We derive a determinant formula for the WKB exponential of singularly perturbed Zakharov-Shabat system that corresponds to the semiclassical (zero dispersion) limit of the focusing Nonlinear Schr\" odinger equation. The derivation is based on the Riemann-Hilbert Problem (RHP) representation of the WKB exponential. We also prove its independence of the branchpoints of the corresponding hyperelliptic surface assuming that the modulation equations are satisfied.
We study the theory of scattering for the Maxwell-Schr"odinger system in the Coulomb gauge in space dimension 3. We prove in particular the existence of modified wave operators for that system with no size restriction on the magnetic field data in the framework of a direct method which requires smallness of the Schr"odinger data, and we determine the asymptotic behaviour in time of solutions in the range of the wave operators.
We study the theory of scattering for the Wave-Schr"odinger system with Yukawa type coupling in space dimension 3. We consider the singular semiclassical initial value problem for the phase space Schrodinger equation. We approximate semiclassical quantum evolution in phase space by analyzing initial states as superpositions of Gaussian wave packets and applying individually semiclassical anisotropic Gaussian wave packet dynamics, which is based on the the nearby orbit approximation; we accordingly construct a semiclassical approximation of the phase space propagator, the semiclassical wave packet propagator. By the semiclassical propagator we construct asymptotic solutions of the phase space Schrodinger …

We continue the study of scattering theory for the system consisting of a Schr"odinger equation and a wave equation with a Yukawa type coupling in space dimension 3. In previous papers, we proved the existence of modified wave operators for that system with no size restriction on the data and we determined the asymptotic behaviour in time of the solutions in the range of the wave operators, first under a support condition on the Schr"odinger asymptotic state and then without that condition, but for solutions of relatively low regularity. Here we extend the latter result to the case of more reg…
We continue the study of scattering theory for the system consisting of a Schr"odinger equation and a wave equation with a Yukawa type coupling in space dimension 3. In a previous paper we proved the existence of modified wave operators for that system with no size restriction on the data and we determined the asymptotic behaviour in time of solutions in the range of the wave operators, under a support condition on the asymptotic state required by the different propagation properties of the wave and Schr"odinger equations. Here we eliminate that condition by using an improved asymptotic form fo…
We study the theory of scattering for the Maxwell-Schr"odinger system in space dimension 3, in the Coulomb gauge. We prove the existence of modified wave operators for that system with no size restriction on the Schr"odinger and Maxwell asymptotic data and we determine the asymptotic behaviour in time of solutions in the range of the wave operators. The method consists in partially solving the Maxwell equations for the potentials, substituting the result into the Schr"odinger equation, which then becomes both nonlinear and nonlocal in time. The Schr"odinger function is then parametrized in ter…
Recently several authors have developed multilinear and in particular quadratic extensions of the classical Morawetz inequality. Those extensions provide (among other results) an easy proof of asymptotic completeness in the energy space for nonlinear Schr"odinger equations in arbitrary space dimension and for Hartree equations in space dimension greater than two in the noncritical cases. We give a pedagogical review of the latter results.

We prove a unique continuation principle for spectral projections of Schr\" odinger operators. We consider a Schr\" odinger operator $H= -Δ+ V$ on $\mathrm{L}^2(\mathbb{R}^d)$, and let $H_Λ$ denote its restriction to a finite box $Λ$ with either Dirichlet or periodic boundary condition. We prove unique continuation estimates of the type $χ_I (H_Λ) W χ_I (H_Λ) \ge κ\, χ_I (H_Λ) $ with $κ>0$ for appropriate potentials $W\ge 0$ and intervals $I$. As an application, we obtain optimal Wegner estimates at all energies for a class of non-ergodic random Schr\" odinger operators with alloy{-type random…
The semiclassical limit of the focusing Nonlinear (cubic) Schr\" odinger Equation (NLS) corresponds to the singularly perturbed Zakharov Shabat (ZS) system that defines the direct and inverse scattering transforms (IST). In this paper, we derive explicit expressions for the leading order terms of these transforms, which are called semiclassical limits of the direct and inverse scattering transforms. Thus, we establish an explicit connection between the decaying initial data of the form $q(x,0)=A(x)e^{iS(x)}$ and the leading order term of its scattering data. This connection is expressed in ter…
We study the asymptotic behaviour in time of solutions and the theory of scattering for the modified Schr"odinger map in two space dimensions. We solve the Cauchy problem with large finite initial time, up to infinity in time, and we determine the asymptotic behaviour in time of the solutions thereby obtained. As a byproduct, we obtain global existence for small data in H^k inter FH^k with k > 1. We also solve the Cauchy problem with infinite initial time, namely we construct solutions defined in a neighborhood of infinity in time, with prescribed asymptotic behaviour of the previous type.
It is shown that a large subset of initial data with finite energy ($L^2$ norm)evolves nearly linearly in nonlinear Schr\" odinger equation with periodic boundary conditions. These new solutions are not perturbations of the known ones such as solitons, semiclassical or weakly linear solutions.
We study the theory of scattering for a Schr"odinger equation in an external time dependent magnetic field in the Coulomb gauge, in space dimension 3. The magnetic vector potential is assumed to satisfy decay properties in time that are typical of solutions of the free wave equation, and even in some cases to be actually a solution of that equation. That problem appears as an intermediate step in the theory of scattering for the Maxwell-Schr"odinger (MS) system. We prove in particular the existence of wave operators and their asymptotic completeness in spaces of relatively low regularity. We a…
In this paper we show the existence of ground-state solutions for the energy-critical NLS perturbed with subcritical terms when the space dimension $d\geq4$. However in dimension three, we show that when the perturbation is small enough, then such solution does not exist. For the evolution equation, we show the existence of finite time blow up of solutions with radially symmetric data with energy below the one of the ground state.
This paper deals with exact formulas for the resolvent kernels and exact solutions of time dependent Schrödinger equations under a uniform magnetic field on the hyperbolic half plane $\H$, and under a diatomic molecular Morse potential on the real line $\R$.
In this paper, we study the existence of traveling waves for a fourth order Schr\" odinger equations with mixed dispersion, that is, solutions to $$Δ^2 u +βΔu +i V \nabla u +αu =|u|^{p-2} u,\ in\ \R^N ,\ N\geq 2.$$ We consider this equation in the Helmholtz regime, when the Fourier symbol $P$ of our operator is strictly negative at some point. Under suitable assumptions, we prove the existence of solution using the dual method of Evequoz and Weth provided that $p\in (p_1 , 2N/(N-4)_+)$. The real number $p_1$ depends on the number of principal curvature of $M$ staying bounded away from $0$, whe…
I present an example of a discrete Schr"odinger operator that shows that it is possible to have embedded singular spectrum and, at the same time, discrete eigenvalues that approach the edges of the essential spectrum (much) faster than exponentially. This settles a conjecture of Simon (in the negative). The potential is of von Neumann-Wigner type, with careful navigation around a previously identified borderline situation.
The theme of doing quantum mechanics on all abelian groups goes back to Schwinger and Weyl. If the group is a vector space of finite dimension over a non-archimedean locally compact division ring, it is of interest to examine the structure of dynamical systems defined by Hamiltonians analogous to those encountered over the field of real numbers. In this letter a path integral formula for the imaginary time propagators of these Hamiltonians is derived.
The Schr\" odinger picture of the Dirac quantum mechanics is defined in charts with spatially flat Robertson-Walker metrics and Cartesian coordinates. The main observables of this picture are identified, including the interacting part of the Hamiltonian operator produced by the minimal coupling with the gravitational field. It is shown that in this approach new Dirac quantum modes on de Sitter spacetimes may be found analytically solving the Dirac equation.
This paper deals with general structural properties of one-dimensional Schr"odinger operators with some absolutely continuous spectrum. The basic result says that the omega limit points of the potential under the shift map are reflectionless on the support of the absolutely continuous part of the spectral measure. This implies an Oracle Theorem for such potentials and Denisov-Rakhmanov type theorems. In the discrete case, for Jacobi operators, these issues were discussed in my recent paper [19]. The treatment of the continuous case in the present paper depends on the same basic ideas.
We establish bounds on the density of states measure for Schrödinger operators. These are deterministic results that do not require the existence of the density of states measure, or, equivalently, of the integrated density of states. The results are stated in terms of a "density of states outer-measure" that always exists, and provides an upper bound for the density of states measure when it exists. We prove log-Hölder continuity for this density of states outer-measure in one, two, and three dimensions for Schrödinger operators, and in any dimension for discrete Schrödinger operators.
In this paper we investigated the point-wise time-space estimates of the fundamental solution for higher order Schrödinger equation. These estimates improve the result of Yao [2] and generalize the one of Cui [1].
The second order $N$-dimensional Schrödinger equation with pseudoharmonic potential is reduced to a first order differential equation by using the Laplace transform approach and exact bound state solutions are obtained using convolution theorem. Some special cases are verified and variation of energy eigenvalues $E_n$ as a function of dimension $N$ are furnished. To give an extra depth of this letter, present approach is also briefly investigated for generalized Morse potential as an example.
We consider a random family of Schrödinger operators on a cover $X$ of a compact Riemannian manifold $M = X/Γ$. We present several results on their spectral theory, in particular almost sure constancy of the spectral components and existence and non-randomness of an integrated density of states. We also sketch a groupoid based general framework which allows to treat basic features of random operators in different contexts in a unified way. Further topics of research are also discussed.
In this paper we obtain approximate bound state solutions of $N$-dimensional fractional time independent Schrödinger equation for generalised Mie-type potential, namely $V(r^α)=\frac{A}{r^{2α}}+\frac{B}{r^α}+C$. Here $α(0<α<1)$ acts like a fractional parameter for the space variable $r$. When $α=1$ the potential converts into the original form of Mie-type of potential that is generally studied in molecular and chemical physics. The entire study is composed with Jumarie type fractional derivative approach. The solution is expressed via Mittag-Leffler function and fractionally defined confluent …
The free Schrödinger equation with mass M can be turned into a non-massive Klein-Gordon equation via Fourier transformation with respect to M. The kinematic symmetry algebra sch_d of the free d-dimensional Schrödinger equation with M fixed appears therefore naturally as a parabolic subalgebra of the complexified conformal algebra conf_d+2 in d+2 dimensions. The explicit classification of the parabolic subalgebras of conf_3 yields physically interesting dynamic symmetry algebras. This allows us to propose a new dynamic symmetry group relevant for the description of ageing far from thermal equil…
In this note we present an algorithm to generate new Schr\" odinger type equations explicitly solvable in terms of orthogonal polynomials or associated special functions.
It is universally accepted that the cubic, nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLS) models the dynamics of narrow-bandwidth wave packets consisting of short dispersive waves, while the Kortewegde Vries equation (KdV) models the propagation of long waves in dispersive media. A system that couples the two equations seems attractive to model the interaction of long and short waves and such a system has been studied over the last few decades. However, questions about the validity of the system in the study of water waves were raised in our previous work where we presented our analysis using the fifth…
We found hermitian realizations of the position vector $\vec{r}$, the angular momentum $\vecΛ$ and the linear momentum $\vec{p}$, all behaving like vectors under the $su_q(2)$ algebra, generated by $L_0$ and $L_\pm$. They are used to introduce a $q$-deformed Schr\" odinger equation. Its solutions for the particular cases of the Coulomb and the harmonic oscillator potentials are given and briefly discussed.
We consider Schrödinger equations with variable coefficients, and it is supposed to be a long-range type perturbation of the flat Laplacian on $R^n$. We characterize the wave front set of solutions to Schrödinger equations in terms of the initial state. Then it is shown that the singularity propagates following the classical flow, and it is formulated in a semiclassical settings. Methods analogous to the long-range scattering theory, in particular a modified free propagator, are employed.
We consider semiclassically scaled Schrodinger equations with an external potential and a highly oscillatory periodic potential. We construct asymptotic solutions in the form of semiclassical wave packets. These solutions are concentrated (both, in space and in frequency) around the effective semiclassical phase-space flow obtained by Peierl's substitution, and involve a slowly varying envelope whose dynamics is governed by a homogenized Schrodinger equation with time-dependent effective mass. The corresponding adiabatic decoupling of the slow and fast degrees of freedom is shown to be valid u…
We consider solutions of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation for a potential localised at the points of a Poisson process. We prove convergence of the phase-space distribution in the annealed Boltzmann-Grad limit to a semiclassical Wigner (or defect) measure and show that it is a solution of the linear Boltzmann equation. Our results hold for a large class of square-integrable initial data associated to Wigner measures, including Langragian states, WKB states and coherent states. This extends important previous work by Eng and Erdős.
We examine time dependent Schrodinger equation with oscillating boundary condition. More specifically, we use separation of variable technique to construct time dependent rationally extended Poschl-Teller potential (whose solutions are given by in terms of X1 Jacobi exceptional orthogonal polynomials) and its supersymmetric partner, namely the Poschl-Teller potential. We have obtained exact solutions of the Schrodinger equation with the above mentioned potentials subjected to some boundary conditions of the oscillating type. A number of physical quantities like the average energy, probabil…
We consider the semiclassical Schrödinger-Poisson system with a special initial data of WKB type such that the solution of the limiting hydrodynamical equation becomes time-global in dimensions at least three. We give an example of such initial data in the focusing case via the analysis of the compressible Euler-Poisson equations. This example is a large data with radial symmetry, and is beyond the reach of the previous results because the phase part decays too slowly. Extending previous results in this direction, we justify the WKB approximation of the solution with this data for an arbitrari…
We study the asymptotic behaviour of solutions to semi-classical nonlinear Schrodinger equations with a potential, for concentrating and oscillating initial data, when the nonlinearity is repulsive and the potential is a polynomial of degree at most two. We describe the separate roles of the nonlinearity and of the potential, with tools which seem to be specific to the class of potentials that we consider. We also discuss the case of more general subquadratic potentials.
We consider the semiclassical Schrödinger equation on a compact negatively curved surface. For any sequence of initial data microlocalized on the unit cotangent bundle, we look at the quantum evolution (below the Ehrenfest time) under small perturbations of the Schrödinger equation, and we prove that, in the semiclassical limit and for typical perturbations, the solutions become equidistributed on the unit cotangent bundle.
We prove that the spectrum of an n-dimensional semiclassical radial Schrödinger operator determines the potential within a large class of potentials for which we assume no symmetry or analyticity. Our proof is based on the first two semiclassical trace invariants and on the isoperimetric inequality.
We present a perturbation analysis of the semiclassical Wigner equation which is based on the interplay between configuration and phase spaces via Wigner transform. We employ the so-called harmonic approximation of the Schrodinger eigenfunctions for single-well potentials in configuration space, to construct an asymptotic expansion of the solution of the Wigner equation. This expansion is a perturbation of the Wigner function of a harmonic oscillator but it is not a genuine semiclassical expansion because the correctors depend on the semiclassical parameter. However, it suggests the selection…
On a compact Riemannian manifold, we study the various dynamical properties of the Schrödinger flow $(e^{itΔ/2})$, through the notion of semiclassical measures and the quantum-classical correspondence between the Schrödinger equation and the geodesic flow. More precisely, we are interested in its high-frequency behavior, as well as its regularizing and unique continuation-type properties. We survey a variety of results illustrating the difference between positive, negative and vanishing curvature.
We consider a Schrödinger operator with a Hermitian 2x2 matrix-valued potential which is lattice periodic and can be diagonalized smoothly on the whole $R^n.$ In the case of potential taking its minimum only on the lattice, we prove that the well-known semiclassical asymptotic of first band spectrum for a scalar potential remains valid for our model.
In this article we study limits of Wigner distributions (the so-called semiclassical measures) corresponding to sequences of solutions to the semiclassical Schroedinger equation at times scales $α_{h}$ tending to infinity as the semiclassical parameter $h$ tends to zero (when $α_{h}=1/h$ this is equivalent to consider solutions to the non-semiclassical Schreodinger equation). Some general results are presented, among which a weak version of Egorov's theorem that holds in this setting. A complete characterization is given for the Euclidean space and Zoll manifolds (that is, manifolds with perio…
We consider the dynamics generated by the Schroedinger operator $H=-{1/2}Δ+ V(x) + W(\epsi x)$, where $V$ is a lattice periodic potential and $W$ an external potential which varies slowly on the scale set by the lattice spacing. We prove that in the limit $\epsi \to 0$ the time dependent position operator and, more generally, semiclassical observables converge strongly to a limit which is determined by the semiclassical dynamics.
We define a Schrödinger operator on the half-space with a discontinuous magnetic field having a piecewise-constant strength and a uniform direction. Motivated by applications in the theory of superconductivity, we study the infimum of the spectrum of the operator. We give sufficient conditions on the strength and the direction of the magnetic field such that the aforementioned infimum is an eigenvalue of a reduced model operator on the half-plane. We use the Schrödinger operator on the half-space to study a new semiclassical problem in bounded domains of the space, considering a magnetic Neuma…
We consider a magnetic Schrödinger operator $H^h$, depending on a semiclassical parameter $h>0$, on a compact Riemannian manifold. We assume that there is no electric field. We suppose that the minimal value $b_0$ of the intensity of the magnetic field $b$ is strictly positive. We give a survey of the results on asymptotic behavior of the eigenvalues of the operator $H^h$ in the semiclassical limit.
We revisit the problem of semiclassical spectral asymptotics for a pure magnetic Schrödinger operator on a two-dimensional Riemannian manifold. We suppose that the minimal value $b_0$ of the intensity of the magnetic field is strictly positive, and the corresponding minimum is unique and non-degenerate. The purpose is to get the control on the spectrum in an interval $(hb_0, h(b_0 +γ_0)]$ for some $γ_0>0$ independent of the semiclassical parameter $h$. The previous papers by Helffer-Mohamed and by Helffer-Kordyukov were only treating the ground-state energy or a finite (independent of $h$) num…
In this article we study the semiclassical spectral measures associated with Schrödinger operators on $R^n$. In particular we compute the first few coefficients of the asymptotic expansions of these measures and, as an application, give an alternative proof of Colin de Verdiere's result on recovering one dimensional potential wells from semiclassical spectral data. We also study the relation of semiclassical spectra measures to Birkhoff normal forms and describe a generalization of the asymptotic expansion above to the Schrödinger operator in the presence of a magnetic field.
We consider the Dirichlet realization of the operator $-h^2Δ+iV$ in the semi-classical limit $h\to0$, where $V$ is a smooth real potential with no critical points. For a one dimensional setting, we obtain the complete asymptotic expansion, in powers of $h$, of each eigenvalue. In two dimensions we obtain the left margin of the spectrum, under some additional conditions.
We study the semi-classical trace formula at a critical energy level for a Schrödinger operator on $\mathbb{R}^{n}$. We assume here that the potential has a totally degenerate critical point associated to a local minimum. The main result, which computes the contribution of this equilibrium, is valid for all time in a compact and establishes the existence of a total asymptotic expansion whose top order coefficient depends only on the germ of the potential at the critical point.
Schr\" odinger-Robertson uncertainty relation is minimized for the quadrature components of Weyl generators of the algebra $su(N)$. This is done by determining explicit Fock-Bargamann representation of the $su(N)$ coherent states and the differential realizations of the elements of $su(N)$. New classes of coherent and squeezed states are explicitly derived.
We study an inverse scattering problem for a pair of Hamiltonians $(H(h), H\_0 (h))$ on $L^2 (\r^n)$, where $H\_0 (h) = -h^2 Δ$ and $H (h)= H\_0 (h) +V$, $V$ is a short-range potential with a regular behaviour at infinity and $h$ is the semiclassical parameter. We show that, in dimension $n \geq 3$, the knowledge of the scattering operators $S(h)$, $h \in ]0, 1]$, up to $O(h^\infty)$ in ${\cal{B}} (L^2(\r^n))$, and which are localized near a fixed energy $λ>0$, determine the potential $V$ at infinity.
Robertson intelligent states which minimize the Schr\" odinger-Robertson uncertainty relation are constructed as eigenstates of a linear combination of Weyl generators of the $su(3)$ algebra. The construction is based on the analytic representations of $su(3)$ coherent states. New classes of coherent and squeezed states are explicitly derived.
