By introducing external Maxwell and gravitational fields we modify the Bonnor--Vaidya field of an arbitrarily accelerating charged mass moving rectilinearly in order to satisfy the vacuum Einstein--Maxwell field equations approximately, assuming the charge $e$ and the mass $m$ are small of first order.

A magnetic-monopole solution of a non-Abelian gauge theory as proposed by 't Hooft and Polyakov is studied in the Vaidya spacetime. We find that the solutions of Einstein equations generates a geometry of the Bonnor-Vaidya corresponding to magnetically charged null fluid with Higgs field contributing a cosmological term. In the absence of the scalar fields the corresponding Wu-Yang solution of the gauge theory still generates the Bonnor-Vaidya geometry, but with no cosmological term.
We generalize the well-known Bonnor-Melvin solution of the Einstein-Maxwell equations to the case of a non-vanishing cosmological constant. The spacetime is again cylindrically symmetric and static but, unlike the original solution, it truly represents a homogeneous magnetic field.
It was originally thought that Bonnor's solution in Einstein-Maxwell theory describes a singular point-like magnetic dipole. Lately, however, it has been demonstrated that indeed it may describe a black {\it dihole}, i.e., a pair of static, oppositely-charged extremal black holes with regular horizons. Motivated particularly by this new interpretation, in the present work, the construction and extensive analysis of a solution in the context of the Brans-Dicke-Maxwell theory representing a black dihole are attempted. It has been known for some time that the solution-generating algorithm of Sing…
We show that the pseudotensors of Einstein, Tolman, Landau and Lifshitz, Papapetrou, and Weinberg (ETLLPW) give the same distributions of energy, linear momentum and angular momentum, for any Kerr-Schild metric. This result generalizes a previous work by Gürses and Gürsey that dealt only with the pseudotensors of Einstein and Landau and Lifshitz. We compute these distributions for the Kerr-Newman and Bonnor-Vaidya metrics and find reasonable results. All calculations are performed without any approximation in Kerr-Schild Cartesian coordinates. For the Reissner-Nordström metric these definition…
Hawking evaporation of photons in a Vaidya-de Sitter black hole is investigated by using the method of generalized tortoise coordinate transformation. Both the location and the temperature of the event horizon depend on the time. It is shown that Hawking radiation of photons exists only for the complex Maxwell scalar $ϕ_0$ in the advanced Eddington-Finkelstein coordinate system. This asymmetry of Hawking radiation for different components of Maxwell fields probably arises from the asymmetry of spacetime in the advanced Eddington-Finkelstein coordinate system. It is shown that the black body ra…

To clarify certain nonlinear properties of strong gravitational field, we investigate cylindrically symmetric gravitational waves that are localized as regular wave packets in the space of radial and time coordinates. The waves are constructed by applying a certain kind of harmonic mapping method to the seed solutions with linear polarization, which are generalizations of the solution representing a cylindrical gravitational pulse wave discussed by Weber-Wheeler and Bonnor. The solutions obtained here, though their form is rather simple, show occurrence of strong mutual conversion between a li…
We present a theorem in d-dimensional static, spherically symmetric spacetime in generic Lovelock gravity coupled with a non-linear electrodynamic source to generate solutions. The theorem states that irrespective of the order of the Lovelock gravity and non-linear Maxwell (NLM) Lagrangian, for the pure electric field case the NLM equations are satisfied by virtue of the Einstein-Lovelock equations. Applications of the theorem, specifically to the study of black hole solutions in Chern-Simons (CS) theory is given. Radiating version of the theorem has been considered, which generalizes the Bonn…
Bonnor stars are regular static compact configurations in equilibrium, composed of an extremal dust fluid, a charged dust fluid where the mass density is equal to the charge density, joined to an exterior vacuum solution, within Newtonian gravity and general relativity. In four dimensions, they obey the corresponding Majumdar-Papapetrou system, where the gravitational potential is a simple function of the electric potential field and the fluid, when there is one, is made of extremal dust. The Majumdar-Papapetrou system can be generalized to d spacetime dimensions. Thus, it is natural to study …
We construct exact, time-dependent, black hole solutions of Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory with arbitrary dilaton coupling, $a$. For $a=1$ this theory arises as the four-dimensional low-energy effective description of heterotic string theory. These solutions represent electrically charged, spherically symmetric black holes emitting or absorbing charged null fluids and generalize the Vaidya and Bonnor-Vaidya solutions of general relativity and of Einstein-Maxwell theory, respectively. The $a=1$ case stands out as special, in the sense that it is the only choice of the coupling that allows for …
We utilize a recent formulation of a spherically symmetric spacetime endowed with a general decomposition of the energy momentum tensor [Phys. Rev. D, 75, 024031 (2007)] to derive equations governing spherically symmetric distributions of electromagnetic matter. We show the system reduces to the Reissner-Nordstrom spacetime in general, spherically symmetric coordinates in the vacuum limit. Furthermore, we show reduction to the charged Vaidya spacetime in non-null coordinates when certain equations of states are chosen. A model of gravitational collapse is discussed whereby a charged fluid resi…
The field equations for static EGBM gravity are obtained and transformed to an equivalent form through a coordinate redefinition. A form for one of the metric potentials that generalises the spheroidal ansatz of Vaidya--Tikekar superdense stars and additionally prescribing the electric field intensity yields viable solutions. Some special cases of the general solution are considered and analogous classes in the Einstein framework are studied. In particular the Finch--Skea ansatz is examined in detail and found to satisfy the elementary physical requirements. These include positivity of pressur…
The effective gravitational mass as well as the energy and momentum distributions of a radiating charged particle in Einstein's universe are evaluated. The Moller's energy-momentum complex is employed for this computation. The spacetime under study is a generalization of Bonnor and Vaidya spacetime in the sense that the metric is described in the cosmological background of Einstein's universe in lieu of the flat background. Several spacetimes are limiting cases of the one considered here. Particularly for the Reissner-Nordstrom black hole background, our results are exactly the same with those…
We study a class of charged cosmological black holes defined by the Shah-Vaidya solution, which is similar to the McVittie solution but for a central object of nonzero electric charge. We show that the Shah-Vaidya metric is a solution of Einstein's equations with a cuscuton and a Maxwell fields as sources, as well as a mass parameter. We then analyze the possible causal structures of the solution under some few physically reasonable assumptions, and determine the regions in the parameter space corresponding to well behaved charged cosmological black holes and those corresponding to naked singu…
An axially symmetric exact solution of the Einstein-Maxwell equations is obtained and is interpreted to give the gravitational and electromagnetic fields of a charged tachyon. Switching off the charge parameter yields the solution for the uncharged tachyon which was earlier obtained by Vaidya. The null surfaces for the charged tachyon are discussed.
In this paper, we study dynamics of the charged plane symmetric gravitational collapse. For this purpose, we discuss non-adiabatic flow of a viscous fluid and deduce the results for adiabatic case. The Einstein and Maxwell field equations are formulated for general plane symmetric spacetime in the interior. Junction conditions between the interior and exterior regions are derived. For the non-adiabatic case, the exterior is taken as plane symmetric charged Vaidya spacetime while for the adiabatic case, it is described by plane Reissner-Nordstr$\ddot{o}$m spacetime. Using Misner and Sharp forma…
We investigate continuously self-similar solutions of four-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory supported by charged null fluids. We work under the assumption of spherical symmetry and the dilaton coupling parameter $a$ is allowed to be arbitrary. First, it is proved that the only such vacuum solutions with a time-independent asymptotic value of the dilaton necessarily have vanishing electric field, and thus reduce to Roberts' solution of the Einstein-dilaton system. Allowing for additional sources, we then obtain Vaidya-like families of self-similar solutions supported by charged null …
