The fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE) in the second orbital Landau level at filling factor 5/2 remains enigmatic and motivates our work. We consider the effect of the quasi-2D nature of the experimental FQH system on a number of FQH states (fillings 1/3, 1/5, 1/2) in the lowest, second, and third Landau levels (LLL, SLL, TLL,) by calculating the overlap, as a function of quasi-2D layer thickness, between the exact ground state of a model Hamiltonian and the consensus variational wavefunctions (Laughlin wavefunction for 1/3 and 1/5 and the Moore-Read Pfaffian wavefunction for 1/2). Using large overlap as a stability, or FQHE robustness, criterion we find the FQHE does not occur in the TLL (for any thickness), is the most robust for zero thickness in the LLL for 1/3 and 1/5 and for 11/5 in the SLL, and is most robust at finite-thickness (4-5 magnetic lengths) in the SLL for the mysterious 5/2 state and the 7/3 state. No FQHE is found at 1/2 in the LLL for any thickness. We examine the orbital effects of an in-plane (parallel) magnetic field finding its application effectively reduces the thickness and could destroy the FQHE at 5/2 and 7/3, while enhancing it at 11/5 as well as for LLL FQHE states. The in-plane field effects could thus be qualitatively different in the LLL and the SLL by virtue of magneto-orbital coupling through the finite thickness effect. In the torus geometry, we show the appearance of the threefold topological degeneracy expected for the Pfaffian state which is enhanced by thickness corroborating our findings from overlap calculations. Our results have ramifications for wavefunction engineering--the possibility of creating an optimal experimental system where the 5/2 FQHE state is more likely described by the Pfaffian state with applications to topological quantum computing.
The observation of new insulating phases of two-dimensional electrons in the first excited Landau level is reported. These states, which are manifested as re-entrant integer quantized Hall effects, exist alongside well-developed even-denominator fractional quantized Hall states at nu=7/2 and 5/2 and new odd-denominator states at nu=3+1/5 and 3+4/5.
We find the finite-width, i.e., the layer thickness, of experimental quasi-two dimensional systems produces a physical environment sufficient to stabilize the Moore-Read Pfaffian state thought to describe the fractional quantum Hall effect at filling factor $ν=5/2$. This conclusion is based on exact calculations performed in the spherical and torus geometries, studying wavefunction overlap and ground state degeneracy
We compute the effect of Landau-level-mixing on the effective two-body and three-body pseudopotentials for electrons in the lowest and second Landau levels. We find that the resulting effective three-body interaction is attractive in the lowest relative angular momentum channel. The renormalization of the two-body pseudopotentials also shows interesting structure. We comment on the implications for the $ν=5/2$ fractional quantum Hall state.
The quantum Hall phase diagram of the half-filled bilayer system in the second Landau level is studied as a function of tunneling and layer separation using exact diagonalization. We make the striking prediction that bilayer structures would manifest two distinct branches of incompressible fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE) corresponding to the Abelian 331 state (at moderate to low tunneling and large layer separation) and the non-Abelian Pfaffian state (at large tunneling and small layer separation). The observation of these two FQHE branches and the quantum phase transition between them w…
We present measurements of the real diagonal microwave conductivity of the reentrant insulating quantum Hall phases in the first excited Landau level at temperatures below 50 mK. A resonance is detected around filling factor $ν=2.58$ and weaker frequency dependence is seen at $ν=2.42$ and 2.28. These measurements are consistent with the formation of a bubble phase crystal centered around these $ν$ at very low temperatures.
The effects of Landau level mixing and finite thickness of the two-dimensional electron gas on the relative stability of skyrmion and single spin-flip excitations at Landau level filling factor $ν=1$ have been investigated. Landau level mixing is studied by fixed-phase diffusion Monte Carlo and finite thickness is included by modifying the effective Coulomb interaction. Both Landau level mixing and finite thickness lower skyrmion excitation energies and favor skyrmions with fewer spin flips. However, the two effects do not work `coherently'. When finite thickness is included the effect of Land…
We report an unexpected sharp peak in the temperature dependence of the magnetoresistance of the reentrant integer quantum Hall states in the second Landau level. This peak defines the onset temperature of these states. We find that in different spin branches the onset temperatures of the reentrant states scale with the Coulomb energy. This scaling provides direct evidence that Coulomb interactions play an important role in the formation of these reentrant states evincing their collective nature.
We construct Landau-Ginzburg effective field theories for fractional quantum Hall states -- such as the Pfaffian state -- which exhibit non-Abelian statistics. These theories rely on a Meissner construction which increases the level of a non-Abelian Chern-Simons theory while simultaneously projecting out the unwanted degrees of freedom of a concomitant enveloping Abelian theory. We describe this construction in the context of a system of bosons at Landau level filling factor $ν=1$, where the non-Abelian symmetry is a dynamically-generated SU(2) continuous extension of the discrete particle-hol…
We numerically study the fractional quantum Hall effect at filling factors $ν=12/5$ and 13/5 (the particle-hole conjugate of 12/5) in high-quality two-dimensional GaAs heterostructures via exact diagonalization including finite well width and Landau level mixing. We find that Landau level mixing suppresses $ν=13/5$ fractional quantum Hall effect relative to $ν=12/5$. By contrast, we find both $ν=2/5$ and (its particle-hole conjugate) $ν=3/5$ fractional quantum Hall effects in the lowest Landau level to be robust under Landau level mixing and finite well-width corrections. Our results provide a…
We investigate, analytically and numerically, the effects of disorder on the density of states and on the localization properties of the relativistic two dimensional fermions in the lowest Landau level. Employing a supersymmetric technique, we calculate the exact density of states for the Cauchy (Lorentzian) distribution for various types of disorders. We use a numerical technique to establish the localization-delocalization (LD) transition in the lowest Landau level. For some types of disorder the LD transition is shown to belong to a different universality class, as compared to the correspon…
We consider the two lowest Landau levels at half filling. In the higher Landau level (nu =5/2), we find a first order phase transition separating a compressible striped phase from a paired quantum Hall state, which is identified as the Moore-Read state. The critical point is very near the Coulomb potential and the transition can be driven by increasing the width of the electron layer. We find a much weaker transition (either second order or a crossover) from pairing to the composite fermion Fermi liquid behavior. A very similar picture is obtained for the lowest Landau level but the transition…
We perform numerical studies to determine if the fractional quantum Hall state observed at filling nu=5/2 is the Moore-Read wavefunction or its particle hole conjugate, the so-called AntiPfaffian. Using a truncated Hilbert space approach we find that for realistic interactions, including Landau-level mixing, the ground state remains fully polarized and the AntiPfaffian is strongly favored.
We examine the quantum phase diagram of the fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE) in the lowest two Landau levels in half-filled bilayer structures as a function of tunneling strength and layer separation, i.e., we revisit the lowest Landau level filling factor 1/2 bilayer problem and make new predictions involving bilayers in the half-filled second Landau level (i.e., filling factor 5/2). Using numerical exact diagonalization we investigate the important question of whether this system supports a FQHE described by the non-Abelian Moore-Read Pfaffian state in the strong tunneling regime. In th…
Particle-hole symmetry breaking in the fractional quantum Hall effect has recently been studied both theoretically and experimentally with most works focusing on non-Abelian states in the second electronic Landau level. In this work, we theoretically investigate particle-hole symmetry breaking of incompressible fractional quantum Hall states in the lowest Landau level under the influence of the realistic effect of a finite magnetic field strength. A finite magnetic field induces Landau level and sub-band mixing which are known to break particle-hole symmetry at the level of the Hamiltonian. We…
We report the observation of a new fractional quantum Hall state in the second Landau level of a two-dimensional electron gas at the Landau level filling factor $ν=2+6/13$. We find that the model of noninteracting composite fermions can explain the magnitude of gaps of the prominent 2+1/3 and 2+2/3 states. The same model fails, however, to account for the gaps of the 2+2/5 and the newly observed 2+6/13 states suggesting that these two states are of exotic origin.omposite fermion model. However, the weaker 2+2/5 and 2+6/13 states deviate significantly suggesting that these states are of exotic …
The electron-electron interaction in the Landau levels of bilayer graphene is markedly different from that of conventional semiconductors such as GaAs. We show that in the zeroth Landau level of bilayer graphene, in the orbital which is dominated by the non-relativistic second Landau level wave function, by tuning the magnetic field a topological quantum phase transition from an Abelian composite fermion to a non-Abelian parton fractional quantum Hall state can be induced at filling factors $1/2, ~2/5$ and $3/7$. The parton states host exotic anyons that can potentially be utilized to store an…
In two-dimensional hole systems confined to wide GaAs quantum wells, where the heavy- and light- hole states are close in energy, we observe a very unusual crossing of the lowest two Landau levels as the sample is tilted in magnetic field. At a magic tilt angle $θ\simeq 34^{\circ}$, which surprisingly is independent of the well-width or hole density, in a large filling factor range near $ν=1$ the lowest two levels are nearly degenerate as evinced by the presence of two-component quantum Hall states. Remarkably, a quantum Hall state is seen at $ν=1$, consistent with a \textit{correlated} $Ψ_{11…
Inter-Landau-level transitions break particle hole symmetry and will choose either the Pfaffian or the anti-Pfaffian state as the absolute ground state at 5/2 filling of the fractional quantum Hall effect. An approach based on truncating the Hilbert space has favored the anti-Pfaffian. A second approach based on an effective Hamiltonian produced the Pfaffian. In this letter perturbation theory is applied to finite sizes without bias to any specific pseudo-potential component. This method also singles out the anti-Pfaffian. A critical piece of the effective Hamiltonian, which was absent in prev…
We study the collective modes of the quantum Hall states in undoped bilayer graphene in a strong perpendicular magnetic and electric field. Both for the well-known ferromagnetic state that is relevant for small electric field $E_\perp$ and the analogous valley/layer polarized one suitable for large $E_\perp$, the low energy physics is dominated by magnetoexcitons with zero angular momentum that are even combinations of excitons that conserve Landau orbitals. We identify a long wave length instability in both states, and argue that there is an intermediate range of the electric field $E^{(1)}_\…
Exact diagonalization of a two-dimensional electron gas in a strong magnetic field in the disk geometry shows that there exists a filling factor range in the second Landau level where the states significantly differ from those in the lowest Landau level. We show that the difference arises because the interaction between composite fermions is not negligible in higher Landau levels, as indicated by a substantial mixing between composite-fermion Landau-like levels, or lambda levels. We find that the exact ground state is well reproduced by composite fermion theory with lambda level mixing incorpo…
A theory is developed for the paired even-denominator fractional quantum Hall states in the lowest Landau level. We show that electrons bind to quantized vortices to form composite fermions, interacting through an exact instantaneous interaction that favors chiral p-wave pairing. Two canonically dual pairing gap functions are related by the bosonic Laughlin wavefunction (Jastraw factor) due to the correlation holes. We find that the ground state is the Moore-Read pfaffian in the long wavelength limit for weak Coulomb interactions, a new pfaffian of an oscillatory pairing function for intermedi…
We study many-body ground states for the partial integer fillings of the $N=1$ Landau level in graphene, by constructing a model that accounts for the lattice scale corrections to the Coulomb interactions. Interestingly, in contrast to the $N=0$ Landau level, this model contains not only pure delta function interactions but also some of its derivatives. Due to this we find several important differences with respect to the $N=0$ Landau level. For example at quarter filling when only a single component is filled, there is a degeneracy lifting of the quantum hall ferromagnets and ground states wi…
In the framework of a recently developed model of interacting composite fermions, we calculate the energy of different solid and Laughlin-type liquid phases of spin-polarized composite fermions. The liquid phases have a lower energy than the competing solids around the electronic filling factors nu=4/11,6/17, and 4/19 and may thus be responsible for the fractional quantum Hall effect at nu=4/11. The alternation between solid and liquid phases when varying the magnetic field may lead to reentrance phenomena in analogy with the observed reentrant integral quantum Hall effect.
We present results of extensive numerical calculations on the ground state of electrons in the first excited (n=1) Landau level with Coulomb interactions, and including non-zero thickness effects, for filling factors 12/5 and 13/5 in the torus geometry. In a region that includes these experimentally-relevant values, we find that the energy spectrum and the overlaps with the trial states support the previous hypothesis that the system is in the non-Abelian k = 3 liquid phase we introduced in a previous paper.
We investigate theoretically the fractional quantum Hall effect at half-filling in the lowest Landau level observed in asymmetric wide quantum wells. The asymmetry can be achieved by a potential bias applied between the two sides of the well. Within exact-diagonalization calculations in the spherical geometry, we find that the incompressible state is described in terms of a two-component wave function. Its overlap with the ground state can be optimized with the help of a rotation in the space of the pseudospin, which mimics the lowest two electronic subbands.
In this paper, we revisit some quantum mechanical aspects related to the Quantum Hall Effect. We consider a Landau type model, paying a special attention to the experimental and geometrical features of Quantum Hall experiments. The resulting formalism is then used to compute explicitely the Hall conductivity from a Kubo formula.
We have observed in a low density two-dimensional hole system (2DHS) of extremely high quality (with hole density p=1.6x10^{10} cm^{-2} and mobility μ=0.8x10^6 cm^2/Vs) that, as the 2DHS is continuously tilted with respect to the direction of the magnetic field, the ν=1/3 fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE) state is weakened and its magnetoresistivity rises from ~ 0.4 kohm/square in the normal orientation to ~ 180 kohm/square at tilt angle θ\~ 80 degrees. We attribute this phenomenon to the transition of the 2DHS from the FQHE liquid state to the pinned Wigner solid state, and argue that its…
In a low-disorder two-dimensional electron system, when two Landau levels of opposite spin or pseudospin cross at the Fermi level, the dominance of the exchange energy can lead to a ferromagnetic, quantum Hall ground state whose gap is determined by the exchange energy and has skyrmions as its excitations. This is normally achieved via applying either hydrostatic pressure or uniaxial strain. We study here a very high-quality, low-density, two-dimensional hole system, confined to a 30-nm-wide (001) GaAs quantum well, in which the two lowest-energy Landau levels can be gate tuned to cross at and…
Specific heat has had an important role in the study of superfluidity and superconductivity, and could provide important information about the fractional quantum Hall effect as well. However, traditional measurements of the specific heat of a two-dimensional electron gas are difficult due to the large background contribution of the phonon bath, even at very low temperatures. Here, we report measurements of the specific heat per electron in the second Landau level by measuring the thermalization time between the electrons and phonons. We observe activated behaviour of the specific heat of the 5…
We study theoretically the dispersion of a single quasiparticle or quasihole of the fractional quantum Hall effect, obtained by injecting or removing a composite fermion. By comparing to a free fermion system, we estimate the regime of validity of the Landau-Fermi-liquid-type description and deduce the Landau mass.
We review the theoretical basis and understanding of electronic interactions in graphene Landau levels, in the limit of strong correlations. This limit occurs when inter-Landau-level excitations may be omitted because they belong to a high-energy sector, whereas the low-energy excitations only involve the same level, such that the kinetic energy (of the Landau level) is an unimportant constant. Two prominent effects emerge in this limit of strong electronic correlations: generalised quantum Hall ferromagnetic states that profit from the approximate four-fold spin-valley degeneracy of graphene'…
An important development in the field of the fractional quantum Hall effect has been the proposal that the 5/2 state observed in the Landau level with orbital index $n = 1$ of two dimensional electrons in a GaAs quantum well originates from a chiral $p$-wave paired state of composite fermions which are topological bound states of electrons and quantized vortices. This state is theoretically described by a "Pfaffian" wave function or its hole partner called the anti-Pfaffian, whose excitations are neither fermions nor bosons but Majorana quasiparticles obeying non-Abelian braid statistics. This…
The scarcity of the fractional quantum Hall effect in higher Landau levels is a most intriguing fact when contrasted with its great abundance in the lowest Landau level. This paper shows that a suppression of the hard core repulsion in going from the lowest Landau level to higher Landau levels leads to a collapse of the energy of the neutral excitation, destabilizing all fractional states in the third and higher Landau levels, and almost all in the second Landau level. The remaining fractions are in agreement with those observed experimentally.
The fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE), observed in two-dimensional (2D) charged particles at high magnetic fields, is one of the most fascinating, macroscopic manifestations of a many-body state stabilized by the strong Coulomb interaction. It occurs when the filling factor ($ν$) of the quantized Landau levels (LLs) is a fraction which, with very few exceptions, has an odd denominator. In 2D systems with additional degrees of freedom it is possible to cause a crossing of the LLs at the Fermi level. At and near these crossings, the FQHE states are often weakened or destroyed. Here we report…
Eigenstates of the planar magnetic Laplacian with homogeneous magnetic field form degenerate energy bands, the Landau levels. We discuss the unitary correspondence between states in higher Landau levels and those in the lowest Landau level, where wave functions are holomorphic. We apply this correspondence to many-body systems, in particular we represent effective Hamiltonians and particle densities in higher Landau levels by corresponding quantities in the lowest Landau level.
We investigated spin Hall magnetoresistance in FeMn/Pt bilayers, which was found to be one order of magnitude larger than that of heavy metal and insulating ferromagnet or antiferromagnet bilayer systems, and comparable to that of NiFe/Pt bilayers. The spin Hall magnetoresistance shows a non-monotonic dependence on the thicknesses of both FeMn and Pt. The former can be accounted for by the thickness dependence of net magnetization in FeMn thin films, whereas the latter is mainly due to spin accumulation and diffusion in Pt. Through analysis of the Pt thickness dependence, the spin Hall angle, …
We derive an effective hamiltonian in the Lowest Landau Level (LLL) that incorporates the effects of Landau-level mixing to all higher Landau levels to leading order in the ratio of interaction energy to the cyclotron energy. We then transcribe the hamiltonian to the composite fermion basis using our hamiltonian approach and compute the effect of LL mixing on transport gaps.
We study the behavior of two-dimensional electron gas in the fractional quantum Hall regime in the presence of finite layer thickness and correlated disordered potential. Generalizing the Chern number calculation to many-body systems, we determine the mobility gaps of fractional quantum Hall states based on the distribution of Chern numbers in a microscopic model. We find excellent agreement between experimentally measured activation gaps and our calculated mobility gaps, when combining the effects of both disordered potential and layer thickness. We clarify the difference between mobility gap…
We generalize the fractional quantum Hall hierarchy picture to apply to arbitrary, possibly non-Abelian, fractional quantum Hall states. Applying this to the nu = 5/2 Moore-Read state, we construct new explicit trial wavefunctions to describe the fractional quantum Hall effect in the second Landau level. The resulting hierarchy of states, which reproduces the filling fractions of all observed Hall conductance plateaus in the second Landau level, is characterized by electron pairing in the ground state and an excitation spectrum that includes non-Abelian anyons of the Ising type. We propose thi…
The $ν=2$ quantum Hall state at low Zeeman coupling is well-known to be a translationally invariant singlet if Landau level mixing is small. At zero Zeeman interaction, as Landau level mixing increases, the translationally invariant state becomes unstable to aninhomogeneous state. This is the first realistic example of a full Hall crystal, which shows the coexistence of quantum Hall order and density wave order. The full Hall crystal differs from the more familiar Wigner crystal by a topological property, which results in it having only linearly dispersing collective modes at small $q$, and no…
The angular momentum model which couples the spin and charge is discussed as a possible theory of the quantum Hall effect. The high Landau level filling fractions 5/2, 7/3 and 8/3 are understood by this model. It is found that 7/3 and 8/3 are the particle-hole conjugates and 5/2 arises due to a limiting level at 1/2 with Landau level number n=5 which makes the fraction as 5/2.
A key feature of the topological surface state under a magnetic field is the presence of the zeroth Landau level at the zero energy. Nonetheless, it has been challenging to probe the zeroth Landau level due to large electron-hole puddles smearing its energy landscape. Here, by developing ultra-low-carrier density topological insulator Sb$_2$Te$_3$ films, we were able to reach an extreme quantum limit of the topological surface state and uncover a hidden phase at the zeroth Landau level. First, we discovered an unexpected quantum-Hall-to-insulator-transition near the zeroth Landau level. Then, …
The unitary correspondence between Quantum Hall states in higher Landau levels and states in the lowest Landau level is discussed together with the resulting transformation formulas for particle densities and interaction potentials. This correspondence leads in particular to a representation of states in arbitrary Landau levels in terms of holomorphic functions. Some important special Quantum Hall states in higher Landau levels are also briefly discussed.
We report results of exact diagonalization studies of the spin- and valley-polarized fractional quantum Hall effect in the $N=0$ and 1 Landau levels in graphene. We use an effective model that incorporates Landau level mixing to lowest-order in the parameter $κ= \frac{e^2/ε\ell}{\hbar v_F/\ell}=\frac{e^2}{εv_F\hbar}$ which is magnetic field independent and can only be varied through the choice of substrate. We find Landau level mixing effects are negligible in the $N=0$ Landau level for $κ\lesssim 2$. In fact, the lowest Landau level projected Coulomb Hamiltonian is a better approximation to t…
We show that for a class of model Hamiltonians for which certain trial quantum Hall wavefunctions are exact ground states, there is a single spectral density function which controls all two-point correlation functions of density, current and stress tensor components. From this we show that the static structure factors of these wavefunctions behaves at long wavelengths as $s_4 k^4$ where the coefficient $s_4$ is directly related to the shift: $s_4=(\mathcal S-1)/8$.
It has long been speculated that quasi-two-dimensional superconductivity can reappear above its semiclassical upper critical field due to Landau quantization, yet this reentrant property has never been observed. Here, we argue that twisted bilayer graphene at a magic angle (MATBG) is an ideal system in which to search for this phenomenon because its Landau levels are doubly degenerate, and its superconductivity appears already at carrier densities small enough to allow the quantum limit to be reached at relatively modest magnetic fields. We study this problem theoretically by combining a simpl…
The nu=5/2 fractional quantum Hall state is studied numerically, directly including the effects of electron scattering between neighboring Landau levels. Significant reduction of the excitation gap caused by the LL mixing explains the discrepancy between earlier calculations and experiments. On the other hand, LL mixing also considerably reduces overlaps with the Moore--Read wavefunction, raising a question of the actual realization of nonabelian quasiparticles in present experiments.
Motivated by recent transport experiments, we theoretically study the quantum Hall effect in topological semimetal films. Owing to the confinement effect, the bulk subbands originating from the chiral Landau levels establish energy gaps that have quantized Hall conductance and can be observed in relatively thick films. We find that the quantum Hall state is strongly anisotropic for different confinement directions not only due to the presence of the surface states but also because of the bulk chiral Landau levels. As a result, we re-examine the quantum Hall effect from the surface Fermi arcs a…
We report low temperature electronic transport results on the fractional quantum Hall effect of composite fermions at Landau level filling nu = 4/11 in a very high mobility and low density sample. Measurements were carried out at temperatures down to 15mK, where an activated magnetoresistance Rxx and a quantized Hall resistance Rxy, within 1% of the expected value of h/(4/11)e^2, were observed. The temperature dependence of the Rxx minimum at 4/11 yields an activation energy gap of ~ 7 mK. Developing Hall plateaus were also observed at the neighboring states at nu = 3/8 and 5/13.
With the recent observation of graphene-like Landau levels at the surface of topological insulators, the possibility of fractional quantum Hall effect, which is a fundamental signature of strong correlations, has become of interest. Some experiments have reported intra-Landau level structure that is suggestive of fractional quantum Hall effect. This paper discusses the feasibility of fractional quantum Hall effect from a theoretical perspective, and argues that while this effect should occur, ideally, in the $n=0$ and $|n|=1$ Landau levels, it is ruled out in higher $|n|$ Landau levels. Unlike…
We present a Hartree-Fock study that incorporates the effects of Landau level mixing and screening due to filled levels into the computation of energies and states of quasiparticles in quantum Hall ferromagnets. We use it to construct a phase diagram for skyrmion stability as a function of magnetic field and Zeeman coupling strengths. We find that Landau level mixing tends to favor spin-polarized quasiparticles, while finite thickness corrections favor skyrmions. Our studies show that skyrmion stability in high Landau levels is very sensitive to the way in which electron-electron interactions …
We report on our theoretical investigations that point to the possibility of a fractional quantum Hall effect with partial spin polarization at $ν=3/8$. The physics of the incompressible state proposed here involves p-wave pairing of composite fermions in the spin reversed sector. The temperature and magnetic field regimes for the realization of this state are estimated.
In quantum matters hosting electron-electron correlation and spin-orbit coupling, spatial inhomogeneities, arising from competing ground states, can be essential for determining and understanding topological properties. A prominent example is Hall anomalies observed in SrRuO3 films, which were interpreted in terms of either magnetic skyrmion-induced topological Hall effect (THE) or inhomogeneous anomalous Hall effect (AHE). To clarify this ambiguity, we systematically investigated the AHE of SrRuO3 ultrathin films with controllable inhomogeneities in film thickness (tSRO). By harnessing the st…
