Canonical quantization of a gauge theory in the spatial axial gauge produces an anisotropic Hamiltonian and matter particles surrounded by physically unrealistic asymmetric electric or chromoelectric fields. We show how to restore rotational symmetry for a nonabelian theory with a gauge fixing condition $A^a_3=0$. We also discuss similarities between recovering isotropy in the spatial axial gauge and finding gauge invariant quantities in the Weyl gauge in both abelian and nonabelian field theories.
We present an ansatz which makes the equations of motion more tractable for the simplest of Vasiliev's four-dimensional higher spin theories. The ansatz is similar to axial gauge in electromagnetism. We present a broad class of solutions in the gauge where the spatial connection vanishes, and we discuss the lift of one of these solutions to a full spacetime solution via a gauge transformation.
Imposing the conservation equation of the vector current for a fermion of spin $\frac{1}{2}$ at the quantum level, a gauge anomaly for the fermion coupling with non-Abelian vector and axial--vector fields in six--dimensional curved space is expressed in tensorial form. The anomaly consists of terms that resemble the chiral U(1) anomaly and the commutator terms that disappear if the axial--vector field is Abelian.
The axial-vector form factor of the nucleons is considered in the framework of hard-wall model of holographic QCD. A new interaction term between the bulk gauge and matter fields was included into the interaction Lagrangian. We obtain the axial-vector form factor of nucleons in the boundary QCD from the bulk action using AdS/CFT correspondence. The momentum square dependence of the axial-vector form factor is analysed numerically.
We provide the renormalization constants of the axial current operators, both singlet and non-singlet, in dimensional regularization up to four-loop order in QCD, determined using the off-shell Ward-Takahashi identity for an axial current with a non-anticommuting $γ_5$. A possible application of the result for the singlet axial current operator is the extraction of the non-decoupling mass logarithms in the axial quark form factors.
Discontinuity of gauge theory in the gauge condition $n\cdot\partial n\cdot A=0$, which emerges at $n\cdot k=0$, is studied here. Such discontinuity is different from that one confronts in axial gauge and can not be regularized by conventional analytical continuation method. The Faddeev-Popov determinate of the gauge $n\cdot\partial n\cdot A=0$, which is solved explicitly in the manuscript, behaves like a $δ$-functional of gauge potentials once singularities in the functional integral is neglected and the length along $n^μ$ direction of the space tends to infinity. As a sequence, perturbation …
In an earlier paper it has been shown that the ultra violet divergence structure of anomalous U(1) axial vector gauge model in the stochastic quantization scheme is different from that in the conventional quantum field theory. Also it has been shown that the model is expected to be renormalizable. Based on the operator formalism of the stochastic quantization, a new approach to anomalous U(1) axial vector gauge model is proposed. The operator formalism provides a convenient framework for analysis of ultra violet divergences, but the computations in a realistic model become complicated. In this…
We study the chiral effective theory in the presence of QCD vortices. Gauge invariance requires novel terms from vortex singularities in the gauged Wess-Zumino-Witten action, which incorporate anomaly induced currents along the vortices. We examine these terms for systems with QCD axial domain-walls bounded by vortices (vortons) under magnetic fields. We discuss how the baryon and the electric charge conservations are satisfied in these systems through interplay between domain-walls and vortices, which manifests Callan-Harvey's mechanism of the anomaly inflow.
We provide the $\bar{\mathrm{MS}}$ factor of the renormalization constant of the singlet axial-current operator in dimensional regularization at $\mathcal{O}(α_s^5)$ in perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). The result is obtained from a formula derived using the Adler-Bell-Jackiw equation in terms of renormalized operators. The required input consists of the complete four-loop results for operator renormalization constants obtained by explicit diagrammatic computation in a previous publication.
The dynamics of topological domains which break parity (${\cal P}$) and charge-parity (${\cal CP}$) symmetry of QCD are studied. We derive in a general setting that those local domains will generate an axial current and quantify the strength of the induced axial current. Our findings are verified in a top-down holographic model. The relation between the real time dynamics of those local domains and chiral magnetic effect is also elucidated. We finally argue that such an induced axial current would be phenomenologically important if topological domains are created in heavy-ion collisions experi…
A previous formal derivation of the effective chiral Lagrangian for low-lying pseudoscalar mesons from first-principles QCD without approximations [Wang et al., Phys. Rev. D61, (2000) 54011] is generalized to further include scalar, vector, and axial-vector mesons. In the large Nc limit and with an Abelian approximation, we show that the properties of the newly added mesons in our formalism are determined by the corresponding underlying fundamental homogeneous Bethe--Salpeter equation in the ladder approximation, which yields the equations of motion for the scalar, vector, and axial-vector mes…
The Axial Magnetic Effect is the generation of an equilibrium dissipationless energy flow of chiral fermions in the direction of the axial (chiral) magnetic field. At finite temperature the dissipationless energy transfer may be realized in the absence of any chemical potentials. We numerically study the temperature behavior of the Axial Magnetic Effect in quenched SU(2) lattice gauge theory. We show that in the confinement (hadron) phase the effect is absent. In the deconfinement transition region the conductivity quickly increases, reaching the asymptotic $T^2$ behavior in a deep deconfineme…
Augmentations to the Euler-Heisenberg Lagrangian (QED one-loop effective action in homogeneous electromagnetic fields) under a constant background axial gauge are examined. Two special configurations admit an exact eigendecomposition, and hence effective action as a spectral sum, of the augmented Dirac operator: one with a magnetic field with chiral chemical potential, and the other with an electric field with spatial axial gauge, which resembles an emergent vorticity. An enhancement to Schwinger pair production is found for the latter, which is more fully analyzed using the worldline instanto…
We study the two-color QCD matter within two fundamental quark flavors via both chiral perturbation theory and Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model methods. The effective Lagrangian described by low lying meson and baryon, i.e., diquark, is derived, where the excitations locate in the extended $\mathrm{SU}(4)$ flavor symmetry space. We determine the leading order terms on the dependence of the baryon and axial isospin densities. Then, the two-color NJL model is employed to run the numerical simulation and the phase diagram in the plane of $μ-ν_{5}$ is plotted.
Whereas the theoretical results for the dominant contributions to hadronic light-by-light scattering coming from pseudoscalar meson exchange have converged over the past years, the various published estimates of the contribution due to axial vector meson exchange differ wildly. Since holographic AdS/QCD models have proved to provide rather good models of singly and doubly virtual pion transition form factors, which reproduce remarkably well the known low-energy data and also the asymptotic leading-order pQCD behavior, it is of interest to consider their predictions for axial vector transition …
The chiral susceptibility, or the first derivative of the chiral condensate with respect to the quark mass, is often used as a probe for the QCD phase transition since the chiral condensate is an order parameter of $SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R$ symmetry breaking. However, the chiral condensate also breaks the axial $U(1)$ symmetry, which is usually not paid attention to as it is already broken by anomaly and apparently gives little impact on the transition. We investigate the susceptibilities in the scalar and pseudoscalar channels in order to quantify how much the axial $U(1)$ breaking contributes…
The aim of this work is to study some possible local and global $U(1)$ axial condensates in the high-temperature chirally restored phase of QCD, by means of two nonperturbative analytical techniques: (i) by expressing the functional averages in terms of the spectral density of the Euclidean Dirac operator and (ii) by evaluating the functional integrals in the instanton-background approximation. In this way, besides proving that these condensates are indeed different from zero in the high-temperature regime, we shall also derive their asymptotic temperature dependence and compare it with that o…
We investigate an impact of the axial-vector interaction on spatial modulation of quark matter. A magnetic field coupled with baryon density leads to a topological axial current, so that the effect of the axial-vector interaction is crucially enhanced then. Using the Sakai-Sugimoto model we have found that, contrary to a naive expectation, the spatially modulated phase is less favored for a stronger magnetic field, which is realized by the presence of topological current.
We derive some exact results concerning the anomalous U(1)$_A$ symmetry in the chirally symmetric phase of QCD at high temperature. We discuss the importance of topology and finite-volume effects on the U(1)$_A$ symmetry violation characterized by the difference of chiral susceptibilities. In particular, we present a reliable method to measure the anomaly strength in lattice simulations with fixed topology. We also derive new spectral sum rules and a novel Banks-Casher-type relation. Through our spectral analysis we arrive at a simple alternative proof of the Aoki-Fukaya-Taniguchi "theorem" on…
