We analyse data on pi pi and gamma gamma scattering below 700 MeV within an improved analytic K-matrix model. This model is based on an effective theory with couplings between resonances, hadrons and photons. The two-photon decay of a resonance can proceed through intermediate transition into charged hadrons (here: pi^+ pi^-) and their subsequent annihilation or through a ``direct'' transition into photons. Our analysis confirms the rather large total radiative width of the sigma/f_0(600) resonance which we find as (3.9 \pm 0.6) keV but suggests its dominance by the pi pi rescattering process. This process is not sensitive to the internal structure of the resonance contrary to the direct component which we find small, (0.13 \pm 0.05) keV, and well consistent with the expectations for an unmixed glueball according to the QCD sum rule calculations.
We study the narrow decay width of low-lying penta-quark baryons in the QCD string theoryin terms of gluonic excitations. In the QCD string theory, the penta-quark baryon decays via a gluonic-excited state of a baryon and meson system, where a pair of Y-shaped junction and anti-junction is created. Since lattice QCD shows that the lowest gluonic-excitation energy takes a large value of about 1 GeV, the decay of the penta-quark baryon near the threshold is considered as a quantum tunneling process via a highly-excited state (a gluonic-excited state) in the QCD string theory. This mechanism stro…
The observed inclusive decay of B-mesons into eta' + X is interpreted as the consequence of the gluonic decay of the b-quark into an s-quark. As a result of the QCD anomaly this decay proceeds partly as the decay b ---> s + eta', similar to b ---> s + J/psi. The hadronic recoiling system is found to have a relatively large mass. Analogously one expects a decay of the type b ---> s + sigma. The branching ratios for these decays are large (of the order of 10%). The results indicate that there is no room for an anomalously large chromomagnetic decay mode of the b-quark. Gluon jets are expected to…
Using the QCD string theory, we investigate the physical reason of the narrow width of penta-quark baryons in terms of the large gluonic-excitation energy. In the QCD string theory, the penta-quark baryon decays via a gluonic-excited state of a baryon and meson system, where a pair of Y-shaped junction and anti-junction is created. On the other hand, we find in lattice QCD that the lowest gluonic-excitation energy takes a large value of about 1 GeV. Therefore, in the QCD string theory, the decay of the penta-quark baryon near the threshold is considered as a quantum tunneling process via a hig…
The paper is devoted to applying the confinement mechanism proposed earlier by one of the authors to estimate the possible parameters of the confining SU(3)-gluonic field in vector $ϕ$-meson. The estimates obtained are consistent with the leptonic widths of the given meson. The corresponding estimates of the gluon concentrations, electric and magnetic colour field strengths are also adduced for the mentioned field at the scales of the meson under consideration.
We investigate possible mass shift and width broadening of J/psi in hot gluonic matter using QCD sum rule. Input values of gluon condensates at finite temperature are extracted from lattice QCD data for the energy density and pressure. Although stability of the moment ratio is achieved only up to T/Tc ~ 1.05, the gluon condensates cause a decrease of the moment ratio, which results in change of spectral properties. Using the Breit-Wigner form for the phenomenological side, we find that mass shift of J/psi just above Tc can reach maximally 200 MeV and width can broaden to dozens of MeV.
The Pomeron, which dominates high energy elastic and diffractive hadronic processes, must be largely gluonic in nature. We use a recent picture of a scalar glueball/sigma system with coupling of the sigma to glue determined from experiment to predict strong peripheral sigma production seen in the p p $π^oπ^o$ final state.
The Pomeron, which dominates high energy elastic and diffractive hadronic processes, must be largely gluonic in nature. We use a recent picture of a scalar glueball/sigma system with coupling of the sigma to glue determined from experiment to predict strong peripheral sigma production in the pp$π^0π^0$ and double sigma production in the pp$π^0π^0π^0π^0$ channels.
The gluonic widths of four leading glueball candidates are determined from their production in radiative quarkonium decays, allowing quantitative estimation of their glue content. Lattice predictions for the scalar and tensor channels seem to be in reasonable agareement with present data (allowing for mixing with $q \bar{q}$ states). However there is a glueball-like-state in the pseudoscalar spectrum whose mass is considerably lower than expected from lattice estimates.
It has long been believed that the Pomeron, which has been successful in phenomenological fits to high energy scattering data, is associated with gluonic exchange. By determining the Regge-nucleon vertex in terms of previously determined glueball-quark coupling we show that the Pomeron might be related to the Regge trajectory defined by a light scalar glueball/sigma system and a tensor glueball, which involves complicated nonperturbative QCD. We predict a tensor glueball at 2.8 GeV.
We include instanton effects in QCD sum rules for coupled scalar glueballs and mesons. We find a light glueball/sigma as in earlier studies without instantons, but in a lattice-type pure instanton model the light glueball/sigma is not found. In the 1-2 Gev region we now find that lightest I=0 meson, in the region of the f$_o$(1370), has no direct glueball mixing, with the instanton loop replacing the glueball component. The lightest scalar mainly glueball in the region of the f$_o$(1500) is sensitive to the choice of nonperturbative gluonic parameters.
The central value and theoretical uncertainties on the cross section ratio sigma_W/sigma_Z at the Tevatron are evaluated using the NNLO calculations and the latest MSTW PDFs. The partial width, total width and branching ratios of the W boson in the Standard Model, in the light of the latest electroweak calculations, are also updated.
We study the transition widths of $Υ(10753)$ and $Υ(11020)$ into standard bottomonium under the hypothesis that they correspond to the two lowest laying $1^{--}$ hybrid bottomonium states. We employ weakly coupled potential NRQCD an effective filed theory incorporating the heavy quark and multipole expansions. We consider the transitions generated by the leading order and next-to-leading order singlet-octet operators. In the multipole expansion the heavy quark matrix elements factorize from the production of light-quark mesons by gluonic operators. For the leading order operator we compute the…
Two-body decay widths of lowest lying and next-to-lowest lying scalar and pseudoscalar mesons are studied in Generalized Linear Sigma Model (GLSM) of low-energy QCD. This model which considers mixing between "two quark" and "four quark" chiral nonets has been employed to investigate various decays and scatterings in low energy region of QCD. In this paper, $Γ[f_0(980) \rightarrow K \bar{K}]$ and $Γ[a_0(980) \rightarrow K \bar{K}]$ are obtained and it is shown that two-body decay widths of lowest lying mesons are well predicted by this model while for the next-to-lowest lying mesons, only some …
We calculate low-energy meson decay processes and pion-pion scattering lengths in a two-flavour linear sigma model with global chiral symmetry, exploring the scenario in which the scalar mesons $f_0$(600) and $a_0$(980) are assumed to be $\bar q q$ states.
There has long been speculation about the nature of the $σ$-resonance. For three decades Jaffe has argued for a tetraquark composition, while others have claimed it is largely a glueball. A key pointer to its nature is its coupling to two photons. Consequently, there have been recent proposals to observe this important scalar hiding in $γγ\toπ^0π^0$. We show here that the $σ$ is already crouching in this cross-section exactly as measured twenty years ago. What is new is that precise knowledge of the position of the $σ$-pole, provided by the analysis of the Roy equations, now allows its two pho…
We study the effect of thermal width of $π$ on the spectral function of $σ$ applying a resummation technique called optimized perturbation theory at finite temperature ($T$) to ${\cal O}(4)$ linear sigma model. In order to take into account finite thermal width of $π$, we replace the internal pion mass in the self-energy of $σ$ with that of complex pole found in a previous paper. The obtained spectral function for $T\aplg 100 {\rm MeV}$ turns out to possess two broad peaks. Although a sharp peak at $σ\toππ$ threshold was observed in the one-loop calculation without pion thermal width, the peak…
We propose a new method that fixes the coupling to two photons of the recently found lightest QCD resonance, the sigma. This coupling provides crucial information for discriminating the yet unknown nature of this special state. Our method uses available data on the nucleon polarizabilities together with analyticity and unitarity. Taking into account all the uncertainties, our result is Gamma_{pole}= 1.2 +- 0.4 keV.
The lightest QCD resonance, the sigma, has been recently fixed in the pi-pi scattering amplitude. The nature of this state remains nowadays one of the most intriguing and difficult issues in particle physics. Its coupling to photons is crucial to discriminate its structure. We propose a new method that fixes this coupling using only available precise experimental data on the proton electromagnetic polarizabilities together with analyticity and unitarity. Taking into account the uncertainties in the analysis and in the parameter values, our result is Gamma_{pole}(sigma -> gamma gamma) = (1.2 +-…
We shortly report on the two-photon decay width of the light $σ$-meson interpreted as a quarkonium state. Results are given in dependence on the $σ$-mass and the constituent mass of the light quark. The triangle quark-loop diagram, responsible for the two-photon transition, is carefully evaluated: a term in the transition amplitude, often omitted in literature, results in destructive interference with the leading term. As a result we show that the two-photon decay width of the $σ$ in the quarkonium picture is less than 1 keV for the physical range of parameters.
We look into the signatures of the effective Y-bosonic strings in the gluonic profile due to a system of three static quarks on the lattice. The gluonic distribution is calculated in pure Yang-Mills lattice gauge theory at finite temperature with Polyakov loops operators. The analysis of the action density unveils a filled-$Δ$ distribution. However, we found that these $Δ$-shaped action density profiles are structured from three Y-shaped Gaussian-like flux-tubes. The length of the revealed Y-flux system increases with the increasing of the color source separation and reaches maximum near the d…
We study the effect of the thermal width of $π$ on the spectral function of $σ$. In order to take into account a finite thermal width of $π$, we replace the internal pion mass in the self-energy of $σ$ with that of the complex pole found in a previous paper. The obtained spectral function for $T\aplg 100 {\rm MeV}$ turns out to possess two broad peaks. Although a sharp peak at $σ\toππ$ threshold was observed in the one-loop calculation without the pion thermal width, the peak is shown to be smeared out. We also search for the poles of the $σ$ propagator and analyze the behavior of the spectral…
We enforce chiral Ward identities on the vertices of the linear sigma model to take into account the width of the scalar sigma, considered as a true physical resonance. We consider pion scattering at very low energies and, from a fit to the measured phase shifts in the various angular momentum and isospin channels, conclude a mass for the sigma of 600+200-100 MeV. Its width turns out to be of the same size.
A QCD Laplace sum rule framework is employed to investigate the relationship between the mass and the decay width of the sigma, the lowest-lying isoscalar resonance in the spin-zero meson channel. Our analysis differs from prior analyses, not only by incorporating finite-width departures from the narrow resonance approximation, but also through the inclusion of direct-instanton contributions and three-loop-order perturbative effects. Assuming that the sigma is the dominant subcontinuum resonance in this channel, the least upper bound we obtain for the sigma-mass is shown to increase with the s…
Model independent amplitude analyses of $π^- p_\uparrow \to π^- π^+ n$ on polarized target at 17.2 GeV/c reveal resonant structure of S-wave transversity amplitudes $|\bar S|^2Σ$ and $|S|^2Σ$ near 750 MeV. Simultaneous fit to $|\bar S|^2Σ$ and $|S|^2Σ$ with a single $σ$ pole yields $m_σ= 775 \pm 17$ MeV and $Γ_σ= 147 \pm 33$ MeV. Simultaneous fit with two common $σ$ poles yields a lower $χ^2/dpt$. Their resonance parameters are $m_σ= 786 \pm 24$ MeV, $Γ_σ= 130 \pm 47$ MeV and $m_{σ^\prime} = 670 \pm 30$ MeV, $Γ_{σ^\prime} = 59 \pm 58$ MeV.
We calculate the physical mass and the width of the sigma meson by considering that it couples in vacuum to two virtual pions. The mass is calculated by using the spectral function, and we find that it is about 600MeV. In addition, we obtained the value of 250MeV for the width of its spectral function. The value obtained for the mass, is in an excellent agreement with that reported in the Particle data Book for the sigma meson, which is also named f0(600). This result also shows that the sigma meson can be considered as a two pion resonance.
QCD running coupling constant $α_s(m_c)$ and $α_s(m_b)$ are determined from heavy quarkonia $c\overline{c}$ and $b\overline{b}$ decays. The decay rates of $V\rightarrow 3g$ and $V\rightarrow e^+ e^-$ for $V=J/ψ$ and $Υ$ are estimated by taking into account both relativistic and QCD radiative corrections. The decay amplitudes are derived in the Bethe-Salpeter formalism, and the decay rates are estimated by using the meson wavefunctions which are obtained with a QCD-inspired inter-quark potential. For the $V\rightarrow 3g$ decay we find the relativistic correction to be very large and to severel…
I report on recent work done in collaboration with Irinel Caprini and Gilberto Colangelo. We observe that the Roy equations lead to a representation of the pion pion scattering amplitude that exclusively involves observable quantities, but is valid for complex values of s. At low energies, this representation is dominated by the contributions from the two subtraction constants, which are known to remarkable precision from the low energy theorems of chiral perturbation theory. Evaluating the remaining contributions on the basis of the available data, we demonstrate that the lowest resonance car…
We consider a globally invariant chiral Lagrangian that contains vector and axial-vector mesons. We compute the f0(600) decay width into two pions and pion-pion scattering lengths and compare with the corresponding results in which the (axial-)vector degrees of freedom decouple. We show that the role of vector mesons has a great impact on these quantities.
We discuss radiative corrections to W and quark propagators in the resonance region, |s-M^2| \lsim M*Gamma. We show that conventional mass renormalization, when applied to photonic or gluonic corrections, leads in next to leading order (NLO) to contributions proportional to [M*Gamma/(s-M^2)]^n, (n=1,2...), i.e. to a non-convergent series in the resonance region, a difficulty that affects all unstable particles coupled to massless quanta. A solution of this problem, based on the concepts of pole mass and width, is presented. It elucidates the issue of renormalization of amplitudes involving uns…
The light scalar meson sigma(600) is known to appear at low excitation energy with very large width on top of continuum states. We investigate it in the QCD sum rule as an example of resonance structures appearing above the corresponding thresholds. We use all the possible local tetraquark currents by taking linear combinations of five independent local ones. We ought to consider the pi-pi continuum contribution in the phenomenological side of the QCD sum rule in order to obtain a good sum rule signal. We study the stability of the extracted mass against the Borel mass and the threshold value …
We study behavior of J/psi in hot gluonic matter using QCD sum rules. Taking into account temperature dependences of the gluon condensates extracted from lattice thermodynamics for the pure SU(3) system, we find that the mass and width of J/psi exhibit rapid change across the critical temperature.
The latest measurements of the atomic level width in Sigma-hyperonic Pb atom offer the most accurate datum in the region of low-energy Sigma-hyperon physics. Atomic widths are due to the conversion of Sigma-nucleon into Lambda-nucleon. In high angular momentum states this conversion is dominated by the one-pion exchange. A joint analysis of the data of the scattering of negative-Sigma on proton converting into a Lambda and a neutron and of the atomic widths allows to extract a pseudovector pion-hyperon-Sigma coupling constant of 0.048 with a statistical error of +-0.005 and a systematic one of…
We study the phenomenology of the ground-state (pseudo-)scalar charmonia $η_c$ and $χ_{c0}$ in the framework of a $U(4)_r \times U(4)_l$ symmetric linear sigma model with (pseudo-)scalar and (axial-) vector mesons. Based on previous results for the spectrum of charmonia and the spectrum and (OZI-dominant) strong decays of open charmed mesons, we extend the study of this model to OZI-suppressed charmonia decays. This includes decays into 'ordinary' mesons but also particularly interesting channels with scalar-isoscalar resonances $f_0(1370),\, f_0(1500),\, f_0(1710)$ that may include sizeable c…
Chiral Ward identities lead to consistent accounting for the sigma's width in the linear sigma model's Feynman rules. Reanalysis of pion scattering data at threshold imply a mass for the sigma of 600+ 200 - 100 MeV.
Using a recent calculation of transition magnetic moments in the 1/N_c expansion and a calculation showing the suppression of E2/M1 by powers of N_c, we compute the widths for the radiative decays Sigma^* --> Sigma gamma, Sigma^* --> Lambda gamma, and Xi^* --> Xi gamma.
We reanalyse the gamma-gamma scattering data and conclude that in the mass region below 1 GeV the cross section for gamma-gamma to pi^0-pi^0 can be largely explained by the one pion exchange process with pi-pi rescattering. The radiative width of the sigma is estimated and a model dependent separation into contributions from direct gamma-gamma decay and decay through rescattering is obtained. We confront these findings with QCD spectral sum rule (QSSR) predictions and conclude that the sigma can have a large gluonium component in its wave function.
The gamma + D -> Lambda + Theta+ and gamma + D -> Sigma + Theta+ reactions can be used to determine the width of Theta+ almost model-independently. We calculate the differential cross sections of the gamma +D -> Lambda + Theta+, gamma + D -> Sigma + Theta+ and relevant background reactions in the photon energy range 1.2 < E_γ < 2.6 GeV. We determine the most favorable kinematic conditions and observables for the experimental studies of Theta+ in the considered processes. We argue that a comparison of the gamma + D -> Lambda + Theta+ and gamma + D -> Sigma + Theta+ cross sections should unambig…
It is shown that conventional mass renormalization, when applied to photonic or gluonic corrections to unstable particle propagators, leads to non-convergent series in the resonance region. A solution of this problem, based on the concepts of pole mass and width, is presented. In contrast with the Z case, the conventional on-shell definition of mass for W bosons and unstable quarks contains an unbounded gauge dependence in next-to-leading order. The on-shell and pole definitions of width are shown to coincide if terms of O(Γ^2) and higher are neglected, but not otherwise.
This report summarizes the most important results presented at the recent conference held at the Yukawa Institute of Theoretical Physics in Kyoto, devoted to the recently confirmed light sigma resonance. Remarkably, all speakers at this meeting took the light sigma for granted and many mass and width estimations near 500 MeV were presented. We emphasize that if the light and broad sigma is accepted as a true resonance it explains many basic problems of low energy hadronic physics in a simple way, especially if the linear sigma model is used as an approximate effective low energy theory.
We study the temperature evolution of the rho and sigma mass and width, using a unitary chiral approach. The one-loop pion-pion scattering amplitude in Chiral Perturbation Theory at finite temperature is unitarized via the Inverse Amplitude Method. Our results predict a clear increase with T of both the rho and sigma widths. The masses decrease slightly for high T, while the rho-pion-pion coupling increases. The rho behavior seems to be favored by experimental results. In the sigma case, it signals chiral symmetry restoration.
The measurements of reactions $π^- p_\uparrow \to π^- π^+ n$ at 17.2 GeV/c and $π^+ n_\uparrow \to π^+ π^- p$ at 5.98 and 11.85 GeV/c made at CERN with polarized targets provide a model-independent and solution-independent evidence for a narrow scalar state sigma(750). The original chi^2 minimization method and the recent Monte Carlo method for amplitude analysis of data at 17.2 GeV/c are in excellent agreement. Both methods find that the mass distribution of the measured amplitude $|\overline S |^2Σ$ with recoil transversity ``up'' resonates near 750 MeV while the amplitude $|S|^2Σ$ with reco…
We demonstrate that near the threshold, the pi pi scattering amplitude contains a pole with the quantum numbers of the vacuum - commonly referred to as the sigma - and determine its mass and width within small uncertainties. Our derivation does not involve models or parametrizations, but relies on a straightforward calculation based on the Roy equation for the isoscalar S-wave.
Recently we obtained the evidence for the existence of sigma(600) meson, which had been sought but missing for a long time, by reanalyzing the I=0 S-wave pi pi scattering phase shift. The sigma-existence was also suggested through the analyses of pi pi production processes, pp central collision pp to pp pi^0 pi^0 and J/psi to omega pi pi decay. The observed properties through these works of sigma meson satisfy the mass and width relation of SU(2) linear sigma model. The physical origin of the repulsive background phase shift delta_{BG}, which was essential to lead to the sigma-existence in our…
A variety of strong and electroweak interaction properties of the pion and the light scalar sigma meson are computed in a relativistic quark model. Under the assumption that the resulting coupling of these mesons to the constituent quarks is identical, the sigma meson mass is determined as M_sigma=385.4 MeV. We discuss in detail the gauging of the non-local meson-quark interaction and calculate the electromagnetic form factor of the pion and the form factors of the pi(0) -> gamma gamma and sigma -> gamma gamma processes. We obtain explicit expressions for the relevant form factors and evaluate…
The K^- p --> pi^0 pi^0 Sigma^0 reaction is studied within a chiral unitary model. The distribution of pi^0 Sigma^0 states forming the Lambda(1405) shows, in agreement with a recent experiment, a peak at 1420 MeV and a relatively narrow width of 38 MeV. This reaction gives maximal possible weight to the second Lambda(1405) state found in chiral unitary theories, which is narrow and of higher energy than the nominal Lambda(1405). In contrast, the pi^- p --> K^0 pi Sigma reaction gives more weight to the pole at lower energy and with a larger width. The data of these two experiments, together wi…
We review our work on the rho and sigma resonances derived from the Inverse Amplitude Method. In particular, we study the leading 1/N_c behavior of the resonances masses and widths and their evolution with changing m_pi. The 1/N_c expansion gives a clear definition of quark-antiquark states, which is neatly satisfied by the rho but not by the sigma, showing that its dominant component is not quark-antiquark. The m_pi dependence of the resonance properties is relevant to connect with lattice studies. We show that our predictions compare well with some lattice results and we find that the rho-pi…
We investigate the chiral phase transition of the strongly interacting matter at nonzero temperature and baryon chemical potential $μ_B$ within an extended (2+1) flavor Polyakov constituent quark-meson model which incorporates the effect of the vector and axial vector mesons. The parameters of the model are determined by comparing masses and tree-level decay widths with experimental values. We examine the restoration of the chiral symmetry by monitoring the temperature evolution of condensates. We study the $T-ρ_B$ phase diagram of the model and find that a critical end point exists, although …
Given a resonance of known mass, width, and J^{PC}, we can determine its gluonic branching fraction, b(R->gg), from data on its production in radiative vector quarkonium decay, V -> gamma+R. For most resonances b(R->gg) is found to be O(10%), consistent with being q-qbar states, but we find that both pseudoscalars observed in the 1440 MeV region have b(R->gg) ~ 1/2 - 1, and b(f_0^{++}->gg) ~ 1/2. As data improves, b(R->gg) should be a useful discriminator between q-qbar and gluonic states and may permit quantitative determination of the extent to which a particular resonance is a mixture of gl…
We calculate pion-pion scattering lengths and sigma, rho and a1 decay widths from a gauged linear sigma model with two flavours and its globally invariant generalisation.
We present an analysis on the exclusive rare radiative decay modes Sigma_b->Sigma gamma and Xi_b->Xi gamma. The transition form factors which parameterize these processes are calculated using QCD light-cone sum rules. The decay widths we predict are Gamma(Sigma_b->Sigma gamma)=(7.21\pm0.04)\times10^{-18}GeV} and Gamma(Xi_b->Xi gamma)=(1.34\pm0.07)\times10^{-16}GeV. The Branching ratio of Xi_b->Xi gamma is predicted to be Br(Ξ_b->Xi gamma)=(3.03\pm0.10)\times10^{-4}.
We present a two-flavour linear sigma model with global chiral symmetry and vector and axial-vector mesons. We calculate pion-pion scattering lengths and the decay widths of scalar, vector, and axial-vector mesons. It is demonstrated that vector and axial-vector meson degrees of freedom play an important role in these low-energy processes and that a reasonable theoretical description requires globally chirally invariant terms other than the vector meson mass term. An important question for meson vacuum phenomenology is the quark content of the physical scalar f0(600) and a0(980) mesons. We inv…
The lightest gluonic meson is expected with J^{PC}=0^{++}, calculations in full QCD point towards a mass of around 1 GeV. The interpretation of the scalar meson spectrum is hindered as some states are rather broad. In a largely model-independent analysis of pi+ pi- \to pi+ pi-, pi0 pi0 scattering in the region 600-1800 MeV a unique solution for the isoscalar S-wave is obtained. The resonances f_0(980), f_0(1500) and the broad f_0(600) or ``sigma'' are clearly identified whereas f_0(1370) is not seen at the level B(f_0(1370)\to pi pi)\gtrsim 10%. Arguments for the broad state to be a glueball a…
We study the $σ$ meson in QCD sum rules using a two quark interpolating field with derivatives. In the constituent quark model, the $σ$ meson is composed of a quark and an antiquark in the relative p-wave state and is thus expected to have a larger overlap with an interpolating field that measures the derivative of the relative quark wave-function. While the sum rule with a current without derivatives gives a pole mass of around 1 GeV, the present sum rule with a derivative current gives a mass of around 550 MeV and a width of 400 MeV, that could be identified with the $σ$ meson.
The decay rates of $c\bar{c}$ and $b\bar{b}$ through two-photon or two-gluon annihilations are obtained by using totally relativistic decay amplitudes and a sophisticated quantum-chromodynamic potential model for heavy quarkonia. Our results for the photonic and gluonic widths of the 1S0, 3P0, and the 3P2 states are in excellent agreement with the available experimental data. The procedures and mathematical techniques used by us for the treatment of the fermion-antifermion bound states are also applicable to other decay processes.
We propose a novel type of interpolating field operators, which manifests the hybrid-like configuration that the charm quark-antiquark pair recoils against gluonic degrees of freedom. A heavy vector charmonium-like state with a mass of $4.33(2)\,{\rm GeV}$ is disentangled from the conventional charmonium states in the quenched approximation. This state has affinity for the hybrid-like operators but couples less to the relevant quark bilinear operator. We also try to extract its leptonic decay constant and give a tentative upper limit that it is less than one tenth of that of $J/ψ$, which corre…
Pion pion scattering is studied in a generalized linear sigma model which contains two scalar nonets (one of quark-antiquark type and the other of diquark-antidiquark type) and two corresponding pseudoscalar nonets. An interesting feature concerns the mixing of the four isosinglet scalar mesons which yield poles in the scattering amplitude. Some realism is introduced by enforcing exact unitarity via the K-matrix method. It is shown that a reasonable agreement with experimental data is obtained up to about 1 GeV. The poles in the unitarized scattering amplitude are studied in some detail. The l…
We build the electromagnetic trace anomaly effective term for a generalized linear sigma model with two chiral nonets, one with a quark-antiquark structure, the other one with a four quark content. In the leading order of this framework, we study the decays into two photons of the lowest isosinglet scalar mesons. We find that the direct inclusion of underlying mixing among two- and four-quark components in the trace anomaly term is essential in order for the model prediction to agree with the available experimental data on decay width of $f_0(980)$ to two photons. Consequently, this sets a low…
We estimate the I=0 scalar meson sigma/f_0(600) parameters from pi-pi and gamma-gamma scattering data below 700 MeV using an improved analytic K-matrix model. A fit of the hadronic data gives a complex pole mass M_sigma= 422-i290 MeV, while simultaneous best fits of the gamma-gamma to pi+pi-, pi0pi0 data give a direct width of (0.13+-0.05)keV, a rescattering component of (2.7+-0.4)keV and a total (direct+rescattering) width of (3.9+-0.6)keV. "Running" these results to the physical real axis, the small "direct" gamma-gamma and the large hadronic widths at the "on-shell" mass are compatible with…
We present results from numerical studies of the finite temperature phase transition of the $(3+1)d$ O(N)-symmetric non-linear sigma model for $N=1,2$ and 3. We study the dependence of the width of the 3d critical region on $N$ and we show that the broken phase scaling region is much wider for N=2 and 3 than for N=1. We also compare the widths of the critical region in the low $T$ and high $T$ phases of the O(2) model and we show that the scaling region in the broken phase is much wider than in the symmetric phase. We also report results for the width of the scaling regions in the low $T$ phas…
We study gluonic excitations inside a $B_{c} $ meson in the constituent gluon model, treating a bottom-charm hybrid meson $ c \bar{b} g $ as a three-body system. We obtain the mass spectra for the hybrid mesons with magnetic gluon and electric gluon and see that their lowest states appear above the $ D B $ threshold. Also, we consider the decays of the low-lying states of the hybrid meson into $ DB , \; D^{*} B, DB^{*} $, $ D^{*}B^{*} $, $ D_{s} B_{s} $, and $D_{s} B_{s}^{*} $ mesons, developing an existing model for the strong decays. We estimate their partial decay widths and find that the w…
