Log-likelihood ratio (LLR) computation for non-binary modulations over fading channels is complicated. A measure of LLR accuracy on asymmetric binary channels is introduced to facilitate good LLR approximations for non-binary modulations. Considering piecewise linear LLR approximations, we prove convexity of optimizing the coefficients according to this measure. For the optimized approximate LLRs, we report negligible performance losses compared to true LLRs.
On a fading channel with no channel state information at the receiver, calculating true log-likelihood ratios (LLR) is complicated. Existing work assume that the power of the additive noise is known and use the expected value of the fading gain in a linear function of the channel output to find approximate LLRs. In this work, we first assume that the power of the additive noise is known and we find the optimum linear approximation of LLRs in the sense of maximum achievable transmission rate on the channel. The maximum achievable rate under this linear LLR calculation is almost equal to the max…
Due to dependence between codeword elements, index modulation (IM) and related modulation techniques struggle to provide simple solutions for practical problems such as Gray coding between information bits and constellation points; and low-complexity log-likelihood ratio (LLR) calculations for channel-encoded information bits. In this paper, we show that a modulation technique based on a simple maximum distance separable (MDS) code, in other words, MDS modulation, can provide simple yet effective solutions to these problems, rendering the MDS techniques more beneficial in the presence of codin…
A new approach for the approximation of the channel log-likelihood ratio (LLR) for wireless channels based on Taylor series is proposed. The approximation is applied to the uncorrelated flat Rayleigh fading channel with unknown channel state information at the receiver. It is shown that the proposed approximation greatly simplifies the calculation of channel LLRs, and yet provides results almost identical to those based on the exact calculation of channel LLRs. The results are obtained in the context of bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) schemes with low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes,…
We study quantization of log-likelihood ratios (LLR) in bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) systems in terms of an equivalent discrete channel. We propose to design the quantizer such that the quantizer outputs become equiprobable. We investigate semi-analytically and numerically the ergodic and outage capacity over single- and multiple-antenna channels for different quantizers. Finally, we show bit error rate simulations for BICM systems with LLR quantization using a rate 1/2 low-density parity-check code.
In this paper, the issue of designing an iterative-detection-and-decoding (IDD)-aided receiver, relying on the low-complexity probabilistic data association (PDA) method, is addressed for turbo-coded multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems using general M-ary modulations. We demonstrate that the classic candidate-search-aided bit-based extrinsic log-likelihood ratio (LLR) calculation method is not applicable to the family of PDA-based detectors. Additionally, we reveal that, in contrast to the interpretation in the existing literature, the output symbol probabilities of existing PDA algo…
We propose an Iterative Detection and Decoding (IDD) scheme with Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) codes for Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems for block-fading $F = 2$ and fast fading Rayleigh channels. An IDD receiver with soft information processing that exploits the code structure and the behaviour of the log likelihood ratios (LLR)'s is developed. Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) with Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC) and with Parallel Interference Cancellation (PIC) schemes are considered. The soft \textit{a posteriori} output of the decoder in a block-fading channel wi…
In this paper, the performance of adaptive modulation in multi-user cognitive radio networks over fading channels is analyzed. Multi-user diversity is considered for opportunistic user selection among multiple secondary users. The analysis is obtained for Nakagami-$m$ fading channels. Both adaptive continuous rate and adaptive discrete rate schemes are analysed in opportunistic spectrum access and spectrum sharing. Numerical results are obtained and depicted to quantify the effects of multi-user fading environments on adaptive modulation operating in cognitive radio networks.
We present a general method for the error analysis of spatial modulation (SM) systems over correlated and uncorrelated Rayleigh and Rician fading channels. The proposed method, making use of the properties of proper complex random variables and vectors, provides an exact upper bound for the class of fading channels considered for any number of transmit and receive antennas and for a wide family of linear modulation alphabets. Theoretical derivations are validated via simulation results.
The Golden space-time trellis coded modulation (GST-TCM) scheme was proposed in \cite{Hong06} for a high rate $2\times 2$ multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system over slow fading channels. In this letter, we present the performance analysis of GST-TCM over block fading channels, where the channel matrix is constant over a fraction of the codeword length and varies from one fraction to another, independently. In practice, it is not useful to design such codes for specific block fading channel parameters and a robust solution is preferable. We then show both analytically and by simulation t…
Using an auxiliary random variable technique, we prove that binary differential phase-shift keying and binary phase-shift keying have the same asymptotic bit-error rate performance in lognormal fading channels. We also show that differential quaternary phase-shift keying is exactly 2.32 dB worse than quaternary phase-shift keying over the lognormal fading channels in high signal-to-noise ratio regimes.
Orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) modulation is a 2-dimensional (2D) modulation scheme designed in the delay-Doppler domain, unlike traditional modulation schemes which are designed in the time-frequency domain. Through a series of 2D transformations, OTFS converts a doubly-dispersive channel into an almost non-fading channel in the delay-Doppler domain. In this domain, each symbol in a frame experiences an almost constant fade, thus achieving significant performance gains over existing modulation schemes such as OFDM. The sparse delay-Doppler impulse response which reflects the actual ph…
We study the problem of constructing coded modulation schemes over multidimensional signal sets in Nakagami-$m$ block-fading channels. In particular, we consider the optimal diversity reliability exponent of the error probability when the multidimensional constellation is obtained as the rotation of classical complex-plane signal constellations. We show that multidimensional rotations of full dimension achieve the optimal diversity reliability exponent, also achieved by Gaussian constellations. Multidimensional rotations of full dimension induce a large decoding complexity, and in some cases i…
This letter presents a comprehensive framework analyzing the asymptotic error performance of a multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) wireless system employing spatial modulation (SM) with maximum likelihood detection and perfect channel state information. Generic analytical expressions for the diversity and coding gains are deduced that reveal fundamental properties of MIMO SM systems. The presented analysis can be used to obtain closed-form upper bounds for the average bit error probability (ABEP) of MIMO SM systems under generalized fading which become asymptotically tight in the high signal…
In this paper, we address the design of codes which achieve modulation diversity in block fading single-input single-output (SISO) channels with signal quantization at receiver and low-complexity decoding. With an unquantized receiver, coding based on algebraic rotations is known to achieve modulation coding diversity. On the other hand, with a quantized receiver, algebraic rotations may not guarantee diversity. Through analysis, we propose specific rotations which result in the codewords having equidistant component-wise projections. We show that the proposed coding scheme achieves maximum mo…
In this paper, we propose two schemes for asynchronous multi-relay two-way relay (MR-TWR) systems in which neither the users nor the relays know the channel state information (CSI). In an MR-TWR system, two users exchange their messages with the help of $N_R$ relays. Most of the existing works on MR-TWR systems based on differential modulation assume perfect symbol-level synchronization between all communicating nodes. However, this assumption is not valid in many practical systems, which makes the design of differentially modulated schemes more challenging. Therefore, we design differential m…
Except for a few simple digital modulation techniques, derivation of average bit error probability over fading channels is difficult and is an involved process. In this letter, curve fitting technique has been employed to express bit error probability over AWGN of any digital modulation scheme in terms of a simple Gaussian function. Using this Gaussian function, a generalized closed form expression for computing average probability of bit error over Rayleigh fading channels has been derived. Excellent agreement has been found between error probabilities computed with our method and the rigorou…
Guessing random additive noise decoding (GRAND) is a noise-centric decoding method, which is suitable for ultra-reliable low-latency communications, as it supports high-rate error correction codes that generate short-length codewords. GRAND estimates transmitted codewords by guessing the error patterns that altered them during transmission. The guessing process requires the generation and testing of error patterns that are arranged in increasing order of Hamming weight. This approach is fitting for binary transmission over additive white Gaussian noise channels. This letter considers transmiss…
The space-time bit-interleaved coded modulation (ST-BICM) is an efficient technique to obtain high diversity and coding gain on a block-fading MIMO channel. Its maximum-likelihood (ML) performance is computed under ideal interleaving conditions, which enables a global optimization taking into account channel coding. Thanks to a diversity upperbound derived from the Singleton bound, an appropriate choice of the time dimension of the space-time coding is possible, which maximizes diversity while minimizing complexity. Based on the analysis, an optimized interleaver and a set of linear precoders,…
In this paper the symbol error performance of LoRa modulation is addressed for flat Rician block fading channels. First the exact symbol error probability of the LoRa modulation on Rician fading is derived. Then the upper and lower union bounds are employed on the derived symbol error probability. The proposed bounds are compared against the exact symbol error probability, the numerical evaluation of the symbol error probability and the state-of-art approximation of the LoRa symbol error probability. Numerical results show that while the proposed upper bound is very tight to the exact symbol e…
Error performance of noncoherent detection of on-off frequency shift keying (OOFSK) modulation over fading channels is analyzed when the receiver is equipped with multiple antennas. The analysis is conducted for two cases: 1) the case in which the receiver has the channel distribution knowledge only; and 2) the case in which the receiver perfectly knows the fading magnitudes. For both cases, the maximum a posteriori probability (MAP) detection rule is derived and analytical probability of error expressions are obtained. Numerical and simulation results indicate that for sufficiently low duty c…
This paper considers the analysis and optimization of a frequency-hopping ad hoc network with a finite number of mobiles and finite spatial extent. The mobiles communicate using coded continuous-phase frequency-shift keying (CPFSK) modulation. The performance of the system is a function of the number of hopping channels, the rate of the error-correction code, and the modulation index used by the CPFSK modulation. For a given channel model and density of mobiles, these parameters are jointly optimized by maximizing the (modulation-constrained) transmission capacity, which is a measure of the sp…
A polar coding scheme for fading channels is proposed in this paper. More specifically, the focus is Gaussian fading channel with a BPSK modulation technique, where the equivalent channel could be modeled as a binary symmetric channel with varying cross-over probabilities. To deal with variable channel states, a coding scheme of hierarchically utilizing polar codes is proposed. In particular, by observing the polarization of different binary symmetric channels over different fading blocks, each channel use corresponding to a different polarization is modeled as a binary erasure channel such th…
This study will present the design, construction and implementation of Algebraic Geometric Irregular Block Turbo Codes (AGIBTCs). Furthermore, we will evaluate its performance over fast fading channels using different modulation schemes (BPSK, QPSK, 16QAM and 64QAM). The idea behind the design of AGIBTC is to overcome the high system complexity of Algebraic Geometric Block Turbo Codes (AGBTCs) while maintaining a high Bit-Error Rate (BER) performance. This design is inspired by the idea of unequal protection of information symbols which is the core of IBTCs. Our experiments conducted over the …
Reliable communication over delay-constrained block-fading channels with discrete inputs and mismatched (imperfect) channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT) is studied. The CSIT mismatch is modeled as Gaussian random variables, whose variances decay as a power of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). A special focus is placed on the large-SNR decay of the outage probability when power control with long-term power constraints is used. Without explicitly characterizing the corresponding power allocation algorithms, we derive the outage exponent as a function of the system parameters, inclu…
A decode and forward protocol based Trellis Coded Modulation (TCM) scheme for the half-duplex relay channel, in a Rayleigh fading environment, is presented. The proposed scheme can achieve any spectral efficiency greater than or equal to one bit per channel use (bpcu). A near-ML decoder for the suggested TCM scheme is proposed. It is shown that the high SNR performance of this near-ML decoder approaches the performance of the optimal ML decoder. The high SNR performance of this near-ML decoder is independent of the strength of the Source-Relay link and approaches the performance of the optimal…
Orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) modulation has been confirmed to provide significant performance advantages against Doppler in high-mobility scenarios. The core feature of OTFS is that the time-variant channel is converted into a non-fading 2D channel in the delay-Doppler (DD) domain so that all symbols experience the same channel gain. In now available literature, the channel is assumed to be quasi-static over an OTFS frame. As for more practical channels, the input-output relation will be time-variant as the environment or medium changes. In this paper, we analyze the characterization…
With no CSI at the users, transmission over the two-user Gaussian Multiple Access Channel with fading and finite constellation at the input, is not efficient because error rates will be high when the channel conditions are poor. However, perfect CSI at the users is an unrealistic assumption in the wireless scenario, as it would involve massive feedback overheads. In this paper we propose a scheme which uses only quantized knowledge of CSI at the transmitters with the overhead being nominal. The users rotate their constellation without varying their transmit power to adapt to the existing chann…
In this paper, the performance of signaling strategies with high peak-to-average power ratio is analyzed in both coherent and noncoherent fading channels. Two recently proposed modulation schemes, namely on-off binary phase-shift keying and on-off quaternary phase-shift keying, are considered. For these modulation formats, the optimal decision rules used at the detector are identified and analytical expressions for the error probabilities are obtained. Numerical techniques are employed to compute the error probabilities. It is concluded that increasing the peakedness of the signals results in …
In this study, a cross-layer design which combines adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) and hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) techniques for a cooperative wireless network is investigated analytically. Previous analyses of such systems in the literature are confined to the case where the fading channel is independent at each retransmission, which can be unrealistic unless the channel is varying very fast. On the other hand, temporal channel correlation can have a significant impact on the performance of HARQ systems. In this study, utilizing a Markov channel model which accounts for the t…
This paper considers secure communication over free-space optical (FSO) links suffering from turbulence-induced fading. In particular, we study the average secrecy capacity of applying physical layer security to achieve security in an FSO communication system with binary-level on-off keying intensity modulation and threshold detection, a widely used system in FSO communication. We first define the instantaneous secrecy capacity for our system and then provide a lower bound of it, which is achieved based on a simple design principle for practical applications and yields a simpler equation. We n…
This paper proposes a new method for optimizing frequency-hopping ad hoc networks in the presence of Rayleigh fading. It is assumed that the system uses a capacity-approaching code (e.g., turbo or LDPC) and noncoherent binary continuous-phase frequency-shift keying (CPFSK) modulation. By using transmission capacity as the performance metric, the number of hopping channels, CPFSK modulation index, and code rate are jointly optimized. Mobiles in the network are assumed to be uniformly located within a finite area. Closed-form expressions for outage probability are given for a network characteriz…
M-ary On-Off Frequency-Shift-Keying (OOFSK) is a digital modulation format in which M-ary FSK signaling is overlaid on On/Off keying. This paper investigates the potential of this modulation format in the context of wideband fading channels. First it is assumed that the receiver uses energy detection for the reception of OOFSK signals. Capacity expressions are obtained for the cases in which the receiver has perfect and imperfect fading side information. Power efficiency is investigated when the transmitter is subject to a peak-to-average power ratio (PAR) limitation or a peak power limitation…
In this letter, we analyze power and rate adaptation in a point-to-point link with Rayleigh fading and impulsive interference. We model the impulsive interference as a Bernoulli-Gaussian random process. Adaptation is used to maximize the average spectral efficiency by changing power and rate of the transmission subject to an average power and instantaneous probability of error constraints. Without impulsive interference, it is well known that water-filling is optimal for block fading. We provide two simple schemes that show that the conventional water-filling algorithm is not optimal in an imp…
In this paper, the error performance of on-off frequency shift keying (OOFSK) modulation over fading channels is analyzed when the receiver is equipped with multiple antennas. The analysis is conducted in two cases: the coherent scenario where the fading is perfectly known at the receiver, and the noncoherent scenario where neither the receiver nor the transmitter knows the fading coefficients. For both cases, the maximum a posteriori probability (MAP) detection rule is derived and analytical probability of error expressions are obtained. The effect of fading correlation among the receiver ant…
The broadcast channel with confidential messages is a well studied scenario from the theoretical standpoint, but there is still lack of practical schemes able to achieve some fixed level of reliability and security over such a channel. In this paper, we consider a quasi-static fading channel in which both public and private messages must be sent from the transmitter to the receivers, and we aim at designing suitable coding and modulation schemes to achieve such a target. For this purpose, we adopt the error rate as a metric, by considering that reliability (security) is achieved when a suffici…
Multi-dimensional (MD) mapping offers more flexibility in mapping design for bit-interleaved coded modulation with iterative decoding (BICM-ID) and potentially improves the bandwidth efficiency. However, for higher order signal constellations, finding suitable MD mappings is a very complicated task due to the large number of possible mappings. In this paper, a novel mapping method is introduced to construct efficient MD mappings to improve the error performance of BICM-ID over Rayleigh fading channels. We propose to break the MD mapping design problem into four distinct $2$-D mapping functions…
The technique of cooperative communications is finding its way in the next generations of many wireless communication applications. Due to the distributed nature of cooperative networks, acquiring fading channels information for coherent detection is more challenging than in the traditional point-to-point communications. To bypass the requirement of channel information, differential modulation together with non-coherent detection can be deployed. This thesis is concerned with various issues related to differential modulation and non-coherent detection in cooperative networks. Specifically, the…
The polar codes are proven to be capacity-achieving and are shown to have equivalent or even better finite-length performance than the turbo/LDPC codes under some improved decoding algorithms over the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels. Polar coding is based on the so-called channel polarization phenomenon induced by a transform over the underlying binary-input channel. The channel polarization is found to be universal in many signal processing problems and has been applied to the coded modulation schemes. In this paper, the channel polarization is further extended to the multiple a…
The ergodic and outage channel capacity of different optimal and suboptimal combinations of transmit power and modulation rate adaptation strategies over a joint fading and two-path shadowing (JFTS) fading/shadowing channel is studied in this paper. Analytically tractable expressions for channel capacity are obtained, assuming perfect channel side information (CSI) at the receiver and/or the transmitter with negligible feedback delay. Furthermore, the impacts of the JFTS parameters on the channel capacity achieved by these adaptive transmission techniques are determined.
In this paper, we study the performance of space modulation for Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) wireless systems with imperfect channel knowledge at the receiver. We focus our attention on two transmission technologies, which are the building blocks of space modulation: i) Space Shift Keying (SSK) modulation; and ii) Time-Orthogonal-Signal-Design (TOSD-) SSK modulation, which is an improved version of SSK modulation providing transmit-diversity. We develop a single-integral closed-form analytical framework to compute the Average Bit Error Probability (ABEP) of a mismatched detector for b…
We characterize the capacity of Rayleigh block-fading multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels in the noncoherent setting where transmitter and receiver have no a priori knowledge of the realizations of the fading channel. We prove that unitary space-time modulation (USTM) is not capacity-achieving in the high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime when the total number of antennas exceeds the coherence time of the fading channel (expressed in multiples of the symbol duration), a situation that is relevant for MIMO systems with large antenna arrays (large-MIMO systems). This result settles a…

To develop intelligent receivers, automatic modulation classification (AMC) plays an important role for better spectrum utilization. The emerging deep learning (DL) technique has received much attention in AMC due to its superior performance in classifying data with deep structure. In this work, a novel polar-based deep learning architecture with channel compensation network (CCN) is proposed. Our test results show that learning features from polar domain (r-theta) can improve recognition accuracy by 5% and reduce training overhead by 48%. Besides, the proposed CCN is also robust to channel fa…
Error performance is one of the main performance measures and derivation of its closed-form expression has proved to be quite involved for certain systems. In this letter, a unified closed-form expression, applicable to different binary modulation schemes, for the bit error rate of dual-branch selection diversity based systems undergoing independent but not necessarily identically distributed generalized-K fading is derived in terms of the extended generalized bivariate Meijer G-function.
The main objective of this paper is to compare block transmission system performance analytically for Code Divisional Multiple Access (CDMA) modulations in Generalized Multicarrier environment against linear modulation techniques for both single user and multiuser. The effectivity of GMC-CDMA for multiuser will also be judged for different Direct Sequence CDMA (DS-CDMA) such as MC-CDMA, MC-DS-CDMA, MC-SS-CDMA. The analytical comparison will be in terms of computing probability of bit error for frequency selective and slow flat fading channels for different modulation techniques. The Bit Error …
Slow fading broadcast channels can model a wide range of applications in wireless networks. Due to delay requirements and the unavailability of the channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT), these channels for many applications are non-ergodic. The appropriate measure for designing signals in non-ergodic channels is the outage probability. In this paper, we provide a method to optimize STBCs based on the outage probability at moderate SNRs. Multilevel polar coded-modulation is a new class of coded-modulation techniques that benefits from low complexity decoders and simple rate matchi…
This paper proposes new accurate approximations for average error probability (AEP) of a communication system employing either $M$-phase-shift keying (PSK) or differential quaternary PSK with Gray coding (GC-DQPSK) modulation schemes over $κ-μ$ shadowed fading channel. Firstly, new accurate approximations of error probability (EP) of both modulation schemes are derived over additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. Leveraging the trapezoidal integral method, a tight approximate expression of symbol error probability for $M$-PSK modulation is presented, while new upper and lower bounds for …

Here I want to show a performance analysis on the basis of two different channels - AWGN and Multipath Rayleigh fading channel. This is the comparative analysis with different kinds of modulation techniques. Here I have also measured the Bit Error Rate with respect to different modulation techniques and compare the rate in different channels. My objective is to compare the different characteristics of the transmitter and receiver for different types of…

This enablesimportantgains compared toconventional quadrature amplitude modulations(QAM) under severe channel conditions. However, the corresponding demodulation complexitystill prevents its use forwider applications. This paper proposes several rotation angles for different QAM constellations anda corresponding low-complexity detection method. Results show that the proposed solution simplifies both the transmitter and the receiver with often betterperfo…
This paper studies dual-hop amplify-and-forward relaying over time-varying Rayleigh fading channels with differential M-PSK modulation and non-coherent detection. For the case of "two-symbol" detection, a first order time-series model is utilized to characterize the time-varying nature of the cascaded channel. Based on this model, an exact bit error rate (BER) expression is derived and confirmed with simulation results. The obtained expression shows that the BER is related to the auto-correlation of the cascaded channel and an irreducible error floor exists at high transmit power. To overcome …
In this paper, we analyze the error performance of decode and forward (DF) and amplify and forward (AF) multi-way relay networks (MWRN). We consider a MWRN with pair-wise data exchange protocol using binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation in both additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and Rayleigh fading channels. We quantify the possible error events in an $L$-user DF or AF MWRN and derive accurate asymptotic bounds on the probability for the general case that a user incorrectly decodes the messages of exactly $k$ ($k\in[1,L-1]$) users. We show that at high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), the…
A major performance degrading factor in free space optical communication (FSO) systems is atmospheric turbulence. Spatial diversity techniques provide a promising approach to mitigate turbulence-induced fading. In this paper, we study the error rate performance of FSO links with spatial diversity over atmospheric turbulence channels described by the Double Generalized Gamma distribution which is a new generic statistical model covering all turbulence conditions. We assume intensity modulation/direct detection with on-off keying and present the BER performance of single-input multiple-output (S…
An uplink system with a single antenna transmitter and a single receiver with a large number of antennas is considered. We propose an energy-detection-based single-shot noncoherent communication scheme which does not use the instantaneous channel state information (CSI), but rather only the knowledge of the channel statistics. The suggested system uses a transmitter that modulates information on the power of the symbols, and a receiver which measures only the average energy across the antennas. We propose constellation designs which are asymptotically optimal with respect to symbol error rate …
This paper presents a novel unified performance analysis of Space-Time Block Codes (STBCs) operating in the Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) network and subjected to generalized shadowed fading and noise scenarios. Specifically, we derive novel, simple and accurate average bit error rates (ABER) expressions for coherent modulation schemes in the generalized η-μ and shadowed κ-μ fading channels. The noise in the network is assumed to be modeled by the additive white generalized Gaussian noise (AWGGN), which encompasses the Laplacian and the Gaussian noise environments as special cases. The…
This work presents a polar coding scheme for fading channels, focusing primarily on fading binary symmetric and additive exponential noise channels. For fading binary symmetric channels, a hierarchical coding scheme is presented, utilizing polar coding both over channel uses and over fading blocks. The receiver uses its channel state information (CSI) to distinguish states, thus constructing an overlay erasure channel over the underlying fading channels. By using this scheme, the capacity of a fading binary symmetric channel is achieved without CSI at the transmitter. Noting that a fading AWGN…
In this paper, the performance of signaling strategies with high peak-to-average power ratio is analyzed over both coherent and noncoherent fading channels. Two modulation schemes, namely on-off phase-shift keying (OOPSK) and on-off frequency-shift keying (OOFSK), are considered. Initially, uncoded systems are analyzed. For OOPSK and OOFSK, the optimal detector structures are identified and analytical expressions for the error probabilities are obtained for arbitrary constellation sizes. Numerical techniques are employed to compute the error probabilities. It is concluded that increasing the p…
