We study some properties of the local time of the asymmetric Bernoulli walk on the line. These properties are very similar to the corresponding ones of the simple symmetric random walks in higher ($d\geq3$) dimension, which we established in the recent years. The goal of this paper is to highlight these similarities.
We study a large class of long-range random walks which take values on the vertices of an N dimensional hypercube. These processes are connected with multivariate Bernoulli autoregression.
We study the mixing time of a random walk on the torus, alternated with a Lebesgue measure preserving Bernoulli map. Without the Bernoulli map, the mixing time of the random walk alone is $O(1/ε^2)$, where $ε$ is the step size. Our main results show that for a class of Bernoulli maps, when the random walk is alternated with the Bernoulli map $φ$ the mixing time becomes $O(|\ln ε|)$. We also study the \emph{dissipation time} of this process, and obtain $O(|\ln ε|)$ upper and lower bounds with explicit constants.
We consider the simple random walk on the $d$-dimensional lattice $\mathbb{Z}^d$ ($d \geq 1$), traveling in potentials which are Bernoulli distributed. The so-called Lyapunov exponent describes the cost of traveling for the simple random walk in the potential, and it is known that the Lyapunov exponent is strictly monotone in the parameter of the Bernoulli distribution. Hence, the aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of the potential on the Lyapunov exponent more precisely, and we derive some Lipschitz-type estimates for the difference between the Lyapunov exponents.
We prove a large deviation principle and give an expression for the rate function, for the last passage time in a Bernoulli environment. The model is exactly solvable and its invariant version satisfies a Burke-type property. Finally, we compute explicit limiting logarithmic moment generating functions for both the classical and the invariant models. The shape function of this model exhibits a flat edge in certain directions, and we also discuss the rate function and limiting log-moment generating functions in those directions.
We consider a discrete time biased random walk conditioned to avoid Bernoulli obstacles on ${\mathbb Z}^d$ ($d\geq 2$) up to time $N$. This model is known to undergo a phase transition: for a large bias, the walk is ballistic whereas for a small bias, it is sub-ballistic. We prove that in the sub-ballistic phase, the random walk is contained in a ball of radius $O(N^{1/(d+2)})$, which is the same scale as for the unbiased case. As an intermediate step, we also prove large deviation principles for the endpoint distribution for the unbiased random walk at scales between $N^{1/(d+2)}$ and $o(N^{d…
We consider a discrete time simple symmetric random walk among Bernoulli obstacles on $\mathbb{Z}^d$, $d\geq 2$, where the walk is killed when it hits an obstacle. It is known that conditioned on survival up to time $N$, the random walk range is asymptotically contained in a ball of radius $\varrho_N=C N^{1/(d+2)}$ for any $d\geq 2$. For $d=2$, it is also known that the range asymptotically contains a ball of radius $(1-ε)\varrho_N$ for any $ε>0$, while the case $d\geq 3$ remains open. We complete the picture by showing that for any $d\geq 2$, the random walk range asymptotically contains a ba…
We consider the use of random walks as an approach to obtain connection coefficients for higher-order Bernoulli and Euler polynomials. In particular, we consider the cases of a $1$-dimensional linear reflected Brownian motion and of a $3$-dimensional Bessel process. Considering the successive hitting times of two, three, and four fixed levels by these random walks yields non-trivial identities that involve higher-order Bernoulli and Euler polynomials.
Place an obstacle with probability $1-p$ independently at each vertex of $\mathbb Z^d$ and consider a simple symmetric random walk that is killed upon hitting one of the obstacles. For $d \geq 2$ and $p$ strictly above the critical threshold for site percolation, we condition on the environment such that the origin is contained in an infinite connected component free of obstacles. It has previously been shown that with high probability, the random walk conditioned on survival up to time $n$ will be localized in a ball of volume asymptotically $d\log_{1/p}n$. In this work, we prove that this ba…
We study an extension of the generalized excited random walk (GERW) on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ introduced in [Ann. Probab. 40 (5), 2012, [7]] by Menshikov, Popov, Ramírez and Vachkovskaia. Our extension consists in studying a version of the GERW where excitation depends on a random environment. Given $p \in (0,1]$ (a parameter of the model) whenever the process visits a site for the first time, with probability $p$ it gains a drift in a given direction (could be any direction of the unit sphere). Otherwise, with probability $1-p$, it behaves as a $d$-martingale with zero-mean vector. Whenever the proce…
Quantum Bernoulli noises are annihilation and creation operators acting on Bernoulli functionals, which satisfy the canonical anti-commutation relations (CAR) in equal-time. In this paper, we use quantum Bernoulli noises to introduce a model of open quantum walk on the $d$-dimensional integer lattice $\mathbb{Z}^d$ for a general positive integer $d\geq 2$, which we call the $d$-dimensional open QBN walk. We obtain a quantum channel representation of the $d$-dimensional open QBN walk, and find that it admits the ``separability-preserving'' property. We prove that, for a wide range of choices of…
We propose an approach to construct Bernoulli trials $\{X_i, i\ge 1\}$ combining dependence and independence periods, and call it Bernoulli sequence with random dependence (BSRD). The structure of dependence, on the past $S_i = X_1 + \ldots + X_i$, {defines} a class of non-Markovian random walks of recent interest in the literature. In this paper, the dependence is activated by an auxiliary collection of Bernoulli trials $\{Y_i, i\ge 1\}$, called {\it memory switch sequence}. We introduce the concept of {\it memory lapses property}, which {is} characterized by intervals of consecutive independ…
We consider the $1$-dimensional reflected Brownian motion and $3$-dimensional Bessel process and the general models. By decomposing the hitting times of consecutive sites into loops, we obtain identities, called loop identities, for the generating functions of the hitting times. After proving this decomposition both combinatorially and inductively, we consider the case that sites are equally distributed. Then, from loop identities, we derive expressions of Bernoulli and Euler polynomials, in terms of Euler polynomials of higher-orders.
In this paper, we present a quantum Bernoulli noises approach to quantum walks on hypercubes. We first obtain an alternative description of a general hypercube and then, based on the alternative description, we find that the operators $\partial_k^* + \partial_k$ behave actually as the shift operators, where $\partial_k$ and $\partial_k^*$ are the annihilation and creation operators acting on Bernoulli functionals, respectively. With the above operators as the shift operators on the position space, we introduce a discrete-time quantum walk model on a general hypercube and obtain an explicit for…
We study the facilitated totally asymmetric exclusion process on the one dimensional integer lattice. We investigate the invariant measures and the limiting behavior of the process. We mainly derive the limiting distribution of the process when the initial distribution is the Bernoulli product measure with density $1/2$. We also prove that in the low density regime, the system finally converges to an absorbing state.
An excited random walk is a non-Markovian extension of the simple random walk, in which the walk's behavior at time $n$ is impacted by the path it has taken up to time $n$. The properties of an excited random walk are more difficult to investigate than those of a simple random walk. For example, the limiting speed of an excited random walk is either zero or unknown depending on its initial conditions. While its limiting speed is unknown in most cases, the qualitative behavior of an excited random walk is largely determined by a parameter $δ$ which can be computed explicitly. Despite this, it i…
We study N interacting random walks on the positive integers. Each particle has drift δ towards infinity, a reflection at the origin, and a drift towards particles with lower positions. This inhomogeneous mean field system is shown to be ergodic only when the interaction is strong enough. We focus on this latter regime, and point out the effect of piles of particles, a phenomenon absent in models of interacting diffusion in continuous space.
In this paper, we present an abstract model of continuous-time quantum walk (CTQW) based on Bernoulli functionals and show that the model has perfect state transfer (PST), among others. Let $\mathfrak{h}$ be the space of square integrable complex-valued Bernoulli functionals, which is infinitely dimensional. First, we construct on a given subspace $\mathfrak{h}_L \subset \mathfrak{h}$ a self-adjoint operator $Δ_L$ via the canonical unitary involutions on $\mathfrak{h}$, and by analyzing its spectral structure we find out all its eigenvalues. Then, we introduce an abstract model of CTQW with $\…
Continuous time random walks have random waiting times between particle jumps. We define the correlated continuous time random walks (CTRWs) that converge to fractional Pearson diffusions (fPDs). The jumps in these CTRWs are obtained from Markov chains through the Bernoulli urn-scheme model and Wright-Fisher model. The jumps are correlated so that the limiting processes are not Lévy but diffusion processes with non-independent increments. The waiting times are selected from the domain of attraction of a stable law
We present a version of the RSK correspondence based on the Pitman transform and geometric considerations. This version unifies ordinary RSK, dual RSK and continuous RSK. We show that this version is both a bijection and an isometry, two crucial properties for taking limits of last passage percolation models. We use the bijective property to give a non-computational proof that dual RSK maps Bernoulli walks to nonintersecting Bernoulli walks.
We study in detail and explicitly solve the version of Kyle's model introduced in a specific case in \cite{BB}, where the trading horizon is given by an exponentially distributed random time. The first part of the paper is devoted to the analysis of time-homogeneous equilibria using tools from the theory of one-dimensional diffusions. It turns out that such an equilibrium is only possible if the final payoff is Bernoulli distributed as in \cite{BB}. We show in the second part that the signal of the market makers use in the general case is a time-changed version of the one that they would have …
A Bernoulli Gibbsian line ensemble $\mathfrak{L} = (L_1, \dots, L_N)$ is the law of the trajectories of $N-1$ independent Bernoulli random walkers $L_1, \dots, L_{N-1}$ with possibly random initial and terminal locations that are conditioned to never cross each other or a given random up-right path $L_N$ (i.e. $L_1 \geq \cdots \geq L_N$). In this paper we investigate the asymptotic behavior of sequences of Bernoulli Gibbsian line ensembles $\mathfrak{L}^N = (L^N_1, \dots, L^N_N)$ when the number of walkers $N$ tends to infinity. We prove that if one has mild but uniform control of the one-poin…
We introduce a new class of asymmetric random walks on the one-dimensional infinite lattice. In this walk the direction of the jumps (positive or negative) is determined by a discrete-time renewal process which is independent of the jumps. We call this discrete-time counting process the `it generator process' of the walk. We refer the so defined walk to as `Asymmetric Discrete-Time Random Walk' (ADTRW). We highlight connections of the waiting-time density generating functions with Bell polynomials. We derive the discrete-time renewal equations governing the time-evolution of the ADTRW and anal…
We consider the $N$-particle noncolliding Bernoulli random walk --- a discrete time Markov process in $\mathbb{Z}^{N}$ obtained from a collection of $N$ independent simple random walks with steps $\in\{0,1\}$ by conditioning that they never collide. We study the asymptotic behavior of local statistics of this process started from an arbitrary initial configuration on short times $T\ll N$ as $N\to+\infty$. We show that if the particle density of the initial configuration is bounded away from $0$ and $1$ down to scales $\mathsf{D}\ll T$ in a neighborhood of size $\mathsf{Q}\gg T$ of some locatio…
It has been proved that the distribution of the point where the Smart Kinetic Walk (SKW) exits a domain converges in distribution to harmonic measure on the hexagonal lattice. For other lattices, it is believed that this result still holds, and there is good numerical evidence to support this conjecture. Here we examine the effect of the symmetry and asymmetry of the transition probability on each step of the SKW on the square lattice and test if the exit distribution converges in distribution to harmonic measure as well. From our simulations, the limiting exit distribution of the SKW with a n…
Let $X$ be a simple random walk on $\mathbb{Z}_n^d$ with $d\geq 3$ and let $t_{\rm{cov}}$ be the expected cover time. We consider the set of points $\mathcal{U}_α$ of $\mathbb{Z}_n^d$ that have not been visited by the walk by time $αt_{\rm{cov}}$ for $α\in (0,1)$. It was shown in [MS17] that there exists $α_1(d)\in (0,1)$ such that for all $α>α_1(d)$ the total variation distance between the law of the set $\mathcal{U}_α$ and an i.i.d. sequence of Bernoulli random variables indexed by $\mathbb{Z}_n^d$ with success probability $n^{-αd}$ tends to $0$ as $n \to \infty$. In [MS17] the constant $α_1…
