The nature of space-time and surrounding matter objects was and persists to be a one of the most intriguing and challenging problems facing the mankind and natural scientists especially. As we know one of the most brilliant inventions in physics of XIX-th century was combining of electricity and magnetism within the Faraday-Maxwell electromagnetism theory. This theory explained the main physical laws of light propagation in space-time and posed new questions concerning the nature of vacuum. Nonetheless, almost all attempts aiming to unveil the real state of art of the vacuum problem appeared to be unsuccessful in spite of new ideas suggested by Mach, Lorentz, Poincare, Einstein and some others physicists. Moreover, the non-usual way of treating the space-time devised by Einstein, in reality, favored to eclipsing both its nature and the related physical vacuum origin problems \cite{Fe,Ga,Ma,TW,Ba,BP}, reducing them to some physically unmotivated formal mathematical principles and recipes, combined in the well known special relativity theory (SRT). The SRT appeared to be adapted to the only inertial reference systems and faced with hard problems of the electromagnetic Lorentz forces explanation and relationships between inertial and gravity forces. The latter was artificially "dissolved" by means of the well known "equivalence" principle owing to which the "inertial" mass of a material object was postulated to coincide with its "gravity" mass.
In work we try to unveil some nontrivial aspects of the real space-time and vacuum origin problems to derive from the natural field theory principles all of the well known Maxwell electromagnetism and relativity theories results, to show their relative or only visible coincidence with real physical phenomena and to feature new perspectives facing the modern fundamental physics.
A formulation for stationary axisymmetric electromagnetic fields in general relativity is derived by casting them into the form of an anisotropic fluid. Several simplifications of the formalism are carried out in order to analyze different features of the fields, such as the derivation of electromagnetic sources for the Maxwell field in the form of thin layers, construction of new solutions, and generation techniques.
Maxwellian approximations to linear general relativity are revisited in light of relatively recent results on the degrees of freedom in the linear gravitational field. The well-known Maxwellian formalism obtained in harmonic coordinates is compared with a Maxwellian formalism obtained under a coordinate choice where each of the metric components corresponds to each of the coordinate-invariant degrees of freedom of the linear gravitational field. The coordinate freedom of general relativity can be exploited to cast the field equations into Maxwellian form, but such forms can be mere mirages of …
We employ the 'square root' of the Maxwell Lagrangian (i.e. \surd(F_{μν}F^{μν})), coupled with gravity to search for the possible linear potentials which are believed to play role in confinement. It is found that in the presence of magnetic charge no confining potential exists in such a model. Confining field solutions are found for radial geodesics in pure electrically charged Nariai- Bertotti-Robinson (NBR)-type spacetime with constant scalar curvature. Recently, Guendelman, Kaganovich, Nissimov and Pacheva, [Phys.Lett.B704(2011)230] have shown that superposed square root with standard Maxwe…
After having obtained previously an extended first approximation of Maxwell's equations in Fock's nonlinear relativity, we propose here the corresponding exact form. In order to achieve this goal, we were inspired mainly by the special relativistic version of Feynman's proof from which we constructed a formal approach more adapted to the noncommutative algebra. This reasoning lets us establish the exact form of the generalized first group of Maxwell's equations. To deduce the second one, we have imposed the electric-magnetic duality. As in the k-Minkowski space-time, the generalized Lorentz fo…
On the basis of all commutation relations of the k-deformed phase space incorporating the k-Minkowski space-time, we have derived in this paper an extended first approximation of both Maxwell's equations and Lorentz force in doubly (or deformed) special relativity (DSR). For this purpose, we have used our approach of the special relativistic version of Feynman's proof by which we have established the explicit formulations of electric and magnetic fields. As in Fock's nonlinear relativity (FNLR), the laws of electrodynamics depend on the particle mass which therefore constitutes a common point …
The fact that real dissipative (entropy producing) processes may be detected by non-comoving observers (tilted), in systems that appear to be isentropic for comoving observers, in general relativity, is explained in terms of the information theory, analogous with the explanation of the Maxwell's demon paradox
The formalism of electric - magnetic duality, first pioneered by Reinich and Wheeler, extends General Relativity to encompass non-Abelian fields. Several energy Tensors T^uv with non-vanishing trace matter are developed solely as a function of the field strength tensor F^uv, including the Euler tensor, and tensors for matter in flux, pressure in flux, and stationary pressure. The spacetime metric g_uv is not only a solution to the second-order Einstein equation based on T^uv, but is also constrained by a third-order equation involving the Bianchi identity together with the gravitational energy…

Axisymmetric Solutions of the vacuum Einstein equations are found in the Papapetrou-Weyl gauge. The solutions depend on two pairs of functionals, each pair of two functions depends on a different arbitrarily chosen function of one variable. Some examples are given.
We review explicit solutions to the stationary axisymmetric Einstein-Maxwell equations which can be interpreted as disks of charged dust. The disks of finite or infinite extension are infinitesimally thin and constitute a surface layer at the boundary of an electro-vacuum. The Einstein-Maxwell equations in the presence of one Killing vector are obtained by using a projection formalism. The SU(2,1) invariance of the stationary Einstein-Maxwell equations can be used to construct solutions for the electro-vacuum from solutions to the pure vacuum case via a so-called Harrison transformation. It is…
A comprehensive review of the equations of general relativity in the quasi-Maxwellian (QM) formalism introduced by Jordan, Ehlers and Kundt is made. Our main interest concerns its applications to the analysis of the perturbation of standard cosmology in the Friedman-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker framework. The major achievement of the QM scheme is its use of completely gauge independent quantities. We shall see that in the QM-scheme we deal directly with observable quantities. This reveals its advantage over the old method introduced by Lifshitz et al that deals with perturbation in the standard E…
Considering the vacuum as characterized by the presence of only the gravitational field, we show that the vacuum energy density of the de Sitter space, in the realm of the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity, can acquire arbitrarily high values. This feature is expected to hold in the consideration of realistic cosmological models, and may possibly provide a simple explanation to the cosmological constant problem.
The tetrad partial differential equations formulated by Buchman and Bardeen for vacuum gravity are shown to be well posed by calculation of the Cartan characters of an associated exterior differential system. Gauge specializations are discussed. A Cartan 4-form is found for this field theory, together with its intrinsic version the Lagrangian density.
A hypersurface composed of two null sheets, or "light fronts", swept out by the two congruences of future null normal geodesics emerging from a spacelike 2-disk can serve as a Cauchy surface for a region of spacetime. Already in the 1960s free (unconstrained) initial data for vacuum general relativity were found for hypersurfaces of this type. Here the Poisson brackets of such free initial data are calculated from the Hilbert action. The brackets obtained can form the starting point for a constraint free canonical quantization of general relativity and may be relevant to holographic entropy bo…
Standard pedagogy treats topics in general relativity (GR) in terms of tensor formulations in curved space-time. Although mathematically straightforward, the curved space-time approach can seem abstruse to beginning students due to the degree of mathematical sophistication required. As a heuristic tool to provide insight into what is meant by a curved metric, we present a polarizable-vacuum (PV) representation of GR derived from a model by Dicke and related to the "TH-epsilon-mu" formalism used in comparative studies of gravitational theories.
The main fundamental principles characterizing the vacuum field structure are formulated and the modeling of the related vacuum medium and charged point particle dynamics by means of devised field theoretic tools are analyzed. The work is devoted to studying the vacuum structure, special relativity, electrodynamics of interacting charged point particles and quantum mechanics, and is a continuation of \cite{BPT,BRT1}. Based on the vacuum field theory no-geometry approach, the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian reformulation of some alternative classical electrodynamics models is devised. The Dirac type…
We show that Geroch decomposition leads us to Maxwell-like representation of gravity in $(3+1)$ metrics decomposition that may be perceived as Lorentz invariant version of GEM. For such decomposition we derive four-potential $V^μ$ and gravitational field tensor $F^{μν}$ that is associated with gravitational interaction. Next we show that gravitational four-current $J^μ$ derived for introduced four-potential produce energy-stress tensor and reproduce main General Relativity formula. Next we introduce valid Lagrangian and equations of motion that explains obtained results. At the end we introduc…
We consider a possible (parity conserving) interaction between the electromagnetic field $F$ and a torsion field $T^α$ of spacetime. For generic elementary torsion, gauge invariant coupling terms of lowest order fall into two classes that are both nonminimal and {\it quadratic} in torsion. These two classes are displayed explicitly. The first class of the type $\sim F T^2$ yields (undesirable) modifications of the Maxwell equations. The second class of the type $\sim F^2 T^2$ doesn't touch the Maxwell equations but rather modifies the constitutive tensor of spacetime. Such a modification can b…

The electromagnetic (EM) perturbations of the black hole solutions in general relativity coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics (NED) are studied for both electrically and magnetically charged black holes, assuming that the EM perturbations do not alter the spacetime geometry. It is shown that the effective potentials of the electrically and magnetically charged black holes related to test perturbative NED EM fields are related to the effective metric governing the photon motion, contrary to the effective potential of the linear electrodynamic (Maxwell) field that is related to the spacetime met…
We will present a complete set of equations, in the form of an Einstein-Bianchi system, that describe the evolution of generic smooth lattices in spacetime. All 20 independent Riemann curvatures will be evolved in parallel with the leg-lengths of the lattice. We will show that the evolution equations for the curvatures forms a hyperbolic system and that the associated constraints are preserved. This work is a generalisation of our previous paper arXiv:1101.3171 on the Einstein-Bianchi system for the Schwarzschild spacetime to general 3+1 vacuum spacetimes.
The main fundamental principles characterizing the vacuum field structure are formulated, the modeling of the related vacuum medium and charged point particle dynamics by means of devised field theoretic tools are analyzed. The Maxwell electrodynamic theory is revisited and newly derived from the suggested vacuum field structure principles, the classical special relativity theory relationship between the energy and the corresponding point particle mass is revisited and newly obtained. The Lorentz force expression with respect to arbitrary non-inertial reference frames is revisited and discusse…
The nonlocal electrodynamics of accelerated systems is discussed in connection with the development of Lorentz-invariant nonlocal field equations. Nonlocal Maxwell's equations are presented explicitly for certain linearly accelerated systems. In general, the field equations remain nonlocal even after accelerated motion has ceased.
Recently a simple solution of the vacuum Einstein-Maxwell field equations was given describing a plane electromagnetic shock wave sharing its wave front with a plane gravitational impulse wave. We present here an exact solution of the vacuum Einstein-Maxwell field equations describing the head-on collision of such a wave with a plane gravitational impulse wave. The solution has the Penrose-Khan solution and a solution obtained by Griffiths as separate limiting cases.
A Lorentz-invariant cosmological model is constructed within the framework of five-dimensional gravity. The five-dimensional theorem which is analogical to the generalized Birkhoff theorem is proved, that corresponds to the Kaluza's ``cylinder condition''. The five-dimensional vacuum Einstein equations have an integral of motion corresponding to this symmetry, the integral of motion is similar to the mass function in general relativity (GR). Space closure with respect to the extra dimensionality follows from the requirement of the absence of a conical singularity. Thus, the Kaluza-Klein (KK) m…
Using numerical algebra tools, new classes of monopole solutions are obtained to the static, spherically-symmetric vacuum field equations of five-dimensional general relativity. First proposed by Kaluza, 5D general relativity unites gravity and classical electromagnetism with a scalar field. These monopoles correspond to bodies carrying mass, electric charge, and scalar charge. The Reissner-Nordström limit allows us to constrain the signature of the fifth component to be spacelike, but valid solutions are obtained for either sign of the scalar field. We find that Kaluza vacuum solutions imply …
A simple derivation is given of the Einstein-Maxwell field equations from the 2nd ordinary exterior differential of a precursor to the soldering form for n-dimensional differentiable manifolds having a general linear connection and in 5-dimensional general relativity in particular.
By resolving the Riemann curvature relative to a unit timelike vector into electric and magnetic parts, we consider duality relations analogous to the electromagnetic theory. It turns out that the duality symmetry of the Einstein action implies the Einstein vacuum equation without the cosmological term. The vacuum equation is invariant under interchange of active and passive electric parts giving rise to the same vacuum solutions but the gravitational constant changes sign. Further by modifying the equation it is possible to construct interesting dual solutions to vacuum as well as to flat spa…
The actions for bosonic fields typically contain terms quadratic in the derivatives of the fields. This is not the case in the Palatini approach to general relativity. The action does not contain any derivatives of the metric and it only contains terms linear in the derivatives of the connection. In general relativity the covariant derivative of the metric vanishes, so it is not possible to include such terms in the action. However, in more general theories this is not the case. In this paper I consider an action which is quadratic in the derivatives of the metric and connection and show that …
The existence of vacuum fluctuations leads to reconsider the question of relativity of motion. The present article is devoted to this aim with a main line which can be formulated as follows: ``The principle of relativity of motion is directly related to symmetries of quantum vacuum''. Keeping close to this statement, we discuss the controversial relation between vacuum and motion. We introduce the question of relativity of motion in its historical development before coming to the results obtained more recently.
We provide a novel, concise and self-contained evaluation of true- and false vacuum decay rates in general relativity. We insist on general covariance and choose observable boundary conditions, which yields the well known false-vacuum decay rate and a new true-vacuum decay rate that differs significantly from prior work. The rates of true- and false vacuum decays are identical in general relativity. The second variation of the action has a negative mode for all parameters. Our findings imply a new perspective on cosmological initial conditions and the ultimate fate of our universe.
Spaniol and Andrade introduced grvitoelectromagnetism in TEGR by considering superpotentials, times the determinant of tetrads, as the gravitoelectromagnetic fields. However, since this defined gravitoelectromagnetic field strength does not give rise to a complete set of Maxwell-like equations, we propose an alternative definition of the gravitoelectromagnetic field strength: instead of superpotentials, torsions are taken as the gravitoelectromagnetic field strengths. Based on this new proposal we are able to derive a complete set of Maxwell-like equations. We then apply them to obtain explici…
The Hamiltonian approach to the General Relativity and the Standard Model is studied in the context of its consistency with the Newton law, the Higgs effect, the Hubble cosmological evolution and the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation physics. The version of the Higgs potential is proposed, where its constant parameter is replaced by the dynamic zeroth Fourier harmonic of the very Higgs field. In this model, the extremum of the Coleman--Weinberg effective potential obtained from the unit vacuum--vacuum transition amplitude immediately predicts mass of Higgs field and removes tremendous vacu…
In an attempt to clarify what is the velocity of a particle in doubly special relativity, we solve Maxwell's equations invariant under the position-space nonlinear Lorentz transformation proposed by Kimberly, Magueijo, and Medeiros. We show that only the amplitude of the Maxwell wave, not the phase, is affected by the nonlinearity of the transformation. Thus, although the Maxwell wave appears to have infinitely large energy near the Planck time, the wave velocity is the same as the conventional light velocity. Surprisingly, the velocity of the Maxwell wave is not the same as the maximum signal…
Rapid growth of constraints is often observed in free evolutions of highly gravitating systems. To alleviate this problem we investigate the effect of adding spatial derivatives of the constraints to the right hand side of the evolution equations, and we look at how this affects the character of the system and the treatment of boundaries. We apply this technique to two formulations of Maxwell's equations, the so-called fat Maxwell and the Knapp-Walker-Baumgarte systems, and obtain mixed hyperbolic-parabolic problems in which high frequency constraint violations are damped. Constraint-preservin…
We investigate the possibility to recover a four-dimensional (4D) general theory of relativity, as embedded in a 5D spacetime where gravity is governed by a five-dimensional (5D) Brans-Dicke (BD) theory of gravity. Employing the Gauss-Codazzi-Ricci equations and some ideas of the induced matter theory, we obtain that when the 5D BD scalar field is only depending of the extra coordinate, it is possible to recover on every generic 4D hypersurface the usual Einstein field equations plus a cosmological constant term, with matter sources described by the energy-momentum tensor of induced matter and…
A proof of strong cosmic censorship is presented for a class of solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations, those with polarized Gowdy symmetry. A key element of the argument is the observation that by means of a suitable choice of variables the central equations in this problem can be written in a form where they are identical to the central equations for general (i.e. non-polarized) vacuum Gowdy spacetimes. Using this it is seen that the deep results of Ringström on strong cosmic censorship in the vacuum case have implications for the Einstein-Maxwell case. Working out the geometrical meani…
We investigate the cylindrical class of Newman Tamburino equations in the presence of an aligned Maxwell field. After obtaining a complete integration of the field equations we look at the possible vacuum limits and we examine the symmetries of the general solution.
It is shown that the Chern-Simons functional, built in the spinor representation from the initial data on spacelike hypersurfaces, is invariant with respect to infinitesimal conformal rescalings if and only if the vacuum Einstein equations are satisfied. As a consequence, we show that in the phase space the Hamiltonian constraint of vacuum general relativity is the Poisson bracket of the imaginary part of this Chern-Simons functional and Misner's time (essentially the 3-volume). Hence the vacuum Hamiltonian constraint is the condition on the canonical variables that the imaginary part of the C…
The General Relativity formulated with the aid of the spin connection coefficients is considered in the finite space geometry of similarity with the Dirac scalar dilaton. We show that the redshift evolution of the General Relativity describes the vacuum creation of the matter in the empty Universe at the electroweak epoch and the dilaton vacuum energy plays a role of the dark energy.
By introducing external Maxwell and gravitational fields we modify the Bonnor--Vaidya field of an arbitrarily accelerating charged mass moving rectilinearly in order to satisfy the vacuum Einstein--Maxwell field equations approximately, assuming the charge $e$ and the mass $m$ are small of first order.
Locally rotationally symmetric (L.R.S.) Bianchi type II stiff fluid cosmological model is investigated. To get the deterministic model of the universe, we have assumed a condition $A=B^{m}$ between metric potentials $A,~B$ where $n$ is the constant. It is shown that the vacuum energy density $Λ$ is positive and proportional to $\frac{1}{t^{2}}$. The values of deceleration parameter $q$, matter-energy density $Ω_{m}$ and dark-energy density $Ω_Λ$ are found to be in good agreement with the values obtain from 5-years WMAP observations. the predicted value of the jerk parameter agrees with the SNL…
This paper is aimed to elaborate the problem of energy-momentum in General Relativity. In this connection, we use the prescriptions of Einstein, Landau-Lifshitz, Papapetrou and Möller to compute the energy-momentum densities for two exact solutions of Einstein field equations. The spacetimes under consideration are the non-null Einstein-Maxwell solutions and the singularity-free cosmological model. The electromagnetic generalization of the Gödel solution and the Gödel metric become special cases of the non-null Einstein-Maxwell solutions. It turns out that these prescriptions do not provide co…
Five-dimensional relativity as an extension of general relativity has field equations that simplify considerably given the adoption of a new gauge. The result is a scalar field governed by the Klein-Gordon equation, in an empty spacetime with a cosmological constant governed by Einstein's equations. The main application is to the properties of massive particles in a vacuum-dominated universe.
We modify the Einstein-Schrodinger theory to include a cosmological constant $Λ_z$ which multiplies the symmetric metric, and we show how the theory can be easily coupled to additional fields. The cosmological constant $Λ_z$ is assumed to be nearly cancelled by Schrodinger's cosmological constant $Λ_b$ which multiplies the nonsymmetric fundamental tensor, such that the total $Λ=Λ_z+Λ_b$ matches measurement. The resulting theory becomes exactly Einstein-Maxwell theory in the limit as $|Λ_z|\to\infty$. For $|Λ_z|\sim 1/(Planck length)^2$ the field equations match the ordinary Einstein and Maxwel…
This paper presents a systematical study of stationary (rotating) cylindrical space-times of a Weyl form that are solutions to D=4 Einstein-Maxwell equations with cosmological constant. The corresponding equations of motion - with zero cosmological constant - are integrated. Then, several classes of exact solutions - obtained by restricting the range of the free constant parameters - are obtained and sub-cases corresponding to already known solutions are indicated.
The problem of cosmological constant and vacuum energy is usually thought of as the subject of general relativity. However, the vacuum energy is important for the Universe even in the absence of gravity, i.e. in the case when the Newton constant G is exactly zero, G=0. We discuss the response of the vacuum energy to the perturbations of the quantum vacuum in special relativity, and find that as in general relativity the vacuum energy density is on the order of the energy density of matter. In general relativity, the dependence of the vacuum energy on the equation of state of matter does not co…
In the R-Minkowski space-time, which we recently defined from an appropriate deformed Poisson brackets that reproduce the Fock coordinate transformation, we derive an extended form for Maxwell's equations by using a generalized version of Feynman's approach. Also, we establish in this context the Lorentz force. As in deformed special relativity, modifying the angular momentum in such a way as to restore the R-Lorentz algebra generates the magnetic Dirac monopole.
This paper elaborates the problem of energy-momentum in the framework of teleparallel equivalent of General Relativity. For this purpose, we consider energy-momentum prescription derived from the integral form of the constraint equations developed in the Hamiltonian formulation of the teleparallel equivalent of General Relativity. We use this technique to investigate energy-momentum of stationary axisymmetric Einstein-Maxwell solutions and cosmic string spacetimes. The angular momentum, gravitational and matter energy-momentum fluxes of these spacetimes are also evaluated. It is concluded that…
Ten conservation laws in useful polynomial form are derived from a Cartan form and Exterior Differential System (EDS) for the tetrad equations of vacuum relativity. The Noether construction of conservation laws for well posed EDS is introduced first, and an illustration given, deriving 15 conservation laws of the free field Maxwell Equations from symmetries of its EDS. The Maxwell EDS and tetrad gravity EDS have parallel structures, with their numbers of dependent variables, numbers of generating 2-forms and generating 3-forms, and Cartan character tables all in the ratio of 1 to 4. They have …
In this paper the Seiberg-Witten map is first analyzed for non-commutative Yang-Mills theories with the related methods, developed in the literature, for its explicit construction, that hold for any gauge group. These are exploited to write down the second-order Seiberg-Witten map for pure gravity with a constant non-commutativity tensor. In the analysis of pure gravity when the classical space-time solves the vacuum Einstein equations, we find for three distinct vacuum solutions that the corresponding non-commutative field equations do not have solution to first order in non-commutativity, wh…
For the plane symmetry we have found the electro-vacuum exact solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations and we have shown that one of them is equivalent to the McVittie solution of a charged infinite thin plane. The analytical extension has been accomplished and the Penrose conformal diagram has been obtained as well.
