We consider an Archimedean analogue of Tate's conjecture, and verify the conjecture in the examples of isospectral Riemann surfaces constructed by Vigneras and Sunada. We also enunciate a simple lemma in group theory which lies at the heart of T. Sunada's theorem about isospectral manifolds.
In this short note, we deduce the classical Néron--Ogg--Shafarevich criterion on good reduction of abelian varieties from its archimedean analogue: a holomorphic family of abelian varieties over a punctured disc extends to the whole unit disc if and only if the topological monodromy representation is trivial.
Under certain assumptions, we prove an anticyclotomic analogue of the "weak main conjecture" à la Mazur and Tate for modular forms over a large class of cyclic ring class extensions.
We prove an analogue of the Sato-Tate conjecture for Drinfeld modules. Using ideas of Drinfeld, J.-K. Yu showed that Drinfeld modules satisfy some Sato-Tate law, but did not describe the actual law. More precisely, for a Drinfeld module ϕdefined over a field L, he constructs a continuous representation ρ_\infty : W_L \to D^* of the Weil group of L into a certain division algebra, which encodes the Sato-Tate law. When the Drinfeld module has generic characteristic and L is finitely generated, we shall describe the image of this representation up to commensurability. As an application, we give i…
We study the Fitting ideals over the finite layers of the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $\mathbb{Q}$ of Selmer groups attached to the Rankin--Selberg convolution of two modular forms $f$ and $g$. Inspired by the Theta elements for modular forms defined by Mazur and Tate in ``Refined conjectures of the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer type'', we define new Theta elements for Rankin--Selberg convolutions of $f$ and $g$ using Loeffler--Zerbes' geometric $p$-adic $L$-functions attached to $f$ and $g$. Under certain technical hypotheses, we generalize a recent work of Kim--Kurihara on elliptic cu…
Let $F$ be a non-Archimedean local field with residue field $k$ of odd characteristic, and let $B/F$ be the division algebra of rank 4. We explicitly construct a stable curve $\mathfrak{X}$ over the algebraic closure of $k$ admitting an action of $GL_2(F)\times B^\times \times W_F$ which realizes the Jacquet-Langlands correspondence and the local Langlands correspondence in its cohomology.
Let k be an algebraically closed field complete with respect to a non-Archimedean absolute value of arbitrary characteristic. Let D_1,...,D_n be effective nef divisors intersecting transversally in an n-dimensional nonsingular projective variety X. We study the degeneracy of non-Archimedean analytic maps from k into $X\setminus \cup_{i=1}^nD_i$ under various geometric conditions. When X is a rational ruled surface and D_1 and D_2 are ample, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition such that there is no non-Archimedean analytic map from k into $X\setminus D_1 \cup D_2$. Using a dictionary…
Mazur and Tate proposed a conjecture which compares the Mordell-Weil rank of an elliptic curve over $\mathbb{Q}$ with the order of vanishing of Mazur-Tate elements, which are analogues of Stickelberger elements. Under some relatively mild assumptions, we prove this conjecture. Our strategy of the proof is to study divisibility of certain derivatives of Kato's Euler system.
We prove a natural analogue of the Sato-Tate conjecture for modular forms of weight 2 or 3 whose associated automorphic representations are a twist of the Steinberg representation at some finite place.
Let L be a non-archimedean local field of characteristic 0. We present a variant of the theory of (ϕ,Γ)-modules associated with Lubin-Tate groups, developed by Kisin and Ren [Ki-Re], in which we replace the Lubin-Tate tower by the maximal abelian extension Γ= Gal(L^ab/L). This variation allows us to compute the functors of induction and restriction for (ϕ,Γ)-modules, when the ground field L changes. We also give a self-contained account of the Cherbonnier-Colmez theorem on overconvergence in our setting.
We prove an analogue of the Brauer-Siegel theorem for the Legendre elliptic curves over $\mathbb{F}_q(t)$. More precisely, if $d$ is an integer coprime to $q$, we denote by $E_d$ the elliptic curve with model $y^2=x(x+1)(x+t^d)$ over $K=\mathbb{F}_q(t)$. We give an asymptotic estimate of the product of the order of the Tate-Shafarevich group of $E_d$ (which is known to be finite) with its Néron-Tate regulator, in terms of the exponential differential height of $E_d$, as $d\to\infty$.
In 1995, Ehud de Shalit proved an analogue of a conjecture of Mazur--Tate for the modular Jacobian $J_0(p)$. His main result was valid away from the Eisenstein primes. We complete the work of de Shalit by including the Eisenstein primes, and give some applications such as an elementary combinatorial identity involving discrete logarithms of difference of supersingular $j$-invariants. An important tool is our recent work on the so called "generalized cuspidal $1$-motive".
Let $K$ be an algebraically closed, complete, non-Archimedean valued field of characteristic zero, and let $\mathscr{X}$ be a $K$-analytic space (in the sense of Huber). In this work, we pursue a non-Archimedean characterization of Campana's notion of specialness. We say $\mathscr{X}$ is $K$-analytically special if there exists a connected, finite type algebraic group $G/K$, a dense open subset $\mathscr{U}\subset G^{\text{an}}$ with $\text{codim}(G^{\text{an}}\setminus \mathscr{U}) \geq 2$, and an analytic morphism $\mathscr{U} \to \mathscr{X}$ which is Zariski dense. With this definition, we…
In this paper we show that the map % $$\partial:CH^2(E_1 \times E_2,1)\otimes \Q \longrightarrow PCH^1(\XX_v)$$ % is surjective, where $E_1$ and $E_2$ are two non-isogenous semistable elliptic curves over a local field, $CH^2(E_1 \times E_2,1)$ is one of Bloch's higher Chow groups and $PCH^1(\XX_v)$ is a certain subquotient of a Chow group of the special fibre $\XX_{v}$ of a semi-stable model $\XX$ of $E_1 \times E_2$. On one hand, this can be viewed as a non-Archimedean analogue of the Hodge-$\D$-conjecture of Beilinson - which is known to be true in this case by the work of Chen and Lewis \c…
We construct new indecomposable elements in the higher Chow group CH2(A,1) of a principally polarized Abelian surface over a non Archimedean local field, which generalize an element constructed by Collino. These elements are constructed using a generalization, due to Birkenhake and Wilhelm, of a classical construction of Humbert, along with some recent work of Bogomolov, Hassett and Tschinkel on deformations of rational curves on a K3 surface. They can be used to prove the non-Archimedean Hodge-D-conjecture - namely, the surjectivity of the boundary map in the localization sequence - in the ca…
We prove a non-archimedean analogue of the fact that a closed subvariety of a semi-abelian variety is hyperbolic modulo its special locus, and thereby generalize a result of Cherry.
We formulate and study a torsion analogue of the weight-monodromy conjecture for a proper smooth scheme over a non-archimedean local field. We prove it for proper smooth schemes over equal characteristic non-archimedean local fields, abelian varieties, surfaces, varieties uniformized by Drinfeld upper half spaces, and set-theoretic complete intersections in toric varieties. In the equal characteristic case, our methods rely on an ultraproduct variant of Weil II established by Cadoret.
Let $E$ be an elliptic curve over $\mathbb{Q}$. Let $\underline{III}(E)$ be a certain group of equivalence classes of homogeneous spaces of $E$ called its Tate-Shafarevich group. We show in this paper that this group has finite cardinality and discuss its role in the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer Conjecture. In particular, our result implies the Parity Conjecture, or the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer Conjecture modulo 2. It also removes the finiteness condition of $\underline{III}(E)$ from previous results in the literature of this subject and makes possible for some computation problems concerning th…
Mazur, Tate, and Teitelbaum gave a p-adic analogue of the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture for elliptic curves. We provide a generalization of their conjecture in the good ordinary case to higher dimensional modular abelian varieties over the rationals by constructing the p-adic L-function of a modular abelian variety and showing that it satisfies the appropriate interpolation property. This relies on a careful normalization of the p-adic L-function, which we achieve by a comparison of periods. Our generalization agrees with the conjecture of Mazur, Tate, Teitelbaum in dimension 1 and the …
In previous papers we formulated an analogue of the Ichino--Ikeda conjectures for Whittaker--Fourier coefficients of automorphic forms on classical group and the metaplectic group. In the latter case we reduced the conjecture to a local identity. In this paper we will prove the local identity in the $p$-adic case, and hence the global conjecture under simplifying conditions at the archimedean places.
We prove an analogue of the Yomdin-Gromov Lemma for $p$-adic definable sets and more broadly in a non-archimedean, definable context. This analogue keeps track of piecewise approximation by Taylor polynomials, a nontrivial aspect in the totally disconnected case. We apply this result to bound the number of rational points of bounded height on the transcendental part of $p$-adic subanalytic sets, and to bound the dimension of the set of complex polynomials of bounded degree lying on an algebraic variety defined over $\mathbb{C} ((t))$, in analogy to results by Pila and Wilkie, resp. by Bombieri…
Faltings initiated in 2005 a p-adic analogue of the (complex) Simpson correspondence whose construction has been taken up by various authors, according to several approaches. Following the one we initiated previously, we present an overview of a new monograph developing new features of the p-adic Simpson correspondence, inspired by our construction of the relative Hodge-Tate spectral sequence. First, we address the connection to Hodge-Tate local systems. Second, we establish the functoriality of the p-adic Simpson correspondence by proper direct image. Along the way, we expand the scope of our…
We describe the analogue of the Sato-Tate conjecture for an abelian variety over a number field; this predicts that the zeta functions of the reductions over various finite fields, when properly normalized, have a limiting distribution predicted by a certain group-theoretic construction related to Hodge theory, Galois images, and endomorphisms. After making precise the definition of the "Sato-Tate group" appearing in this conjecture, we describe the classification of Sato-Tate groups of abelian surfaces due to Fite-Kedlaya-Rotger-Sutherland. (These are notes from a three-lecture series present…
We compute the rational homotopy groups of the $K(n)$-local sphere for all heights $n$ and all primes $p$, verifying a prediction that goes back to the pioneering work of Morava in the early 1970s. More precisely, we show that the inclusion of the Witt vectors into the Lubin-Tate ring induces a split injection on continuous stabilizer cohomology with torsion cokernel of bounded exponent, thereby proving Hopkins' chromatic splitting conjecture and the vanishing conjecture of Beaudry-Goerss-Henn rationally. The key ingredients are the equivalence between the Lubin-Tate tower and the Drinfeld tow…
We define an analogue of the `Real' Deligne cohomology group at a prime of semi-stable or good reduction of a variety. We also define regulator maps to this group and formulate a conjecture about the image. This allows us to formulate a non-Archimedian version of Beilinson's Hodge-D-conjecture, S-integral and function field versions of Beilinson's global conjectures as well as a precise special value conjecture in the function field case. Finally we give a few examples where these conjectures are known to be true.
We formulate an analogue of the archimedean motivic action conjecture of Prasanna--Venkatesh for irregular cohomological automorphic forms on Shimura varieties, which appear on multiple degrees of coherent cohomology of Shimura varieties. Such multiple appearances are due to many infinity types in a single $L$-packet with equal minimal $K$-types. Accordingly, we formulate the conjecture comparing periods of forms of different automorphic representations. We provide evidences for the conjecture by showing its compatibility with existing conjectures on periods of automorphic forms. The conjectur…
We investigate boundedness results for families of holomorphic symplectic varieties up to birational equivalence. We prove the analogue of Zarhin's trick by for $K3$ surfaces by constructing big line bundles of low degree on certain moduli spaces of stable sheaves, and proving birational versions of Matsusaka's big theorem for holomorphic symplectic varieties. As a consequence of these results, we give a new geometric proof of the Tate conjecture for $K3$ surfaces over finite fields of characteristic at least $5$, and a simple proof of the Tate conjecture for $K3$ surfaces with Picard number a…
We prove an analogue of the Tate isogeny conjecture and the semi-simplicity conjecture for overconvergent crystalline Dieudonné modules of abelian varieties defined over global function fields of characteristic $p$. As a corollary we deduce that monodromy groups of such overconvergent crystalline Dieudonné modules are reductive, and after a finite base change of coefficients their connected components are the same as the connected components of monodromy groups of Galois representations on the corresponding $l$-adic Tate modules, for $l$ different from $p$. We also show such a result for gener…
We give applications of integral canonical models of orthogonal Shimura varieties and the Kuga-Satake morphism to the arithmetic of K3 surfaces over finite fields. We prove every K3 surface of finite height over a finite field admits a characteristic 0 lifting whose generic fiber is a K3 surface with complex multiplication. Combined with the results of Mukai and Buskin, we prove the Tate conjecture for the square of a K3 surface over a finite field. To obtain these results, we construct an analogue of Kisin's algebraic group for a K3 surface of finite height, and construct characteristic 0 lif…
In this paper, we study an analogue of the Tate conjecture for $K_2$ of U, the complement of split multiplicative fibers in an elliptic surface. A main result is to give an upper bound of the rank of the Galois fixed part of the etale cohomology $H^2(\bar{U},Q_p(2))$. As an application, we give an elliptic K3 surface $X$ over a p-adic field for which the torsion part of the Chow group $CH_0(X)$ of 0-cycles is finite. This would be the first example of a surface $X$ over a p-adic field whose geometric genus is non-zero and for which the torsion part of $CH_0(X)$ is finite.
We prove an analogue of the Tate conjecture on homomorphisms of abelian varieties over infinite cyclotomic extensions of finitely generated fields of characteristic zero.
For a weight two modular form and a good prime $p$, we construct a vector of Iwasawa functions $(L_p^\sharp,L_p^\flat)$. In the elliptic curve case, we use this vector to put the $p$-adic analogues of the conjectures of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer for ordinary [MTT] and supersingular [BPR] primes on one footing. Looking at $L_p^\sharp$ and $L_p^\flat$ individually leads to a stronger conjecture containing an extra zero phenomenon. We also give an explicit upper bound for the analytic rank in the cyclotomic direction and an asymptotic formula for the $p$-part of the analytic size of the Šafarevič…
In his 1982 paper, Ogus defined a class of cycles in the de Rham cohomology of smooth proper varieties over number fields. This notion is a crystalline analogue of $\ell$-adic Tate cycles. In the case of abelian varieties, this class includes all the Hodge cycles by the work of Deligne, Ogus, and Blasius. Ogus predicted that such cycles coincide with Hodge cycles for abelian varieties. In this paper, we confirm Ogus' prediction for some families of abelian varieties. These families include abelian varieties that have both prime dimension and nontrivial endomorphism ring. The proof is based on …
We study analogues of Tate's conjecture on homomorphisms for abelian varieties when the ground field is finitely generated over an algebraic closure of a finite field. Our results cover the case of abelian varieties without nontrivial endomorphisms.
We formulate an analogue of the conjecture of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer for Abelian schemes with everywhere good reduction over higher dimensional bases over finite fields of characteristic $p$. We prove the prime-to-$p$ part conditionally on the finiteness of the $p$-primary part of the Tate-Shafarevich group or the equality of the analytic and the algebraic rank. If the base is a product of curves, Abelian varieties and K3 surfaces, we prove the prime-to-$p$ part of the conjecture for constant or isoconstant Abelian schemes, in particular the prime-to-$p$ part for (1) relative elliptic curve…
