In this paper we show that the map % $$\partial:CH^2(E_1 \times E_2,1)\otimes \Q \longrightarrow PCH^1(\XX_v)$$ % is surjective, where $E_1$ and $E_2$ are two non-isogenous semistable elliptic curves over a local field, $CH^2(E_1 \times E_2,1)$ is one of Bloch's higher Chow groups and $PCH^1(\XX_v)$ is a certain subquotient of a Chow group of the special fibre $\XX_{v}$ of a semi-stable model $\XX$ of $E_1 \times E_2$. On one hand, this can be viewed as a non-Archimedean analogue of the Hodge-$\D$-conjecture of Beilinson - which is known to be true in this case by the work of Chen and Lewis \cite{lech}, and on the other, an analogue of the works of Speiß \cite{spie}, Mildenhall \cite{mild} and Flach \cite{flac} in the case when the elliptic curves have split multiplicative reduction.
We study the tropical Dolbeault cohomology of non-archimedean curves as defined by Chambert-Loir and Ducros. We give a precise condition for when this cohomology satisfies Poincaré duality. The condition is always satisfied when the residue field of the non-archimedean base field is the algebraic closure of a finite field. We also show that for curves over fields where the residue field is the field of complex numbers, the tropical (1,1)-Dolbeault cohomology can be infinite dimensional. Our main new ingredient is an exponential type sequence that relates tropical Dolbeault cohomology to the co…
We construct new indecomposable elements in the higher Chow group CH2(A,1) of a principally polarized Abelian surface over a non Archimedean local field, which generalize an element constructed by Collino. These elements are constructed using a generalization, due to Birkenhake and Wilhelm, of a classical construction of Humbert, along with some recent work of Bogomolov, Hassett and Tschinkel on deformations of rational curves on a K3 surface. They can be used to prove the non-Archimedean Hodge-D-conjecture - namely, the surjectivity of the boundary map in the localization sequence - in the ca…
In this short note, we deduce the classical Néron--Ogg--Shafarevich criterion on good reduction of abelian varieties from its archimedean analogue: a holomorphic family of abelian varieties over a punctured disc extends to the whole unit disc if and only if the topological monodromy representation is trivial.
Let $K$ be an algebraically closed, complete, non-Archimedean valued field of characteristic zero, and let $\mathscr{X}$ be a $K$-analytic space (in the sense of Huber). In this work, we pursue a non-Archimedean characterization of Campana's notion of specialness. We say $\mathscr{X}$ is $K$-analytically special if there exists a connected, finite type algebraic group $G/K$, a dense open subset $\mathscr{U}\subset G^{\text{an}}$ with $\text{codim}(G^{\text{an}}\setminus \mathscr{U}) \geq 2$, and an analytic morphism $\mathscr{U} \to \mathscr{X}$ which is Zariski dense. With this definition, we…
We consider an Archimedean analogue of Tate's conjecture, and verify the conjecture in the examples of isospectral Riemann surfaces constructed by Vigneras and Sunada. We also enunciate a simple lemma in group theory which lies at the heart of T. Sunada's theorem about isospectral manifolds.
We define an analogue of the `Real' Deligne cohomology group at a prime of semi-stable or good reduction of a variety. We also define regulator maps to this group and formulate a conjecture about the image. This allows us to formulate a non-Archimedian version of Beilinson's Hodge-D-conjecture, S-integral and function field versions of Beilinson's global conjectures as well as a precise special value conjecture in the function field case. Finally we give a few examples where these conjectures are known to be true.
We prove a non-archimedean analogue of the fact that a closed subvariety of a semi-abelian variety is hyperbolic modulo its special locus, and thereby generalize a result of Cherry.
We formulate and study a torsion analogue of the weight-monodromy conjecture for a proper smooth scheme over a non-archimedean local field. We prove it for proper smooth schemes over equal characteristic non-archimedean local fields, abelian varieties, surfaces, varieties uniformized by Drinfeld upper half spaces, and set-theoretic complete intersections in toric varieties. In the equal characteristic case, our methods rely on an ultraproduct variant of Weil II established by Cadoret.
Inspired by the work of Cherry, we introduce and study a new notion of Brody hyperbolicity for rigid analytic varieties over a non-archimedean field $K$ of characteristic zero. We use this notion of hyperbolicity to show the following algebraic statement: if a projective variety admits a non-constant morphism from an abelian variety, then so does any specialization of it. As an application of this result, we show that the moduli space of abelian varieties is $K$-analytically Brody hyperbolic in equal characteristic zero. These two results are predicted by the Green-Griffiths-Lang conjecture on…
Let k be an algebraically closed field complete with respect to a non-Archimedean absolute value of arbitrary characteristic. Let D_1,...,D_n be effective nef divisors intersecting transversally in an n-dimensional nonsingular projective variety X. We study the degeneracy of non-Archimedean analytic maps from k into $X\setminus \cup_{i=1}^nD_i$ under various geometric conditions. When X is a rational ruled surface and D_1 and D_2 are ample, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition such that there is no non-Archimedean analytic map from k into $X\setminus D_1 \cup D_2$. Using a dictionary…
We prove a formula expressing the motivic integral (\cite{ls}) of a K3 surface over $\bC((t))$ with semi-stable reduction in terms of the associated limit Hodge structure. Secondly, for every smooth variety over a non-archimedean field we define an analogue of the monodromy pairing, constructed by Grothendieck in the case of Abelian varieties, and prove that our monodromy pairing is a birational invariant of the variety. Finally, we propose a conjectural formula for the motivic integral of maximally degenerated K3 surfaces over an arbitrary non-archimedean field and prove this conjecture for K…
Given an integral p-adic variety, we observe that if the integral Hodge--de Rham spectral sequence behaves nicely, then the special fiber knows the Hodge numbers of the generic fiber. Applying recent advancements of integral p-adic Hodge theory, we show that such a nice behavior is guaranteed if the p-adic variety can be lifted to an analogue of second Witt vectors and satisfies some bound on dimension and ramification index. This is a (ramified) mixed characteristic analogue of results due to Deligne--Illusie and Fontaine--Messing. Lastly, we discuss an example illustrating the necessity of t…
Let $E$ be an elliptic curve over an algebraically closed, complete, non-archimedean field $K$, and let ${\mathsf E}$ denote the Berkovich analytic space associated to $E/K$. We study the $μ$-equidistribution of finite subsets of $E(K)$, where $μ$ is a certain canonical unit Borel measure on ${\mathsf E}$. Our main result is an inequality bounding the error term when testing against a certain class of continuous functions on ${\mathsf E}$. We then give two applications to elliptic curves over global function fields: we prove a function field analogue of the Szpiro-Ullmo-Zhang equidistribution …
We prove equidistribution of Weierstrass points on Berkovich curves. Let $X$ be a smooth proper curve of positive genus over a complete algebraically closed non-Archimedean field $K$ of equal characteristic zero with a non-trivial valuation. Let $L$ be a line bundle of positive degree on $X$. The Weierstrass points of powers of $L$ are equidistributed according to the Zhang-Arakelov measure on the analytification $X^{an}$. This provides a non-Archimedean analogue of a theorem of Mumford and Neeman. Along the way we provide a description of the reduction of Weierstrass points, answering a quest…
We show that a continuous function on the analytification of a smooth proper algebraic curve over a non-archimedean field is subharmonic in the sense of Thuillier if and only if it is psh, i.e. subharmonic in the sense of Chambert-Loir and Ducros. This equivalence implies that the property psh for continuous functions is stable under pullback with respect to morphisms of curves. Furthermore, we prove an analogue of the monotone regularization theorem on the analytification of the projective line and Mumford curves using this equivalence.
We prove an analogue of the Yomdin-Gromov Lemma for $p$-adic definable sets and more broadly in a non-archimedean, definable context. This analogue keeps track of piecewise approximation by Taylor polynomials, a nontrivial aspect in the totally disconnected case. We apply this result to bound the number of rational points of bounded height on the transcendental part of $p$-adic subanalytic sets, and to bound the dimension of the set of complex polynomials of bounded degree lying on an algebraic variety defined over $\mathbb{C} ((t))$, in analogy to results by Pila and Wilkie, resp. by Bombieri…
When $p>2$, we construct a Hodge-type analogue of Rapoport-Zink spaces under the unramifiedness assumption, as formal schemes parametrising "deformations" (up to quasi-isogeny) of $p$-divisible groups with certain crystalline Tate tensors. We also define natural rigid analytic towers with expected extra structure, providing more examples of "local Shimura varieties" conjectured by Rapoport and Viehmann.
Faltings initiated in 2005 a p-adic analogue of the (complex) Simpson correspondence whose construction has been taken up by various authors, according to several approaches. Following the one we initiated previously, we present an overview of a new monograph developing new features of the p-adic Simpson correspondence, inspired by our construction of the relative Hodge-Tate spectral sequence. First, we address the connection to Hodge-Tate local systems. Second, we establish the functoriality of the p-adic Simpson correspondence by proper direct image. Along the way, we expand the scope of our…
We provide a framework for studying the dynamics of families of one-variable rational functions parametrized by Berkovich spaces over a complete non-archimedean field. We prove a non-archimedean analogue of Mañé, Sad, and Sullivan's $λ$-Lemma and use this to show an equivalence of two stability conditions for families of rational functions parametrized by an open subset of the Berkovich affine line.
We formulate an analogue of the archimedean motivic action conjecture of Prasanna--Venkatesh for irregular cohomological automorphic forms on Shimura varieties, which appear on multiple degrees of coherent cohomology of Shimura varieties. Such multiple appearances are due to many infinity types in a single $L$-packet with equal minimal $K$-types. Accordingly, we formulate the conjecture comparing periods of forms of different automorphic representations. We provide evidences for the conjecture by showing its compatibility with existing conjectures on periods of automorphic forms. The conjectur…
In previous papers we formulated an analogue of the Ichino--Ikeda conjectures for Whittaker--Fourier coefficients of automorphic forms on classical group and the metaplectic group. In the latter case we reduced the conjecture to a local identity. In this paper we will prove the local identity in the $p$-adic case, and hence the global conjecture under simplifying conditions at the archimedean places.
I construct a generalisation of Mantovan's almost product structure to Shimura varieties of Hodge type with hyperspecial level structure at $p$ and deduce that the perfection of the Newton strata are pro-étale locally isomorphic to the perfection of the product of a central leaf and a Rapoport-Zink space. The almost product formula can be extended to obtain an analogue of Caraiani's and Scholze's generalisation of the almost product structure for Shimura varieties of Hodge type.
Let $k$ be a local field with valuation ring $O_k$ and residue field $\overline{k}$. We extend Hahn--Banach theorem for the class of seminormed $k$-vector spaces to several classes of locally convex spaces and subspaces over $k$, $O_k$, and $\overline{k}$. We establish analogues of Iwasawa-type duality for several classes of locally convex spaces over $k$, $O_k$, and $\overline{k}$.
We construct a rigid analytical regulator for the K_2 of Mumford curves, a non-archimedean analogue of the complex analytical Beilinson-Bloch-Deligne regulator.
The aim of this contribution is to bring together the areas of $p$-adic analysis and nonstandard analysis. We develop a nonstandard measure theory with values in a complete non-Archimedean valued field $K$, e.g. the $p-$adic numbers $\mathbb{Q}_p$. The corresponding theory for real-valued measures is well known by the work of P. A. Loeb, R. M. Anderson and others. We first review some of the standard facts on non-Archimedean measures and briefly sketch the prerequisites from nonstandard analysis. Then internal measures on rings and algebras with values in a nonstandard field ${^*K}$ are introd…
We study the homology and the Borel-Moore homology with coefficients in $\mathbb{Q}$ of a quotient (called arithmetic quotient) of the Bruhat-Tits building of $\mathrm{PGL}$ of a nonarchimedean local field of positive characteristic by an arithmetic subgroup (a special case of the general definition in Harder's article (Invent.\ Math.\ 42, 135-175 (1977)). We define an analogue of modular symbols in this context and show that the image of the canonical map from homology to Borel-Moore homology is contained in the sub $\mathbb{Q}$-vector space generated by the modular symbols. By definition, th…
