In this paper we derive boundary integral identities for the bi-Laplacian eigenvalue problems under Dirichlet, Navier and simply-supported boundary conditions. By using these identities, we first obtain the uniqueness criteria for the solutions of the bi-Laplacian eigenvalue problems, and then prove that each eigenvalue of the problem with simply-supported boundary condition increases strictly with Poisson's ratio, thereby showing that each natural frequency of a simply-supported vibrating plate increases strictly with Poisson's ratio. In addition, we obtain boundary integral representations for the strain energies of the vibrating plates under the three boundary conditions.
The local solvability of the Cauchy problem for the nonlinear vibrating plate equation is showed in the framework of modulation spaces. In the opposite direction, it is proved that there is no local wellposedness in Wiener amalgam spaces even for the solution to the homogeneous vibrating plate equation.
We construct strong solutions for a nonlinear wave equation for a thin vibrating plate described by nonlinear elastodynamics. For sufficiently small thickness we obtain existence of strong solutions for large times under appropriate scaling of the initial values such that the limit system as $h\to 0$ is either the nonlinear von Kármán plate equation or the linear fourth order Germain-Lagrange equation. In the case of the linear Germain-Lagrange equation we even obtain a convergence rate of the three-dimensional solution to the solution of the two-dimensional linear plate equation.
We consider the dynamic elasticity equation, modeled by the Euler-Bernoulli plate equation, with a locally distributed singular structural (or viscoelastic ) damping in a boundary domain. Using a frequency domain method combined, based on the Burq's result, combined with an estimate of Carleman type we provide precise decay estimate showing that the energy of the system decays logarithmically as the type goes to the infinity.
We study the dispersive properties of the linear vibrating plate (LVP) equation. Splitting it into two Schrödinger-type equations we show its close relation with the Schrödinger equation. Then, the homogeneous Sobolev spaces appear to be the natural setting to show Strichartz-type estimates for the LVP equation. By showing a Kato-Ponce inequality for homogeneous Sobolev spaces we prove the well-posedness of the Cauchy problem for the LVP equation with time-dependent potentials. Finally, we exhibit the sharpness of our results. This is achieved by finding a suitable solution for the stationary …
We affirmatively solve the analogue of Lord Rayleigh's conjecture on Riemannian manifolds with positive Ricci curvature for any clamped plates in 2 and 3 dimensions, and for sufficiently large clamped plates in dimensions beyond 3. These results complement those from the flat (M. Ashbaugh & R. Benguria, 1995, and N. Nadirashvili, 1995) and negatively curved (A. Kristály, 2020) cases that are valid only in 2 and 3 dimensions, and at the same time also provide the first positive answer to Lord Rayleigh's conjecture in higher dimensions. The proofs rely on an Ashbaugh-Benguria-Nadirashvili-Talent…
In this paper we propose two numerical algorithms to derive the extremal principal eigenvalue of the bi-Laplacian operator under Navier boundary conditions or Dirichlet boundary conditions. Consider a non-homogeneous hinged or clamped plate $Ω$, the algorithms converge to the density functions on $Ω$ which they yield the maximum or minimum basic frequency of the plate.
We study regularity properties of solutions to reaction-diffusion equations ruled by the infinity laplacian operator. We focus our analysis in models presenting plateaus, i.e. regions where a non-negative solution vanishes identically. We obtain sharp geometric regularity estimates for solutions along the boundary of plateaus sets. In particular we show that the $(n-ε)$-Hausdorff measure of the plateaus boundary is finite, for a universal number $ε>0$.
We introduce a new model of the logarithmic type of wave like plate equation with a nonlocal logarithmic damping mechanism. We consider the Cauchy problem for this new model in the whole space, and study the asymptotic profile and optimal decay rates of solutions as time goes to infinity in L^{2}-sense. The operator L considered in this paper was first introduced to dissipate the solutions of the wave equation in the paper studied by Charao-Ikehata in 2020. We will discuss the asymptotic property of the solution as time goes to infinity to our Cauchy problem, and in particular, we classify the…
A Gevrey class semigroup, exponential decay and Lack of analyticity for a system formed by a Kirchhoff-Love plate equation and the equation of a membrane-like electric network with indirect fractional damping
We prove a three sphere inequality with optimal exponent at the boundary for solutions to the Kirchhoff-Love plate's equation satisfying homogeneous Dirichlet conditions. This result implies the Strong Unique Continuation Property at the Boundary (SUCPB). Our approach is based on the method of Carleman estimates, and involves the construction of an ad hoc conformal mapping preserving the structure of the operator and the employment of a suitable reflection of the solution with respect to the flatten boundary which ensures the needed regularity of the extended solution. To the authors' knowledg…
In this work we study the asymptotic behavior of solutions for a general linear second-order evolution differential equation in time with fractional Laplace operators in $\mathbb{R}^n$. We obtain improved decay estimates with less demand on the initial data when compared to previous results in the literature. In certain cases, we observe that the dissipative structure of the equation is of regularity-loss type. Due to that special structure, to get decay estimates in high frequency region in the Fourier space it is necessary to impose additional regularity on the initial data to obtain the sam…
We determine the asymptotic behaviour of eigenvalues of clamped plates under large compression, by relating this problem to eigenvalues of the Laplacian with Robin boundary conditions. Using the method of fundamental solutions, we then carry out a numerical study of the extremal domains for the first eigenvalue, from which we see that these depend on the value of the compression, and start developing a boundary structure as this parameter is increased. The corresponding number of nodal domains of the first eigenfunction of the extremal domain also increases with the compression.
