In this article we answer a question raised by N. Feldman in \cite{Feldman} concerning the dynamics of tuples of operators on $\mathbb{R}^n$. In particular, we prove that for every positive integer $n\geq 2$ there exist $n$ tuples $(A_1, A_2, ..., A_n)$ of $n\times n$ matrices over $\mathbb{R}$ such that $(A_1, A_2, ..., A_n)$ is hypercyclic. We also establish related results for tuples of $2\times 2$ matrices over $\mathbb{R}$ or $\mathbb{C}$ being in Jordan form.
In this paper, we study the relative perturbation bounds for joint eigenvalues of commuting tuples of normal $n \times n$ matrices. Some Hoffman-Wielandt type relative perturbation bounds are proved using the Clifford algebra technique. A result is also extended for diagonalizable matrices which improves a relative perturbation bound for single matrices.
Based on a question raised by N. Feldman we discuss the dynamics of tuples of upper triangular Toeplitz matrices over $\mathbb{C}$. Some open problems are posed.
In this paper we extend the notion of a locally hypercyclic operator to that of a locally hypercyclic tuple of operators. We then show that the class of hypercyclic tuples of operators forms a proper subclass to that of locally hypercyclic tuples of operators. What is rather remarkable is that in every finite dimensional vector space over $\mathbb{R}$ or $\mathbb{C}$, a pair of commuting matrices exists which forms a locally hypercyclic, non-hypercyclic tuple. This comes in direct contrast to the case of hypercyclic tuples where the minimal number of matrices required for hypercyclicity is rel…
We study interpolating sequences of $d$-tuples of matrices, by looking at the commuting and the non-commuting case separately. In both cases, we will give a characterization of such sequences in terms of separation conditions on suitable reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces, and we will give sufficient conditions stated in terms of separation via analytic functions. Examples of such interpolating sequences will also be given
For a tuple of operators $\boldsymbol{A}= (A_1, \ldots, A_d)$, $\text{dist}(\boldsymbol{A}, \mathbb C^d \boldsymbol{I})$ is defined as $\min\limits_{\boldsymbol{z} \in \mathbb C^d} \|\boldsymbol{A-zI}\|$ and $\text{var}_x (\boldsymbol{A})$ as $\|\boldsymbol{A} x\|^2-\sum_{j=1}^d {\big|}\langle x| A_j x\rangle{\big|}^2.$ For a tuple $\boldsymbol{A}$ of commuting normal operators, it is known that $$\text{dist}(\boldsymbol{A}, \mathbb C^d \boldsymbol{I})^2=\sup_{\|x\|=1}\text{var}_x (\boldsymbol{A}).$$ We give an expression for the maximal joint numerical range of a tuple of doubly commuting mat…
We show that whenever a contractive $k$-tuple $T$ on a finite dimensional space $H$ has a unitary dilation, then for any fixed degree $N$ there is a unitary $k$-tuple $U$ on a finite dimensional space so that $q(T) = P_H q(U) |_H$ for all polynomials $q$ of degree at most $N$.
A tuple (T_1,...,T_k) of (n x n) matrices over R is called hypercyclic if for some x in R^n the set {T^{m_1} T^{m_2}...T^{m_k} x : m_1,m_2,...,m_k in N} is dense in R^n. We prove that the minimum number of (n x n) matrices in Jordan form over R which form a hypercyclic tuple is n+1. This answers a question of Costakis, Hadjiloucas and Manoussos.
Given a tuple $E=(E_1,\dots,E_g)$ of $d\times d$ matrices, the collection of those tuples of matrices $X=(X_1,\dots,X_g)$ (of the same size) such that $\| \sum E_j\otimes X_j\|\le 1$ is called a spectraball $\mathcal B_E$. Likewise, given a tuple $B=(B_1,\dots,B_g)$ of $e\times e$ matrices the collection of tuples of matrices $X=(X_1,\dots,X_g)$ (of the same size) such that $I + \sum B_j\otimes X_j +\sum B_j^* \otimes X_j^*\succeq 0$ is a free spectrahedron $\mathcal D_B$. Assuming $E$ and $B$ are irreducible, plus an additional mild hypothesis, there is a free bianalytic map $p:\mathcal B_E\t…

In this document we study the local path connectivity of sets of $m$-tuples of commuting normal matrices with some additional geometric constraints in their joint spectra. In particular, given $\varepsilon>0$ and any fixed but arbitrary $m$-tuple $\mathbf{X}\in {M_n(\mathbb{C})}^m$ in the set of $m$-tuples of pairwise commuting normal matrix contractions, we prove the existence of paths between arbitrary $m$-tuples in the intersection of the previously mentioned sets of $m$-tuples in ${M_n(\mathbb{C})}^m$ and the $δ$-ball $B_ð(\mathbf{X},δ)$ centered at $\mathbf{X}$ for some $δ>0$, with respec…
We establish an invertibility criterion for free polynomials and free functions evaluated on some tuples of matrices. We show that if the derivative is nonsingular on some domain closed with respect to direct sums and similarity, the function must be invertible. Thus, as a corollary, we establish the Jacobian conjecture in this context. Furthermore, our result holds for commutative polynomials evaluated on tuples of commuting matrices.
Subsets of the set of $g$-tuples of matrices that are closed with respect to direct sums and compact in the free topology are characterized. They are, in a dilation theoretic sense, contained in the hull of a single point.
The main result of this article establishes the free analog of Grothendieck's Theorem on bijective polynomial mappings of $\mathbb{C}^g$. Namely, we show if $p$ is a polynomial mapping in $g$ freely non-commuting variables sending $g$-tuples of matrices (of the same size) to $g$-tuple of matrices (of the same size) that is injective, then it has a free polynomial inverse. Other results include an algorithm that tests if a free polynomial mapping $p$ has a polynomial inverse (equivalently is injective; equivalently is bijective). Further, a class of free algebraic functions, called hyporational…
Weyl's unitary matrices, which were introduced in Weyl's 1927 paper on group theory and quantum mechanics, are $p\times p$ unitary matrices given by the diagonal matrix whose entries are the $p$-th roots of unity and the cyclic shift matrix. Weyl's unitaries, which we denote by $\mathfrak u$ and $\mathfrak v$, satisfy $\mathfrak u^p=\mathfrak v^p=1_p$ (the $p\times p$ identity matrix) and the commutation relation $\mathfrak u\mathfrak v=ζ\mathfrak v\mathfrak u$, where $ζ$ is a primitive $p$-th root of unity. We prove that Weyl's unitary matrices are universal in the following sense: if $u$ and…
It is well-known that, in general, an appearance of an algebraic hypersurface of finite multiplicity in the projective joint spectrum of an operator tuple does not imply the existence of a finite-dimensional common invariant subspace. We prove that if for a pair of operators A,B the project time joint spectrum of $A, B$ and $AB$ contains the surface $\{[x,y,z,t]\in {\mathbb C}{\mathbb P}^3: x^n+y^n+(-1)^{n-1}z^n-t^n=0\}$, the under some mild conditions this implies the existence of a subspace of dimension $n$ invariant for both $A$ and $B$. Itbis shown that the appearance of this surface has a …
We show that the mixed discriminant of $n$ positive semidefinite $n \times n$ real symmetric matrices can be approximated within a relative error $ε>0$ in quasi-polynomial $n^{O(\ln n -\ln ε)}$ time, provided the distance of each matrix to the identity matrix in the operator norm does not exceed some absolute constant $γ_0 >0$. We deduce a similar result for the mixed discriminant of doubly stochastic $n$-tuples of matrices from the Marcus - Spielman - Srivastava bound on the roots of the mixed characteristic polynomial. Finally, we construct a quasi-polynomial algorithm for approximating the …
