Presented is description of kinematics and dynamics of material points with internal degrees of freedom moving in a Riemannian manifold. The models of internal degrees of freedom we concentrate on are based on the orthogonal and affine groups. Roughly speaking, we consider infinitesimal gyroscopes and homogeneously deformable gyroscopes (affienly-rigid bodies) in curved manifolds. We follow our earlier models of extended rigid and affinely-rigid bodies moving in a flat space. It is well known that in curved spaces in general there is no well-defined concept of extended rigid or affinely-rigid body. Our infinitesimal models are mathematically well defined and physically they may be interpreted as an approximate description of "small" rigid and affinely-rigid bodies. We derive equations of motion and show how internal degrees of freedom interact with spatial geometry, first of all with the curvature but also with the torsion. Integrability and degeneracy problems are discussed.
We give an almost dynamical characterization of inter-model sets with Euclidean internal space. This characterization is similar to previous results for general inter-model sets obtained independently by Baake, Lenz and Moody, and Aujogue. The new ingredients are two additional conditions on the rank of the Abelian group generated by the set of internal difference and a flow on a torus defined via the address map introduced by Lagarias that play the role of the maximal equicontinuous factor in the previous characterizations.
We discuss various examples of classical Calogero-Moser models with internal degrees of freedom. These models besides of having some attractive properties, like the complete integrability, are of interest eg., in studying spectral properties of quantum chaotic systems. The role of internal degrees of freedom is important in at least two aspects. Firstly, they come in play as dynamically evolving couplings between repelling pairs of eigenvalues, hence they influence the speed of eigenvalue dynamics. Secondly their initial values determine the "reachable sets" of couplings between particular pai…
We consider Schramm-Loewner evolutions (SLEs) with internal degrees of freedom that are associated with representations of affine Lie algebras, following group theoretical formulation of SLEs. We reconstruct the SLEs considered by Bettelheim {\it et al.} [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 95}, 251601 (2005)] and Alekseev {\it et al.} [Lett. Math. Phys. {\bf 97}, 243-261 (2011)] in correlation function formulation. We also explicitly formulate stochastic differential equations on internal degrees of freedom for Heisenberg algebras and the affine $\mathfrak{sl}_{2}$. Our formulation enables us to find sever…
In this paper, we discuss two features of the noncommmutative geometry and spectral action approach to the Standard Model: the fact that the model is inherently Euclidean, and that it requires a quadrupling of the fermionic degrees of freedom. We show how the two issues are intimately related. We give a precise prescription for the Wick rotation from the Euclidean theory to the Lorentzian one, eliminating the extra degrees of freedom. This requires not only projecting out mirror fermions, as has been done so far, and which leads to the correct Pfaffian, but also the elimination of the remainin…
The unification of general relativity with quantum theory will also require a coming together of the two quite different mathematical languages of general relativity and quantum theory, i.e., of differential geometry and functional analysis respectively. Of particular interest in this regard is the field of spectral geometry, which studies to which extent the shape of a Riemannian manifold is describable in terms of the spectra of differential operators defined on the manifold. Spectral geometry is hard because it is highly nonlinear, but linearized spectral geometry, i.e., the task to determi…
We derive the first law of black hole mechanics for physical theories based on a local, covariant and gauge-invariant Lagrangian where the dynamical fields transform non-trivially under the action of internal gauge transformations. The theories of interest include General Relativity formulated in terms of tetrads, Einstein-Yang-Mills theory and Einstein-Dirac theory. Since the dynamical fields of these theories have gauge freedom, we argue that there is no group action of diffeomorphisms of spacetime on such dynamical fields. In general, such fields cannot even be represented as smooth, global…
The "fakeon" is a fake degree of freedom, i.e. a degree of freedom that does not belong to the physical spectrum, but propagates inside the Feynman diagrams. Fakeons can be used to make higher-derivative theories unitary. Moreover, they help us clarify how the Lee-Wick models work. In this paper we study the fakeon models, that is to say the theories that contain fake and physical degrees of freedom. We formulate them by (nonanalytically) Wick rotating their Euclidean versions. We investigate the properties of arbitrary Feynman diagrams and, among other things, prove that the fakeon models are…
We propose a generalization of Schramm-Loewner evolution (SLE) that has internal degrees of freedom described by an affine Lie superalgebra. We give a general formulation of SLE corresponding to representation theory of an affine Lie superalgebra whose underlying finite dimensional Lie superalgebra is basic classical type, and write down stochastic differential equations on internal degrees of freedom in case that the corresponding affine Lie superalgebra is $\widehat{\mathfrak{osp}(1|2)}$. We also demonstrate computation of local martingales associated with the solution from a representation …
