A systematic study of deformations of four-dimensional Einsteinian space-times embedded in a pseudo-Euclidean space $E^N$ of higher dimension is presented. Infinitesimal deformations, seen as vector fields in $E^N$, can be divided in two parts, tangent to the embedded hypersurface and orthogonal to it; only the second ones are relevant, the tangent ones being equivalent to coordinate transformations in the embedded manifold.
The geometrical quantities can be then expressed in terms of embedding functions $z^A$ and their infinitesimal deformations $v^A z^A \to {\tilde{z}}^A = z^A + εv^A$. The deformations are called Einsteinian if they keep Einstein equations satisfied up to a given order in $ε$. The system so obtained is then analyzed in particular in the case of the Schwarzschild metric taken as the starting point, and some solutions of the first-order deformation of Einstein's equations are found.
We discuss also second and third order deformations leading to wave-like solutions and to the departure from spherical symmetry towards an axial one (the approximate Kerr solution)
Recent gravitational wave observations show evidence for the presence of higher harmonics, thus possibly indicating that these waves were generated in the inspiral of compact objects with asymmetric mass ratios. Signals with higher harmonics contain a trove of information that can lead to a better estimation of system parameters and possibly to more stringent tests of general relativity. Gravitational wave model that include higher harmonics, however, have only been developed within general relativity, while models to test theory-agnostic deviations from general relativity have been purely bas…
A systematic approach is developed in order to obtain spherically symmetric midisuperspace models that accept holonomy modifications in the presence of matter fields with local degrees of freedom. In particular, starting from the most general Hamiltonian quadratic in radial derivatives of the variables, we obtain a family of effective modified constraints that satisfy Dirac's deformation algebra, which encodes the covariance of general relativity, and show that (scale-dependent) holonomy corrections can be consistently implemented. In vacuum, the deformed anomaly-free Hamiltonian is explicitly…
A new proposal for the notion of spacetime in a relativistic generalization of special relativity based on a modification of the composition law of momenta is presented. Locality of interactions is the principle which defines the spacetime structure for a system of particles. The formulation based on $κ$-Poincaré Hopf algebra is shown to be contained in this framework as a particular example.

Durgapal's fifth isotropic solution describing spherically symmetric and static matter distribution is extended to an anisotropic scenario. To do so we employ the gravitational decoupling through the minimal geometric deformation scheme. This approach allows to split Einstein's field equations in two simply set of equations, one corresponding to the isotropic sector and other to the anisotropic sector described by an extra gravitational source. The isotropic sector is solved by the Dugarpal's model and the anisotropic sector is solved once a suitable election on the minimal geometric deformati…
By using the gravitational decoupling through the minimal geometric deformation approach (MGD-decoupling), we show a simple and powerful method to generate physically acceptable exact analytical solutions for anisotropic stellar distributions in general relativity. We find that some perfect fluid configurations could be incompatible with anisotropic effects produced by scalar fields.
Theoretical arguments in favor of energy dependent photon time delays from a modification of special relativity (SR) have met with recent gamma ray observations that put severe constraints on the scale of such deviations. We review the case of the generality of this theoretical prediction in the case of a deformation of SR and find that, at least in the simple model based on the analysis of photon worldlines which is commonly considered, there are many scenarios compatible with a relativity principle which do not contain a photon time delay. This will be the situation for any modified dispersi…
Neutron stars are known to host extremely powerful magnetic fields. Among other effects, one of the consequences of harbouring such fields is the deformation of the neutron star structure, leading, together with rotation, to the emission of continuous gravitational waves. On the one hand, the details of their internal magnetic fields are mostly unknown. Likewise, their internal structure, encoded by the equation of state, is highly uncertain. Here we present a study of axisymmetric models of isolated magnetised neutron stars, for various realistic equations of state considered viable by observ…
In this thesis, I investigate how to construct a self-consistent model of deformed general relativity using canonical methods and metric variables. The specific deformation of general covariance is predicted by some studies into loop quantum cosmology. I firstly find the minimally-deformed model for a scalar-tensor theory, thereby establishing a classical reference point, and investigate the cosmological effects of a non-minimal coupled scalar field. By treating the deformation perturbatively, I derive the deformed gravitational action which includes the nearest order of curvature corrections.…
Effective models of black holes interior have led to several proposals for regular black holes. In the so-called polymer models, based on effective deformations of the phase space of spherically symmetric general relativity in vacuum, one considers a deformed Hamiltonian constraint while keeping a non-deformed vectorial constraint. In this article, we revisit and study further the question of covariance in these deformed gravity models. In particular, we propose a Lagrangian formulation for these deformed gravity models where polymer-like deformations are introduced at the level of the full th…
Neutron stars harbour extremely powerful magnetic fields, leading to their shape being deformed. Their magnetic deformation depends both on the geometry - and strength - of their internal magnetic field and on their composition, encoded by the equation of state. However, both the details of the internal magnetic structure and the equation of state of the innermost part of neutron stars are mostly unkown. We performed a study of numerical models of magnetised, static, axisymmetric neutron stars in general relativity and in one of its most promising extensions, scalar-tensor theories. We did so …
ISIM(2) symmetry group of Cohen and Glashow's very special relativity is unstable with respect to small deformations of its underlying algebraic structure and according to Segal's principle cannot be a true symmetry of nature. However, like special relativity, which is a very good description of nature thanks to the smallness of the cosmological constant, which characterizes the deformation of the Poincare group, the very special relativity can also be a very good approximation thanks to the smallness of the dimensionless parameter characterizing the deformation of ISIM(2).

Whenever the condition of anomaly freedom is imposed within the framework of effective approaches to loop quantum cosmology, one seems to conclude that a deformation of general covariance is required. Here, starting from a general deformation we regain an effective gravitational Lagrangian including terms up to fourth order in extrinsic curvature. We subsequently constrain the form of the corrections, and then investigate the conditions for the occurrence of a big bounce and the realisation of an inflationary era, in the presence of a perfect fluid or scalar field.
We put forward the idea that in addition to diffeomorphism invariance of general relativity (GR) the gravitational interaction is invariant under arbitrary scale-deformations of the metric field. In addition, we assume that the scaling field has an internal symmetry. The global charges that are associated with this symmetry could potentially source the gravitational field. In the case that isotropic deformations are considered, the theory reduces to a Weyl-invariant (WI) version of GR. In the case that Minkowski spacetime is deformed the vierbein formalism is recovered, rendering GR a field th…
A conical topological defect is the result of translational and/or rotational deformations of spacetime, in particular the Burgers vector describes the translational deformation. Such a configuration represents a discontinuity, that cannot be removed by coordinate transformations, and is related to the spacetime torsion. Using the Teleparallel Equivalent of General Relativity (TERG), a gravitational theory that is dynamically equivalent to General Relativity (GR), we investigate the consequences of assuming a discrete Burgers vector on the geodesic motion of particles around a static conical d…
On the basis of all commutation relations of the k-deformed phase space incorporating the k-Minkowski space-time, we have derived in this paper an extended first approximation of both Maxwell's equations and Lorentz force in doubly (or deformed) special relativity (DSR). For this purpose, we have used our approach of the special relativistic version of Feynman's proof by which we have established the explicit formulations of electric and magnetic fields. As in Fock's nonlinear relativity (FNLR), the laws of electrodynamics depend on the particle mass which therefore constitutes a common point …
The U(1)$^3$ model for 3+1 Euclidian signature general relativity is an interacting, generally covariant field theory with two physical polarisations that shares many features of Lorentzian general relativity. In particular, it displays a non-trivial realisation of the hypersurface deformation algebroid with non-trivial, i.e. phase space dependent structure functions rather than structure constants. In this paper we show that the model admits {\it an exact quantisation}. The quantisation rests on the observation that for this model and in the chosen representation of the canonical commutation …
Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is an efficient tool to optimize the multiparameter tests of general relativity (GR) where one tests for simultaneous deviations in multiple post-Newtonian (PN) phasing coefficients by introducing fractional deformation parameters. We use PCA to construct the `best-measured' linear combinations of the PN deformation parameters from the data. This helps to set stringent limits on deviations from GR and detect possible beyond-GR physics. In this paper, we study the effectiveness of this method with the proposed next-generation gravitational wave detectors, Cosm…
In this contribution, we calculate the light deflection, perihelium shift, time delay and gravitational redshift using an approximate metric that contains the Kerr metric and an approximaction of the Erez-Rosen spacetime. The results were obtained directly using Mathematica. The results agree with the ones presented in the literature, but they are extended until second order terms of mass, angular momentum and mass quadrupole.
