We present a method to compute pairing fluctuations on top of the Gutzwiller approximation (GA). Our investigations are based on a charge-rotational invariant GA energy functional which is expanded up to second order in the pair fluctuations. Equations of motion for the fluctuations lead to a renormalized ladder type approximation. Both spectral functions and corrections to static quantities, like the ground-state energy, are computed. The quality of the method is examined for the single-band Hubbard model where we compare the dynamical pairing correlations for s- and d-wave symmetries with exact diagonalizations and find a significant improvement with respect to analogous calculations done within the standard Hartree-Fock ladder approximation. The technique has potential applications in the theory of Auger spectroscopy, superconductivity, and cold atom physics.
We develop a diagrammatic method for the evaluation of general multi-band Gutzwiller wave functions in finite dimensions. Our approach provides a systematic improvement of the widely used Gutzwiller approximation. As a first application we investigate itinerant ferromagnetism and correlation-induced deformations of the Fermi surface for a two-band Hubbard model on a square lattice.
We demonstrate that a recently introduced slave-boson mean-field theory is equivalent to our Gutzwiller theory for multi-band Hubbard models with general onsite interactions. We relate the different objects that appear in both approaches at zero temperature and discuss the limitations of both methods.
Based on the variational Gutzwiller theory, we present a method for the computation of response functions for multiband Hubbard models with general local Coulomb interactions. The improvement over the conventional random-phase approximation is exemplified for an infinite-dimensional two-band Hubbard model where the incorporation of the local multiplet-structure leads to a much larger sensitivity of ferromagnetism on the Hund coupling. Our method can be implemented into LDA+Gutzwiller schemes and will therefore be an important tool for the computation of response functions for strongly correlat…
We investigate the electronic and superconducting properties of a negative-U Hubbard model. For this purpose we evaluate a recently introduced variational theory based on Gutzwiller-correlated BCS wave functions. We find significant differences between our approach and standard BCS theory, especially for the superconducting gap. For small values of $|U|$, we derive analytical expressions for the order parameter and the superconducting gap which we compare to exact results from perturbation theory.
The optimized single-particle wave functions contained in the parameters of the Hubbard model (t and U) were determined for an infinite atomic chain. In effect, the electronic properties of the chain as a function of interatomic distance R were obtained and compared for the Lieb - Wu exact solution (LW), the Gutzwiller-Wave-Function approximation (GWF), and the Gutzwiller-ansatz case (GA). The ground state energy and other characteristics for the infinite chain were also compared with those obtained earlier for a nanoscopic chain within the Exact Diagonalization combined with an Ab Initio adju…
We formulate a multi-band generalisation of the time-dependent Gutzwiller theory. This approach allows for the calculation of general two-particle response functions, which are crucial for an understanding of various experiments in solid-state physics. As a first application, we study the momentum- and frequency-resolved magnetic susceptibility in a two-band Hubbard model. Like in the underlying ground-state approaches we find significant differences between the results of our method and those from a time-dependent Hartree-Fock approximation.
We introduce Gutzwiller conjugate gradient minimization (GCGM) theory, an ab initio quantum many-body theory for computing the ground-state properties of infinite systems. GCGM uses the Gutzwiller wave function but does not use the commonly adopted Gutzwiller approximation (GA), which is a major source of inaccuracy. Instead, the theory uses an approximation that is based on the occupation probability of the on-site configurations, rather than approximations that decouple the site-site correlations as used in the GA. We test the theory in the one-dimensional and two-dimensional Hubbard models …
We introduce a new type of Gutzwiller variational wavefunction for correlated electrons coupled to phonons, able to treat on equal footing electronic and lattice degrees of freedom. We benchmark the wavefunction in the infinite-$U$ Hubbard-Holstein model away from half-filling on a Bethe lattice, where we can directly compare with exact results by Dynamical Mean-Field Theory. For this model, we find that variational results agree perfectly well with the exact ones. In particular the wavefunction correctly describes the crossover to a heavy polaron gas upon increasing the electron-phonon coupli…
We develop a time-dependent Gutzwiller approximation (GA) for the Hubbard model analogous to the time-dependent Hartree-Fock (HF) method. The formalism incorporates ground state correlations of the random phase approximation (RPA) type beyond the GA. Static quantities like ground state energy and double occupancy are in excellent agreement with exact results in one dimension up to moderate coupling and in two dimensions for all couplings. We find a substantial improvement over traditional GA and HF+RPA treatments. Dynamical correlation functions can be easily computed and are also substantiall…
We present a detailed study of the time-dependent Gutzwiller approximation for the Hubbard model. The formalism, labelled GA+RPA, allows us to compute random-phase approximation-like (RPA) fluctuations on top of the Gutzwiller approximation (GA). No restrictions are imposed on the charge and spin configurations which makes the method suitable for the calculation of linear excitations around symmetry-broken solutions. Well-behaved sum rules are obeyed as in the Hartree-Fock (HF) plus RPA approach. Analytical results for a two-site model and numerical results for charge-charge and current-curren…
We analyze the ground-state properties of strongly-correlated electrons coupled with phonons by means of a generalized Gutzwiller wavefunction which includes phononic degrees of freedom. We study in detail the paramagnetic half-filled Hubbard-Holstein model, where the electron-electron interaction can lead to a Mott transition, and the electron-phonon coupling to a bipolaronic transition. We critically discuss the quality of the proposed wavefunction in describing the various transitions and crossovers that occur as a function of the parameters. Previous variational attempts are recovered as p…
We investigate the applicability of the two existing versions of a time-dependent Gutzwiller approximation (TDGA) beyond the frequently used limit of infinite spatial dimensions. To this end, we study the two-particle response functions of a two-site Hubbard model where we can compare the exact results and those derived from the TDGA. It turns out that only the more recently introduced version of the TDGA can be combined with a diagrammatic approach which allows for the evaluation of Gutzwiller wave functions in finite dimensions. For this TDGA method we derive the time-dependent Lagrangian fo…
We use a spin-rotational invariant Gutzwiller energy functional to compute random-phase-approximation-like (RPA) fluctuations on top of the Gutzwiller approximation (GA). The method can be viewed as an extension of the previously developed GA+RPA approach for the charge sector [G. Seibold and J. Lorenzana, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 86}, 2605 (2001)] with respect to the inclusion of the magnetic excitations. Unlike the charge case, no assumptions about the time evolution of the double occupancy are needed in this case. Interestingly, in a spin-rotational invariant system, we find the correct degene…
The two-dimensional Hubbard model is studied using the variational quantum Monte Carlo technique with Gutzwiller-type variational wave functions. In addition to the simple one-site correlated Gutzwiller wave function, we use a form with correlation between electrons on nearest- and next-nearest-neighbor sites. We show that the stochastic gradient approximation method suits very well for the optimization of the free parameters of the variational wave functions.
We consider strongly correlated limit of variants of the Hubbard model (HM) in which on parts of the system it is energetically favourable to project out doublons from the low energy Hilbert space while on other sites of the system it is favourable to project out holes while still allowing for doublons. As an effect the low energy Hilbert space itself varies with sites of the system. Though the formalism is well developed for the case of doublon projection in the literature, case of hole projection has not been explored in detail so far. We derive basic framework by defining creation and annih…
We propose a quantum-classical hybrid scheme for implementing the nonunitary Gutzwiller factor using a discrete Hubbard-Stratonovich transformation, which allows us to express the Gutzwiller factor as a linear combination of unitary operators involving only single-qubit rotations, at the cost of the sum over the auxiliary fields. To perform the sum over the auxiliary fields, we introduce two approaches that have complementary features. The first approach employs a linear-combination-of-unitaries circuit, which enables one to probabilistically prepare the Gutzwiller wave function on a quantum c…
We give a comprehensive introduction into an efficient numerical scheme for the minimisation of Gutzwiller energy functionals in studies on multi-band Hubbard models. Our method covers all conceivable cases of Gutzwiller variational wave functions and has been used successfully in previous numerical studies.
We use the Gutzwiller variational theory to calculate the ground-state phase diagram and quasi-particle bands of LaOFeAs. The Fe3d--As4p Wannier-orbital basis obtained from density-functional theory defines the band part of our eight-band Hubbard model. The full atomic interaction between the electrons in the iron orbitals is parameterized by the Hubbard interaction U and an average Hund's-rule interaction J. We reproduce the experimentally observed small ordered magnetic moment over a large region of (U,J) parameter space. The magnetically ordered phase is a stripe spin-density wave of quasi-…
Using the generalized Gutzwiller method we present results on the ferromagnetic behavior of extended Hubbard models with two degenerate eg orbitals. We find significant differences to results obtained from Hartree-Fock theory.
We define Landau quasi-particles within the Gutzwiller variational theory, and derive their dispersion relation for general multi-band Hubbard models in the limit of large spatial dimensions D. Thereby we reproduce our previous calculations which were based on a phenomenological effective single-particle Hamiltonian. For the one-band Hubbard model we calculate the first-order corrections in 1/D and find that the corrections to the quasi-particle dispersions are small in three dimensions. They may be largely absorbed in a rescaling of the total band width, unless the system is close to half ban…
We extend our previous approach (Eur. Phys. J. B, \textbf{74}, 63(2010)) to modeling correlated electronic states and the metal-insulator transition by applying the so-called \emph{statistically consistent Gutzwiller approximation} (SGA) to carry out self-consistent calculations of the renormalized single-particle Wannier functions in the correlated state. The transition to the Mott-Hubbard insulating state at temperature T=0 is of weak first order even if antiferromagnetism is disregarded. The magnitude of the introduced self-consistent magnetic correlation field is calculated and shown to le…
We use the Gutzwiller variational many-body theory to investigate the stability of orbitally ordered states in a two-band Hubbard-model without spin degrees of freedom. Our results differ significantly from earlier Hartree-Fock calculations for this model. The Hartree-Fock phase diagram displays a large variety of orbital orders. In contrast, in the Gutzwiller approach orbital order only appears for densities in a narrow region around half filling.
We present analytic results for ground-state properties of Hubbard-type models in terms of the Gutzwiller variational wave function with non-zero values of the magnetization m. In dimension D=1 approximation-free evaluations are made possible by appropriate canonical transformations and an analysis of Umklapp processes. We calculate the double occupation and the momentum distribution, as well as its discontinuity at the Fermi surface, for arbitrary values of the interaction parameter g, density n, and magnetization m. These quantities determine the expectation value of the one-dimensional Hubb…
Ground-state properties, such as energies and double occupancies, of a one-dimensional two-band Hubbard model are calculated using a first principles Gutzwiller conjugate gradient minimization theory. The favorable agreement with the results from the density matrix renormalization group theory demonstrates the accuracy of our method. A rotationally invariant approach is further incorporated into the method to greatly reduce the computational complexity with a speedup of 300 times. Moreover, we investigate the Mott transition between a metal and a Mott insulator by evaluating the charge gap. Wi…
We develop an extension of the Gutzwiller Approximation (GA) formalism that includes the effects of Coulomb interactions of arbitrary range (including density density, exchange, pair hopping and Coulomb assisted hopping terms). This formalism reduces to the ordinary GA formalism for the multi-band Hubbard models in the presence of only local interactions. This is accomplished by combining the 1/z expansion -- where z is the coordination number and only the leading order terms contribute in the limit of infinite dimensions -- with a P^2-I expansion, where P is the Gutzwiller projector. The meth…
Partially-projected Gutzwiller variational wavefunctions are used to describe the ground state of disordered interacting systems of fermions. We compare several different variational ground states with the exact ground state for disordered one-dimensional chains, with the goal of determining a minimal set of variational parameters required to accurately describe the spatially-inhomogeneous charge densities and spin correlations. We find that, for weak and intermediate disorder, it is sufficient to include spatial variations of the charge densities in the product state alone, provided that scre…
We study in this paper a series of Gutzwiller Projected wavefunctions for S=1 spin chains obtained from a fermionic mean-field theory for general S>1/2 spin systems [Phys. Rev. B 81, 224417] applied to the bilinear-biquadratic (J-K) model. The free-fermion mean field states before the projection are 1D paring states. By comparing the energies and correlation functions of the projected pairing states with those obtained from known results, we show that the optimized Gutzwiller projected wavefunctions are very good trial ground state wavefunctions for the antiferromagnetic bilinear-biquadratic m…
We calculate the magnetic phase diagram of the half-filled t-t'-U Hubbard model as a function of t' and U, within the Gutzwiller approximation RPA (GA+RPA). As U increases, the system first crosses over to one of a wide variety of incommensurate phases, whose origin is clarified in terms of double nesting. We evaluate the stability regime of the incommensurate phases by allowing for symmetry-breaking with regard to the formation of spin spirals, and find a crossover to commensurate phases as U increases and a full gap opens. The results are compared with a variety of other recent calculations,…
We develop a quantum many-body theory of the Bose-Hubbard model based on the canonical quantization of the action derived from a Gutzwiller mean-field ansatz. Our theory is a systematic generalization of the Bogoliubov theory of weakly-interacting gases. The control parameter of the theory, defined as the zero point fluctuations on top of the Gutzwiller mean-field state, remains small in all regimes. The approach provides accurate results throughout the whole phase diagram, from the weakly to the strongly interacting superfluid and into the Mott insulating phase. As specific examples of applic…
Within a Lagrangian formalism we derive the time-dependent Gutzwiller approximation for general multi-band Hubbard models. Our approach explicitly incorporates the coupling between time-dependent variational parameters and a time-dependent density matrix from which we obtain dynamical correlation functions in the linear response regime. Our results are illustrated for the one-band model where we show that the interacting system can be mapped to an effective problem of fermionic quasiparticles coupled to "doublon" (double occupancy) bosonic fluctuations. The latter have an energy on the scale o…
The minimum of the Gutzwiller energy functional depends on the number of parameters considered in the variational state. For a three-orbital Hubbard model we find that the frequently used diagonal Ansatz is very accurate in high-symmetry situations. For lower symmetry, induced by a crystal-field splitting or the spin-orbit coupling, the discrepancies in energy between the most general and a diagonal Gutzwiller Ansatz can be quite significant. We discuss approximate schemes that may be employed in multi-band cases where a minimization of the general Gutzwiller energy functional is too demanding…
Modification of interatomic distances due to high pressure leads to exotic phenomena, including metallicity, superconductivity and magnetism, observed in materials not showing such properties in normal conditions. In two-dimensional crystals, such as graphene, atomic bond lengths can be modified by more that 10 percent by applying in-plane strain, i.e., without generating high pressure in the bulk. In this work, we study the strain-induced Mott transition on a honeycomb lattice by using computationally inexpensive techniques, including Gutzwiller Wave Function (GWF) and different variants of G…
We develop an extension of the Gutzwiller approximation to finite temperatures based on the Dirac-Frenkel variational principle. Our method does not rely on any entropy inequality, and is substantially more accurate than the approaches proposed in previous works. We apply our theory to the single-band Hubbard model at different fillings, and show that our results compare quantitatively well with dynamical mean field theory in the metallic phase. We discuss potential applications of our technique within the framework of first principle calculations.

We investigate multi-band Hubbard models for the three iron 3$d$-$t_{2g}$ bands and the two iron 3$d$-$e_g$ bands in ${\rm La O Fe As}$ by means of the Gutzwiller variational theory. Our analysis of the paramagnetic ground state shows that neither Hartree--Fock mean-field theories nor effective spin models describe these systems adequately. In contrast to Hartree--Fock-type approaches, the Gutzwiller theory predicts that antiferromagnetic order requires substantial values of the local Hund's-rule exchange interaction. For the three-band model, the antiferromagnetic moment fits experimental dat…
We study the Hubbard model with bond-charge interaction (`correlated hopping') in terms of the Gutzwiller wave function. We show how to express the Gutzwiller expectation value of the bond-charge interaction in terms of the correlated momentum-space occupation. This relation is valid in all spatial dimensions. We find that in infinite dimensions, where the Gutzwiller approximation becomes exact, the bond-charge interaction lowers the critical Hubbard interaction for the Brinkman-Rice metal-insulator transition. The bond-charge interaction also favors ferromagnetic transitions, especially if th…
We present a method incorporating biorthogonal orbital-optimization, symmetry projection, and double-occupancy screening with a non-unitary similarity transformation generated by the Gutzwiller factor $ n_{i\uparrow}n_{i\downarrow}$, and apply it to the Hubbard model. Energies are calculated with mean-field computational scaling with high-quality results comparable to coupled cluster singles and doubles. This builds on previous work performing similarity transformations with more general, two-body Jastrow-style correlators. The theory is tested on two-dimensional lattices ranging from small sy…
A systematic diagrammatic expansion for Gutzwiller-wave functions (DE-GWF) is formulated and used for the description of superconducting (SC) ground state in the two-dimensional Hubbard model with electron-transfer amplitudes t (and t') between nearest (and next-nearest) neighbors. The method is numerically very efficient and allows for a detailed analysis of the phase diagram as a function of all relevant parameters (U, δ, t') and a determination of the kinetic-energy driven pairing region. SC states appear only for substantial interactions, U/t > 3, and for not too large hole doping, δ< 0.32…
We develop the Gutzwiller approximation method to obtain the renormalized Hamiltonian of the SU(4) $t$-$J$ model with the corresponding renormalization factors. Subsequently, a mean-field theory is employed on the renormalized Hamiltonian of the model on the honeycomb lattice under the scenario of a cooperative condensation of carriers moving in the resonating valence bond state of flavors. In particular, we find that the extended $s$-wave superconducting state is more favorable than the $d\pm id$-wave superconducting state in the doping range close to quarter filling. The pairing states of th…
We present a simple scheme to evaluate linear response functions including quantum fluctuation corrections on top of the Gutzwiller approximation. The method is derived for a generic multi-band lattice Hamiltonian without any assumption about the dynamics of the variational correlation parameters that define the Gutzwiller wavefunction, and which thus behave as genuine dynamical degrees of freedom that add on those of the variational uncorrelated Slater determinant. We apply the method to the standard half-filled single-band Hubbard model. We are able to recover known results, but, as by-produ…
We investigated kinetic properties of correlated pairing states in strongly correlated phase of the Hubbard model in two space dimensions. We employ an optimization variational Monte Carlo method, where we use the improved wave function $ψ_λ= e^{-λK}ψ_G$ for the Gutzwiller wave function $ψ_G$ with $K$ being the kinetic part of the Hamiltonian. The Gutzwiller-BCS state is stabilized as the potential energy driven superconductivity because the Coulomb interaction energy is lowered while the kinetic energy increases in this state. In contrast, we show that in the $ψ_λ$-BCS wave function $ψ_{λ-BCS…
Asymmetric two-leg Hubbard ladders with different on-site interactions $U_y$ and hoppings $t_y$ on each leg are investigated using the density matrix renormalization group method and exact diagonalizations. The pairing found in symmetric ladders is robust against the introduction of the leg asymmetry. When studying pairing, one-band Hubbard ladder models are better described as one-dimensional correlated two-band models than as sublattices of higher dimensional systems. The asymmetric Hubbard ladder provides us with a simple model for studying pairing in the crossover regime between charge tra…
Taking inspiration from the state-of-the art knowledge of the Bose-Hubbard (BH) model and recent methodological developments in its fermionic counterpart, this work deals with the study of the collective dynamics of a lattice Bose gas beyond the mean-field picture through a quantum description of its elementary excitations. The Hamiltonian quantization, performed via a Bogoliubov quadratization of the BH action within the Gutzwiller approach, allows to expand the effective action of the theory up to second order in the fluctuations around the mean-field solution, as well as to prefigure the po…
We investigate analytically a connection between the t-J model and the strongly correlated Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) Hamiltonian, with the effect of strong electron correlations accounted by the Gutzwiller projection. We show that in the immediate vicinity of half filling the projected 2D BCS Hamiltonian with strong pairing develops an antiferromagnetically (AF) ordered ground state. This result explicitly demonstrates that antiferromagnetism in this model appears as a natural consequence of the strong Coulomb repulsion in a low doped regime. At moderate doping the ground state of the Gu…
Local spin fluctuations provide the glue for orbital-singlet spin-triplet pairing in the doped Mott insulating regime of multi-orbital Hubbard models. At large Hubbard repulsion $U$, the pairing susceptibility is nevertheless very low, because the pairing interaction cannot overcome the suppression of charge fluctuations. Using nonequilibrium dynamical mean field simulations of the two-orbital Hubbard model, we show that out of equilibrium the pairing susceptibility in this large-$U$ regime can be strongly enhanced by creating a photo-induced population of the relevant charge states, and that …
To shed light into the pairing mechanism of possible spin-triplet superconductors (TMTSF)$_2$X and Sr$_2$RuO$_4$, we study the competition among various spin singlet and triplet pairing channels in the Hubbard model by calculating the pairing interaction vertex using the ground state quantum Monte Carlo technique. We model (TMTSF)$_2$X by a quarter-filled quasi-one dimensional (quasi-1D) Hubbard model, and the $γ$ band of Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ by a two dimensional (2D) Hubbard model with a band filling of $\sim 4/3$. For the quasi-1D system, we find that triplet $f$-wave pairing not only dominates over…
The Gutzwiller approximate solution to the Gutzwiller wavefunction yields exact results for the Gutzwiller wavefunction in the infinite dimensional limit. Implicit in the Gutzwiller approximation is an approximate local form of the fermion exchange hole. This approximate form is the same for all dimensions but is incorrect except in infinite dimensions. We implement the correct form for the exchange hole into the Gutzwiller approximation. We perform calculations on the one-dimensional Hubbard model at half-filling. They indicate that the implementation of the exchange hole already brings the G…
We consider the Hubbard model and its extensions on bipartite lattices. We define a dynamical group based on the $η$-pairing operators introduced by C.N.Yang, and define coherent pairing states, which are combinations of eigenfunctions of $η$-operators. These states permit exact calculations of numerous physical properties of the system, including energy, various fluctuations and correlation functions, including pairing ODLRO to all orders. This approach is complementary to BCS, in that these are superconducting coherent states associated with the exact model, although they are not eigenstates…
We solve the attractive Hubbard model for arbitrary interaction strengths within dynamical mean-field theory. We compute the transition temperature for superconductivity and analyze electron pairing in the normal phase. The normal state is a Fermi liquid at weak coupling and a non-Fermi liquid state with a spin gap at strong coupling. Away from half-filling, the quasi-particle weight vanishes discontinuously at the transition between the two normal states.
The Hubbard model and its extensions are important microscopic models for understanding high- $T_c$ superconductivity in cuprates. In the model with next-nearest-neighbor hopping $t'$ (the $t'$- Hubbard model), pairing is strongly influenced by $t'$ . In particular, a recent study on a width-4 cylinder observed quasi-long-rage superconducting order, associated with a negative $t'$ , which was taken to imply superconductivity in the two-dimensional (2D) limit. In this work we study more carefully pairing in the width-4 $t'$-Hubbard model. We show that in this specific system, the pairing symmet…
An extensive Quantum Monte Carlo calculation is performed for the two-leg Hubbard ladder model to clarify whether the singlet pairing correlation decays slowly, which is predicted from the weak-coupling theory but controversial from numerical studies. Our result suggests that the discreteness of energy levels in finite systems affects the correlation enormously, where the enhanced pairing correlation is indeed detected if we make the energy levels of the bonding and anti-bonding bands lie close to each other at the Fermi level to mimic the thermodynamic limit.
Quantum Monte Carlo is used to investigate the possibility of d_{x^2-y^2} superconductivity in the two-dimensional repulsive Hubbard model. A small energy scale relevant to possible pairing requires a care (i.e., sufficiently small level separation between the $k$ points $(δk,π-δk')$ and $(π-δk'',δk''')$ with small $δk$'s) to detect enhanced correlations in finite-size studies, as motivated from a previous study on Hubbard ladders. Our calculation indeed detects long-tailed enhancements in the d_{x^2-y^2} pairing correlation when the system is near, but not exactly at, half-filling.
Cluster dynamical mean field calculations are used to construct the superconducting gap function of the two dimensional Hubbard model. The frequency dependence of the imaginary part of the gap function indicates that the pairing is dominated by fluctuations at two characteristic frequencies: one at the scale of the hopping matrix element $t$ and one at a much lower scale. The lower frequency component becomes more important as the doping is reduced into the pseudogap regime. Comparison to available information on the spin fluctuation spectrum of the model suggests that the superconductivity ar…
We propose a new method of solving a class of mean-field (MF) models, which is based on the Maximum Entropy (MaxEnt) principle with additional constraints included. Next, we show equivalence of our method when applied to the Gutzwiller approximation (GA), with the mean-field slave-boson (SB) formalism (on the example of the single-band Hubbard model). This equivalence provides thus an alternative justification of the results obtained within the SB approach which, however, contains ad hoc assumptions to position it in agreement with GA. Our approach implies that all predictions of the MF SB met…
The dominating superconducting pairing symmetry of the kagome-lattice Hubbard model is investigated using the determinant quantum Monte Carlo method. The superconducting instability occurs when doping the correlated insulators formed by the Hubbard interaction near the Dirac filling, and the superconducting state exhibits an electron-hole asymmetry. Among the pairing symmetries allowed, we demonstrate that the dominating channel is d-wave in the hole-doped case. This opens the possibility of condensation into an unconventional $d_{x^2-y^2}+id_{xy}$ phase, which is characterized by an integer t…
Through Variational Monte Carlo simulation we show the d-wave RVB pairing in the Heisenberg model on triangular lattice can be better described in terms of a two component order parameter. The fully gapped chiral d-wave RVB state, which is predicted by the mean field theory to be the unique minimum of variational energy in the two dimensional representation space of d-wave pairing, is found to be actually a local maximum and the true minimum of energy is reached by the non-chiral $d_{xy}$ state with line nodes. We also find that the usual Gutzwiller approximation, which enjoys great success fo…
