We estimate the potential energy for a system of three static gluons in Lattice QCD. This is relevant for the different models of three-body glueballs have been proposed in the literature, either for gluons with a constituent mass, or for massless ones. A Wilson loop adequate to the static hybrid three-body system is developed. We study different spacial geometries, to compare the starfish model with the triangle model, for the three-gluon potential. We also study two different colour structures, symmetric and antisymmetric, and compare the respective static potentials. A first simulation is performed in a $24^3 \times 48$ periodic Lattice, with $β=6.2$ and $a \sim 0.072$ fm.
The Global Colour Model of QCD is used in conjunction with a pure-gluon lattice correlator (by Marenzoni et al.) to extract from meson data a momentum-dependent quark-gluon coupling down to $s \approx 0.3 GeV^2$. This is compared with a lattice calculation (by Skullerud) of the quark-gluon coupling.
A low energy effective field theory model for QCD with a scalar color octet field is discussed. The model relates the gluon mass, the constituent quark masses and the quark condensate. The gluon mass comes about $\sqrt{N_c}\, Λ_{QCD}$ with the quark condensate being proportional to the gluon mass squared. The model suggests that the restoration of chiral symmetry and the deconfinement transition occur at the same temperature and that, near the transition, the critical exponent for the condensate is twice the gluon mass one. The model also favors the decoupling like solution for the gluon propa…
We report on preliminary results for the triple-gluon and the quark-gluon vertex in Landau gauge. Our results are based on two-flavor and quenched lattice QCD calculations for different quark masses, lattice spacings and volumes. We discuss the momentum dependence of some of the vertices's form factors and the deviations from the tree-level form.
We address the interpretation of the Landau gauge gluon propagator at finite temperature as a massive type bosonic propagator. Using pure gauge SU(3) lattice simulations at a fixed lattice volume $\sim(6.5fm)^3$, we compute the electric and magnetic form factors, extract a gluon mass from Yukawa-like fits, and study its temperature dependence. This is relevant both for the Debye screening at high temperature $T$ and for confinement at low $T$.
The quenched Landau gauge gluon propagator is investigated in lattice QCD with large assimetric lattices, accessing momenta as low as $q \sim 100$ MeV or smaller. Our investigation focus on the IR limit of the gluon dressing function, testing the compatibility with recent solutions of the Dyson-Schwinger equations. In particular, the low energy parameters $κ$ and $α(0)$ are measured.
We study the gluon propagator in the Landau gauge in SU(3) lattice QCD at $β$=5.7, 5.8 and 6.0 at the quenched level. The Euclidean Landau-gauge gluon propagator $D(r)\equiv D_{μμ}^{aa}(x)/24$ is found to be well described by four-dimensional Yukawa-type function $e^{-mr}/r$ in the infrared and intermediate region of $r \equiv (x_μx_μ)^{1/2}$ = 0.1 $\sim$ 1.0fm. The infrared effective gluon mass is obtained as $m \simeq$ 600MeV. Associated with the 4D Yukawa-type gluon propagator, we derive analytical expressions for the zero-spatial-momentum propagator $D_0(t)$, the effective mass $M_{\rm eff…
Modeling glueballs as bound states of transverse constituent gluons allows to understand the main features of the lattice QCD glueball spectrum. In particular it has been shown in previous works that the lightest C-even glueballs can be seen as bound states of two transverse constituent gluons interacting via a funnel potential. In the present study we show that such an effective potential emerges from the available lattice QCD data. Starting from the scalar glueball mass and wave function computed in lattice QCD, we indeed compute the equivalent local potential between two transverse constitu…
2-color QCD, i. e. QCD with the gauge group SU(2), is the simplest non-Abelian gauge theory without sign problem at finite quark density. Therefore its study on the lattice is a benchmark for other non-perturbative approaches at finite density. To provide such benchmarks we determine the minimal-Landau-gauge 2-point and 3-gluon correlation functions of the gauge sector and the running gauge coupling at finite density. We observe no significant effects, except for some low-momentum screening of the gluons at and above the supposed high-density phase transition.
A treatment is given of the nonperturbative QCD vacuum in a magnetic field. The low-energy equation for the trace of the energy-momentum tensor in a magnetic field is derived. It is shown that the derivatives with respect to a magnetic field of the quark and gluon contributions to the trace of the energy-momentum tensor are equal. The dependence of the gluon condensate on the magnetic field strength is derived both for strong and weak fields.
We compute quark and gluon propagators in 2-colour QCD at large baryon chemical potential mu. The gluon propagator is found to be antiscreened at intermediate mu and screened at large mu. The quark propagator is drastically modified in the superfluid region as a result of the formation of a superfluid gap.
Thermal (Th-)QCD properties appear to disagree with lattice (L-)QCD results, which suggests that Th-QCD does not have a valid perturbative expansion. However, we reproduce L-QCD using the first order $α_s$ corrections in Th-QCD.
We study abelianization of QCD in the maximally abelian (MA) gauge. In the MA gauge, the off-diagonal gluon amplitude is strongly suppressed, and then the off-diagonal gluon phase shows strong randomness, which leads to a large off-diagonal gluon mass. Using lattice QCD, we find a large effective off-diagonal gluon mass in the MA gauge: $M_{\rm off} \simeq 1.2 {\rm GeV}$ in SU(2) QCD, $M_{\rm off} \simeq 1.1 {\rm GeV}$ in SU(3) QCD. Due to the large off-diagonal gluon mass in the MA gauge, infrared QCD is well abelianized like nonabelian Higgs theories. We investigate the inter-monopole potent…
The gluon propagator in the Landau gauge lattice QCD simulation of quenched 8^3 x 16 lattice is measured. The data suggests the confinement mechanism of the Gribov-Zwanziger theory.
We present non-perturbative first-principle results for quark-, gluon- and meson $1$PI correlation functions of two-flavour Landau-gauge QCD in the vacuum. These correlation functions carry the full information about the theory. They are obtained by solving their Functional Renormalisation Group equations in a systematic vertex expansion, aiming at apparent convergence. This work represents a crucial prerequisite for quantitative first-principle studies of the QCD phase diagram and the hadron spectrum within this framework. In particular, we have computed the gluon, ghost, quark and scalar-pse…
In lattice QCD the computation of one-particle irreducible (1PI) Green's functions with a large number (> 2) of legs is a challenging task. Besides tuning the lattice spacing and volume to reduce finite size effects, the problems associated with the estimation of higher order moments via Monte Carlo methods and the extraction of 1PI from complete Green's functions are limitations of the method. Herein, we address these problems revisiting the calculation of the three gluon 1PI Green's function.
Comparison of two appropriately chosen screening masses of colour singlet operators in the pure glue QCD plasma indicates that at sufficiently high temperature it contains a weakly-interacting massive quasi-particle with the quantum numbers of the electric gluon. Still in the deconfined phase, but closer to T_c, the same mass ratio is similar to that at zero temperature, indicating that the propagating modes are more glueball-like, albeit with a lower scale for the masses. We observe a continuity between these two regimes.
We present the first lattice QCD study of up to $3S$ and $2P$ bottomonia at non-zero temperatures. Correlation functions of bottomonia were computed using novel bottomonium operators and a variational technique, within the lattice non-relativistic QCD framework. We analyzed the bottomonium correlation functions based on simple physically-motivated spectral functions. We found evidence of sequential in-medium modifications, in accordance with the sizes of the bottomonium states.
We study the double-gluon hybrid states with the quark-gluon contents $\bar q q gg$ ($q=u/d$) and $\bar s s gg$. We construct twelve double-gluon hybrid currents with various quantum numbers, five of which are found to be zero due to some internal symmetries between the two gluon fields. We use the rest seven currents to perform QCD sum rule analyses. Especially, the masses of the double-gluon hybrid states with the exotic quantum number $J^{PC} = 2^{+-}$ are calculated to be $M_{|\bar q q gg;2^{+-}\rangle} = 2.26^{+0.20}_{-0.25}$ GeV and $M_{|\bar s s gg;2^{+-}\rangle} = 2.38^{+0.19}_{-0.25}$…
We analyze which momentum component of the gluon field induces spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking in lattice QCD. After removing the high-momentum or low-momentum component of the gluon field, we calculate the chiral condensate and observe the roles of these momentum components. The chiral condensate is found to be drastically reduced by removing the zero-momentum gluon. The reduction is about 40% of the total in our calculation condition. The nonzero-momentum infrared gluon also has a sizable contribution to the chiral condensate. From the Banks-Casher relation, this result reflects the non…
The static potentials for quark-antiquark-gluon and 3-gluon systems are computed with lattice QCD methods. For the quark-antiquark-gluon hybrid meson the static potential is obtained for different values of the angle between the quark-gluon and antiquark-gluon segments. The simulations support the formation of an adjoint string for small angles, while for large angles, the adjoint string is replaced by two fundamental strings connecting the gluon and the quarks. For the 3-gluon glueball, we discuss the corresponding Wilson loops and show that the gluons are connected by fundamental strings whe…
We present the first study of the gluonic excitation in the three-quark (3Q) system in SU(3) lattice QCD with $β$=5.8 and $16^3 \times 32 $ at the quenched level. For the spatially-fixed 3Q system, we measure the gluonic excited-state potential, which corresponds to the flux-tube vibrational energy in the flux-tube picture. The lowest gluonic-excitation energy in the 3Q system is found to be about 1GeV in the hadronic scale. This large gluonic-excitation energy is expected to bring about the success of the simple quark model without gluonic modes.
We study the properties of gluons in QCD in the maximally abelian (MA) gauge. In the MA gauge, the off-diagonal gluon behaves as the massive vector boson with the mass $\Meff \simeq 1.2 {\rm GeV}$, and therefore the off-diagonal gluon cannot carry the long-range interaction for $r \gg \Meff^{-1} \simeq 0.2$ fm. The essence of the infrared abelian dominance in the MA gauge is physically explained with the generation of the off-diagonal gluon mass $\Meff \simeq 1.2 {\rm GeV}$ induced by the MA gauge fixing, and the off-diagonal gluon mass generation would predict general infrared abelian dominan…
Landau gauge gluon propagators are studied numerically in the SU(3) gluodynamics as well as in the full QCD with the number of flavors $n_F=2$ using efficient gauge fixing technique. We compare these propagators at temperatures very close to the transition point in two phases : confinement and deconfinement. The electric mass $m_E$ has been determined from the momentum space longitudinal gluon propagator. Gribov copy effects are found to be rather strong in the gluodynamics, while in the full QCD case they are weak ("Gribov noise"). Also we analyse finite volume dependence of the transverse an…
The holographic light-front QCD framework provides a unified nonperturbative description of the hadron mass spectrum, form factors and quark distributions. In this article we extend holographic QCD in order to describe the gluonic distribution in both the proton and pion from the coupling of the metric fluctuations induced by the spin-two Pomeron with the energy momentum tensor in anti--de Sitter space, together with constraints imposed by the Veneziano model{\color{blue},} without additional free parameters. The gluonic and quark distributions are shown to have significantly different effecti…
We discuss the imaginary chemical potential approach to the study of QCD at nonzero temperature and density, present results for the four flavor model in the different phases and show that this method is ideally suited for a comparison between lattice data and phenomenological models.
Fundamental quantities of QCD, such as the strong coupling and $Λ_{QCD}$, are studied in the framework of lattice QCD with $N_f=2$ twisted mass fermions. In particular, the contact between lattice and continuous calculations is made by comparing the renormalized ghost-gluon vertex in MOM scheme with 4-loop perturbative results. A power correction is needed in order to have agreement between the two descriptions. This suggests the presence of a dimension-two $\VEV{A^2}$ gluon condensate whose value is found to be higher than in the quanched case.
Using SU(3) quenched lattice QCD, we study ground-state and low-lying even-parity excited-state potentials of quark-antiquark systems in terms of the gluon-momentum component in the Coulomb gauge. By introducing UV-cut in the gluon-momentum space, we investigate the "UV-gluon sensitivity" of the ground-state and excited-state potentials and the stringy excitation quantitatively. Even after cutting off high-momentum gluon component above 1.5GeV, the IR part of the ground-state potential is almost unchanged. On the other hand, the change of excited-state potential is more significant by the cut …
We study the UV-scaling of the flavorless gluon propagator in the Landau gauge in an energy window up to 9 GeV. Dominant hypercubic lattice artifacts are eliminated. A large set of renormalization schemes is used to test asymptotic scaling. We compare with our results obtained directly from the triple gluon vertex. We end-up with Λ_{\bar{\rm{MS}}} = 318(12)(5) MeV and 292(5)(15) MeV respectively for these two methods, compatible which each other but significantly above the Schrodinger method estimate.
We analyze the relation between Faddeev-Popov eigenmodes and gluon-momentum components in the Coulomb gauge using SU(3) lattice QCD. In the Coulomb gauge, the color-Coulomb energy is largely enhanced by near-zero Faddeev-Popov eigenmodes, which would lead to the confining potential. By the ultraviolet-momentum gluon cut, the color-Coulomb energy and the Faddeev-Popov spectrum are almost unchanged. In contrast to the ultraviolet insensitivity, the color-Coulomb energy and the Faddeev-Popov eigenmodes drastically change by infrared-momentum gluon cut. Without infrared gluons, the color-Coulomb e…
The quark-gluon vertex is an important object of QCD. Studies have shown that this quantity is relevant for the dynamical chiral symmetry breaking pattern in the vacuum. The goal of our project is to obtain the quark-gluon vertex at finite temperature around the deconfinement/chiral transition using the tools provided by lattice QCD. It will be the first time that the quark-gluon vertex at finite temperature is determined using lattice QCD. The propagators, which are a by-product of this project, are also of interest in themselves. The configurations used were generated by the FASTSUM collabor…
The compatibility of the pure power law infrared solution of QCD Dyson-Schwinger equations (DSE) and lattice data for the gluon and ghost propagators in Landau gauge is discussed. For the gluon propagator, the lattice data is compatible with the DSE infrared solution with an exponent $κ\sim0.53$, measured using a technique that suppresses finite volume effects and allows to model these corrections to the lattice data. For the ghost propagator, the lattice data does not seem to follow the infrared DSE power law solution.
The gluon propagator is computed in large asymmetric lattices, accessing momenta around 100 MeV and smaller. Our study tries to check the compatibility of the recent solutions of the gluon-ghost Dyson-Schwinger equations with lattice results. In particular the exponent $κ$, which characterizes the solutions for the infrared, is measured. Results favours a vanishing zero momentum gluon propagator. We also report on the compatibility of various functional forms used to fit the Dyson-Schwinger solution for the full range of momenta and the lattice gluon propagator.
In Landau gauge QCD the infrared behavior of the propagator of transverse gluons can be analytically determined to be a power law from Dyson-Schwinger equations. This propagator clearly shows positivity violation, indicating the absence of the transverse gluons from the physical spectrum, i.e. gluon confinement. A simple analytic structure for the gluon propagator is proposed capturing all important features. We provide arguments that the Landau gauge quark propagator possesses a singularity on the real timelike axis. For this propagator we find a positive definite Schwinger function.
The Landau-gauge gluon propagator is studied using the coarse and fine dynamical MILC configurations. The effects of dynamical quarks are clearly visible and lead to a reduction of the nonperturbative infrared enhancement relative to the quenched case. Lattice spacing effects are studied and found to be small. The gluon spectral function is shown to clearly violate positivity in both quenched and full QCD.
The interpretation of the Landau gauge lattice gluon propagator as a massive type bosonic propagator is investigated for i) an infrared constant gluon mass; ii) an ultraviolet constant gluon mass; iii) a momentum dependent mass. We find that the infrared data can be associated with a massive propagator with a constant gluon mass of 651(12) MeV, but the ultraviolet lattice data is not compatible this type of propagator. The scenario of a momentum dependent gluon mass gives a decreasing mass with the momentum, starting from a value of $\sim 630$ MeV in the infrared region and suggesting a $q^2 \…
We present an exploratory study of the gluonic structure of the $ϕ$ meson using lattice QCD (LQCD). This includes the first investigation of gluonic transversity via the leading moment of the twist-two double-helicity-flip gluonic structure function $Δ(x,Q^2)$. This structure function only exists for targets of spin $J\ge1$ and does not mix with quark distributions at leading twist, thereby providing a particularly clean probe of gluonic degrees of freedom. We also explore the gluonic analogue of the Soffer bound which relates the helicity flip and non-flip gluonic distributions, finding it to…
