supersymmetry breaking terms. Generalizing to the case with anomalous U(1) gauge symmetry, we also find that the U(1) sector generically gives a contributio…
We find a new supersymmetric solution of type IIB supergravity which is the uplift of the GPPZ solution of maximal SO$(6)$ gauged supergravity in five dimensions. This background is expected to be holographically dual to an $\mathcal{N}=1^{*}$ supersymmetric mass deformation of four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM. The ten-dimensional solution is singular in the region corresponding to the IR regime of the dual gauge theory and we discuss the physics of the singularity in some detail.
We discuss the nature of sequestering supersymmetry breaking sectors in a certain class of moduli stabilization in supergravity/string models, where a negative vacuum energy of the nonperturbative moduli potential is canceled by dynamically generated F-terms. Two illustrating examples are shown to sketch the issues around the supersymmetry breaking, flavors and sequestering within such a framework.
We analyse the effective supergravity model of a warped compactification with matter on D3 and D7-branes. We find that the main effect of the warp factor is to modify the F-terms while leaving the D-terms invariant. Hence warped models with moduli stabilisation and a small positive cosmological constant resulting from a large warping can only be achieved with an almost vanishing D-term and a F-term uplifting. By studying string-motivated examples with gaugino condensation on magnetised D7-branes, we find that even with a vanishing D-term, it is difficult to achieve a Minkowski minimum for reas…
We study supersymmetric models with double gaugino condensations in the hidden sector, where the gauge couplings depend on two light moduli of superstring theory. We perform a detailed analysis of this class of model and show that there is no stable supersymmetric minimum with finite vacuum values of moduli fields. Instead, we find that the supersymmetry breaking occurs with moduli stabilized and negative vacuum energy. That yields moduli-dominated soft supersymmetry breaking terms. To realize slightly positive (or vanishing) vacuum energy, we add uplifting potential. We discuss uplifting does…
We study the influence of anomalous U(1) symmetries and their associated D-terms on the vacuum structure of global field theories once they are coupled to N=1 supergravity and in the context of string compactifications with moduli stabilisation. In particular, we focus on a IIB string motivated construction of the ISS scenario and examine the influence of one additional U(1) symmetry on the vacuum structure. We point out that in the simplest one-Kahler modulus compactification, the original ISS vacuum gets generically destabilised by a runaway behaviour of the potential in the modulus directio…
The issue of fine-tuning necessary to achieve satisfactory degree of hierarchy between moduli masses, the gravitino mass and the scale of the cosmological constant has been revisited in the context of supergravities with consistent D-terms. We have studied (extended) racetrack models where supersymmetry breaking and moduli stabilisation cannot be separated from each other. We show that even in such cases the realistic hierarchy can be achieved on the expense of a single fine-tuning. The presence of two condensates changes the role of the constant term in the superpotential, W_0, and solutions …
We study the effect of anomalous U(1) gauge groups in string theory compactification with fluxes. We find that, in a gauge invariant formulation, consistent AdS vacua appear breaking spontaneously supergravity. Non vanishing D-terms from the anomalous symmetry act as an uplifting potential and could allow for de Sitter vacua. However, we show that in this case the gravitino is generically (but not always) much heavier than the electroweak scale. We show that alternative uplifting scheme based on corrections to the Kahler potential can be compatible with a gravitino mass in the TeV range.
It was shown in arXiv:1410.7168 that compactifying $D=6$, $\mathcal{N}=(1,0)$ ungauged supergravity coupled to a single tensor multiplet on S$^3$ one gets a particular $D=3$, $\mathcal{N}=4$ gauged supergravity which is a consistent reduction. We construct two supersymmetric black string solutions in this 3-dimensional model with one and two active scalars respectively. Uplifting the first, one gets a dyonic string solution in $D=6$ that has been known for a long time. Whereas, uplifting the second solution, one finds a very interesting configuration where magnetic strings are located uniforml…
We present a new way to construct de Sitter vacua in type IIB flux compactifications, in which the interplay of the leading perturbative and non-perturbative effects stabilize all moduli in dS vacua at parametrically large volume. Here, the closed string fluxes fix the dilaton and the complex structure moduli while the universal leading perturbative quantum correction to the Kahler potential together with non-perturbative effects stabilize the volume Kahler modulus in a dS_4-vacuum. Since the quantum correction is known exactly and can be kept parametrically small, this construction leads to c…
We study concretely several issues altogether, moduli stabilization, the dynamical supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking, the uplifting of SUSY anti-de Sitter (AdS) vacuum and the sequestering of hidden sector, in a simple supergravity model with a single extra dimension. The sequestering is achieved dynamically by a wavefunction localization in extra dimension. The expressions for the visible sector soft SUSY breaking terms as well as the hidden sector potential are shown explicitly in our model. We find that the tree-level soft scalar mass and the A-term can be suppressed at a SUSY breaking Minkowsk…
Moduli stabilization in the type IIA massive string theory so far was achieved only in the AdS vacua. The uplifting to dS vacua has not been performed as yet: neither the analogs of type IIB anti-D3 brane at the tip of the conifold, nor the appropriate D-terms have been identified. The hope was recently expressed that the F-term uplifting may work. We investigate this possibility in the context of a simplified version of the type IIA model developed in hep-th/0505160 and find that the F-term does not uplift the AdS vacua to dS vacua with positive CC. Thus it remains a challenging task to find …
We examine recent work on compactifications of string theory with fluxes, where effective potentials for light moduli have been derived after integrating out moduli that are assumed to be heavy at the classical level, and then adding non-perturbative (NP) corrections to the superpotential. We find that this two stage procedure is not valid and that the correct potential has additional terms. Althought this does not affect the conclusion of Kachru et al (KKLT) that the Kaehler moduli may be stabilized by NP effects, it can affect the detailed physics. In particular it is possible to get metasta…
We develop a method for constructing metastable de Sitter vacua in N=1 supergravity models describing the no-scale volume moduli sector of Calabi-Yau string compactifications. We consider both heterotic and orientifold models. Our main guideline is the necessary condition for the existence of metastable vacua coming from the Goldstino multiplet, which constrains the allowed scalar geometries and supersymmetry-breaking directions. In the simplest non-trivial case where the volume is controlled by two moduli, this condition simplifies and turns out to be fully characterised by the intersection n…
Hidden sector D7-branes with non-zero gauge flux are a generic feature of type IIB compactifications. A non-vanishing Fayet-Iliopoulos term induced by non-zero gauge flux leads to a T-brane configuration. Expanding the D7-brane action around this T-brane background in the presence of three-form supersymmetry breaking fluxes, we obtain a positive definite contribution to the moduli scalar potential which can be used as an uplifting source for de Sitter vacua. In this way we provide a higher-dimensional understanding of known 4D mechanisms of de Sitter uplifting based on hidden sector F-terms wh…
In the present paper, we reexamine the moduli stabilization problem of the Type IIB orientifolds with one complex structure modulus in a modified two-step procedure. The full superpotential including both the 3-form fluxes and the non-perturbative corrections is used to yield a F-term potential. This potential is simplified by using one optimization condition to integrate the dilaton field out. It is shown that having a locally stable supersymmetric Anti-deSitter vacuum is not inevitable for these orientifolds, which depend strongly upon the details of the flux parameters. For those orientifol…
We study moduli stabilization and a realization of de Sitter vacua in generalized F-term uplifting scenarios of the KKLT-type anti-de Sitter vacuum, where the uplifting sector X directly couples to the light Kähler modulus T in the superpotential through, e.g., stringy instanton effects. F-term uplifting can be achieved by a spontaneous supersymmetry breaking sector, e.g., the Polonyi model, the O'Raifeartaigh model and the Intriligator-Seiberg-Shih model. Several models with the X-T mixing are examined and qualitative features in most models {\it even with such mixing} are almost the same as …
We describe several applications of the recently proposed mass production procedure, where multiple moduli are stabilized in a dS vacuum, in supergravity models inspired by string theory. The construction involves a small downshift of an initial supersymmetric Minkowski minimum to a supersymmetric AdS minimum, and a consequent small uplift to a dS minimum. Our type IIA examples include dS stabilization in a 7-moduli model with $[SL(2, \mathbb{R})]^7$ tree level symmetry, and its simplified version, a 3-moduli STU model. In these models, we use uplifting anti-D6 branes. In type IIB models, we p…
It is shown that two classes of racetrack inflation models, saddle point and inflection point ones, can be constructed in a fully supersymmetric framework with the matter field F-term as a source of supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking and uplifting. Two models of F-term SUSY breaking are considered: the Polonyi model and the quantum corrected O'Raifeartaigh model. In the former case, both classes of racetrack inflation models differ significantly from the corresponding models with non-SUSY uplifting. The main difference is a quite strong dominance of the inflaton by the matter field. In addition, fi…
The structure of the moduli space of N=1 supersymmetric gauge theories is analyzed from an algebraic geometric viewpoint. The connection between the fundamental fields of the ultraviolet theory, and the gauge invariant composite fields of the infrared theory is explained in detail. The results are then used to prove an anomaly matching theorem. The theorem is used to study anomaly matching for supersymmetric QCD, and can explain all the known anomaly matching results for this case.
We present the hyper-elliptic curve describing the moduli space of the N=2 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory with the $G_2$ gauge group. The exact monodromies and the dyon spectrum of the theory are determined. It is verified that the recently proposed solitonic equation is also satisfied by our solution.
It is shown that the beta functions for four dimensional N=2 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory without matter give integral curves on the moduli space some of which are geodesics of the natural metric on the moduli space. In particular the flow lines which cross-over from from the weak coupling limit (asymptotically free theory) to the singular points, representing the strong coupling limit, are geodesics. A possible connection with irreversibility is discussed.
In the context of type IIB string theory we combine moduli stabilisation and model building on branes at del Pezzo singularities in a fully consistent global compactification. By means of toric geometry, we classify all the CY manifolds with 3 < h11 < 6 which admit two identical del Pezzo singularities mapped into each other under the orientifold involution. This effective singularity hosts the visible sector containing the Standard Model while the Kaehler moduli are stabilised via a combination of D-terms, perturbative and non-perturbative effects supported on hidden sectors. We present concr…
We study the new case of the application of the JKLMR conjecture on the connection between the exact partition functions of $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ supersymmetric gauged linear sigma models (GLSM) on $S^2$ and special Kähler geometry on the moduli spaces of Calabi-Yau manifold $Y$. The last ones arise as manifolds of the supersymmetric vacua of the GLSM. We establish this correspondence using the Mirror symmetry in Batyrev's approach. Namely, starting from the two-moduli non-Fermat Calabi-Yau manifold $X$ we construct the dual GLSM with the supersymmetric vacua $Y$, which is the mirror for $X$. Kn…
This is the 11th article in the collection of reviews "Exact results in N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories", ed. J. Teschner. It describes an approach to understanding the 4d/2d relations discovered by Alday, Gaiotto and Tachikawa by establishing a triangle of relations between the zero mode quantum mechanics obtained by localisation of class $\cal S$ theories, the quantum theory obtained by quantisation of Hitchin moduli spaces, and conformal field theory.
We classify the N=4 supersymmetric AdS5 backgrounds that arise as solutions of five-dimensional N=4 gauged supergravity. We express our results in terms of the allowed embedding tensor components and identify the structure of the associated gauge groups. We show that the moduli space of these AdS vacua is of the form SU(1,m)/(U(1)x SU(m)) and discuss our results regarding holographically dual N=2 SCFTs and their conformal manifolds.
We construct families of hyper-elliptic curves which describe the quantum moduli spaces of vacua of $N=2$ supersymmetric $SU(N_c)$ gauge theories coupled to $N_f$ flavors of quarks in the fundamental representation. The quantum moduli spaces for $N_f < N_c$ are determined completely by imposing $R$-symmetry, instanton corrections and the proper classical singularity structure. These curves are verified by residue and weak coupling monodromy calculations. The quantum moduli spaces for $N_f\geq N_c$ theories are parameterized and their general structure is worked out using residue calculations. …
We study the S-matrix of planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory when external momenta are restricted to a two-dimensional subspace of Minkowski space. We find significant simplifications and new, interesting structures for tree and loop amplitudes in two-dimensional kinematics; in particular, the higher-point amplitudes we consider can be obtained from those with lowest-points by a collinear uplifting. Based on a compact formula for one-loop N${}^2$MHV amplitudes, we use an equation proposed previously to compute, for the first time, the complete two-loop NMHV and three-loop M…
We study the correspondence between the moduli space of vacua of three-dimensional supersymmetric Yang-Mills (Maxwell) Chern-Simons theories and brane configurations with (p,q)5-brane. For Coulomb branches, the number of the massless adjoint scalar fields in various supersymmetric theories exactly coincides with the number of the freely moving directions of D3-branes stretched between two 5-branes. When we include a matter superfield into the supersymmetric Chern-Simons theory two distinct symmetric and asymmetric phase appear. The symmetric phase is peculiar to this Chern-Simons Higgs system.…
Families of hyper-elliptic curves which describe the quantum moduli spaces of vacua of $N=2$ supersymmetric $SO(N_c)$ gauge theories coupled to $N_f$ flavors of quarks in the vector representation are constructed. The quantum moduli spaces for $2N_f < N_c-1$ are determined completely by imposing $R$-symmetry, instanton corrections and the proper classical singularity structure. These curves are verified by residue calculations. The quantum moduli spaces for $2N_f\geq N_c-1$ theories are parameterized and their general structure is worked out using residue calculations. The exact metrics on the…
A maximally supersymmetric configuration of super Yang-Mills living on a noncommutative torus corresponds to a constant curvature connection. On a noncommutative toroidal orbifold there is an additional constraint that the connection be equivariant. We study moduli spaces of (equivariant) constant curvature connections on noncommutative even-dimensional tori and on toroidal orbifolds. As an illustration we work out the cases of Z_{2} and Z_{4} orbifolds in detail. The results we obtain agree with a commutative picture describing systems of branes wrapped on cycles of the torus and branes stuck…
We apply the method of confining phase superpotentials to N = 2 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory with the exceptional gauge group G_2. Our findings are consistent with the spectral curve of the periodic Toda lattice, but do not agree with the hyperelliptic curve suggested previously in the literature. We also apply the method to theories with fundamental matter, treating both the example of SO(5) and G_2.
All supersymmetric gauge theories based on simple groups which have an affine quantum moduli space, i.e. one generated by gauge invariants with no relations, W=0, and anomaly matching at the origin, are classified. It is shown that the only theories with no gauge invariants (and moduli space equal to a single point) are the two known examples, SU(5) with 5-bar + 10 and SO(10) with a spinor. The index of the matter representation must be at least as big as the index of the adjoint in theories which have a non-trivial relation among the gauge invariants.
We study a four-dimensional effective theory of the five-dimensional (5D) gauged supergravity with a universal hypermultiplet and perturbative superpotential terms at the orbifold fixed points. Among eight independent isometries of the scalar manifold, we focus on three directions for gauging by the graviphoton. The class of models we consider includes the 5D heterotic M-theory and the supersymmetric Randall-Sundrum model as special limits of the gauging parameters. We analyze the vacuum structure of such models, especially the nature of moduli stabilization, from the viewpoint of the effectiv…
We investigate the geometry of the moduli spaces of dual electric and magnetic N=1 supersymmetric field theories. Using the SU(N_c) gauge group as a guideline we show that the electric and magnetic moduli spaces coincide for a suitable choice of the Kahler potential of the magnetic theory. We analyse the Kahler structure of the dual moduli spaces.
We consider generic properties of the moduli space of vacua in $N=2$ supersymmetric Yang--Mills theory recently studied by Seiberg and Witten. We find, on general grounds, Picard--Fuchs type of differential equations expressing the existence of a flat holomorphic connection, which for one parameter (i.e. for gauge group $G=SU(2)$), are second order equations. In the case of coupling to gravity (as in string theory), where also ``gravitational'' electric and magnetic monopoles are present, the electric--magnetic S duality, due to quantum corrections, does not seem any longer to be related to $S…
We present an exact description of the metric on the moduli space of vacua and the spectrum of massive states for four dimensional N=2 supersymmetric SU(n) gauge theories. The moduli space of quantum vacua is identified with the moduli space of a special set of genus n-1 hyperelliptic Riemann surfaces.
We perform a general study about the existence of non-supersymmetric minima with vanishing cosmological constant in supergravity models involving only chiral superfields. We study the conditions under which the matrix of second derivatives of the scalar potential is positive definite. We show that there exist very simple and strong necessary conditions for stability that constrain the Kahler curvature and the ratios of the supersymmetry-breaking auxiliary fields defining the Goldstino direction. We then derive more explicitly the implications of these constraints in the case where the Kahler p…
We study the moduli space of 4d N=1 supersymmetric QCD in the Veneziano limit using Hilbert series. In this limit, the numbers of colours and flavours are taken to be large with their ratio fixed. It is shown that the Hilbert series, which is a partition function of an ensemble of gauge invariant quantities parametrising the moduli space, can also be realised as a partition function of a system of interacting Coulomb gas in two dimensions. In the electrostatic equilibrium, exact and asymptotic analyses reveal that such a system exhibits two possible phases. Physical quantities, such as charge …
We systematically study all supersymmetric solutions of six-dimensional (2,0) supergravity with a null isometry. In particular, every such solution with at least four real supersymmetries is also a supersymmetric solution of a (1,0) theory preserving the same absolute amount of supersymmetry. This implies that no genuinely new solutions of this type can be found in this framework. The microstate geometries associated to supersymmetric black holes within Mathur's proposal are generically supersymmetric solutions of six-dimensional supergravity. A direct consequence of our result is that supersy…
We derive the moduli space for the global symmetry in N=1 supersymmetric theories. We show, at the generic points, it coincides with the space of quasi-Nambu-Goldstone (QNG) bosons, which appear besides the ordinary Nambu-Goldstone (NG) bosons when global symmetry G breaks down spontaneously to its subgroup H with preserving N=1 supersymmetry. At the singular points, most of the NG bosons change to the QNG bosons and the unbroken global symmetry is enhanced. The G-orbits parametrized by the NG bosons are the fibre at the moduli space and the singular points correspond to the point where H-orbi…
The current classification of $\mathcal{N} = 1$ string theories in eight and seven dimensions is completely captured by K3 surfaces with F-Theory or M-Theory frozen singularities. In this note we show that there are inequivalent ways of freezing certain collections of singularities which have the same ADE type, and so there are more connected components in the moduli space than previously thought; namely, one more in eight dimensions and three more in seven dimensions. We argue that the new component in eight dimensions decompactifies to a string theory in nine dimensions with rank 1 gauge gro…
Given a 4d ${\mathcal N}=2$ supersymmetric theory with an ${\mathcal N}=(2,2)$ supersymmetric surface defect, a marginal perturbation of the bulk theory induces a complex structure deformation of the defect moduli space. We describe a concrete way of computing this deformation using the bulk-defect OPE.
The supersymmetric flow equations describing the flow of moduli from infinity to the black hole horizon, and vice versa, are derived in the five-dimensional theories where the moduli space of the very special geometry has disjoint branches. The multiple solutions are derived from the `off the horizon' attractor equation. Within each branch, the black hole entropy, as usual, depends only on the near horizon attractor values of moduli, i.e. the entropy depends on the charges and on coefficients of the cubic polynomial. It does not depend on the values of the moduli fields at infinity. However, t…
We study the $N=1$ supersymmetric $G_2$ gauge theories with $N_f$ flavors of quarks in the fundamental vector representation. We find dynamically generated superpotentials, smooth quantum moduli space, quantum moduli space with additional mesons, non trivial IR fixed points.
We present a D-term hybrid inflation model, embedded in supergravity with moduli stabilisation. Its novel features allow us to overcome the serious challenges of combining D-term inflation and moduli fields within the same string-motivated theory. One salient point of the model is the positive definite uplifting D-term arising from the moduli stabilisation sector. By coupling this D-term to the inflationary sector, we generate an effective Fayet-Iliopoulos term. Moduli corrections to the inflationary dynamics are also obtained. Successful inflation is achieved for a limited range of parameter …
Four stacks of intersecting supersymmetric fractional D6-branes on the Z_6' orientifold have previously been used to construct consistent models having the spectrum of the supersymmetric Standard Model, including a single pair of Higgs doublets, plus three right-chiral neutrino singlets. However, various moduli, Kahler moduli and complex-structure moduli, twisted and untwisted, remain unfixed. Further, some of the Yukawa couplings needed to generated quark and lepton masses are forbidden by a residual global symmetry of the model. In this paper we study the stabilisation of moduli using backgr…
We write down the weak-coupling limit of N=2 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory with arbitrary gauge group \( G \). We find the weak-coupling monodromies represented in terms of \( Sp(2r,\bzeta ) \) matrices depending on paths closed up to Weyl transformations in the Cartan space of complex dimension r, the rank of the group. There is a one to one relation between Weyl orbits of these paths and elements of a generalized braid group defined from \( G \). We check that these weak-coupling monodromies behave correctly in limits of the moduli space corresponding to restrictions to subgroups. In the …
We study N=1 supersymmetric U(N) gauge theories coupled to an adjoint chiral field with superpotential. We consider the full supersymmetric moduli space of these theories obtained by adding all allowed chiral operators. These include higher-dimensional operators that introduce a field-dependence for the gauge coupling. We show how Feynman diagram/matrix model/string theoretic techniques can all be used to compute the IR glueball superpotential. Moreover, in the limit of turning off the superpotential, this leads to a deformation of N=2 Seiberg-Witten theory. In the case where the superpotentia…
In this paper we find examples of moduli stabilization and runaway behavior which can be treated exactly. This is shown for supersymmetric field theories which can be realized on the world volume of D-branes. From a geometric point of view, these field theories lift moduli spaces of vacua by deforming lines of singularities where supersymmetric fractional branes can be located in the geometry without D-branes.
The linear relations between the complex moduli and using the linear relations reduce the stabilization equations for supersymmetric black holes in N=2 theory
We study maximally supersymmetric AdS$_D$ solutions of gauged supergravities in dimensions $D \geq 4$. We show that such solutions can only exist if the gauge group after spontaneous symmetry breaking is a product of two reductive groups $H_R \times H_\mathrm{mat}$, where $H_R$ is uniquely determined by the dimension D and the number of supersymmetries N while $H_\mathrm{mat}$ is unconstrained. This resembles the structure of the global symmetry groups of the holographically dual SCFTs, where $H_R$ is interpreted as the R-symmetry and $H_\mathrm{mat}$ as the flavor symmetry. Moreover, we discu…
N=2 supersymmetric quantum black holes in the heterotic S-T-U model are presented. In particular three classes of axion-free quantum black holes with half the N=2, D=4 supersymmetries unbroken are considered. First, these quantum black holes are investigated at generic points in moduli space. Then linearized non-abelian black holes are investigated representing a subset of non-abelian black hole solutions at critical points of perturbative gauge symmetry enhancement in moduli space. It is shown that the entropy of linearized non-abelian black holes can be obtained, starting at non-critical poi…
