We give a new short proof that the wheeled operad of unimodular Lie algebras is Koszul and use this to explicitly construct its minimal resolution. A representation of this resolution in a finite dimensional vector space V we call a unimodular L-infinity algebra. Such a structure corresponds to a homological vector field on V together with an invariant measure. We present explicit formulae for homotopy transferred structures, define the deformation complex and give a cohomological obstruction to the extension of an arbitrary structure of finite dimensional L-infinity algebra to a structure of unimodular L-infinity algebra.
Quantum Chern-Simons invariants of differentiable manifolds are analyzed from the point of view of homological algebra. Given a manifold M and a Lie (or, more generally, an L-infinity) algebra g, the vector space H^*(M) \otimes g has the structure of an L-infinity algebra whose homotopy type is a homotopy invariant of M. We formulate necessary and sufficient conditions for this L-infinity algebra to have a quantum lift. We also obtain structural results on unimodular L-infinity algebras and introduce a doubling construction which links unimodular and cyclic L-infinity algebras.
Let $A$ be a Poisson Hopf algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. If $A$ is finitely generated and connected graded as an algebra and its Poisson bracket is homogeneous of degree $d \geq 0$, then $A$ is unimodular; that is, the modular derivation of $A$ is zero. This is a Poisson analogue of a recent result concerning Hopf algebras which are connected graded as algebras.
A handlebody-knot is a handlebody embedded in the 3-sphere. We establish a uniform method to construct invariants for handlebody-links. We introduce the category $\mathcal{T}$ of handlebody-tangles and present it by generators and relations. The result tells us that every functor on $\mathcal{T}$ that gives rise to invariants is derived from what we call a quantum-commutative quantum-symmetric algebra in the target category. The example of such algebras of our main concern is finite-dimensional unimodular Hopf algebras. We investigate how those Hopf algebras give rise to handlebody-knot invari…
We define the notion of factorizable quasi-Hopf algebra by using a categorical point of view. We show that the Drinfeld double $D(H)$ of any finite dimensional quasi-Hopf algebra $H$ is factorizable, and we characterize $D(H)$ when $H$ itself is factorizable. Finally, we prove that any finite dimensional factorizable quasi-Hopf algebra is unimodular. In particular, we obtain that the Drinfeld double $D(H)$ is a unimodular quasi-Hopf algebra.
In this paper we study the properties of Drinfeld's twisting for finite-dimensional Hopf algebras. We determine how the integral of the dual to a unimodular Hopf algebra $H$ changes under twisting of $H$. We show that the classes of cosemisimple unimodular, cosemisimple involutive, cosemisimple quasitriangular finite-dimensional Hopf algebras are stable under twisting. We also prove the cosemisimplicity of a coalgebra obtained by twisting of a cosemisimple unimodular Hopf algebra by two different twists on two sides (such twists are closely related to biGalois extensions), and describe the rep…
We find two combinatorial identities on the theta series of the root lattices of the finite-dimensional simple Lie algebras of type $D_{4n}$ and the cosets in their integral duals, in terms of the well-known Essenstein series $E_4(z)$ and Ramanujan series $\Dlt_{24}(z)$. Using these two identities, we determine the theta series of certain infinite families of postive definite even unimodular lattices obtained by gluing finite copies of the root lattices of the finite-dimensional simple Lie algebras of type $D_{2n}$. It turns out that these theta series are weighted symmetric polynomials of two…
In this paper, we introduce the notation of bi-shift of biprojections in subfactor theory to unimodular Kac algebras. We characterize the minimizers of Hirschman-Beckner uncertainty principle and Donoho-Stark uncertainty principle for unimodular Kac algebras with biprojections and prove Hardy's uncertainty principle in terms of minimizers.
In this paper we give some examples of generalized Massey products, arising from deformations of A-infinity and L-infinity algebras. The generalized Massey products are given by certain graded commutative algebra structures, depending on the deformation problem considered. We show that the formal deformations of infinity algebras give rise to the same algebraic structure as the deformations of Z2-graded Lie algebras. However, the problem of deforming a Lie algebra into an L-infinity algebra, or an associative algebra into an A-infinity algebra gives rise to a new algebra. We also consider defo…
We give a categorical setting in which Penrose graphical calculus naturally extends to graphs drawn on the boundary of a handlebody. We use it to introduce invariants of 3-manifolds presented by Heegaard splittings. We recover Kuperberg invariants when the category comes from an involutory Hopf algebra and Turaev-Viro invariants when the category is semi-simple and spherical.
A theory of quasi modules at infinity for (weak) quantum vertex algebras including vertex algebras was previously developed in \cite{li-infinity}. In this current paper, quasi modules at infinity for vertex algebras are revisited. Among the main results, we extend some technical results, to fill in a gap in the proof of a theorem therein, and we obtain a commutator formula for general quasi modules at infinity and establish a version of the converse of the aforementioned theorem.
We define a BV-structure on the Hochschild-cohomology of a unital, associative algebra A with a symmetric, invariant and non-degenerate inner product. The induced Gerstenhaber algebra is the one described in Gerstenhaber's original paper on Hochschild-cohomology. We also prove the corresponding theorem in the homotopy case, namely we define the BV-structure on the Hochschild-cohomology of a unital A-infinity-algebra with a symmetric and non-degenerate infinity-inner product.
Recently, Willwacher showed that the Grothendieck-Teichmuller group GRT acts by L-infinity-automorphisms on the Schouten algebra of polyvector fields T_poly(R^d) on affine space R^d. In this article, we prove that a large class of L-infinity-automorphisms on the Schouten algebra, including Willwacher's, can be globalized. That is, given an L-infinity-automorphism of T_poly(R^d) and a general smooth manifold M with the choice of a torsion-free connection, we give an explicit construction of an L-infinity-automorphism of the Schouten algebra T_poly(M) on the manifold M, depending on the chosen c…
We study the L-infinity-formality problem for the Hochschild complex of the universal enveloping algebra of some examples of Lie algebras such as Cartan-3-regular quadratic Lie algebras (for example semisimple Lie algebras and in more detail so(3)), and free Lie algebras generated by a vector space of dimension at least 2. We show that for these examples formality in Kontsevich's sense does NOT hold, although some of them allow unconditioned deformability. We compute the L-infinity-structure on the cohomology given by homotopy transfer in certain cases.
Let $\mathcal{C}$ be a finite tensor category with simple unit object, let $\mathcal{Z}(\mathcal{C})$ denote its monoidal center, and let $L$ and $R$ be a left adjoint and a right adjoint of the forgetful functor $U: \mathcal{Z}(\mathcal{C}) \to \mathcal{C}$. We show that the following conditions are equivalent: (1) $\mathcal{C}$ is unimodular, (2) $U$ is a Frobenius functor, (3) $L$ preserves the duality, (4) $R$ preserves the duality, (5) $L(1)$ is self-dual, and (6) $R(1)$ is self-dual, where $1 \in \mathcal{C}$ is the unit object. We also give some other equivalent conditions. As an applic…
We define and study the cohomology theories associated to A-infinity algebras and cyclic A-infinity algebras equipped with an involution, generalising dihedral cohomology to the A-infinity context. Such algebras arise, for example, as unoriented versions of topological conformal field theories. It is well known that Hochschild cohomology and cyclic cohomology govern, in a precise sense, the deformation theory of A-infinity algebras and cyclic A-infinity algebras and we give analogous results for the deformation theory in the presence of an involution. We also briefly discuss generalisations of…
In this article, we give a method of calculating the automorphism groups of the vertex operator algebras $V_L^+$ associated with even lattices $L$. For example, by using this method we determine the automorphism groups of $V_L^+$ for even lattices of rank one, two and three, and even unimodular lattices.
An A-infinity algebra is a generalization of a associative algebra, and an L-infinity algebra is a generalization of a Lie algebra. In this paper, we show that an L-infinity algebra with an invariant inner product determines a cycle in the homology of the complex of metric ordinary graphs. Since the cyclic cohomology of a Lie algebra with an invariant inner product determines infinitesimal deformations of the Lie algebra into an L-infinity algebra with an invariant inner product, this construction shows that a cyclic cocycle of a Lie algebra determines a cycle in the homology of the graph comp…
An A-infinity algebra is given by a codifferential on the tensor coalgebra of a (graded) vector space. An associative algebra is a special case of an A-infinity algebra, determined by a quadratic codifferential. The notions of Hochschild and cyclic cohomology generalize from associative to A-infinity algebras, and classify the infinitesimal deformations of the algebra, and those deformations preserving an invariant inner product, respectively. Similarly, an L-infinity algebra is given by a codifferential on the exterior coalgebra of a vector space, with Lie algebras being special cases given b…
We introduce a notion of Koszul A-infinity algebra that generalizes Priddy's notion of a Koszul algebra and we use it to construct small A-infinity algebra models for Hochschild cochains. As an application, this yields new techniques for computing free loop space homology algebras of manifolds that are either formal or coformal (over a field or over the integers). We illustrate these techniques in two examples.
An associative algebra is nothing but an odd quadratic codifferential on the tensor coalgebra of a vector space, and an A-infinity algebra is simply an arbitrary odd codifferential. Hochschild cohomology classifies the deformations of an associative algebra into an A-infinity algebra, and cyclic cohomology in the presence of an invariant inner product classifies the deformations of the associative algebra into an A-infinity algebra preserving the inner product. Similarly, a graded Lie algebra is simply a special case of an odd codifferential on the exterior coalgebra of a vector space, and an …
We compare two approaches to the calculation of irreducible characters of the Lie algebra gl(infinity)^ with negative integral central charge. As a consequence, we obtain a "reciprocity formula" for Clebsch-Gordan coefficients, in the limit when the central charge tends to infinity.
We construct four families of Artin-Schelter regular algebras of global dimension four. Under some generic conditions, this is a complete list of Artin-Schelter regular algebras of global dimension four that are generated by two elements of degree 1. These algebras are also strongly noetherian, Auslander regular and Cohen-Macaulay. One of the main tools is Keller's higher-multiplication theorem on A-infinity Ext-algebras.
We prove that, for every compact Kaehler manifold, the period map of its Kuranishi family is induced by a natural L-infinity morphism. This implies, by standard facts about L-infinity algebras, that the period map is a "morphism of deformation theories" and then commutes with all deformation theoretic constructions (e.g. obstructions).
In this article we study extensions of Z_2-graded L_infinity algebras on a vector space of two even and one odd dimension. In particular, we determine all extensions of a super Lie algebra as an L_infinity algebra. Our convention on the parities is the opposite of the usual one, because we define our structures on the symmetric coalgebra of the parity reversion of a space.
In this notes, we study some basic deformation of A-infinity algebra. It includes a two-dimensional rescaling deformation and the Maurer-Cartan element or bounding cochain deformation used in Lagrangian Floer Homology theory. We show that such deformation always can be derived from some (weakly) strict endomorphism equivalently.
Given an associative graded algebra equipped with a degree +1 differential we define an A-infinity structure that measures the failure of the differential to be a derivation. This can be seen as a non-commutative analog of generalized BV-algebras. In that spirit we introduce a notion of associative order for the differential and prove that it satisfies properties similar to the commutative case. In particular when it has associative order 2 the new product is a strictly associative product of degree +1 and there is a compatibility between the products, similar to ordinary BV-algebras. We consi…
We construct the deformation functor associated with a pair of morphisms of differential graded Lie algebras, and use it to study infinitesimal deformations of holomorphic maps of compact complex manifolds. In particular, using L-infinity structures, we give an explicit description of the differential graded Lie algebra that controls this problem.
We consider versal deformations of 0|3-dimensional L-infinity algebras, which correspond precisely to ordinary (non-graded) three dimensional Lie algebras. The classification of such algebras over C is well known, although we shall give a derivation of this classification using an approach of treating them as L-infinity algebras. Because the symmetric algebra of a three dimensional odd vector space contains terms only of exterior degree less than or equal to three, the construction of versal deformations can be carried out completely. We give a characterization of the moduli space of Lie algeb…
This article explores some simple examples of L-infinity algebras and the construction of miniversal deformations of these structures. Among other things, it is shown that there are two families of nonequivalent L-infinity structures on a 1|1 dimensional vector space, two of which are Lie algebra structures. The main purpose of this work is to provide a simple effective procedure for constructing miniversal deformations, using the examples to illustrate the general technique. The same method can be applied directly to construct versal deformations of Lie algebras.
To any manifold equipped with a higher degree closed form, one can associate an L-infinity algebra of local observables that generalizes the Poisson algebra of a symplectic manifold. Here, by means of an explicit homotopy equivalence, we interpret this L-infinity algebra in terms of infinitesimal autoequivalences of higher prequantum bundles. By truncating the connection data on the prequantum bundle, we produce analogues of the (higher) Lie algebras of sections of the Atiyah Lie algebroid and of the Courant Lie 2-algebroid. We also exhibit the L-infinity cocycle that realizes the L-infinity a…
In this paper we study a natural extension of Kontsevich's characteristic class construction for A-infinity and L-infinity algebras to the case of curved algebras. These define homology classes on a variant of his graph homology which allows vertices of valence >0. We compute this graph homology, which is governed by star-shaped graphs with odd-valence vertices. We also classify nontrivially curved cyclic A-infinity and L-infinity algebras over a field up to gauge equivalence, and show that these are essentially reduced to algebras of dimension at most two with only even-ary operations. We app…
The purpose of this paper is to establish an explicit correspondence between various geometric structures on a vector bundle with some well-known algebraic structures such as Gerstenhaber algebras and BV-algebras. Some applications are discussed. In particular, we found an explicit connection between the Koszul-Brylinski operator of a Poisson manifold and its modular class. As a consequence, we prove that Poisson homology is isomorphic to Poisson cohomology for unimodular Poisson structures.
