Cognitive radio technology is an innovative radio design concept which aims to increase spectrum utilization by exploiting unused spectrum in dynamically changing environments. By extending previous results, we investigate the capacity gains achievable with this dynamic spectrum approach in asymmetric fading channels. More specifically, we allow the secondary-to-primary and secondary-to-secondary user channels to undergo Rayleigh or Rician fading, with arbitrary link power. In order to compute the capacity, we derive the distributions of ratios of Rayleigh and Rician variables. Compared to the symmetric fading scenario, our results indicate several interesting features of the capacity behaviour under both average and peak received power constraints. Finally, the impact of multiple primary users on the capacity under asymmetric fading has also been studied.
In this paper, the performance of adaptive modulation in multi-user cognitive radio networks over fading channels is analyzed. Multi-user diversity is considered for opportunistic user selection among multiple secondary users. The analysis is obtained for Nakagami-$m$ fading channels. Both adaptive continuous rate and adaptive discrete rate schemes are analysed in opportunistic spectrum access and spectrum sharing. Numerical results are obtained and depicted to quantify the effects of multi-user fading environments on adaptive modulation operating in cognitive radio networks.
In this paper we consider the capacity of the cognitive radio channel in different fading environments under a low interference regime. First we derive the probability that the low interference regime holds under shadow fading as well as Rayleigh and Rician fast fading conditions. We demonstrate that this is the dominant case, especially in practical cognitive radio deployment scenarios. The capacity of the cognitive radio channel depends critically on a power loss parameter, $α$, which governs how much transmit power the cognitive radio dedicates to relaying the primary message. We derive a s…
The ergodic capacity of underlay cognitive (secondary) dual-hop relaying systems is analytically investigated. Specifically, the amplify-and-forward transmission protocol is considered, while the received signals undergo multipath fading and shadowing with non-identical statistics. To efficiently describe this composite type of fading, the well-known generalized-$K$ fading model is used. New analytical expressions and quite accurate closed-form approximations regarding the ergodic capacity of the end-to-end communication are obtained, in terms of finite sum series of the Meijer's-$G$ function.…
In this paper we consider the capacity of the cognitive radio channel in a fading environment under a "low interference regime". This capacity depends critically on a power loss parameter, $α$, which governs how much transmit power the cognitive radio dedicates to relaying the primary message. We derive a simple, accurate approximation to $α$ which gives considerable insight into system capacity. We also investigate the effects of system parameters and propagation environment on $α$ and the cognitive radio capacity. In all cases, the use of the approximation is shown to be extremely accurate. …
This paper determines the optimum secondary user power allocation and ergodic multicast rate of point-to-multipoint communication in a cognitive radio network in the presence of outage constraints for the primary users. Using tools from extreme value theory (EVT), it is first proved that the limiting distribution of the minimum of independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) random variables (RVs) is a Weibull distribution, when the user signal and the interferer signals undergo independent and non-identically distributed (i.n.i.d.) $κ-μ$ shadowed fading.…
This paper is concerned with spectrum sharing cognitive radio networks, where a secondary user (SU) or cognitive radio link communicates simultaneously over the same frequency band with an existing primary user (PU) link. It is assumed that the SU transmitter has the perfect channel state information (CSI) on the fading channels from SU transmitter to both PU and SU receivers (as usually assumed in the literature), as well as the fading channel from PU transmitter to PU receiver (a new assumption). With the additional PU CSI, we study the optimal power control for the SU over different fading …
This paper studies the information-theoretic limits of a secondary or cognitive radio (CR) network under spectrum sharing with an existing primary radio network. In particular, the fading cognitive multiple-access channel (C-MAC) is first studied, where multiple secondary users transmit to the secondary base station (BS) under both individual transmit-power constraints and a set of interference-power constraints each applied at one of the primary receivers. This paper considers the long-term (LT) or the short-term (ST) transmit-power constraint over the fading states at each secondary transmit…
In this paper, we analyze the performance of cognitive radio (CR) systems over different composite generalized multipath /shadowed fading scenarios. The \k{appa}-μ shadowed and Fisher-Snedecor F fading channels which are proposed as a simple and high accurate distributions in comparison with generalized-K (KG) and Nakagami-m shadowed conditions are used in this analysis. For the \k{appa}-μ shadowed, a novel simple exact closed-form analytic expression for the probability density function (PDF) and the cumulative distribution function (CDF) are introduced by assuming the fading parameters are i…
In this study, the product of two independent and non-identically distributed (i.n.i.d.) random variables (RVs) for \k{appa}-μ fading distribution and α-μ fading distribution is considered. The method of the product model of RVs has been widely applied in numerous of communications fields, such as cascaded fading channels, multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems, radar communications and cognitive radio networks (CRs). The exact series expressions of the product of two i.n.i.d. RVs X for \k{appa}-μ variates and Y for α-μ variates are derived instead of Fox H-function to solve the problem…
This paper deals with the challenging problem of spectrum sensing in cognitive radio. We consider a stochastic system model where the the Primary User (PU) transmits a periodic signal over fading channels. The effect of frequency offsets due to oscillator mismatch, and Doppler offset is studied. We show that for this case the Likelihood Ratio Test (LRT) cannot be evaluated poitnwise. We present a novel approach to approximate the marginilisation of the frequency offset using a single point estimate. This is obtained via a low complexity Constrained Adaptive Notch Filter (CANF) to estimate the …
In this paper, we consider an overlay cognitive radio network, in which a secondary transmitter (ST) is willing to relay the information of a primary transmitter toward a primary receiver. In return, ST can access the licensed band to send its own information superimposed with the primary signal to a secondary receiver. The power-limited ST uses a power splitting protocol to harvest energy from its received signal to increase its transmit power. We analyze the performance of the primary and the secondary systems under independent Nakagami-m fading by deriving their corresponding outage probabi…
We consider the cognitive power control problem of maximizing the secondary throughput under an outage probability constraint on a constant-power constant-rate primary link. We assume a temporally correlated primary channel with two types of feedback: perfect delayed channel state information (CSI) and one-bit automatic repeat request (ARQ). We use channel correlation to enhance the primary and secondary throughput via exploiting the CSI feedback to predict the future primary channel gain. We provide a numerical solution for the power control optimization problem under delayed CSI. In order to…
A cognitive radio network (CRN) is formed by either allowing the secondary users (SUs) in a secondary communication network (SCN) to opportunistically operate in the frequency bands originally allocated to a primary communication network (PCN) or by allowing SCN to coexist with the primary users (PUs) in PCN as long as the interference caused by SCN to each PU is properly regulated. In this paper, we consider the latter case, known as spectrum sharing, and study the optimal power allocation strategies to achieve the ergodic capacity and the outage capacity of the SU fading channel under differ…
To enhance the national security, there is a growing need for government agencies to legitimately monitor suspicious communication links for preventing intended crimes and terror attacks. In this paper, we propose a new wireless information surveillance paradigm by investigating a scenario where a legitimate monitor aims to intercept a suspicious wireless communication link over fading channels. The legitimate monitor can successfully eavesdrop (decode) the information of the suspicious link at each fading state only when its achievable data rate is no smaller than that at the suspicious recei…
Energy detection is a widely used method of spectrum sensing in cognitive radio and Radio Detection And Ranging (RADAR) systems. This paper is devoted to the analytical evaluation of the performance of an energy detector over Weibull fading channels. This is a flexible fading model that has been shown capable of providing accurate characterization of multipath fading in, e.g., typical cellular radio frequency range of 800${/}$900 MHz. A novel analytic expression for the corresponding average probability of detection is derived in a simple algebraic representation which renders it convenient to…
In this paper, the ergodic sum-rate of a fading cognitive multiple access channel (C-MAC) is studied, where a secondary network (SN) with multiple secondary users (SUs) transmitting to a secondary base station (SBS) shares the spectrum band with a primary user (PU). An interference power constraint (IPC) is imposed on the SN to protect the PU. Under such a constraint and the individual transmit power constraint (TPC) imposed on each SU, we investigate the power allocation strategies to maximize the ergodic sum-rate of a fading C-MAC without successive interference cancellation (SIC). In partic…
In cognitive multiple access networks, feedback is an important mechanism to convey secondary transmitter primary base station (STPB) channel gains from the primary base station (PBS) to the secondary base station (SBS). This paper investigates the optimal sum-rate capacity scaling laws for cognitive multiple access networks in feedback limited communication scenarios. First, an efficient feedback protocol called $K$-smallest channel gains ($K$-SCGs) feedback protocol is proposed in which the PBS feeds back the $\K$ smallest out of $N$ STPB channel gains to the SBS. Second, the sum-rate perfor…
This paper considers spectrum sharing for wireless communication between a cognitive radio (CR) link and a primary radio (PR) link. It is assumed that the CR protects the PR transmission by applying the so-called interference-temperature constraint, whereby the CR is allowed to transmit regardless of the PR's on/off status provided that the resultant interference power level at the PR receiver is kept below some predefined threshold. For the fading PR and CR channels, the interference-power constraint at the PR receiver is usually one of the following two types: One is to regulate the average …
This paper studies optimal bandwidth and power allocation in a cognitive radio network where multiple secondary users (SUs) share the licensed spectrum of a primary user (PU) under fading channels using the frequency division multiple access scheme. The sum ergodic capacity of all the SUs is taken as the performance metric of the network. Besides all combinations of the peak/average transmit power constraints at the SUs and the peak/average interference power constraint imposed by the PU, total bandwidth constraint of the licensed spectrum is also taken into account. Optimal bandwidth allocati…
This paper is concerned with optimum diversity receiver structure and its performance analysis of differential phase shift keying (DPSK) with differential detection over nonselective, independent, nonidentically distributed, Rayleigh fading channels. The fading process in each branch is assumed to have an arbitrary Doppler spectrum with arbitrary Doppler bandwidth, but to have distinct, asymmetric fading power spectral density characteristic. Using 8-DPSK as an example, the average bit error probability (BEP) of the optimum diversity receiver is obtained by calculating the BEP for each of the …
The paper investigates the problem of maximizing expected sum throughput in a fading multiple access cognitive radio network when secondary user (SU) transmitters have energy harvesting capability, and perform cooperative spectrum sensing. We formulate the problem as maximization of sum-capacity of the cognitive multiple access network over a finite time horizon subject to a time averaged interference constraint at the primary user (PU) and almost sure energy causality constraints at the SUs. The problem is a mixed integer non-linear program with respect to two decision variables namely spectr…
In this paper, the performance of a dual-hop energy harvesting-based fixed-gain amplify-and-forward (AF) relaying communication system, subject to fading impairments, is investigated. We consider a source node ($S$) communicating with a destination node ($D$) through a fixed distant relay ($R$), which harvests energy from its received signals and uses it to amplify and forward the received signals to $D$. Power-splitting (PS) and time-switching (TS) schemes are considered in the analysis for energy harvesting. The $S$-$R$ and $R$-$D$ hops are modeled by the Nakagami-$m$ and $α$-$μ$ fading mode…
This work presents analytic solutions for a useful integral in wireless communications, which involves the Marcum $Q{-}$function in combination with an exponential function and arbitrary power terms. The derived expressions have a rather simple algebraic representation which renders them convenient both analytically and computationally. Furthermore, they can be useful in wireless communications and particularly in the context of cognitive radio communications and radar systems, where this integral is often encountered. To this end, we derive novel expressions for the probability of detection i…
Opportunistic Spatial Orthogonalization (OSO) is a cognitive radio scheme that allows the existence of secondary users and hence increases the system throughput, even if the primary user occupies all the frequency bands all the time. Notably, this throughput advantage is obtained without sacrificing the performance of the primary user, if the interference margin is carefully chosen. The key idea is to exploit the spatial dimensions to orthogonalize users and hence minimize interference. However, unlike the time and frequency dimensions, there is no universal basis for the set of all multi-dime…
The fading cognitive multiple-access channel with confidential messages (CMAC-CM) is investigated, in which two users attempt to transmit common information to a destination and user 1 also has confidential information intended for the destination. User 1 views user 2 as an eavesdropper and wishes to keep its confidential information as secret as possible from user 2. The multiple-access channel (both the user-to-user channel and the user-to-destination channel) is corrupted by multiplicative fading gain coefficients in addition to additive white Gaussian noise. The channel state information (…
In this paper we describe the effect of imperfections in the radio environment map (REM) information on the performance of cognitive radio (CR) systems. Via simulations we explore the relationship between the required precision of the REM and various channel/system properties. For example, the degree of spatial correlation in the shadow fading is a key factor as is the interference constraint employed by the primary user. Based on the CR interferers obtained from the simulations, we characterize the temporal behavior of such systems by computing the level crossing rates (LCRs) of the cumulativ…
In this paper, the performance of cognitive transmission under quality of service (QoS)constraints and interference limitations is studied. Cognitive secondary users are assumed to initially perform sensing over multiple frequency bands (or equivalently channels) to detect the activities of primary users. Subsequently, they perform transmission in a single channel at variable power and rates depending on the channel sensing decisions and the fading environment. A state transition model is constructed to model this cognitive operation. Statistical limitations on the buffer lengths are imposed t…
In this paper, performance of cognitive transmission over time-selective flat fading channels is studied under quality of service (QoS) constraints and channel uncertainty. Cognitive secondary users (SUs) are assumed to initially perform channel sensing to detect the activities of the primary users, and then attempt to estimate the channel fading coefficients through training. Energy detection is employed for channel sensing, and different minimum mean-square-error (MMSE) estimation methods are considered for channel estimation. In both channel sensing and estimation, erroneous decisions can b…
Log-likelihood ratio (LLR) computation for non-binary modulations over fading channels is complicated. A measure of LLR accuracy on asymmetric binary channels is introduced to facilitate good LLR approximations for non-binary modulations. Considering piecewise linear LLR approximations, we prove convexity of optimizing the coefficients according to this measure. For the optimized approximate LLRs, we report negligible performance losses compared to true LLRs.
Cognitive radios hold tremendous promise for increasing the spectral efficiency of wireless communication systems. In this paper, an adaptive bit allocation algorithm is presented for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) CR systems operating in a frequency selective fading environment. The algorithm maximizes the CR system throughput in the presence of narrowband interference, while guaranteeing a BER below a predefined threshold. The effect of imperfect channel estimation on the algorithm's performance is also studied.
In this paper we describe a model for calculating the aggregate interference encountered by primary receivers in the presence of randomly placed cognitive radios (CRs). We show that incorporating the impact of distance attenuation and lognormal fading on each constituent interferer in the aggregate, leads to a composite interference that cannot be satisfactorily modeled by a lognormal. Using the interference statistics we determine a number of key parameters needed for the deployment of CRs. Examples of these are the exclusion zone radius, needed to protect the primary receiver under different…
A single primary user cognitive radio system with multi-user diversity at the secondary users is considered where there is an interference constraint between secondary and primary users. The secondary user with the highest instantaneous SNR is selected for communication from a set of active users which also satisfies the interference constraint. The active number of secondary users is shown to be binomial, negative binomial, or Poisson-binomial distributed depending on various modes of operation. Outage probability in the slow fading scenario is also studied. This is then followed by a derivat…
The present paper is devoted to the evaluation of energy detection based spectrum sensing over different multipath fading and shadowing conditions. This is realized by means of a unified and versatile approach that is based on the particularly flexible mixture gamma distribution. To this end, novel analytic expressions are firstly derived for the probability of detection over MG fading channels for the conventional single-channel communication scenario. These expressions are subsequently employed in deriving closed-form expressions for the case of square-law combining and square-law selection …
We consider an underlay cognitive radio network where the secondary user (SU) harvests energy from the environment. We consider a slotted-mode of operation where each slot of SU is used for either energy harvesting or data transmission. Considering block fading with memory, we model the energy arrival and fading processes as a stationary Markov process of first order. We propose a harvest-or-transmit policy for the SU along with optimal transmit powers that maximize its expected throughput under three different settings. First, we consider a learning-theoretic approach where we do not assume a…
In this letter, we consider an underlay cognitive radio network assisted by dual-hop decode-and-forward (DF) relaying. For a general multi-user network, we adopt a max-min fairness relay selection scheme and analyse the outage probability when the channels are subject to independent and non-identical Nakagami-m fading. The relay network operates within the constraint imposed on the peak interference power tolerable by the primary receiver. We then analyse the asymptotic outage probability performance and illustrate the existence of i) the full-diversity order when the interference level at the…
A spectrum-sharing communication system where the secondary user is aware of the instantaneous channel state information (CSI) of the secondary link, but knows only the statistics and an estimated version of the secondary transmitter-primary receiver (ST-PR) link, is investigated. The optimum power profile and the ergodic capacity of the secondary link are derived for general fading channels (with continuous probability density function) under average and peak transmit-power constraints and with respect to two different interference constraints: an interference outage constraint and a signal-t…
The multi-user diversity in spectrum sharing cognitive radio systems with average power constraints over fading channels is investigated. Average power constraints are imposed for both the transmit power at the secondary transmitter and the interference power received at the primary receiver in order to provide optimal power allocation for capacity maximization at the secondary system and protection at the primary system respectively. Multiple secondary and primary receivers are considered and the corresponding fading distributions for the Rayleigh and Nakagami-m fading channels are derived. B…
This paper studies optimum power control and sum-rate scaling laws for the distributed cognitive uplink. It is first shown that the optimum distributed power control policy is in the form of a threshold based water-filling power control. Each secondary user executes the derived power control policy in a distributed fashion by using local knowledge of its direct and interference channel gains such that the resulting aggregate (average) interference does not disrupt primary's communication. Then, the tight sum-rate scaling laws are derived as a function of the number of secondary users $N$ under…
We consider a spectrum sharing communication scenario in which a primary and a secondary users are communicating, simultaneously, with their respective destinations using the same frequency carrier. Both optimal power profile and ergodic capacity are derived for fading channels, under an average transmit power and an instantaneous interference outage constraints. Unlike previous studies, we assume that the secondary user has a noisy version of the cross link and the secondary link Channel State Information (CSI). After deriving the capacity in this case, we provide an ergodic capacity generali…
Energy detection is a reliable non-coherent signal processing technology of spectrum sensing of cognitive radio networks, which thanks to its low complexity, no requirement of priori received information and fast sensing ability etc. Since the excellent performance of energy detection would be actually affected by physical multipath fading, this paper is concentrating on characteristics analysis of energy detection over composite shadowed fading channels. The small-scale and line-of-sight fading distribution consists of particular examples such as Rayleigh, Hoyt, Nakagami-m and one sided Gauss…
We study the capacity of the discrete-time Gaussian channel when its output is quantized with a one-bit quantizer. We focus on the low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime, where communication at very low spectral efficiencies takes place. In this regime a symmetric threshold quantizer is known to reduce channel capacity by a factor of 2/pi, i.e., to cause an asymptotic power loss of approximately two decibels. Here it is shown that this power loss can be avoided by using asymmetric threshold quantizers and asymmetric signaling constellations. To avoid this power loss, flash-signaling input dist…
Spectrum sensing is an essential functionality that enables cognitive radios to detect spectral holes and opportunistically use under-utilized frequency bands without causing harmful interference to primary networks. Since individual cognitive radios might not be able to reliably detect weak primary signals due to channel fading/shadowing, this paper proposes a cooperative wideband spectrum sensing scheme, referred to as spatial-spectral joint detection, which is based on a linear combination of the local statistics from spatially distributed multiple cognitive radios. The cooperative sensing …
In cognitive radio systems, employing sensing-based spectrum access strategies, secondary users are required to perform channel sensing in order to detect the activities of primary users. In realistic scenarios, channel sensing occurs with possible errors due to miss-detections and false alarms. As another challenge, time-varying fading conditions in the channel between the secondary transmitter and the secondary receiver have to be learned via channel estimation. In this paper, performance of causal channel estimation methods in correlated cognitive radio channels under imperfect channel sens…
This paper analyzes the unified performance of energy detection (ED) of spectrum sensing (SS) over generalized fading channels in cognitive radio (CR) networks. The detective performance of SS schemes will be obviously affected by fading channel between communication nodes, and ED has the advantages of fast implementation, no requirement of priori received information and low complexity, so it is meaningful to investigate ED that is performed over fading channels such as Nakagami-m channel and Rice channel, or generalized fading channels such as \k{appa}-μ fading distribution and η-μ fading di…
In this paper, we consider a general distributed estimation problem in relay-assisted sensor networks by taking into account time-varying asymmetric communications, fading channels and intermittent measurements. Motivated by centralized filtering algorithms, we propose a distributed innovation-based estimation algorithm by combining the measurement innovation (assimilation of new measurement) and local data innovation (incorporation of neighboring data). Our algorithm is fully distributed which does not need a fusion center. We establish theoretical results regarding asymptotic unbiasedness an…
This paper studies the performance of hierarchical modulation-based multimedia transmission in cognitive radio (CR) systems with imperfect channel sensing results under constraints on both transmit and interference power levels. Unequal error protection (UEP) of data transmission using hierarchical quadrature amplitude modulation (HQAM) is considered in which high priority (HP) data is protected more than low priority (LP) data. In this setting, closed-form bit error rate (BER) expressions for HP data and LP data are derived in Nakagami-$m$ fading channels in the presence of sensing errors. Su…
The future deployment of cognitive radios is critically dependent on the fact that the incumbent primary user system must remain as oblivious as possible to their presence. This in turn heavily relies on the fluctuations of the interfering cognitive radio signals. In this letter we compute the level crossing rates of the cumulative interference created by the cognitive radios. We derive analytical formulae for the level crossing rates in Rayleigh and Rician fast fading conditions. We approximate Rayleigh and Rician level crossing rates using fluctuation rates of gamma and scaled noncentral $χ^…
This paper investigates the maximum secondary throughput for a rechargeable secondary user (SU) sharing the spectrum with a primary user (PU) plugged to a reliable power supply. The SU maintains a finite energy queue and harvests energy from natural resources and primary radio frequency (RF) transmissions. We propose a power allocation policy at the PU and analyze its effect on the throughput of both the PU and SU. Furthermore, we study the impact of the bursty arrivals at the PU on the energy harvested by the SU from RF transmissions. Moreover, we investigate the impact of the rate of energy …
This letter analyzes the performance of simultaneous wireless information-and-power transfer (SWIPT) in an overlay cognitive radio network (CRN) under Nakagami-$m$ fading. A pair of secondary users (SUs) is considered in which one SU facilitates relay cooperation for communications between two primary users (PUs). In return, SUs make use of primary users' signals for energy harvesting (EH) and realize their own communications. In such a network, end-to-end bidirectional communications between the two PUs and unidirectional information exchange between the SUs can be performed in three phases. …
In this paper, cognitive transmission under quality of service (QoS) constraints is studied. In the cognitive radio channel model, it is assumed that both the secondary receiver and the secondary transmitter know the channel fading coefficients perfectly and optimize the power adaptation policy under given constraints, depending on the channel activity of the primary users, which is determined by channel sensing performed by the secondary users. The transmission rates are equal to the instantaneous channel capacity values. A state transition model with four states is constructed to model this …

In this article, we propose and analyze the performance benefit of a transmit antenna selection scheme for underlay secondary system that ensures the instantaneous interference caused by the secondary transmitter to the primary receiver is …
Opportunistic spectrum access is based on channel state information and can lead to important performance improvements for the underlying communication systems. On the other hand adaptive modulation is also based on channel state information and can achieve increased transmission rates in fading channels. In this work we propose the combination of adaptive modulation with opportunistic spectrum access and we study the anticipated effects on the performance of wireless communication systems in terms of achieved spectral efficiency and power consumption.
We consider the interference-mitigation based cognitive radio where the primary and secondary users can coexist at the same time and frequency bands, under the constraint that the rate of the primary user (PU) must remain the same with a single-user decoder. To meet such a coexistence constraint, the relaying from the secondary user (SU) can help the PU's transmission under the interference from the SU. However, the relayed signal in the known dirty paper coding (DPC) based scheme is interfered by the SU's signal, and is not "clean". In this paper, under the half-duplex constraints, we propose…

In order to facilitate the performance evaluation analytically we derive a novel exact closed-form representation for the corresponding BER which is validated through extensive comparisons with results from Monte-Carlo simulations. The proposed expression involved well known elementary and special functions which render its computational realization rather simple and straightforward. A…
This paper considers cooperative spectrum sensing in Cognitive Radios. In our previous work we have developed DualSPRT, a distributed algorithm for cooperative spectrum sensing using Sequential Probability Ratio Test (SPRT) at the Cognitive Radios as well as at the fusion center. This algorithm works well, but is not optimal. In this paper we propose an improved algorithm- SPRT-CSPRT, which is motivated from Cumulative Sum Procedures (CUSUM). We analyse it theoretically. We also modify this algorithm to handle uncertainties in SNR's and fading.
This work is devoted to the analysis of the performance of energy detection based spectrum sensing in the presence of enriched fading conditions which are distinct for the large number of multipath components and the lack of a dominant components. This type of fading conditions are characterized efficiently by the well known Nakagami${-}q$ or Hoyt distribution and the proposed analysis is carried out in the context of the area under the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve (AUC). Unlike the widely used probability of detection metric, the AUC is a single metric and has been shown to …
