The three-dimensional classical dimer model with interactions shows an unexpected continuous phase transition between an ordered dimer crystal and a Coulomb liquid. A detailed analysis of the critical dimer and monomer correlation functions point to a subtle interplay between the fluctuations of the crystal order parameter and the "magnetic" degrees of freedom present in the Coulomb phase. The distribution probability of the crystal order parameter suggests an emerging continuous O(3) symmetry at the critical point.
We study the fully-packed dimer model on the bilayer square lattice with fugacity equal to $z$ ($1$) for inter-layer (intra-layer) dimers, and intra-layer interaction $V$ between neighbouring parallel dimers on any elementary plaquette in either layer. For a range of not-too-large $z> 0$ and repulsive interactions $0< V < V_s$ (with $V_s \approx 2.1$), we demonstrate the existence of a {\em bilayer Coulomb phase} with purely dipolar two-point functions, {\em i.e.}, without the power-law columnar order that characterizes the usual Coulomb phase of square and honeycomb lattice dimer models. The …
We study phases and transitions of the square-lattice double dimer model, consisting of two coupled replicas of the classical dimer model. As on the cubic lattice, we find a thermal phase transition from the Coulomb phase, a disordered but correlated dimer liquid, to a phase where fluctuations of the two replicas are closely synchronized with one another. Surprisingly, and in contrast to the cubic case, the phase boundary includes the noninteracting point, as we establish using a symmetry-based analysis of an effective height theory, indicating that infinitesimal coupling is sufficient to sync…

Quantum dimer models are known to host topological quantum spin liquid phases, and it has recently become possible to simulate such models with Rydberg atoms trapped in arrays of optical tweezers. Here, we present large-scale quantum Monte Carlo simulation results on an extension of the triangular lattice quantum dimer model with terms in the Hamiltonian annihilating and creating single dimers. We find distinct odd and even $\mathbb{Z}_2$ spin liquids, along with several phases with no topological order: a staggered crystal, a nematic phase, and a trivial symmetric phase with no obvious broken…
