We construct the effective chiral Lagrangian involving the
D--mesons and Goldstone bosons at next-to-leading order taking into account strong as well as electromagnetic interactions. This allows us to disentangle -- to leading order in isospin violation -- the electromagnetic and the strong contribution to the D--meson mass differences. In addition, we also apply the interaction to the decay D_{s0}^*(2317)-> D_s pi0 under the assumption that the D_{s0}^*(2317) is a hadronic molecule. We find (180+-110) keV for the decay width $Γ(D_{s0}^*(2317)-> D_s pi0) -- consistent with currently existing experimental constraints as well as previous theoretical investigations. The result provides further evidence that this decay width can serve as a criterion for testing the nature of the D_{s0}^*(2317).
We study the O(Lambda/mb) corrections to the singly and doubly differential hadronic invariant mass spectra dΓ/dsH and dΓ/dsH dq^2 in b -> u decays, and discuss the implications for the extraction of the CKM matrix element |Vub|. Using simple models for the subleading shape functions, the effects of subleading operators are estimated to be at thefew percent level for experimentally relevant cuts. The subleading corrections proportional to the leading shape function are larger, but largely cancel in the relation between the hadronic invariant mass spectrum and the photon spectrum in B -> X_s γ.…
The contribution of subleading reggeons to the diffractive structure function ${dF_{2}^D / dx_{\funp} dt}$ is estimated from the soft physics data. This contribution leads in a natural way to the violation of the factorization property of the diffractive structure function.
The proton's transverse polarization structure is examined in terms of the Lorentz-covariant Pauli-Lubanski vector in QCD. We find that there are contributions from leading, subleading, and next-to-subleading partonic contributions in the light-front system of coordinates. The subleading and next-to-subleading contributions are related to the leading one through Lorentz symmetry. And the leading contribution obeys a simple partonic angular momentum sum rule that gives a clear physical interpretation to a relation known previously.
We consider the subleading contributions of the hadronic vacuum polarization, involving the $π^0γ^*γ^*$ transition form factor, to the muon anomalous magnetic moment $g-2$. Various models for the form factor, based on hadronic ansatzes and holographic principles, are considered: They are the Wess-Zumino-Witten, vector meson dominance, lowest meson dominance (one and two vector resonances) models, and AdS/QCD. The model parameters are determined by fitting the experimental data for the $e^+ e^- \rightarrow π^0 γ$ total cross section. We report numerical results of the corrections to the muon $g…
We derive the short-range contributions and the leading relativistic corrections to the three-nucleon force at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order in the chiral expansion.
I discuss the two-particle subleading power corrections in radiative leptonic $B \to γ\ell ν$ decay at next-to-leading order in $α_s$ with the dispersion approach. Employing the method of regions, factorization of the $B \to γ^{\ast}$ form factors is demonstrated explicitly, at one loop, for a space-like hard-collinear photon. The two-particle soft (end-point) contribution is shown to be suppressed by one power of $Λ/m_b$, in the heavy quark limit, compared with the leading power contribution computed from QCD factorization. I further report the recent calculation on the three-particle sublead…
The leptonic radiative decay $B \to γlν$ is of great importance in the determination of $B$ meson wave functions, and evaluating the form factors $ F_{V,A}$ are the essential problem on the study of this channel. We computed next-to-leading power corrections to the form factors within the framework of PQCD approach, including the power suppressed hard kernel, the contribution from a complete set of three-particle $B$ meson wave functions up to twist-4 and two-particle off light-cone wave functions, the $1/m_b$ corrections in heavy quark effective theory, and the contribution from hadronic stru…
The charged lepton spectrum in semileptonic $B\to X_u \ell\barν$ decay near maximal lepton energy receives important corrections from subleading structure functions that are formally suppressed by powers of $Λ_{QCD}/m_b$ but are enhanced by numerical factors. We investigate the series of higher order terms which smear over a region of width $ΔE_\ell \sim Λ_{QCD}$ near the endpoint the contributions proportional to $δ(E_\ell - m_b/2)$ times (i) the matrix element of the chromomagnetic operator, and (ii) four-quark operators. These contribute to the total rate at the few percent level, but affec…
Recently the LHCb collaboration has announced the discovery of the $T_{cc}^+$ tetraquark. Being merely a few hundred ${\rm keV}$ below the $D^{*+} D^0$ threshold, the $T_{cc}^+$ is expected to have a molecular component, for which there is a good separation of scales that can be exploited to make reasonably accurate theoretical predictions about this tetraquark. Independently of its nature, the most important decay channels will be $D^+ D^0 π^0$, $D^0 D^0 π^+$ and $D^+ D^0 γ$. Its closeness to threshold suggests that the mass and particularly the width of the $T_{cc}^+$ tetraquark depend on th…
We extend our recent analyses of the nuclear vector, axial-vector and pseudoscalar currents and derive the leading one-loop corrections to the two-nucleon scalar current operator in the framework of chiral effective field theory using the method of unitary transformation. We also show that the scalar current operators at zero momentum transfer are directly related to the quark mass dependence of the nuclear forces.
We discuss new subleading processes for inclusive production of $W^+ W^-$ pairs. We focus mainly on photon-photon induced processes. We include elastic-elastic, elastic-inelastic, inelastic-elastic and inelastic-inelastic contributions. The inelastic photon distributions in the proton are calculated in two different ways: naive approach used already in the literature and using photon distributions by solving special evolution equations with the photon being a parton in the proton. The results strongly depend on the approach used. The resolved photon contribution was calculated in addition and …
The contribution of subleading jet functions to inclusive decay distributions of $B$ mesons are derived from a systematic two-step matching of QCD current correlators onto soft collinear and heavy quark effective theory. Focusing on the tree level matching of QCD onto soft collinear effective theory, the subleading jet functions are defined to all orders in $α_s(μ_i)$ (with $μ_i^2\sim m_bΛ_{\rm QCD}$) and are calculated explicitly at first order in $α_s(μ_i)$. We present explicit expressions for the decay rates of $B\to X_u l \barν$ and the $Q_{7γ}-Q_{7γ}$ contribution to $B\to X_s γ$, where t…
We calculate the subleading twist contributions to the endpoint of the inclusive lepton energy spectrum in B -> X_u l ν. We show that the same two subleading twist functions that appear in the decay B -> X_s γgovern the subleading effects in this decay. Using these results we find large O(Lambda/mB) corrections to the determination of |Vub| from the endpoint of the charged lepton spectrum. Using a simple model for the relevant subleading shape functions, we estimate the uncertainty in |Vub| from Lambda/mb corrections to be at the ~ 15% level for a lower lepton energy cut of 2.2 GeV.
Recently a concise expression for the subleading infrared singularity of dimensional-regularized gauge theories has been proposed. For conformal theories, such relation involves a universal eikonal contribution plus a non-eikonal contribution, related to the subleading term in the anomalous dimension of twist two operators with large spin. In this note we make use of the AdS/CFT correspondence in order to check such conjecture at strong coupling for the case of N=4 SYM.
We derive a compact all-loop-order expression for the IR-divergent part of the N=4 SYM four-gluon amplitude, which includes both planar and all subleading-color contributions, based on the assumption that the higher-loop soft anomalous dimension matrices are proportional to the one-loop soft anomalous dimension matrix, as has been recently conjectured. We also consider the Regge limit of the four-gluon amplitude, and we present evidence that the leading logarithmic growth of the subleading-color amplitudes is less severe than that of the planar amplitudes. We examine possible 1/N^2 corrections…
We study the anomalous dimensions and coefficient functions generated by the BFKL equation in 4+2 epsilon dimensions, by investigating both running coupling effects, and the inclusion of the full next-to-leading kernel. After generalising the Fourier representation of the solutions to this case, we analyse the beta-dependent renormalisation-group factorisation of anomalous dimension and coefficient contributions to the gluon density. We derive on this basis the normalisation factor of the Q0-scheme with respect to the MSbar-scheme, including beta-dependent corrections to it, and we outline the…
We calculate the contributions arising at order $α_s$ in the QCD sum rule for the spin-symmetry violating universal function $χ_3(v\cdot v')$, which appears at order $1/m_Q$ in the heavy quark expansion of meson form factors. In particular, we derive the two-loop perturbative contribution to the sum rule. Over the kinematic range accessible in $B\to D^{(*)}\ell\,ν$ decays, we find that $χ_3(v\cdot v')$ does not exceed the level of $\sim 1\%$, indicating that power corrections induced by the chromo-magnetic operator in the heavy quark expansion are small.
We construct the higher twist structure functions that describe inclusive b hadron decays in regions of phase space where the hadronic decay products carry high energy but have low invariant mass. We show that, for B meson decays, there are four new non-vanishing matrix elements of non-local operators. We show that to subleading twist these decays are parametrized in terms of four functions. We compute the tree-level matching for a general heavy-to-light current and apply it to B -> X_s gamma. Using a simple model for these functions we estimate the subleading twist contributions to this decay…
The hard-scattering contributions to heavy-to-light form factors at large recoil are studied systematically in soft-collinear effective theory (SCET). Large logarithms arising from multiple energy scales are resummed by matching QCD onto SCET in two stages via an intermediate effective theory. Anomalous dimensions in the intermediate theory are computed, and their form is shown to be constrained by conformal symmetry. Renormalization-group evolution equations are solved to give a complete leading-order analysis of the hard-scattering contributions, in which all single and double logarithms are…
We analyze the factorization to subleading power in the flavor changing neutral current process $\bar B\to X_s \ell^+ \ell^-$. In particular, we compute the so-called resolved contributions and explore the numerical impact on observables. In these contributions the virtual photon couples to light partons instead of connecting directly to the effective weak-interaction vertex. They represent an irreducible uncertainty in the inclusive $\bar B \to X_s \ell^+ \ell^-$ decay which cannot be removed by relaxing the experimentally necessary cuts in the hadronic mass spectrum.
We calculate the QCD corrected effective Hamiltonian for $B\bbar$--Mixing in heavy quark effective theory including corrections of the order $Λ_{QCD} / m_b$. The matrix elements of the subleading operators are estimated using the vacuum insertion assumption. We show that the major part of the subleading corrections may be absorbed into the heavy meson decay constant $f_B$; the remaining corrections are only due to QCD effects and give an enhancement of $ΔM$ of 5\%.
The contributions of subleading shape functions to inclusive decay distributions of B mesons are derived from a systematic two-step matching of QCD current correlators onto soft-collinear and heavy-quark effective theory. At tree-level, the results can be expressed in terms of forward matrix elements of bi-local light-cone operators. Four-quark operators, which arise at O(g^2), are included. Their effects can be absorbed entirely into a redefinition of other shape functions. Our results are in disagreement with some previous studies of subleading shape-function effects in the literature. A num…
We compute the photon asymmetry $B_γ$ for near threshold parity violating (PV) pion photoproduction through sub-leading order. We show that sub-leading contributions involve a new combination of PV couplings not included in previous analyses of hadronic PV. We argue that existing constraints on the leading order contribution to $B_γ$ -- obtained from the PV $γ$-decay of $^{18}$F -- suggest that the impact of the subleading contributions may be more significant than expected from naturalness argumen
We calculate the complete-NLO predictions for $t\bar{t}W^{\pm}$ and $t\bar{t}t\bar{t}$ production in proton--proton collisions at 13 and 100 TeV. All the non-vanishing contributions of $\mathcal{O}(α_s^i α^j)$ with $i+j=3,4$ for $t\bar{t}W^{\pm}$ and $i+j=4,5$ for $t\bar{t}t\bar{t}$ are evaluated without any approximation. For $t\bar{t}W^{\pm}$ we find that, due to the presence of $tW \to tW$ scattering, at 13(100) TeV the $\mathcal{O}(α_s α^3)$ contribution is about 12(70)\% of the LO, i.e., it is larger than the so-called NLO EW corrections (the $\mathcal{O}(α_s^2 α^2)$ terms) and has opposi…
We discuss many new subleading processes for inclusive production of $W^+ W^-$ pairs not included in the literature so far. We focus on photon-photon induced processes. We include elastic-elastic, elastic-inelastic, inelastic-elastic and inelastic-inelastic contributions. The inelastic photon distributions in the proton are calculated in two different ways: naive approach used already in the literature and using photon distributions by solving special evolution equation with photon being a parton in the proton. The results strongly depend on the approach used. We calculate also contributions w…
We study the subleading corrections originating from the 3-parton (q\bar q g) Fock states of final-state mesons in B decays. The corrections could give significant contributions to decays involving an ωor η^{(\prime)} in the final states. Our results indicate the similarity of ωK and ωπ^- rates, of order 5\times 10^{-6}, consistent with the recent measurements. We obtain a_2(B\to J/ψK)\approx 0.27+0.05i, in good agreement with data. Without resorting to the unknown singlet annihilation effects, 3-parton Fock state contributions can enhance the branching ratios of Kη' to the level above 50\time…
We derive and solve the renormalisation-group (RG) equation of the shape function $g_{17}(ω,ω_1;μ)$, which appears at subleading power in the factorization of the inclusive decays $\bar{B} \to X_s γ$ and $\bar B \to X_s \ell^+\ell^-$. Our results provide the first ingredient for a next-to-leading order analysis of the respective resolved-photon ${Q}^{c}_{1} - {Q}_{7γ}$ interference contribution, whose current uncertainties are among the largest ones in both inclusive penguin modes. As a by-product of our study, we find that the analytic properties of the soft anomalous dimension as well as the…
Parton shower Monte Carlo event generators in which the shower evolves from hard splittings to soft splittings generally use the leading color approximation, which is the leading term in an expansion in powers of $1/N_c^2$, where $N_c = 3$ is the number of colors. We introduce a more general approximation, the LC+ approximation, that includes some of the color suppressed contributions. There is a cost: each generated event comes with a weight. There is a benefit: at each splitting the leading soft$\times$collinear singularity and the leading collinear singularity are treated exactly with respe…
We reconsider the QCD predictions for the radiative decay $B\to γ\ell ν_\ell$ with an energetic photon in the final state by taking into account the $1/E_γ, 1/m_b$ power-suppressed hard-collinear and soft corrections from higher-twist $B$-meson light-cone distribution amplitudes (LCDAs). The soft contribution is estimated through a dispersion relation and light-cone QCD sum rules. The analysis of theoretical uncertainties and the dependence of the decay form factors on the leading-twist LCDA $ϕ_+(ω)$ shows that the latter dominates. The radiative leptonic decay is therefore well suited to cons…
Large logarithmic corrections in $\hat s/p_t^2$ lead to substantial variations in the perturbative predictions for inclusive $W$-plus-dijet processes at the Large Hadron Collider. This instability can be cured by summing the leading-logarithmic contributions in $\hat s/p_t^2$ to all orders in $α_s$. As expected though, leading logarithmic accuracy is insufficient to guarantee a suitable description in regions of phase space away from the high energy limit. We present (i) the first calculation of all partonic channels contributing at next-to-leading logarithmic order in $W$-boson production in …
Calculations for processes involving a high multiplicity of coloured particles often employ a leading colour approximation, where only the leading terms in the expansion of the number of colours $N_c$ and the number of flavours $n_f$ are retained. This approximation of the full colour result is motivated by the $1/N_c^2$ suppression of the first subleading terms and by the increasing complexity of including subleading colour contributions to the calculation. In this work, we present the calculations using the antenna subtraction method in the NNLOJET framework for the NNLO QCD corrections at f…
Using methods from soft-collinear and heavy-quark effective theory, a systematic factorization analysis is performed for the $\bar B\to X_sγ$ photon spectrum in the endpoint region $m_b-2E_γ={\cal O}(Λ_{\rm QCD})$. It is proposed that, to all orders in $1/m_b$, the spectrum obeys a novel factorization formula, which besides terms with the structure $H\,J\otimes S$ familiar from inclusive $\bar B\to X_u l\,\barν$ decay distributions contains "resolved photon" contributions of the form $H\,J\otimes S\otimes\bar J$ and $H\,J\otimes S\otimes\bar J\otimes\bar J$. Here $S$ and $\bar J$ are new soft …
We calculate the next-to-leading order electroweak corrections to the production of a photon pair in association with zero, one and two jets at the LHC. We use GoSam and Sherpa to obtain the results in a fully automated way. For a typical set of fiducial cuts the electroweak corrections lead to a modification of the total cross section of up to 3 per cent, depending on the jet multiplicity. We find substantial contributions in differential distributions, leading to tens of per cent corrections for phase space regions within the reach of the LHC. Furthermore we investigate the importance of pho…
We considered the power corrections to the amplitude describing hard exclusive pion pair production in gamma gamma collisions at large energy and momentum transfer. In order to derive a factorization formula for the subleading power corrections one has to take into account the so-called soft-overlap (or soft) contributions. These terms can be naturally introduced within the SCET framework as a matrix elements of the SCET-I operators. The so-called end-point singularities must cancel in the sum of the hard and soft contributions after matching onto SCET-II. Using the so-called physical subtract…
Standard dipole parton showers are known to yield incorrect subleading-colour contributions to the leading (double) logarithmic terms for a variety of observables. In this work, concentrating on final-state showers, we present two simple, computationally efficient prescriptions to correct this problem, exploiting a Lund-diagram type classification of emission regions. We study the resulting effective multiple-emission matrix elements generated by the shower, and discuss their impact on subleading colour contributions to leading and next-to-leading logarithms (NLL) for a range of observables. I…
We present an improved calculation of the strong coupling constants $g_{D^*Dρ}$ and $g_{B^*Bρ}$ in light-cone sum rules including the one-loop QCD corrections of leading power with $ρ$ meson distribution amplitudes. We further compute the subleading-power corrections from two-particle and three-particle higher-twist contributions at leading order up to twist-4 accuracy. The next-to leading order corrections to leading power contribution offset the subleading-power corrections to some extend numerically, and our numerical results are consistent with previous works from sum rules. The comparison…
In future collider experiments at the TeV scale, large logarithmic corrections originating from massive boson exchange can lead to significant corrections to observable cross sections. Recently double logarithms of the Sudakov-type were resummed for spontaneously broken gauge theories and found to exponentiate. In this paper we use the virtual contributions to the Altarelli-Parisi splitting functions to obtain the next to leading order kernel of the infrared evolution equation in the fixed angle scattering regime at high energies where particle masses can be neglected. In this regime the virtu…
The clockwork mechanism for gravity introduces a tower of massive graviton modes, "clockwork gravitons," with a very compressed mass spectrum, whose interaction strengths are much stronger than that of massless gravitons. In this work, we compute the lowest order contributions of the clockwork gravitons to the anomalous magnetic moment, $g-2$, of muon in the context of extra dimensional model with a five dimensional Planck mass, $M_5$. We find that the total contributions are rather insensitive to the detailed model parameters, and determined mostly by the value of $M_5$. In order to account f…
We reconsider QCD factorization for the leading power contribution to the $γ^{\ast} γ\to π^0$ form factor $F_{γ^{\ast} γ\to π^0} (Q^2)$ at one loop using the evanescent operator approach, and demonstrate the equivalence of the resulting factorization formulae derived with distinct prescriptions of $γ_5$ in dimensional regularization. Applying the light-cone QCD sum rules (LCSRs) with photon distribution amplitudes (DAs) we further compute the subleading power contribution to the pion-photon form factor induced by the "hadronic" component of the real photon at the next-to-leading-order in ${\ca…
We study soft theorems at one loop in planar N=4 super Yang-Mills theory through finite order in the infrared regulator and to subleading order in the soft parameter δ. In particular, we derive a universal constraint from dual superconformal symmetry, which we use to bootstrap subleading log δ behaviour. Moreover, we determine the complete infrared-finite subleading soft contribution of n-point MHV amplitudes using momentum twistors. Finally, we compute the subleading log δ behaviour of one-loop NMHV ratio functions at six and seven points, finding that universality holds within but not betwee…
Applying the method of light-cone sum rules with photon distribution amplitudes, we compute the subleading-power correction to the radiative leptonic $B \to γ\ell ν$ decay, at next-to-leading order in QCD for the twist-two contribution and at leading order in $α_s$ for the higher-twist contributions, induced by the hadronic component of the collinear photon. The leading-twist hadronic photon effect turns out to preserve the symmetry relation between the two $B \to γ$ form factors due to the helicity conservation, however, the higher-twist hadronic photon corrections can yield symmetry-breaking…
Building on the recent derivation of a bare factorization theorem for the $b$-quark induced contribution to the $h\toγγ$ decay amplitude based on soft-collinear effective theory, we derive the first renormalized factorization theorem for a process described at subleading power in scale ratios, where $λ=m_b/M_h\ll 1$ in our case. We prove two refactorization conditions for a matching coefficient and an operator matrix element in the endpoint region, where they exhibit singularities giving rise to divergent convolution integrals. The refactorization conditions ensure that the dependence of the d…
The problem of restoring Froissart bound to the BFKL-Pomeron is studied in an extended leading-log approximation of QCD. We consider parton-parton scattering amplitude and show that the sum of all Feynman-diagram contributions can be written in an eikonal form. In this form dynamics is determined by the phase shift, and subleading-logs of all orders needed to restore the Froissart bound are automatically provided. The main technical difficulty is to find a way to extract these subleading contributions without having to compute each Feynman diagram beyond the leading order. We solve that proble…
Factorization theorems underly our ability to make predictions for many processes involving the strong interaction. Although typically formulated at leading power, the study of factorization at subleading power is of interest both for improving the precision of calculations, as well as for understanding the all orders structure of QCD. We use the SCET helicity operator formalism to construct a complete power suppressed basis of hard scattering operators for $e^+e^-\to$ dijets, $e^- p\to e^-$ jet, and constrained Drell-Yan, including the first two subleading orders in the amplitude level power …
The Goldberger-Treiman discrepancy in SU(3) is analyzed in the framework of heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory (HBChPT). It is shown that the discrepancy at leading order is entirely given by counterterms from the order p^3 Lagrangian, and that the first subleading corrections are suppressed by two powers in the HBChPT expansion. These subleading corrections include meson-loop contributions as well as counterterms from the order p^5 Lagrangian. Some one-loop contributions are calculated and found to be small. Using the three discrepancies (pi-N-N, K-N-Lambda and K-N-Sigma) which can be ex…
We present strong indirect evidence for the contribution of bosonic electroweak corrections in the Standard Model. Although important conceptually, these corrections give subleading contributions in current high energy experiments, and it was previously thought that they are difficult to detect. We also discuss the separate contribution of the Higgs boson.
Nonfactorizable contributions to exclusive two-body nonleptonic weak decays of heavy mesons arising from color octet currents, characterized by the parameter $r_2$, are extracted from the data. It is found that $r_2$ is equal to $\sim -0.67\,$, $-(0.9\sim 1.1),~-(1.2\sim 1.3)$, $\sim 0.36$ respectively for $D\to \bar{K}π,~\bar{K}^*π,~\bar{K}^*ρ,~\bar{B}\to Dπ$ decays. As expected, soft-gluon effects become stronger when the decay particles are less energetic, allowing more time for significant final-state strong interactions. As a consequence, the parameter $a_2$ is not universal and is channe…
We derive the sub-subleading two-pion exchange contributions to the three-nucleon force which appear at next-to-next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order in chiral effective field theory. In order to determine the low-energy constants, a complete analysis of pion-nucleon scattering at the subleading-loop order in the heavy-baryon expansion is carried out utilizing the power counting scheme employed in the derivation of the nuclear forces. We discuss the convergence of the chiral expansion for this particular three-nucleon force topology and give the values of the low-energy constants which provide…
Applying the AdS/CFT correspondence, the expansion of the heavy-quark potential of the ${\cal N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory at large $N_c$ is carried out to the sub-leading term in the large 't Hooft coupling at zero temperature. The strong coupling corresponds to the semi-classical expansion of the string-sigma model, the gravity dual of the Wilson loop operator, with the sub-leading term expressed in terms of functional determinants of fluctuations. The singularities of these determinants are examined and their contributions are evaluated numerically.
The decay $B\to f_0(980)K is studied within the framework of QCD factorization and the two-quark scenario for $f_0(980)$. There are two distinct penguin contributions and their interference depends on the unknown mixing angle $θ$ of strange and nonstrange quark contents of $f_0(980)$: destructive for $0<θ<π/2$ and constructive for $π/2<θ<π$. The QCD sum rule method is applied to evaluate the leading-twist light-cone distribution amplitudes and the scalar decay constant of $f_0$. We conclude that the short-distance approach is not adequate to explain the observed large rates of $f_0K^-$ and $f_…
