When $n$ is odd, a cohomology of type Hochschild for $n$-ary partially associative algebras has been defined in Gnedbaye's thesis. Unfortunately, the cohomology definition is not valid when $n$ is even. This fact is found again in the computations of the $n$-ary partially associative free algebra.
In this work, we define in a first time two approachs of an Hochschild cohomology for $n$-ary partially associative algebras. First by reducing the space of cochains, secondly by using a graded version. Next we compute the free $n$-ary algebra, giving a basis of this algebra. At last we extend the notion of coalgebras to $n$-ary algebras.
The (co)associative, partially (co)associative and totally (co)associative $3$-ary (co) algebras and infinitesimal bialgebras are constructed and discussed. Their trimodules and matched pairs are defined and completely characterized. The main structural properties and relations are also deduced and analyzed.
The aim of this paper is to introduce $n$-ary BiHom-algebras, generalizing BiHom-algebras. We introduce an alternative concept of BiHom-Lie algebra called BiHom-Lie-Leibniz algebra and study various type of $n$-ary BiHom-Lie algebras and BiHom-associative algebras. We show that $n$-ary BiHom-Lie-Leibniz algebra can be represented by BiHom-Lie-Leibniz algebra through fundamental objets. Moreover, we provide some key constructions and study $n$-ary BiHom-Lie algebras induced by $(n-1)$-ary BiHom-Lie algebras.
We present coalgebras of some classes of nonassociative algebras whose associator satisfies invariance conditions given by the action of the 3-order symmetric group. Amongst these algebras we find the well-known Vinberg algebras, the Pre-Lie algebras, the Lie-admissible algebras and the 3-power associative algebras. We study properties between these coalgebras and algebras which generalize the associative case.
Hom-dendriform algebras are twisted analog of dendriform algebras and are splitting of hom-associative algebras. In this paper, we define a cohomology and deformation for hom-dendriform algebras. We relate this cohomology with the Hochschild-type cohomology of hom-associative algebras. We also describe similar results for the twisted analog of dendriform coalgebras.
We define a graded twisted-coassociative coproduct on the tensor algebra $TW$ of any $\Z^n$-graded vector space $W$. If $W$ is the desuspension space $\da V$ of a graded vector space $V$, the coderivations (resp. quadratic ``degree 1'' codifferentials, arbitrary odd codifferentials) of this coalgebra are 1-to-1 with sequences $\zp_s$, $s\ge 1$, of $s$-linear maps on $V$ (resp. $\Z^n$-graded Loday structures on $V$, sequences that we call Loday infinity structures on $V$). We prove a minimal model theorem for Loday infinity algebras, investigate Loday infinity morphisms, and observe that the $\…
It is shown that every n-ary totally Hom-associative algebra with equal twisting maps yields an n-ary Hom-Nambu algebra via an n-ary version of the commutator bracket. The class of n-ary totally Hom-associative algebras is shown to be closed under twisting by self-weak morphisms. Every multiplicative n-ary totally Hom-associative algebra yields a sequence of multiplicative totally Hom-associative algebras of exponentially higher arities. Under suitable conditions, an n-ary totally Hom-associative algebra gives an (n-k)-ary totally Hom-associative algebra.
We present a study of quadratic operads for n-ary algebras and their dual for n odd. We will focus on the ternary case (i.e n=3). The aim is to underline the problem of computing the dual operad and the fact that this last is in general defined in the graded differential operad framework. We prove that the operad associated to 3-ary partially associative algebra is not Koszul. Recall that, if n is even, the operad of n-ary partially associative algebras is Koszul.
The aim of this paper is to introduce $n$-ary Hom-algebra structures generalizing the $n$-ary algebras of Lie type enclosing $n$-ary Nambu algebras, $n$-ary Nambu-Lie algebras, $n$-ary Lie algebras, and $n$-ary algebras of associative type enclosing $n$-ary totally associative and $n$-ary partially associative algebras. Also, we provide a way to construct examples starting from an $n$-ary algebra and an $n$-ary algebras endomorphism. Several examples could be derived using this process.
Dendriform coalgebras are the dual notion of dendriform algebras and are splitting of associative coalgebras. In this paper, we define a cohomology theory for dendriform coalgebras based on some combinatorial maps. We show that the cohomology with self coefficients governs the formal deformation of the structure. We also relate this cohomology with the cohomology of dendriform algebras, coHochschild (Cartier) cohomology of associative coalgebras and cohomology of Rota-Baxter coalgebras which we introduce in this paper. Finally, using those combinatorial maps, we introduce homotopy analogue of …
For any $n$-ary associative algebra we construct a $\Z_{n-1}$ graded algebra, which is a universal object containing the $n$-ary algebra as a subspace of elements of degree 1. Similar construction is carried out for semigroups.
An $n$-ary associative function is called reducible if it can be written as a composition of a binary associative function. We summarize known results when the function is defined on a chain and is nondecreasing. Our main result shows that associative idempotent and nondecreasing functions are uniquely reducible.
We provide a description of the class of n-ary operations on an arbitrary chain that are quasitrivial, symmetric, nondecreasing, and associative. We also prove that associativity can be replaced with bisymmetry in the definition of this class. Finally we investigate the special situation where the chain is finite.
In this paper, we study the moduli space of $1|2$-dimensional complex associative algebras, which is also the moduli space of codifferentials on the tensor coalgebra of a $2|1$-dimensional complex space. We construct the moduli space by considering extensions of lower dimensional algebras. We also construct miniversal deformations of these algebras. This gives a complete description of how the moduli space is glued together via jump deformations.

It is observed that the category of n-ary Hom-Nambu(-Lie) algebras is closed under twisting by self-weak morphisms. Constructions of ternary Hom-Nambu algebras from Hom-associative algebras, Hom-Lie algebras, ternary totally Hom-associative algebras, and Hom-Jordan triple systems are given. Every multiplicative n-ary Hom-Nambu algebra gives rise to a sequence of Hom-Nambu algebras of exponentially higher arities. Under some conditions, an n-ary Hom-Nambu(-Lie) algebra gives rise to an (n-1)-ary Hom-Nambu(-Lie) algebra.
The cup product in the cohomology of algebras over quadratic operads has been studied in the general setting of Koszul duality for operads. We study the cup product on the cohomology of n-ary totally associative algebras with an operation of even (homological) degree. This cup product endows the cohomology with the structure of an n-ary partially associative algebra with an operation of even or odd degree depending on the parity of n. In the cases n = 3 and n = 4, we provide an explicit definition of this cup product and prove its basis properties.
We use the Lie coalgebra and configuration pairing framework presented previously by Sinha and Walter to derive a new, left-normed monomial basis for free Lie algebras (built from associative Lyndon-Shirshov words), as well as a dual monomial basis for Lie coalgebras. Our focus is on computational dexterity gained by using the configuration framework and basis. We include several explicit examples using the dual coalgebra basis and configuration pairing to perform Lie algebra computations. As a corollary of our work, we get a new multiplicative basis for the shuffle algebra.
We give an algebraic construction of the topological graph-tree configuration pairing of Sinha and Walter beginning with the classical presentation of Lie coalgebras via coefficients of words in the associative Lie polynomial. Our work moves from associative algebras to preLie algebras to graph complexes, justifying the use of graph generators for Lie coalgebras by iteratively expanding the set of generators until the set of relations collapses to two simple local expressions. Our focus is on new computational methods allowed by this framework and the efficiency of the graph presentation in pr…
We introduce a non-symmetric operad $\mathcal{N}$, whose dimension in degree $n$ is given by the Catalan number $c_{n-1}$. It arises naturally in the study of coalgebra structures defined on compatible associative algebras. We prove that any free compatible associative algebra admits a compatible infinitesimal bialgebra structure, whose subspace of primitive elements is a $\mathcal{N}$-algebra. The data $({\rm As},{\rm As}^2, \mathcal{N})$ is a good triple of operads, in J.-L. Loday's sense. Our construction induces another triple of operads $({\rm As},{\rm As}_2,{\rm As})$, where ${\rm As}_2$…
The aim of this paper is to establish a contravariant adjunction between the category of quasi-bialgebras and a suitable full subcategory of dual quasi-bialgebras, adapting the notion of finite dual to this framework. Various functorial constructions involving non-associative algebras and non-coassociative coalgebras are then carried out. Several examples illustrating our methods are expounded as well.
We define a ternary product and more generally a (2k+1)-ary product on the vector space T^p_q(E) of tensors of type (p, q) that is contravariant of order p, covariant of order q and total order (p+q). This product is totally associative up to a permutation s_k of order k (we call this property a s_k-totally associativity). When p=2 and q=1, we obtain a (2k+1)-ary product on the space of bilinear maps on E with values on E, which is identified to the cubic matrices. Then we obtain a (2k+1)-ary product on the space of cubic matrices. If we call a l-matrix a square tableau with lx...xl entrances …
An A-infinity algebra is given by a codifferential on the tensor coalgebra of a (graded) vector space. An associative algebra is a special case of an A-infinity algebra, determined by a quadratic codifferential. The notions of Hochschild and cyclic cohomology generalize from associative to A-infinity algebras, and classify the infinitesimal deformations of the algebra, and those deformations preserving an invariant inner product, respectively. Similarly, an L-infinity algebra is given by a codifferential on the exterior coalgebra of a vector space, with Lie algebras being special cases given b…
Let $X$ be a nonempty set. Denote by $\mathcal{F}^n_k$ the class of associative operations $F\colon X^n\to X$ satisfying the condition $F(x_1,\ldots,x_n)\in\{x_1,\ldots,x_n\}$ whenever at least $k$ of the elements $x_1,\ldots,x_n$ are equal to each other. The elements of $\mathcal{F}^n_1$ are said to be quasitrivial and those of $\mathcal{F}^n_n$ are said to be idempotent. We show that $\mathcal{F}^n_1=\cdots =\mathcal{F}^n_{n-2}\subseteq\mathcal{F}^n_{n-1}\subseteq\mathcal{F}^n_n$ and we give conditions on the set $X$ for the last inclusions to be strict. The class $\mathcal{F}^n_1$ was recen…
For an associative algebra $A$ a skew-symmetric sum of $n!$ products of $n$ elements of $A$ in all possible order is called $n$-commutator. We consider $A$ as $n$-ary algebra under $n$-commutator. We prove that it has an identity of $ω$-degree $2$ (namely, homotopical $n$-Lie identity) if $n$ is even and an identity of $ω$-degree $3$ if $n$ is odd.
The notion of $n$-ary algebras, that is vector spaces with a multiplication concerning $n$-arguments, $n \geq 3$, became fundamental since the works of Nambu. Here we first present general notions concerning $n$-ary algebras and associative $n$-ary algebras. Then we will be interested in the notion of $n$-Lie algebras, initiated by Filippov, and which is attached to the Nambu algebras. We study the particular case of nilpotent or filiform $n$-Lie algebras to obtain a beginning of classification. This notion of $n$-Lie algebra admits a natural generalization in Strong Homotopy $n$-Lie algebras …
Tridendriform algebras are a type of associative algebras, introduced independently by F. Chapoton and by J.-L. Loday and the third author, in order to describe operads related to the Stasheff polytopes. The vector space $\st$ spanned by the faces of permutohedra has a natural structure of tridendriform bialgebra, we prove that it is free as a tridendriform algebra and exhibit a basis. Our result implies that the subspace of primitive elements of the coalgebra $\st$ , equipped with the coboundary map of permutohedra, is a free cacti algebra.
The unified product was defined in \cite{am3} related to the restricted extending structure problem for Hopf algebras: a Hopf algebra $E$ factorizes through a Hopf subalgebra $A$ and a subcoalgebra $H$ such that $1\in H$ if and only if $E$ is isomorphic to a unified product $A \ltimes H$. Using the concept of normality of a morphism of coalgebras in the sense of Andruskiewitsch and Devoto we prove an equivalent description for the unified product from the point of view of split morphisms of Hopf algebras. A Hopf algebra $E$ is isomorphic to a unified product $A \ltimes H$ if and only if there …
Algebraic structures in which the property of commutativity is substituted by the mediality property are introduced. We consider (associative) graded algebras and instead of almost commutativity (generalized commutativity or $\varepsilon$-commutativity) we introduce almost mediality ("commutativity-to-mediality" ansatz). Higher graded twisted products and "deforming" brackets (being the medial analog of Lie brackets) are defined. Toyoda's theorem which connects (universal) medial algebras with abelian algebras is proven for the almost medial graded algebras introduced here. In a similar way we…
We investigate constructions of higher arity self-distributive operations, and give relations between cohomology groups corresponding to operations of different arities. For this purpose we introduce the notion of mutually distributive $n$-ary operations generalizing those for the binary case, and define a cohomology theory labeled by these operations. A geometric interpretation in terms of framed links is described, with the scope of providing algebraic background of constructing $2$-cocycles for framed link invariants. This theory is also studied in the context of symmetric monoidal categori…
We develop the basic constructions of homological algebra in the (appropriately defined) unbounded derived categories of modules over algebras over coalgebras over noncommutative rings (which we call semialgebras over corings). We define double-sided derived functors SemiTor and SemiExt of the functors of semitensor product and semihomomorphisms, and construct an equivalence between the exotic derived categories of semimodules and semicontramodules. Certain (co)flatness and/or (co)projectivity conditions have to be imposed on the coring and semialgebra to make the module categories abelian (an…
This paper reviews the properties and applications of certain n-ary generalizations of Lie algebras in a self-contained and unified way. These generalizations are algebraic structures in which the two entries Lie bracket has been replaced by a bracket with n entries. Each type of n-ary bracket satisfies a specific characteristic identity which plays the rôle of the Jacobi identity for Lie algebras. Particular attention will be paid to generalized Lie algebras, which are defined by even multibrackets obtained by antisymmetrizing the associative products of its n components and that satisfy the …

Given any twisting cochain t:C -->A, where C is a connected, coaugmented chain coalgebra and A is an augmented chain algebra over an arbitrary PID R, we construct a twisted extension of chain complexes A --> H(t) --> C. We show that both the well-known Hochschild complex of an associative algebra and the coHochschild complex of a coassociative coalgebra are special cases of H(t), which we therefore call the Hochschild complex of t. We explore the extent of the naturality of the Hochschild complex construction and apply the results of this exploration to determining conditions under which H(t) …
Let $A$ be a unital associative algebra over a field $k$, $E$ a vector space and $π: E \to A$ a surjective linear map with $V = {\rm Ker} (π)$. All algebra structures on $E$ such that $π: E \to A$ becomes an algebra map are described and classified by an explicitly constructed global cohomological type object ${\mathbb G} {\mathbb H}^{2} \, (A, \, V)$. Any such algebra is isomorphic to a Hochschild product $A \star V$, an algebra introduced as a generalization of a classical construction. We prove that ${\mathbb G} {\mathbb H}^{2} \, (A, \, V)$ is the coproduct of all non-abelian cohomologies …
