A Riemannian metric $\wht{g}$ with Ricci curvature $\wht{\ri}$ is called nontrivial quasi-Einstein, in the sense of Case, Shu and Wei, if it satisfies $(-a/f)\wht{\nab} df+\wht{\ri}=λ\wht{g}$, for a smooth nonconstant function $f$ and constants $λ$ and $a>0$. If $a$ is a positive integer, by a result of Kim and Kim, such a metric forms a base for certain warped Einstein metrics. On a manifold $M$ of real dimension at least six, let $(g,\t)$ be a pair consisting of a Kähler metric $g$ which is locally Kähler irreducible, and a nonconstant Killing potential $\t$. Suppose the metric $\wht{g}=g/\t^2$ is nontrivial \bee on $M\setminus\t^{-1}(0)$, and the associated function $f$ is locally a function of $\t$. Then $(g,\t)$ is an \sk\ pair, a notion defined by Derdzinski and Maschler. This implies that $M$ is biholomorphic to an open set in the total space of a $CP^1$ bundle whose base manifold admits a Kähler-Einstein metric. If $M$ is additionally compact, it is a total space of such a bundle or complex projective space. Also, the function $f$ is affine in $\t^{-1}$ with nonzero constants. Conversely, in all even dimensions $n\geq 4$, there exist \sk pairs $(g,\t)$ and corresponding nonzero constants $K$ and $L$ for which $g/\t^2$ is nontrivial quasi-Einstein with $f=K\t^{-1}+L$. Additionally, a result of Case, Shu and Wei on the Kähler reducibility of nontrivial Kähler \bers is reproduced in dimension at least six in a more explicit form.
We characterize Osserman and conformally Osserman Riemannian manifolds with the local structure of a warped product. By means of this approach we analyze the twisted product structure and obtain, as a consequence, that the only Osserman manifolds which can be written as a twisted product are those of constant curvature.
We investigate Kähler metrics conformal to gradient Ricci solitons, and base metrics of warped product gradient Ricci solitons. The latter we name quasi-solitons. A main assumption that is employed is functional dependence of the soliton potential, with the conformal factor in the first case, and with the warping function in the second. The main result in the first case is a partial classification in dimension $n\geq 4$. In the second case, Kähler quasi-soliton metrics satisfying the above main assumption are shown to be, under an additional genericity hypothesis, necessarily Riemannian produc…
Generalized Roter type manifold is a generalization of conformally flat manifold as well as Roter type manifold, which gives rise the form of the curvature tensor in terms of algebraic combinations of the fundamental metric tensor and Ricci tensors upto level 2. The object of the present paper is to investigate the characterizations of a warped product manifold to be generalized Roter-type. We also present an example of a warped product manifold which is generalized Roter type but not Roter type, and also an example of a warped product manifold which is Roter type but not conformally flat. The…
We show that locally conformally flat quasi-Einstein manifolds are globally conformally equivalent to a space form or locally isometric to a $pp$-wave or a warped product.
In this paper we prove that any complete locally conformally flat quasi-Einstein manifold of dimension $n\geq 3$ is locally a warped product with $(n-1)$-dimensional fibers of constant curvature. This result includes also the case of locally conformally flat gradient Ricci solitons.
We study pseudo-Riemannian Einstein manifolds which are conformally equivalent with a metric product of two pseudo-Riemannian manifolds. Particularly interesting is the case where one of these manifolds is 1-dimensional and the case where the conformal factor depends on both manifolds simultaneously. If both factors are at least 3-dimensional then the latter case reduces to the product of two Einstein spaces, each of the special type admitting a non-trivial conformal gradient field. These are completely classified. If each factor is 2-dimensional, there is a special family of examples of non-c…
It is shown that locally conformally flat Lorentzian gradient Ricci solitons are locally isometric to a Robertson-Walker warped product, if the gradient of the potential function is non null, and to a plane wave, if the gradient of the potential function is null. The latter gradient Ricci solitons are necessarily steady.
We describe and construct here pseudo-Hermitian structures $θ$ without torsion (i.e. with transversal symmetry) whose Webster-Ricci curvature tensor is a constant multiple of the exterior differential $dθ$. We call these structures pseudo-Hermitian Einstein and our result states that they all can be derived locally from K{ä}hler-Einstein metrics. Moreover, we discuss the corresponding Fefferman metrics of the pseudo-Hermitian Einstein structures. These Fefferman metrics are never Einstein, but they are locally always conformally Einstein.
First, we show that a warped product of a line and a fiber manifold is weakly conformally flat and quasi Einstein if and only if the fiber is Einstein. Next, we characterize and classify contact (in particular, $K$-contact) Riemannian manifold satisfying weakly (and doubly weakly) conformally flat and quasi-Einstein ($η$-Einstein) conditions. Finally, we provide local classification and characterization of a semi-Riemannian (including the 4-dimensional spacetime) with harmonic Weyl tensor and a non-homothetic conformal (including closed) vector field, in terms of Petrov types and Bach tensor.
In this paper we prove that under certain conditions in a quasi Einstein semi Riemannian warped product the fiber is necessarily a Einstein manifold. We provide all the quasi Einstein manifolds when r Bakry Emery tensor is null, the base is conformal to an n-dimensional pseudo-Euclidean space invariant under the action of an n - 1 dimensional translation group and the fiber is Ricci flat. As an application, we have built a family of Ricci flat Einstein warped product whose base is not locally conformally flat.
We study the affine quasi-Einstein Equation for homogeneous surfaces. This gives rise through the modified Riemannian extension to new half conformally flat generalized quasi-Einstein neutral signature $(2,2)$ manifolds, to conformally Einstein manifolds and also to new Einstein manifolds through a warped product construction.
We overview the properties of non-infinitesimal deformations of G2-structures on seven-manifolds, and in particular, focus on deformations that lie in the seven-dimensional representation of G2 and are thus defined by a vector. We then consider deformations from G2-structures with the torsion class having one-dimensional and seven-dimensional components (so-called conformally nearly parallel G2-manifolds) to G2-structures with just a one-dimensional torsion component (nearly parallel G2-manifolds). We find that deformations between such structures exist if and only if the metric is a particula…
In this paper, we mainly study gradient $ρ$-Einstein solitons on doubly warped product manifolds. More explicitly, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for a doubly warped product manifold to be a gradient $ρ$-Einstein soliton. We also apply our main result to warped product spacetime models such as generalized Robertson-Walker and standard static spacetimes as well as 3-dimensional Walker manifolds. We finally establish that there is no 3-dimensional esentially conformally symmetric gradient $ρ$-Einstein soliton.
In this paper we take the perspective introduced by Case-Shu-Wei of studying warped product Einstein metrics through the equation for the Ricci curvature of the base space. They call this equation on the base the $m$-Quasi Einstein equation, but we will also call it the $(λ,n+m)$-Einstein equation. In this paper we extend the work of Case-Shu-Wei and some earlier work of Kim-Kim to allow the base to have non-empty boundary. This is a natural case to consider since a manifold without boundary often occurs as a warped product over a manifold with boundary, and in this case we get some interestin…
Warped product manifolds with p-dimensional base, p=1,2, satisfy some curvature conditions of pseudosymmetry type. These conditions are formed from the metric tensor g, the Riemann-Christoffel curvature tensor R, the Ricci tensor S and the Weyl conformal curvature C of the considered manifolds. The main result of the paper states that if p=2 and the fibre is a semi-Riemannian space of constant curvature, if n is greater or equal to 4, then the (0,6)-tensors R.R - Q(S,R) and C.C of such warped products are proportional to the (0,6)-tensor Q(g,C) and the tensor C is expressed by a linear combina…
Let (M,g) be a 2-quasi-Einstein non-conformally flat semi-Riemannian manifold of dimension > 3. We prove that if its Riemann-Christoffel curvature tensor R is a linear combination of some Kulkarni-Nomizu tensors formed by the metric tensor g, the Ricci tensor S and its square S^2, then some pseudosymmetry type curvature conditions are satisfied. Certain non-conformally flat warped product manifolds with 2-dimensional base, and in particular some spacetimes, are such 2-quasi Einstein manifolds.
We prove structure results for homogeneous spaces that support a non-constant solution to two general classes of equations involving the Hessian of a function and an invariant 2-tensor. We also consider trace-free versions of these systems. Our results generalize earlier rigidity results for gradient Ricci solitons and warped product Einstein metrics. In particular, our results apply to homogeneous gradient solitons of any invariant curvature flow and give a new structure result for homogeneous conformally Einstein metrics.
This is the first of two companion papers in which a thorough study of the normal form and the first integrability conditions arising from {\em bi-conformal vector fields} is presented. These new symmetry transformations were introduced in {\em Class. Quantum Grav.} \textbf{21}, 2153-2177 and some of their basic properties were addressed there. In our calculations a new affine connection ({\em bi-conformal connection}) arises quite naturally and this connection enables us to find a local characterization of {\em conformally separable} pseudo-Riemannian manifolds (also called double twisted pro…
We consider spacetimes consisting of a manifold with Lorentzian metric and a weight function or scalar field. These spacetimes admit a Bakry-Émery-Ricci tensor which is a natural generalization of the Ricci tensor. We impose an energy condition on the Bakry-Émery-Ricci tensor and obtain singularity theorems of a cosmological type, both for zero and for positive cosmological constant. That is, we find conditions under which every timelike geodesic is incomplete. These conditions are given by "open" inequalities, so we examine the borderline (equality) cases and show that certain singularities a…
