General relativistic quantum interference effects in the slowly rotating NUT space-time as the Sagnac effect and the phase shift effect of interfering particle in neutron interferometer are considered. It was found that in the case of the Sagnac effect the influence of NUT parameter is becoming important due to the fact that the angular velocity of the locally non rotating observer must be larger than one in the Kerr space-time. In the case of neutron interferometry it is found that due to the presence of NUT-parameter an additional term in the phase shift of interfering particle emerges. This term can be, in principle, detected by sensitive interferometer and derived results can be further used in experiments to detect the gravitomagnetic charge. Finally, as an example, we apply the obtained results to the calculation of the UCN (ultra-cold neutrons) energy level modification in the slowly rotating NUT space-time.
A global solution of the Einstein equations is given, consisting of a perfect fluid interior and a vacuum exterior. The rigidly rotating and incompressible perfect fluid is matched along the hypersurface of vanishing pressure with the stationary part of the Taub-NUT metric. The fluid core generates a negative-mass NUT space-time. The matching procedure leaves one parameter in the global solution.
The exact solution for the electromagnetic field occuring when the Kerr-Taub-NUT compact object is immersed (i) in an originally uniform magnetic field aligned along the axis of axial symmetry (ii) in dipolar magnetic field generated by current loop has been investigated. Effective potential of motion of charged test particle around Kerr-Taub-NUT gravitational source immersed in magnetic field with different values of external magnetic field and NUT parameter has been also investigated. In both cases presence of NUT parameter and magnetic field shifts stable circular orbits in the direction of…
Locally rotationally symmetric perfect fluid solutions of Einstein's gravitational equations are matched along the hypersurface of vanishing pressure with the NUT metric. These rigidly rotating fluids are interpreted as sources for the vacuum exterior which consists only of a stationary region of the Taub-NUT space-time. The solution of the matching conditions leaves generally three parameters in the global solution. Examples of perfect fluid sources are discussed.
This paper is devoted to the study of Hawking radiation as a tunneling of charged fermions through event horizons of a pair of charged accelerating and rotating black holes with NUT parameter. We evaluate tunneling probabilities of outgoing charged particles by using the semiclassical WKB approximation to the general covariant Dirac equation. The Hawking temperature corresponding to this pair of black holes is also investigated. For the zero NUT parameter, we find results consistent with those already available in the literature.
In this paper, we construct new solutions describing rotating black rings on Taub-NUT using the inverse-scattering method. These are five-dimensional vacuum space-times, generalising the Emparan-Reall and extremal Pomeransky-Sen'kov black rings to a Taub-NUT background space. When reduced to four dimensions in Kaluza-Klein theory, these solutions describe (possibly rotating) electrically charged black holes in superposition with a finitely separated magnetic monopole. Various properties of these solutions are studied, from both a five- and four-dimensional perspective.
We study how gravitational duality acts on rotating solutions, using the Kerr-NUT black hole as an example. After properly reconsidering how to take into account both electric (i.e. mass-like) and magnetic (i.e. NUT-like) sources in the equations of general relativity, we propose a set of definitions for the dual Lorentz charges. We then show that the Kerr-NUT solution has non-trivial such charges. Further, we clarify in which respect Kerr's source can be seen as a mass M with a dipole of NUT charges.
We study low-amplitude crustal oscillations of slowly rotating relativistic stars consisting of a central fluid core and an outer thin solid crust. We estimate the effect of rotation on the torsional toroidal modes and on the interfacial and shear spheroidal modes. The results compared against the Newtonian ones for wide range of neutron star models and equations of state.
We have calculated the non-radial oscillation in slowly rotating relativistic stars with the Cowling approximation. The frequencies are compared with those based on the complete linearized equations of general relativity. It is found that the results with the approximation differ by less than about $20 %$ for typical relativistic stellar models. The approximation is more accurate for higher-order modes as in the Newtonian case.
Rotating disks with nonzero radial pressure and finite radius are studied. The models are based in the Taub-NUT metric and constructed using the well-known ``displace, cut and reflect'' method. We find that the disks are made of perfect fluids with constant energy density and pressure. The energy density is negative, but the effective Newotnian density is possitive as the strong energy condition requires. We also find that the disks are not stable under radial perturbations and that there are regions of the disks where the particles move with superluminal velocities.
For slowly rotating fluids, we establish the existence of a critical point similar to the one found for non-rotating systems. As the fluid approaches the critical point, the effective inertial mass of any fluid element decreases, vanishing at that point and changing of sign beyond it. This result implies that first order perturbative method is not always reliable to study dissipative processes ocurring before relaxation. Physical consequences that might follow from this effect are commented.
We show that the first law for the rotating Taub-NUT is straightforwardly established with the surface charge method. The entropy is explicitly found as a charge, and its value is not proportional to the horizon area. We conclude that there are unavoidable contributions from the Misner strings to the charges, still, the mass and angular momentum gets standard values. However, there are no independent charges associated with the Misner strings.
We construct novel solutions to the effective Einstein equation with four dimensional cosmological constant on a 3-brane in Randall-Sundrum II scenario. The charged solution is obtained by assuming the existence of localized Maxwell fields on the 3-brane. Timelike and null circular geodesics in the neutral rotating braneworld spacetime with NUT parameter are discussed, and we find that such geodesics cannot occur on the equatorial plane. On non-equatorial planes, timelike circular geodesics can occur for the negative tidal charge, but we cannot find numerical results to support the existence o…
We study the quantum tunneling of scalars from charged accelerating and rotating black hole with NUT parameter. For this purpose we use the charged Klein-Gordon equation. We apply WKB approximation and the Hamilton-Jacobi method to solve charged the Klein-Gordon equation. We find the tunneling probability of outgoing charged scalars from the event horizon of this black hole, and hence the Hawking temperature for this black hole.
In this work, we generalized the Kerr-Newman-NUT black hole solution in Rastall gravity from Ref. 1. Here we are more focused on the black hole dynamics such as the event horizons, ergosurface, ZAMO, thermodynamic properties, and the equatorial circular orbit around the black hole such as static radius limit, null equatorial circular orbit, and innermost stable circular orbit. We present how the NUT and Rastall parameter affects the dynamic of the black hole.
We show that, at first order in the angular velocity, the general relativistic description of Rossby-Haurwitz waves (the analogues of r-waves on a thin shell) can be obtained from the corresponding Newtonian one after a coordinate transformation. As an application, we show that the results recently obtained by Rezzolla and Yoshida (2001) in the analysis of Newtonian Rossby-Haurwitz waves of a slowly and differentially rotating, fluid shell apply also in General Relativity, at first order in the angular velocity.
A family of models of counterrotating and rotating relativistic thin discs of infinite extension based on a charged and magnetized Kerr-NUT metric are constructed using the well-known "displace, cut and reflect" method extended to solutions of vacuum Einstein-Maxwell equations. The metric considered has as limiting cases a charged and magnetized Taub-NUT solution and the well known Kerr-Newman solutions. We show that for Kerr-Newman fields the eigenvalues of the energy-momentum tensor of the disc are for all the values of the parameters real quantities so that these discs do not present heat f…
We study magnetospheric structure surrounding rotating magnetized neutron star with nonvanishing NUT (Newman-Tamburino-Unti) parameter. For the simplicity of calculations Goldreich-Julian charge density is analyzed for the aligned neutron star with zero inclination between magnetic field, gravitomagnetic field and rotation axis. From the system of Maxwell equations in spacetime of slowly rotating NUT star, second-order differential equation for electrostatic potential is derived. Analytical solution of this equation indicates the general relativistic modification of an accelerating electric fi…
We consider a spacetime consisting of an empty void separated from an almost Friedmann-Lema\^ıtre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) dust universe by a spherically symmetric, slowly rotating shell which is comoving with the cosmic dust. We treat in a unified manner all types of the FLRW universes. The metric is expressed in terms of a constant characterizing the angular momentum of the shell, and parametrized by the comoving radius of the shell. Treating the rotation as a first order perturbation, we compute the dragging of inertial frames as well as the apparent motion of distant stars within the void. …
The equations describing nonradial adiabatic oscillations of differentially rotating relativistic stars are derived in relativistic slow rotation approximation. The differentially rotating configuration is described by a perturbative version of the relativistic j-constant rotation law. Focusing on the oscillation properties of the stellar fluid, the adiabatic nonradial perturbations are studied in the Cowling approximation with a system of five partial differential equations. In these equations, differential rotation introduces new coupling terms between the perturbative quantites with respect…
Following the general formalism presented by Rezzolla, Ahmedov and Miller (MNRAS, 322, 723 2001), we here derive analytic solutions of the electromagnetic fields equations in the internal and external background spacetime of a slowly rotating highly conducting magnetized neutron star. The star is assumed to be isolated and in vacuum, with a dipolar magnetic field not aligned with the axis of rotation. Our results indicate that the electromagnetic fields of a slowly rotating neutron star are modified by general relativistic effects arising from both the monopolar and the dipolar parts of the gr…
We present a hyperbolic formulation of the evolution equations describing non-radial perturbations of slowly rotating relativistic stars in the Regge--Wheeler gauge. We demonstrate the stability preperties of the new evolution set of equations and compute the polar w-modes for slowly rotating stars.
In this paper, we investigate the properties of the Lense-Thirring precession frequency and periastron precession of the relativistic bound orbits in slowly rotating naked singularity spacetimes. We show that the precession frequencies of a stationary test gyroscope are quite unique in slowly rotating naked singularity spacetimes, and therefore, one can easily distinguish them from the slowly rotating Kerr black hole spacetime. On the other hand, we also show that in slowly rotating Joshi-Malafarina-Narayan (JMN1) naked singularity spacetime, negative precession of the timelike bound orbits is…
Relativistic prescription is used to study the slow rotation of stars composed by self-gravitating bosons and fermions (fermions may be considered as neutrons). Previous results demand that purely boson stars are unable to display slow rotation, if one uses relativistic prescription with classical scalar fields. In contrast to this, the present work shows that a combined boson-neutron star in its ground-state can rotate. Their structure and stability are analysed under slow rotation approximations.
Axial oscillations relevant to the r-mode instability are studied with slow rotation formalism in general relativity. The approximate equation governing the oscillations is derived with second-order rotational corrections. The equation contains an effective 'viscosity-like' term, which originates from coupling to the polar g-mode displacements. The term plays a crucial role on the resonance point, where the disturbance on the rotating stars satisfies a certain condition at the lowest order equation. The effect is significant for newly born hot neutron stars, which are expected to be subject to…
We consider four dimensional stationary and axially symmetric spacetimes for conformally coupled scalar-tensor theories. We show that, in analogy to the Lewis-Papapetrou problem in General Relativity (GR), the theory at hand can be recast in an analogous integrable form. We give the relevant rod formalism, introduced by Weyl for vacuum GR, explicitly giving the rod structure of the black hole of Bocharova et al. and Bekenstein (BBMB), in complete analogy to the Schwarzschild solution. The additional scalar field is shown to play the role of an extra Weyl potential. We then employ the Ernst met…
We study Maxwell equations in the external background spacetime of a slowly rotating magnetized NUT star and find analytical solutions for the exterior electric fields after separating the equations of electric field into angular and radial parts in the lowest order approximation. The star is considered isolated and in vacuum, with dipolar magnetic field aligned with the axis of rotation. The contribution to the external electric field of star from the NUT charge is considered in detail.
Recent studies have raised doubts about the occurrence of r modes in Newtonian stars with a large degree of differential rotation. To assess the validity of this conjecture we have solved the eigenvalue problem for Rossby-Haurwitz waves (the analogues of r waves on a thin-shell) in the presence of differential rotation. The results obtained indicate that the eigenvalue problem is never singular and that, at least for the case of a thin-shell, the analogues of r modes can be found for arbitrarily large degrees of differential rotation. This work clarifies the puzzling results obtained in calcul…
In this review we present the most general form of the Janis--Newman algorithm. This extension allows to generate configurations which contain all bosonic fields with spin less than or equal to two (real and complex scalar fields, gauge fields, metric field) and with five of the six parameters of the Plebański-Demiański metric (mass, electric charge, magnetic charge, NUT charge and angular momentum). Several examples are included to illustrate the algorithm. We also discuss the extension of the algorithm to other dimensions.
We investigate properties of r-modes characterized by regular eigenvalue problem in slowly rotating relativistic polytropes. Our numerical results suggest that discrete r-mode solutions for the regular eigenvalue problem exist only for restricted polytropic models. In particular the r-mode associated with l=m=2, which is considered to be the most important for gravitational radiation driven instability, do not have a discrete mode as solutions of the regular eigenvalue problem for polytropes having the polytropic index N > 1.18 even in the post-Newtonian order. Furthermore for a N=1 polytrope,…
We study the solutions of the Euclidean-signature Einstein equations (gravitational instantons) whose line-element takes the Kerr-bolt form, characterized by three real parameters: a size, a NUT charge, and a spin rate. The exclusion of singularities eliminates most combinations of these parameters, leaving only separated solution-manifolds between which continuous transitions are impossible (The angular velocity divided by the temperature is forced to be a rational multiple of $2π$). This ``quantization'' prevents the free variations presupposed by an equation like $T dS=dM + ΩdJ$, and thereb…
We present a new hydro code based on spectral methods using spherical coordinates. The first version of this code aims at studying time evolution of inertial modes in slowly rotating neutron stars. In this article, we introduce the anelastic approximation, developed in atmospheric physics, using the mass conservation equation to discard acoustic waves. We describe our algorithms and some tests of the linear version of the code, and also some preliminary linear results. We show, in the Newtonian framework with differentially rotating background, as in the relativistic case with the strong Cowli…
For relativistic stars rotating slowly and differentially with a positive angular velocity, some properties in relation to the positiveness of the rate of rotational dragging and of the angular momentum density are derived. Also, a new proof for the bounds on the rotational mass-energy is given.
We study different models of radiating slowly rotating bodies up to the first order in the angular velocity. It is shown that up to this order the evolution of the eccentricity is highly model-dependent even for very compact objects.
It is interesting to note that most black holes are born very slowly rotating. We investigate scalarization of slowly rotating black holes in the Einstein-scalar-Chern-Simons (EsCS) theory. In the slow rotation approximation, the CS term takes a linear form of rotation parameter $a$ which determines the tachyonic instability. The tachyonic instability for slowly rotating black holes represents the onset of spontaneous scalarization. It is shown that the slowly rotating black holes are unstable against a spherically symmetric scalar-mode perturbation for positive coupling $α$, whereas these bla…
An exact solution of Einstein's equations which represents a pair of accelerating and rotating black holes (a generalised form of the spinning C-metric) is presented. The starting point is a form of the Plebanski-Demianski metric which, in addition to the usual parameters, explicitly includes parameters which describe the acceleration and angular velocity of the sources. This is transformed to a form which explicitly contains the known special cases for either rotating or accelerating black holes. Electromagnetic charges and a NUT parameter are included, the relation between the NUT parameter …
Hartle's model for slowly rotating stars has been extensively used to compute equilibrium configurations of slowly rotating stars to second order in perturbation theory in General Relativity, given a barotropic equation of state (EOS). A recent study based on the modern theory of perturbed matchings show that the model must be amended to accommodate EOS's in which the energy density does not vanish at the surface of the non rotating star. In particular, the expression for the change in mass given in the original model, i.e. a contribution to the mass that arises when the perturbations are chos…
In this paper, the gravitational wave generation by a slowly rotating thin-shell wormhole is considered. Since the rotating thin-shell wormhole is assumed to be an axisymmetric rigid body, the rotation axis coincides with the largest principal axis which means there is no precession motion. However, if there is a perturbation in the angular velocity, the rotating wormhole can move with precession by perturbation which make arise the gravitational waves. We derive the gravitational wave spectrum, energy loss rate, and angular momentum loss rate.
We investigate the Kerr-Newman-NUT black hole solution obtained from Plebański-Demiański solutions with several assumptions. The origin of the microscopic entropy of this black hole is investigated using the conjectured Kerr/CFT correspondence which is originally proposed for extremal Kerr black holes. The isometry of the near-horizon extremal Kerr-Newman-NUT black hole shows that the asymptotic symmetry group may be implemented to compute the central charge of the Virasoro algebra. Furthermore, by assuming Frolov-Thorne vacuum, the conformal temperatures can be obtained. Then by using the Car…
In this paper, with an appropriate combination of three Liouville-type dilaton potentials, we obtain the higher dimensional charged slowly rotating dilaton black hole solution for asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetime. The angular momentum and the gyromagnetic ratio of such a black hole are determined for the arbitrary values of the dilaton coupling constant. It is shown that the dilaton field modifies the gyromagnetic ratio of the rotating dilaton black holes.
We investigate the area spectrum for rotating black holes which are Kerr and BTZ black holes. For slowly rotating black holes, we use the Maggiore's idea combined with Kunstatter's method to derive their area spectra, which are equally spaced.
A general formalism to find the density profile of a slowly rotating stellar object in modified gravity is presented. We derive a generic Lane-Emden equation and its analytical solution for a wide class of modified theories of gravity.
A global model of a slowly rotating perfect fluid ball in general relativity is presented. To second order in the rotation parameter, the junction surface is an ellipsoidal cylinder. The interior is given by a limiting case of the Wahlquist solution, and the vacuum region is not asymptotically flat. The impossibility of joining an asymptotically flat vacuum region has been shown in a preceding work.
We examine charged slowly rotating perfect fluids in the presence of a cosmological constant. The asymptotic form of the vacuum solutions to the linearised Einstein-Maxwell field equations is found and the possibility of matching this vacuum to the slow rotating García metric is considered. We show that, contrary to the case of zero cosmological constant, this García metric can be matched to an asymptotically de Sitter vacuum in the slow rotation limit. We conclude the García metric may potentially be suitable for describing a charged isolated rotating body in a cosmological background.
We investigate slowly rotating black holes in the Hořava-Lifshitz (HL) gravity. For $Λ_W=0$ and $λ=1$, we find a slowly rotating black hole of the Kehagias-Sfetsos solution in asymptotically flat spacetimes. We discuss their thermodynamic properties by computing mass, temperature, angular momentum, and angular velocity on the horizon.
We provide semi-analytic expressions for quasinormal mode frequencies of slowly rotating Kerr black holes to the quadratic order in the rotation parameter. We apply the parametrized black hole quasinormal mode ringdown formalism to the Chandrasekhar-Detweiler equation and the Sasaki-Nakamura equation instead of the Teukolsky equation, and compare our result with the previous numerical calculations.
We solve Einstein's equations for slowly-rotating gravitational condensate stars (gravastars) up to second order in the rotation by expanding about the spherically symmetric gravastar with de Sitter interior and Schwarzschild exterior matched at their common horizon. Requiring that the perturbations are finite on the null surface reduces the exterior geometry to that of a Kerr black hole, implying that a slowly rotating gravastar cannot be distinguished from a Kerr black hole by any measurement or observation restricted to the macroscopic spacetime exterior to the horizon. We determine the int…
A general class of solutions of Einstein's equation for a slowly rotating fluid source, with supporting internal pressure, is matched using Lichnerowicz junction conditions, to the Kerr metric up to and including first order terms in angular speed parameter. It is shown that the match applies to any previously known non-rotating fluid source made to rotate slowly for which a zero pressure boundary surface exists. The method is applied to the dust source of Robertson-Walker and in outline to an interior solution due to McVittie describing gravitational collapse. The applicability of the method …
In this work we find charged slowly rotating solutions in the four-dimensional Einstein-power-Maxwell non-linear electrodynamics assuming a negative cosmological constant. By solving the system of coupled field equations explicitly we obtain an approximate analytical solution in the small rotation limit. The solution obtained is characterized by a flat horizon structure, and it corresponds to a toroidal black hole. The Smarr's formula, the thermodynamics and the invariants Ricci scalar and Kretschmann scalar are briefly discussed.
Stationary, axisymmetric and slowly rotating vacuum spacetimes in the Hořava-Lifshitz (HL) gravity are studied, and shown that, for any given spherical static vacuum solution of the HL theory (of any model, including the ones with an additional U(1) symmetry), there always exists a corresponding slowly rotating, stationary and axisymmetric vacuum solution, which reduces to the former, when the rotation is switched off. The rotation is universal and only implicitly depends on the models of the HL theory and their coupling constants through the spherical seed solution. As a result, all asymptoti…
It is shown that the well-known non-Abelian static SU(2) black hole solutions have rotating generalizations, provided that the hypothesis of linearization stability is accepted. Surprisingly, this rotating branch has an asymptotically Abelian gauge field with an electric charge that cannot vanish, although the non-rotating limit is uncharged. We argue that this may be related to our second finding, namely that there are no globally regular slowly rotating excitations of the particle-like Bartnik-McKinnon solutions.
We study slowly rotating four-dimensional black holes with flat horizon structure in scale-dependent gravity. First we obtain the solution, and then we study thermodynamic properties as well as the invariants of the theory. The impact of the scale-dependent parameter is investigated in detail. We find that the scale-dependent solution exhibits a single singularity at the origin, also present in the classical solution.
By using a new approach, we demonstrate analytic expressions for slowly rotating Gauss-Bonnet charged black holes with negative cosmological constant. Up to the linear order of the rotating parameter a, the mass, Hawking temperature and entropy of the charged black holes get no corrections from rotation.
Slowly rotating perfect fluid balls with regular center and asymptotically flat exterior are considered to second order in the rotation parameter. The necessary condition for being Petrov type D is given for general perfect fluid matter. As a special case, fluids with a linear equation of state are considered. Using a power series expansion at the regular center, it is shown that the Petrov D condition is inconsistent with the linear equation of state assumption.
Slowly rotating black holes in the non-projectable Hořava-Lifshitz (HL) theory were studied recently in Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 109}, 181101 (2012), and claimed that they do not exist. In this Comment, we show that this is incorrect, and such solutions indeed exist in the IR limit of the non-projectable HL theory.
We discuss rotating wormholes in general relativity with a scalar field with negative kinetic energy. To solve the problem, we use the assumption about slow rotation. The role of a small dimensionless parameter plays the ratio of the linear velocity of rotation of the wormhole's throat and the velocity of light. We construct the rotating wormhole solution in the second order approximation with respect to the small parameter. The analysis shows that the asymptotical mass of the rotating wormhole is greater than that of the non-rotating one, and the NEC violation in the rotating wormhole spaceti…
Using the optical reference geometry approach, we have derived in the following, a general expression for the ellipticity of a slowly rotating fluid configuration using Newtonian force balance equation in the conformally projected absolute 3-space, in the realm of general relativity. Further with the help of Hartle-Thorne (H-T) metric for a slowly rotating compact object, we have evaluated the centrifugal force acting on a fluid element and also evaluated the ellipticity and found that the centrifugal reversal occurs at around $R/R_s \approx 1.45$, and the ellipticity maximum at around $R/R_s …
The near horizon geometries are usually constructed by implementing a specific limit to a given extreme black hole configuration. Their salient feature is that the isometry group includes the conformal subgroup SO(2,1). In this work, we turn the logic around and use the conformal invariants for constructing Ricci-flat metrics in d=4 and d=5 where the vacuum Einstein equations reduce to a coupled set of ordinary differential equations. In four dimensions the analysis can be carried out in full generality and the resulting metric describes the d=4 near horizon Kerr-NUT black hole. In five dimens…
Spherically symmetric static fluid sources are endowed with rotation and embedded in Kerr empty space-time up to an including quadratic terms in an angular velocity parameter using Darmois junction conditions. Einstein's equation's for the system are developed in terms of linear ordinary differential equations. The boundary of the rotating source is expressed explicitly in terms of sinusoidal functions of the polar angle which differ somewhat according to whether an equation of state exists between internal density and supporting pressure.
