We calculate a two-pion wave function for the I=2 $S$-wave two-pion system with a finite scattering momentum and estimate the interaction range between two pions, which allows us to examine the validity of a necessary condition for the finite size formula presented by Rummukainen and Gottlieb. We work in the quenched approximation employing the plaquette gauge action for gluons and the improved Wilson action for quarks at $1/a=1.63 {\rm GeV}$ on $32^3\times 120$ lattice. The quark masses are chosen to give $m_π= 0.420$, 0.488 and $0.587 {\rm GeV}$. We find that the energy dependence of the interaction range is small and the necessary condition is satisfied for our range of the quark mass and the scattering momentum, $k \le 0.16 {\rm GeV}$. We also find that the scattering phase shift can be obtained with a smaller statistical error from the two-pion wave function than from the two-pion time correlator.
We report on the pion-pion scattering length in the I=2 channel using the parametrized fixed point action. Pion masses of 320 MeV were reached in this quenched calculation of the scattering length.
We report on progress applying the stochastic LapH method to estimate all-to-all propagators required in correlation functions of multi-hadron operators relevant for pion-pion scattering. Large-volume results for $I=2$ and $I=1$ pion-pion scattering phase shifts with good statistical precision are obtained from an $N_{\rm f} = 2+1$ anisotropic Wilson clover ensemble with $m_π = 240\mathrm{MeV}$. We also present a preliminary determination of the $I=1$ pion-pion scattering phase shift and timelike pion form factor on an isotropic $N_{\rm f}=2+1$ flavour ensemble generated by the Coordinated Lat…
Progress in calculating scattering phase shifts on $N_f=2+1$ anisotropic clover Wilson lattices is described. The stochastic LapH method facilitates computations in large volumes and for light pion masses. Results for pion masses down to 240 MeV, keeping $m_πL > 4$, are presented.
We present a preliminary report on a calculation of scattering length for I=2 $S$-wave two-pion system directly from the two-pion wave function. Results are compared with those calculated from the time dependence of two-pion four-point functions. Calculations are made with an RG-improved action for gluons and improved Wilson action for quarks at $a^{-1}=1.207(12)$ GeV on $20^3 \times 48$ and $24^3 \times 48$ lattices.
We present a calculation of the scattering phase shift for the I=2 S-wave pion-pion system in the continuum limit with two-flavor full QCD. Calculations are made at three lattice spacings, using the finite volume method of Lüscher in the center of mass frame, and its extension to the laboratory frame.
We report preliminary results for the I=2 pion scattering length a_0, calculated with chirally improved fermions. After chiral extrapolation our results are in good agreement with both, experimental and theoretical predictions.
We observe that the ratio of the on-shell scattering amplitude to the Bethe-Salpeter (BS) wave function outside the interaction range is almost independent of time in our quenched calculation of the $I=2$ two-pion scattering with almost zero momentum. In order to discuss the time independence, we present a relation between the two-pion scattering amplitude and the surface term of the BS wave function at the boundary. Using the relation under some assumptions, we show that the ratio is independent of time if the two-pion four-point function in early time is dominated by scattering states with a…
The ground state energy of a collection of n pions and m kaons with short range interactions is calculated for a volume with finite spatial extent L and periodic boundary conditions. This calculation is accomplished to order L^-6 in the large volume expansion. With this result one can extract the various two- and three-body interactions between pions and kaons from lattice QCD data.
We present a lattice QCD calculation of the scattering phase shift for the I=2 $S$-wave two-pion system using the finite size method proposed by Lüscher. We work in the quenched approximation employing the standard plaquette action at $β=5.9$ for gluons and the Wilson fermion action for quarks. The phase shift is extracted from the energy eigenvalues of the two-pion system, which are obtained by a diagonalization of the pion 4-point function evaluated for a set of relative spatial momenta. In order to change momentum of the two-pion system, calculations are carried out on $24^3\times 60$, $32^…
Scattering at physical pion mass is still an exploratory field in lattice QCD. This generally involves the extraction of excited states through multi-particle correlators on systems with resonances. In that context, distillation has been demonstrated to be effective both as a smearing kernel and a computational tool. Motivated by the study of the smearing profile of the distillation operator, we compare stochastic and exact distillation cases for different numbers of Laplacian eigenvectors using an RBC-UKQCD $N_f=2+1$ domain-wall fermion lattice with a physical pion mass.
We present a report on a calculation of scattering length for I=2 $S$-wave two-pion system from two-pion wave function. Calculations are made with an RG-improved action for gluons and improved Wilson action for quarks at $a^{-1}=1.207(12) {\rm GeV}$ on $16^3 \times 80$, $20^3 \times 80$ and $24^3 \times 80$ lattices. We investigate the validity of necessary condition for application of Lüscher's formula through the wave function. We find that the condition is satisfied for lattice volumes $L\ge 3.92 {\rm fm}$ for the quark mass range $m_π^2 = 0.273-0.736 {\rm GeV}^2$. We also find that the sca…
We calculate the two-pion wave function in the ground state of the I=2 $S$-wave system and find the interaction range between two pions, which allows us to examine the validity of the necessary condition for the finite-volume method for the scattering length proposed by Lüscher. We work in the quenched approximation employing a renormalization group improved gauge action for gluons and an improved Wilson action for quarks at $1/a=1.207(12) {\rm GeV}$ on $16^3 \times 80$, $20^3 \times 80$ and $24^3 \times 80$ lattices. We conclude that the necessary condition is satisfied within the statistical…
The elastic $I=1$ $p$-wave $ππ$ scattering amplitude is calculated together with the isovector timelike pion form factor using lattice QCD with $N_{\rm f}=2+1$ dynamical quark flavors. Wilson clover ensembles generated by the Coordinated Lattice Simulations (CLS) initiative are employed at four lattice spacings down to $a = 0.05\,\mathrm{fm}$, several pion masses down to $m_π = 200\,\mathrm{MeV}$, and spatial volumes of extent $L = 3.1-5.5\,\mathrm{fm}$. The set of measurements on these ensembles, which is publicly available, enables an investigation of systematic errors due to the finite latt…
I compare the lattice calculation of Fukugita et al. for the pion S-wave scattering lengths to the predictions of Chiral Perturbation Theory to two loop accuracy. I find good agreement, despite the use of the quenched approximation in the lattice calculation.
We determine the values of the one- and two-loop low energy constants appearing in the SU(2) Chiral Perturbation Theory calculation of pion-pion scattering. For this we use a recent and precise sum rule determination of some scattering lengths and slopes that appear in the effective range expansion. In addition we provide sum rules for these coefficients up to third order in the expansion. Our results when using only the scattering lengths and slopes of the S, P, D and F waves are consistent with previous determinations, but seem to require higher order contributions if they are to accommodate…
We investigate how Lüscher's relation between the finite-volume energy of two pions at rest and pion scattering lengths has to be modified in quenched QCD. We find that this relation changes drastically, and in particular, that ``enhanced finite-volume corrections" of order $L^0=1$ and $L^{-2}$ occur at one loop ($L$ is the linear size of the box), due to the special properties of the $η'$ in the quenched approximation. We define quenched pion scattering lengths, and show that they are linearly divergent in the chiral limit. We estimate the size of these various effects in some numerical examp…
We show that the interplay of chiral effective field theory and lattice QCD can be used in the evaluation of so-called disconnected diagrams, which appear in the study of the isoscalar and isovector channels of pion-pion scattering and have long been a major challenge for the lattice community. By means of partially-quenched chiral perturbation theory, we distinguish and analyze the effects from different types of contraction diagrams to the pion-pion scattering amplitude, including its scattering lengths and the energy-dependence of its imaginary part. Our results may be used to test the curr…
Using the framework of non-relativistic effective field theory, the finite-volume ground-state energy shift is calculated up-to-and-including $O(L^{-6})$ for the system of three pions in the channel with the total isospin $I=1$. The relativistic corrections are included perturbatively, up to the same order in the inverse of the box size $L$. The obtained explicit expression, together with the known result for the system with maximal isospin $I=3$, can be used for the extraction of two independent effective three-body couplings from the measured ground-state spectrum of three pions.
We use 2HEX smeared gauge configurations generated with an $\mathrm{N}_\mathrm{f}\mathrm{=2+1}$ clover improved Wilson action to investigate $ππ$ scattering in the $ρ$ channel. The range of lattice spacings (0.054 to 0.12 fm) and space-like extents (32 and 48) allows us to extract the scattering parameters through the volume dependence of the $ππ$-state energies according to Lüscher's formalism. The pion masses (134 to 300 MeV) are light enough to allow the decay of the rho and the level repulsion observed indicates that our data are sensitive to the interaction. We analyse our data with a mul…
We present an extraction of the pion-nucleon ($πN$) scattering lengths from low-energy $πN$ scattering, by fitting a representation based on Roy-Steiner equations to the low-energy data base. We show that the resulting values confirm the scattering-length determination from pionic atoms, and discuss the stability of the fit results regarding electromagnetic corrections and experimental normalization uncertainties in detail. Our results provide further evidence for a large $πN$ $σ$-term, $σ_{πN}=58(5)$ MeV, in agreement with, albeit less precise than, the determination from pionic atoms.
The uncoupled $P$-wave channels of nucleon-nucleon scattering are studied in an effective field theory (EFT) including a perturbative dibaryon field and perturbative pions. Good agreement between EFT results and the Nijmegen partial wave analysis is observed up to a center-of-mass momentum $k \approx 400$ MeV. Using a method that combines renormalization and fitting together, the long-standing convergence problem of EFTs in these channels with perturbative pions, for momenta above the pion mass is addressed from a new perspective.
