We propose a generalization of the Bagger-Lambert-Gustavsson action as a candidate for the description of an arbitrary number of M2-branes. The action is formulated in terms of N=2 superfields in three dimensions and corresponds to an extension of the usual superfield formulation of Chern-Simons matter theories. Demanding gauge invariance of the resulting theory does not imply the total antisymmetry of the underlying 3-Lie algebra structure constants. We relax this condition and propose a class of examples for these generalized 3-Lie algebras. We also discuss how to associate various ordinary Lie algebras.
A family of Majumdar-Papapetrou type solutions in sigma-model of p-brane origin is obtained for all direct sums of finite-dimensional simple Lie algebras. Several examples of p-brane dyonic configurations in D=10 (IIA) and D=11 supergravities corresponding to the Lie algebra sl(3,C) are considered.
We find that the structure constants 4-form of a metric 3-Lie algebra is the sum of the volume forms of orthogonal 4-planes proving a conjecture in math/0211170. In particular, there is no metric 3-Lie algebra associated to a $\mathfrak{u}(N)$ Lie algebra for $N>2$. We examine the implication of this result on the existence of a multiple M2-brane theory based on metric 3-Lie algebras.
We consider a low-energy effective action for the gauge field on Wess-Zumino-Witten D-branes in a compact simple Lie group, in the limit of large k. We prove that the effective action is bounded from below, and study stability of various D-brane configurations, including some class of non-maximally symmetric ones. We show that for Lie groups of rank higher than one, the D-brane ground state breaks the Kac-Moody symmetry of the boundary theory. We then give arguments hinting that the "fuzzy sphere" D2-brane which is known to be the stable brane configuration in the case of SU(2), may also corre…
We derive the super Yang-Mills action of Dp-branes on a torus T^{p-4} from the nonabelian (2,0) theory with Lie 3-algebra. Our realization is based on Lie 3-algebra with pairs of Lorentzian metric generators. The resultant theory then has negative norm modes, but it results in a unitary theory by setting VEV's of these modes. This procedure corresponds to the torus compactification, therefore by taking a transformation which is equivalent to T-duality, the Dp-brane action is obtained. We also study type IIA/IIB NS5-brane and Kaluza-Klein monopole systems by taking other VEV assignments. Such v…
We review various generalizations of the notion of Lie algebras, in particular those appearing in the recently proposed Bagger-Lambert-Gustavsson model, and study their interrelations. We find that Filippov's n-Lie algebras are a special case of strong homotopy Lie algebras. Furthermore, we define a class of homotopy Maurer-Cartan equations, which contains both the Nahm and the Basu-Harvey equations as special cases. Finally, we show how the super Yang-Mills equations describing a Dp-brane and the Bagger-Lambert-Gustavsson equations supposedly describing M2-branes can be rewritten as homotopy …
We consider the realization of affine ADE Lie algebras as string junctions on mutually non-local 7-branes in Type IIB string theory. The existence of the affine algebra is signaled by the presence of the imaginary root junction ``delta'', which is realized as a string encircling the 7-brane configuration. The level k of an affine representation partially constrains the asymptotic (p,q) charges of string junctions departing the configuration. The junction intersection form reproduces the full affine inner product, plus terms in the asymptotic charges.
Using the concept of 3-Lie bialgebra, which has recently been defined in arXiv:1604.04475, we construct Bagger-Lambert-Gustavson (BLG) model for M2-brane on Manin triple of a special 3-Lie bialgebra. Then by using the correspondence and relation between those 3-Lie bialgebra with Lie bialgebra, we reduce this model to an $N=(4,4)$ WZW model (D2-brane), such that, its algebraic structure is a Lie bialgebra with one 2-cocycle. In this manner by using correspondence of 3-Lie bialgebra and Lie bialgebra (for this special 3-Lie algebra) one can construct M2-brane from a D2-brane and vice versa.
We show that the WZW model on the Heisenberg Lie group $H_4$ has Poisson-Lie symmetry only when the dual Lie group is ${ A}_2 \oplus 2{ A}_1$. In this way, we construct the mutual T-dual sigma models on Drinfel'd double generated by the Heisenberg Lie group $H_4$ and its dual pair, ${ A}_2 \oplus 2{ A}_1$, as the target space in such a way that the original model is the same as the $H_4$ WZW model. Furthermore, we show that the dual model is conformal up to two loops order. Finally, we discuss $D$-branes and the worldsheet boundary conditions defined by a gluing matrix on the $H_4$ WZW model. …
Motivated by the recent proposal of an N=8 supersymmetric action for multiple M2-branes, we study the Lie 3-algebra in detail. In particular, we focus on the fundamental identity and the relation with Nambu-Poisson bracket. Some new algebras not known in the literature are found. Next we consider cubic matrix representations of Lie 3-algebras. We show how to obtain higher dimensional representations by tensor products for a generic 3-algebra. A criterion of reducibility is presented. We also discuss the application of Lie 3-algebra to the membrane physics, including the Basu-Harvey equation an…
Global issues of the Poisson-Lie T-duality are addressed. It is shown that oriented open strings propagating on a group manifold $G$ are dual to $D$-brane - anti-$D$-brane pairs propagating on the dual group manifold $\ti G$. The $D$-branes coincide with the symplectic leaves of the standard Poisson structure induced on the dual group $\ti G$ by the dressing action of the group $G$. T-duality maps the momentum of the open string into the mutual distance of the $D$-branes in the pair. The whole picture is then extended to the full modular space $M(D)$ of the Poisson-Lie equivalent $\si$-models …
We construct the effective theory of intersecting branes and investigate the BPS monopoles in the theory. The monopoles obtained are the generalization of Nielsen-Olesen vortex. We study the properties of the solutions and interpret them as the D0-branes on the brane-intersections.
We write the conditions for open strings with charged endpoints in the language of gluing matrices. We identify constraints imposed on the gluing matrices that are essential in this setup and investigate the question of their invariance under the Poisson-Lie T-plurality transformations. We show that the chosen set of constraints is equivalent to the statement that the lifts of D-branes into the Drinfel'd double are right cosets with respect to a maximally isotropic subgroup and therefore it is invariant under the Poisson-Lie T-plurality transformations.
The characterization of the DBI action of a Dp-brane using the generalized geometry is discussed. It is shown that the DBI action is invariant under the diffeomorphism and B-transformation of the generalized tangent bundle of the target space. The symmetry is realized non-linearly on the fluctuation of the D-brane.
We use toric geometry to investigate the recently proposed relation between a set of D3 branes at a generalized conifold singularity and type IIA configurations of D4 branes stretched between a number of relatively rotated NS5 branes. In particular we investigate how various resolutions of the singularity corresponds to moving the NS branes and how Seiberg's duality is realized when two relatively rotated NS-branes are interchanged.
We search for integrable boundary conditions and their geometric interpretation as $D$-branes, in models constructed as generalized $λ$-deformations of products of group- and coset-spaces. Using the sigma-model approach, we find that all the conformal brane geometries known in the literature for a product of WZW models solve the corresponding boundary conditions, thus persisting as integrable branes along the RG flows of our sigma-models. They consist of the well known $G$-conjugacy classes, twisted $G$-conjugacy classes by a permutation automorphism (permutation branes) and generalized permut…
In this note we analyze the geometry of maximally symmetric boundary conditions in Lie supergroup Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten models. We find that generically the worldvolume of a brane is a twisted superconjugacy class, very much like in the Lie group case. Whenever the brane is not completely delocalized in the fermionic directions a new atypical class of branes arises. We give an example of these new branes and show for type I supergroups and trivial gluing conditions that they can be naturally associated with atypical representations of the affine Lie superalgebra.
Using quiver gauge theories in (1+2)-dimensions, we give brane realizations of a class of Quantum Hall Solitons (QHS) embedded in Type IIA superstring on the ALE spaces with exotic singularities. These systems are obtained by considering two sets of wrapped D4-branes on 2-spheres. The space-time on which the QHS live is identified with the world-volume of D4-branes wrapped on a collection of intersecting 2-spheres arranged as extended Dynkin diagrams of Kac-Moody Lie algebras. The magnetic source is given by an extra orthogonal D4-brane wrapping a generic 2-cycle in the ALE spaces. It is shown…
We extend previous results on generalized calibrations to describe supersymmetric branes in supergravity backgrounds with diverse fields turned on, and provide several new classes of examples. As an important application, we show that supersymmetric D-branes in compactifications with field strength fluxes, and on SU(3)-structure spaces, wrap generalized calibrated submanifolds, defined by simple conditions in terms of the underlying globally defined, but non-closed, 2- and 3-forms. We provide examples where the geometric moduli of D-branes (for instance D7-branes in 3-form flux configurations)…
Electric S-brane solutions with two non-composite electric branes and a set of l scalar fields are considered. The intersection rules for branes correspond to Lie algebras A_2, C_2 and G_2. The solutions contain five factor spaces. One of them, M_0, is interpreted as our 3-dimensional space. It is shown that there exists a time interval where accelerated expansion of our 3-dimensional space is compatible with a small enough variation of the effective gravitational constant G(τ). This interval contains τ_0, a point of minimum of the function G(τ). A special solution with two phantom scalar fiel…
In generalized complex geometry, D-branes can be seen as maximally isotropic spaces and are thus in one-to-one correspondence with pure spinors. When considered on the sum of the tangent and cotangent bundles to the ambient space, all the branes are of the same dimension and the transverse scalars enter on par with the gauge fields; the split between the longitudinal and transverse directions is done in accordance with the type of the pure spinor corresponding to the given D-brane. We elaborate on the relation of this picture to the T-duality transformations and stability of D-branes. A discus…
We give a systematic account of symmetric D-branes in the Lie group SU(3). We determine both the classical and quantum moduli space of (twisted) conjugacy classes in terms of the (twisted) Stiefel diagram of the Lie group. We show that the allowed (twisted) conjugacy classes are in one-to-one correspondence with the integrable highest weight representations of the (twisted) affine Lie algebra. In particular, we show how the charges of these D-branes fit in the twisted K-theory groups.
Based on the DBI action for the four coincident non-BPS D9-branes in the type IIA string theory we demonstrate that the gauge symmetry breaking through the tachyon condensation into the generalized monopole of codimension five produces a pair of two coincident BPS D4-branes. The nontrivial gauge field configuration is studied and shown to yield the non-zero generalized magnetic charge. We discuss how this explicit demonstration is related with the higher K-theory group.
We show that the Bagger-Lambert-Gustavsson (BLG) theory with two pairs of negative norm generators is derived from the scaling limit of an orbifolded Aharony-Bergman-Jafferis-Maldacena (ABJM) theory. The BLG theory with many Lorentzian pairs is known to be reduced to the Dp-brane theory via Higgs mechanism, so our scaling procedure can be used to derive Dp-branes directly from M2-branes in the field theory language. In this paper, we focus on the D3-brane case and investigate the scaling limits of various quiver Chern-Simons theories obtained from different orbifolding actions. Remarkably, in …
In this work, we investigate braneworld models in mimetic gravity, with the source field having generalized dynamics. We present the mathematical description necessary to study the generalized model and consider the first-order formalism to solve the equations of motion. We also investigate the linear stability of the gravitational sector to verify that the model is stable. In particular, we consider two specific situations where we were able to get exact solutions with a kink-like profile and calculate several important properties of the brane.
We consider a generalized Randall Sundrum (RS) brane world scenario with a cosmological constant $Ω$ induced on the visible brane. We show that for $Ω<0$, resolution of the hierarchy problem requires an upper bound on the magnitude of $Ω$. The corresponding tension on the visible brane can be positive or negative. On the other hand, there is no such bound for $Ω>0$. However, in this case, the resolution of the hierarchy problem along with the tuning of the value of the cosmological constant to its observed value closed to $+10^{-124}$ (in Planck units) naturally lead to the tuning of the modul…
We consider chains of generalized submanifolds, as defined by Gualtieri in the context of generalized complex geometry, and define a boundary operator that acts on them. This allows us to define generalized cycles and the corresponding homology theory. Gauge invariance demands that D-brane networks on flux vacua must wrap these generalized cycles, while deformations of generalized cycles inside of a certain homology class describe physical processes such as the dissolution of D-branes in higher-dimensional D-branes and MMS-like instantonic transitions. We introduce calibrations that identify t…
Starting from the usual bosonic membrane action, we develop the geometry suitable for the description of $p$-brane backgrounds. Using the tools of generalized geometry we derive the generalization of string open-closed relations. Nambu-Poisson structures are used to generalize the concept of semiclassical noncommutativity of $D$-branes governed by Poisson tensor. We naturally describe the correspondence of recently proposed commutative and noncommutative versions of an effective action for $p$-branes ending on a $p'$-brane. We calculate the power series expansion of the action in background in…
In this short printed version of my talk I consider the generalized action for super-p-branes proposed previously in collaboration with D. Sorokin and Dmitrij V. Volkov. I describe briefly, the derivation doubly supersymmetric geometric approach from the generalized action and discuss one of the direction of its possible application.
Tensionless super-p-branes in a generalized superspace with additional tensorial central charge coordinates may provide an extended object model for BPS preons, i.e. for the hypothetical constituents of M-theory preserving 31 of 32 supersymmetries [hep-th/0101113].
We introduce generalized calibrations that take into account the gauge field on the D-brane so that calibrated submanifolds minimize the Dirac-Born-Infeld energy. We establish the calibration bound and show that the calibration form is closed in a supersymmetric background with non-vanishing NS-NS 3-form H and dilaton. We show that the calibration conditions are equivalent to the existence of unbroken supersymmetry on the D-brane. We study the problem of supersymmetric D-branes in the presence of non-vanishing H also from the world-sheet approach and find exactly the same conditions. Finally, …
In string theory, stacks of D1-branes can expand into intersecting D3-branes. These configurations are called (generalized) BIons. We show how the analogous constructions in M-theory, where M2-branes blow up into calibrated intersections of M5-branes, arise from some of the membrane theories.
We study in detail the extension of the generalized conformal symmetry proposed previously for D-particles to the case of supersymmetric Yang-Mills matrix models of Dp-branes for arbitrary p. It is demonstrated that such a symmetry indeed exists both in the Yang-Mills theory and in the corresponding supergravity backgrounds produced by Dp-branes. On the Yang-Mills side, we derive the field-dependent special conformal transformations for the collective coordinates of Dp-branes in the one-loop approximation, and show that they coincide with the transformations on the supergravity side. These tra…
Lorentzian signature D-branes of all dimensions for the Nappi-Witten string are constructed. This is done by rewriting the gluing condition $J_+=FJ_-$ for the model chiral currents on the brane as a well posed first order differential problem and by solving it for Lie algebra isometries $F$ other than Lie algebra automorphisms. By construction, these D-branes are not twined conjugacy classes. Metrically degenerate D-branes are also obtained.
Following the general formalism reviewed in 0810.5355 [hep-th] we present several examples of possible D3-brane configurations on four-dimensional generalized Kaehler geometries. We will discuss T-duality transformations in N = 2 boundary superspace and apply the duality transformations to the constructed D3-branes. The duality transformations lead to a systematic method to construct coisotropic branes, even on target spaces that are not hyper-Kaehler.
Constructing M2-brane and its boundary conditions from D2-brane and the related boundary conditions and vice versa has been possible in our recent work by using 3-Lie bialgebra for BLG model with N = 8 supersymmetry. This could be generalized for BL model with N = 6 by the concept of the 3-Leibniz bialgebra. The 3-Lie bialgebra is an especial case of 3-Leibniz bialgebra, then more comprehensive information will be obtained in this work. Consequently, according to the correspondence of these 3-Leibniz bialgebras with Lie bialgebras, we reduce to D2-brane such that with some restrictions on the …
It is shown that a Moyal deformation quantization of the SO(4k) Generalized Yang-Mills (GYM) theory action in D=4k dimensions, for spacetime independent field configurations, in the $\hbar \to 0$ limit, yields the Dirac-Nambu-Goto p-brane actions (obtained from the conformally invariant Dolan-Tchrakian p-brane actions after elimination of the auxiliary world volume metrics), in the orthonormal gauge, for p+1=4k world volumes embedded in a D=4k target spacetime background. The gauge fields/target spacetime coordinates correspondence is required but no large N limit is necessary. The equivalence…
We study a smooth cosmological solution within a generalized 5D standing wave braneworld modeled by gravity and a phantom scalar field. In this model the 3-brane is anisotropically warped along its spatial dimensions and contains a novel time-dependent scale factor that multiplies the anisotropic spatial interval of the 5D metric, a fact that allows us to study cosmological effects. By explicitly solving the bulk field equations we found a natural mechanism which isotropizes the braneworld for a wide class of natural initial conditions. We are able to give a physical interpretation of the anis…
The action for the D=10 type II Dirichlet super-p-branes, which has been obtained recently, is reconstructed in a more geometrical form involving Lorentz harmonic variables. This new (Lorentz-harmonic) formulation possesses kappa-symmetry in an irreducible form and is used as a basis for applying a generalized action principle that provides the superfield equations of motion and clarifies the geometrical nature of the kappa-symmetry of these models. The case of a Dirichlet super-3-brane is considered in detail.
A brief introduction to superembedding approach (SEA) in its variant based on the generalized action principle (GAP) for super-p-branes is given. A role of harmonic variables for Lorentz group is stressed. A relation of the GAP with complete superfield actions is noted. Recent applications in studying of Dirichlet branes (super-Dp-branes) and M-branes are discussed.
The Newton-Hooke algebras in d dimensions are constructed as contractions of dS(AdS) algebras. Non-relativistic brane actions are WZ terms of these Newton-Hooke algebras. The NH algebras appear also as subalgebras of multi-temporal relativistic conformal algebras, SO(d+1, p+2). We construct generalizations of pp-wave metrics from these algebras.
In this paper, we generalize a boundary state to the one incorporating non-constant gauge field strength as an external background coupled to the boundary of a string worldsheet in bosonic string theory. This newly defined boundary state satisfies generalized nonlinear boundary conditions with non-constant gauge field strength, and is BRST invariant. The divergence immanent in this boundary state coincide with the one calculated in a string sigma model. We extract the relevant massless part of this generalized boundary state, and give a part of the D-brane action with the non-constant gauge fi…
We complete the study of the Poisson-Sigma model over Poisson-Lie groups. Firstly, we solve the models with targets $G$ and $G^*$ (the dual group of the Poisson-Lie group $G$) corresponding to a triangular $r$-matrix and show that the model over $G^*$ is always equivalent to BF-theory. Then, given an arbitrary $r$-matrix, we address the problem of finding D-branes preserving the duality between the models. We identify a broad class of dual branes which are subgroups of $G$ and $G^*$, but not necessarily Poisson-Lie subgroups. In particular, they are not coisotropic submanifolds in the general …
Non-abelian gauge theories in the context of generalized complex geometry are discussed. The generalized connection naturally contains standard gauge and scalar fields, unified in a purely geometric way. We define the corresponding Yang-Mills theory on particular subbundles of a Courant algebroid, known as Dirac structures, where the generalized curvature is a tensor. Different Dirac structures correspond to different known theories, such as the bosonic sector of maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills in ten and four dimensions and reduced matrix models. Furthermore, we revisit the non-abelian wo…
We compute the four-dimensional gaugino mass for a Dp-brane extended in spacetime and wrapping a cycle on the internal geometry in a warped compactification with fluxes. Motivated by the backreaction of gaugino bilinear VEVs, we use Generalized Complex Geometry to characterize the internal geometry as well as the cycle wrapped by the brane. We find that the RR fluxes and the non-closure of the generalized complex structures combine in the gaugino mass terms in the same form as they do in the bulk superpotential, while for the NSNS fluxes there is a crucial minus sign in the component normal to…
The geometric description of D-branes in WZW models is pushed forward. Our starting point is a gluing condition\, $J_{+}=FJ_-$ that matches the model's chiral currents at the worldsheet boundary through a linear map $F$ acting on the WZW Lie algebra. The equivalence of boundary and gluing conditions of this type is studied in detail. The analysis involves a thorough discussion of Frobenius integrability, shows that $F$ must be an isometry, and applies to both metrically degenerate and nondegenerate D-branes. The isometry $F$ need not be a Lie algebra automorphism nor constantly defined over th…
We consider the reduced, quenched version of a generalized Yang-Mills action in 4k-dimensional spacetime. This is a new kind of matrix theory which is mapped through the Weyl-Wigner-Moyal correspondence into a field theory over a non-commutative phase space. We show that the ``classical'' limit of this field theory is encoded into the effective action of an open, (4k-1)-dimensional, bulk brane enclosed by a dynamical, Chern-Simons type, (4k-2)-dimensional, boundary brane. The bulk action is a pure volume term, while the boundary action carries all the dynamical degrees of freedom.
In this paper, we work out in detail the tadpole cancellation conditions as well as the generalized Green-Schwarz mechanism for type IIB orientifold compactifications with D3- and D7-branes. We find that not only the well-known D3- and D7-tadpole conditions have to be satisfied, but in general also the vanishing of the induced D5-brane charges leads to a non-trivial constraint. In fact, for the case $h^{1,1}_{-} \neq 0$ the latter condition is important for the cancellation of chiral anomalies. We also extend our analysis by including D9- as well as D5-branes and determine the rules for comput…
We study the stabilization of inter-brane spacing modulus of generalized warped brane models with a nonzero brane cosmological constant. Employing Goldberger-Wise stabilization prescription of brane world models with a bulk scalar field, we show that the stabilized value of the modulus generally depends on the value of the brane cosmological constant. Our result further reveals that the stabilized modulus value corresponding to a vanishingly small cosmological constant can only resolve the gauge hierarchy problem simultaneously. This in turn vindicates the original Randall-Sundrum model where …
Departing from the observation that the Penrose limit of AdS_3 x S^3 is a group contraction in the sense of Inonu and Wigner, we explore the relation between the symmetric D-branes of AdS_3 x S^3 and those of its Penrose limit, a six-dimensional symmetric plane wave analogous to the four-dimensional Nappi--Witten spacetime. Both backgrounds are Lie groups admitting bi-invariant lorentzian metrics and symmetric D-branes wrap their (twisted) conjugacy classes. We determine the (twisted and untwisted) symmetric D-branes in the plane wave background and we prove the existence of a space-filling D5…
We reformulate the bosonic action of unstable M3-brane to manifest its algebraic representation. It is seen that in contrast with string and M2-brane actions that are represented only in terms of two and three dimensional Lie-algebras respectively, the algebraic form of M3-brane action is a combination of four, three and two dimensional Lie-algebras. Corresponding brackets appear as mixtures of tachyon field, space-time coordinates, $X$, two-form field, $\hatω^{(2)}$, and Born-Infeld one-form, $\hat{b}_μ$.
In this work we obtain topological and dual theories on brane-worlds in several dimensions. Our brane is a solitonic-like hypersurface embedded in a space-time with a specific dimensionality and it appears due to the breaking of a Peccei-Quinn-like symmetry. In the first part of this work, the obtained topological theories are related to a generalization of the axion-foton anomalous interaction in D=4 (in the Abelian case) and to the Wess-Zumino term (in the non-Abelian case). In the second part, we construct dual models on the brane through a mechanism of explicit Lorentz symmetry breaking. T…
We propose an equation that describes M2-branes ending on M5-branes, and which generalizes the description of the D1-D3 system via Nahm's equation. The simplest solution to this equation constructs the transverse geometry in terms of a fuzzy three sphere. We show that the solution passes a number of consistency checks including a consistent reduction to the D1-D3 system, a calculation of the energy of the system, matching to the self-dual string solution in the M5-brane world volume, and a study of simple fluctuations about the ground state configuration. We write down certain terms in the eff…
The notion of generalized gravitational entropy introduced by Lewkowycz and Maldacena allows, via the AdS/CFT correspondence, to calculate CFT entanglement entropies. We adapt the method to the case where flavor branes are present and treated in the probe approximation. This allows to calculate the leading flavor correction to the CFT entanglement entropy from the on-shell action of the probe, while dealing with the backreaction is avoided entirely and from the outset. As an application we give concise derivations for the contribution of massless and massive flavor degrees of freedom to the en…
The Higgs sector of the low-energy physics of n of coincident D-branes contains the necessary elements for constructing noncommutative manifolds. The coordinates orthogonal to the coincident branes, as well as their conjugate momenta, take values in the Lie algebra of the gauge group living inside the brane stack. In the limit when n=\infty (and in the absence of orientifolds), this is the unitary Lie algebra u(\infty). Placing a smooth manifold K orthogonally to the stack of coincident D-branes one can construct a noncommutative C*-algebra that provides a natural definition of a noncommutativ…
We consider a generalised two brane Randall-Sundrum model with non-zero cosmological constant on the visible TeV brane. Massive Kaluza-Klein modes for various bulk fields namely graviton, gauge field and antisymmetric second rank Kalb-Ramond field in a such generalized Randall-Sundrum scenario are determined. The masses for the Kaluza-Klein excitations of different bulk fields are found to depend on the brane cosmological constant indicating interesting consequences in warped brane particle phenomenology
An abundance of the Poisson-Lie symmetries of the WZNW models is uncovered. They give rise, via the Poisson-Lie $T$-duality, to a rich structure of the dual pairs of $D$-branes configurations in group manifolds. The $D$-branes are characterized by their shapes and certain two-forms living on them. The WZNW path integral for the interacting $D$-branes diagrams is unambiguously defined if the two-form on the $D$-brane and the WZNW three-form on the group form an integer-valued cocycle in the relative singular cohomology of the group manifold with respect to its $D$-brane submanifold. An example …
We review our recent work on the low-energy actions and the realizations of strong-weak coupling dualities in non-perturbative phases of compact antisymmetric tensor field theories due to p-brane condensation. As examples we derive and discuss the confining string and confining membrane actions obtained from compact vector and tensor theories in 4D. We also mention the relevance of our results for the description of the Hagedorn phase transition of finite temperature strings.
The existence of a new kind of branes for the open topological A-model is argued by using the generalized complex geometry of Hitchin and the SYZ picture of mirror symmetry. Mirror symmetry suggests to consider a bi-vector in the normal direction of the brane and a new definition of generalized complex submanifold. Using this definition, it is shown that there exists generalized complex submanifolds which are isotropic in a symplectic manifold. For certain target space manifolds this leads to isotropic A-branes, which should be considered in addition to Lagrangian and coisotropic A-branes. The…
We present an N = 2 world-sheet superspace description of D-branes on bihermitian or generalized Kaehler manifolds. To accomplish this, D-branes are considered as boundary conditions for a nonlinear sigma-model in what we call N = 2 boundary superspace. In this note the general formalism for such an approach is presented and the resulting classification sketched. This includes some remarks regarding target spaces whose parameterization includes semi-chiral superfields which have not appeared in the literature yet. In an accompanying note we turn to some examples and applications of the general…
