We analyze the stability of the structure equations of the vacuum in the brane world models, by using both the linear (Lyapunov) stability analysis, and the Jacobi stability analysis, the Kosambi-Cartan-Chern (KCC) theory. In the brane world models the four dimensional effective Einstein equations acquire extra terms, called dark radiation and dark pressure, respectively, which arise from the embedding of the 3-brane in the bulk. Generally, the spherically symmetric vacuum solutions of the brane gravitational field equations, have properties quite distinct as compared to the standard black hole solutions of general relativity. We close the structure equations by assuming a simple linear equation of state for the dark pressure. In this case the vacuum is Jacobi stable only for a small range of values of the proportionality constant relating the dark pressure and the dark radiation. The unstable trajectories on the brane behave chaotically, in the sense that after a finite radial distance it would be impossible to distinguish the trajectories that were very near each other at an initial point. Hence the Jacobi stability analysis offers a powerful method for constraining the physical properties of the vacuum on the brane.
We analyze the stability of the geodesic curves in the geometry of the Gibbons-Maeda-Garfinkle-Horowitz-Strominger black hole, describing the space time of a charged black hole in the low energy limit of the string theory. The stability analysis is performed by using both the linear (Lyapunov) stability method, as well as the notion of Jacobi stability, based on the Kosambi-Cartan-Chern theory. Brief reviews of the two stability methods are also presented. After obtaining the geodesic equations in spherical symmetry, we reformulate them as a two-dimensional dynamic system. The Jacobi stability…
Effective gravitational field equations on a four dimensional brane embedded in a five dimensional bulk have been considered. Using the Einstein-Hilbert action along with the Gauss-Bonnet correction term, we have derived static spherically symmetric vacuum solution to the effective field equations, first order in the Gauss-Bonnet coupling parameter. The solution so obtained, has one part corresponding to general relativity with an additional correction term, proportional to the Gauss-Bonnet coupling parameter. The correction term modifies the spacetime structure, in particular, the location of…
We consider non-spherically symmetric perturbations of the uncharged black string/flat black brane in the large dimension (D) limit of general relativity. We express the perturbations in a simplified form using variables introduced by Ishibashi and Kodama. We apply the large D limit to the equations, and show that this leads to decoupling of the equations in the near-horizon and asymptotic regions. It also enables use of matched asymptotic expansions to obtain approximate analytical solutions and to analyze stability of the black string/brane. For a large class of non-spherically symmetric per…
In curved space-time, Hamilton-Jacobi equation is a semi-classical particle's motion equation, which plays an important role in the research of black hole physics. In this paper, starting from Dirac equation describing the spin 1/2 fermion and Rarita-Schwinger equation describing the spin 3/2 fermion respectively, we derive a Hamilton-Jacobi equation of the non-stationary spherically symmetric gravitational field background. Furthermore, the quantum tunneling behavior of a charged spherically symmetric black hole is investigated by using this Hamilton-Jacobi equation. The result shows that the…
We derive a general expression for obtaining Holographic subregion complexity for asymptotically $AdS$ spacetimes, pertubatively around pure $AdS$ using a variational technique. An essential step in finding subregion complexity is to identify the bulk minimal surface of the entangling subregion. Our method therefore heavily relies on solutions of an inhomogeneous version of Jacobi equation, used to study deformations of the entangling surface for perturbations of the bulk metric. Using this method we have obtained the change in complexity for a strip and a circular disk like subsystem for \emp…
The condition R=0, where R is the four-dimensional scalar curvature, is used for obtaining a large class (with an arbitrary function of r) of static, spherically symmetric Lorentzian wormhole metrics. The wormholes are globally regular and traversable, can have throats of arbitrary size and can be both symmetric and asymmetric. These metrics may be treated as possible wormhole solutions in a brane world since they satisfy the vacuum Einstein equations on the brane where effective stress-energy is induced by interaction with the bulk gravitational field. Some particular examples are discussed.
We develop a covariant scheme to describe the dynamics of small perturbations on Lovelock type extended objects propagating in a flat Minkowski spacetime. The higher-dimensional analogue of the Jacobi equation in this theory becomes a wave type equation for a scalar field $Φ$. Whithin this framework, we analyse the stability of membranes with a de Sitter geometry where we find that the Jacobi equation specializes to a Klein-Gordon (KG) equation for $Φ$ possessing a tachyonic mass. This shows that, to some extent, these type of extended objects share the symmetries of the Dirac-Nambu-Goto (DNG)…
We present a systematic study of spherically symmetric vacuum solutions of the IKKT matrix model, within the framework of semi-classical covariant quantum geometries. All asymptotically flat solutions of the equations of motion of the frame are found explicitly. They reproduce the linearized Schwarzschild geometry for large $r$ but deviate from it at the non-linear level, and include contributions from dilaton and axion. They are pertinent to the pre-gravity theory arising on classical brane solutions within the classical matrix model, before taking into account the Einstein-Hilbert term induc…
A covariant simultaneous action for branes in an arbitrary curved background spacetime is considered. The action depends on a pair of independent field variables, the brane embedding functions, through the canonical momentum of a reparametrization invariant geometric model for the brane, and an auxiliary vector field. The form of the action is analogous to a symplectic potential. Extremization of the simultaneous action produces at once the equations of motion and the Jacobi equations for the brane geometric model, and it also provides a convenient shortcut towards its second variation. In thi…
In this work, we study the geodesic structure for a geometry described by a spherically symmetric four-dimensional solution embedded in a five-dimensional space known as a brane-based spherically symmetric solution. Mainly, we have found that the extra dimension contributes to the existence of bounded orbits for the photons, such as planetary and circular stable orbits that have not been observed for other geometries.
In this work, we present an extensive dynamical analysis of the null geodesics in the spacetimes proposed by Casadio, Fabbri, and Mazzacurati (CFM), which model black holes and wormholes in a Randall-Sundrum brane. Geodesic stability is evaluated by Lyapunov and Jacobi criteria, with coinciding results. Semistable photon spheres are found in the geometries of interest. Bifurcations associated with the dynamical system are also investigated, characterizing a degenerated Bogdanov-Takens bifurcation. Our results suggest deep connections between the geometric characteristics of the CFM spacetimes …
It is known that the Einstein field equations in five dimensions admit more general spherically symmetric black holes on the brane than four-dimensional general relativity. We propose two families of analytic solutions (with g_tt\not=-1/g_rr), parameterized by the ADM mass and the PPN parameter beta, which reduce to Schwarzschild for beta=1. Agreement with observations requires |β-1| |η|<<1. The sign of eta plays a key role in the global causal structure, separating metrics which behave like Schwarzschild (eta<0) from those similar to Reissner-Nordstroem (eta>0). In the latter case, we find a …
