We present a discussion of the effects induced by bulk viscosity on the very early Universe stability. The viscosity coefficient is assumed to be related to the energy density $ρ$ via a power-law of the form $ζ=ζ_0 ρ^s$ (where $ζ_0, s=const.$) and the behavior of the density contrast in analyzed.
In particular, we study both Einstein and hydrodynamic equations up to first and second order in time in the so-called quasi-isotropic collapsing picture near the cosmological singularity. As a result, we get a power-law solution existing only in correspondence to a restricted domain of $ζ_0$. The particular case of pure isotropic FRW dynamics is then analyzed and we show how the asymptotic approach to the initial singularity admits an unstable collapsing picture.
In this paper we discuss some consequences of cosmological models in which the primordial cosmic matter is described by a relativistic imperfect fluid. The latter takes into account the dissipative effects (bulk viscosity) arising from different cooling rates of the fluid components in the expanding Universe. We discuss, in particular, the effects of the bulk viscosity on Big Bang Nucleosynthesis and on the thermal relic abundance of particles, looking at recent results of PAMELA experiment. The latter has determined an anomalous excess of positron events, that cannot be explained by the conve…
We describe the evolution of the early and late universe from thermodynamic considerations, using the generalized non-extensive Tsallis entropy with a variable exponent. A new element in our analysis is the inclusion of a bulk viscosity in the description of the cosmic fluid. Using the generalized Friedmann equation, a description of the early and the late universe is obtained.
We study particle creation in the presence of bulk viscosity of cosmic fluid in the early universe within the framework of open thermodynamical systems. Since the first-order theory of non-equilibrium thermodynamics is non-causal and unstable, we try to solve the bulk viscosity equation of the cosmic fluid with particle creation through the full causal theory. By adopting an appropriate function for particle creation rate of "Creation of Cold Dark Matter" model, we obtain analytical solutions which do not suffer from the initial singularity and are in agreement with equivalent solutions of Lam…
In this paper, we investigate the viscous modified Chaplygin gas cosmological model. Solutions for different values of the viscosity parameter are obtained using both analytical and numerical methods. We have calculated the deceleration and defined {\em newly} statefinder $\{r, s \}$ pair in D dimensions. It is shown that when $D=4$, the usual statefinder parameters are recovered. Furthermore, we apply the statefinder diagnostic to the MCG model with and without viscosity in $D$ dimensions and explore these parameters graphically.
We explore the cosmological models of the late-time universe based on the holographic principle, taking into account the properties of the viscosity of the dark fluid. We use the mathematical formalism of generalized infrared cutoff holographic dark energy, as presented by Nojiri and Odintsov (2017). We consider the Little Rip, the Pseudo Rip, and a bounce exponential model, with two interacting fluids, namely dark energy and dark matter in a spatially-flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe. Within these models, analytical expressions are obtained for infrared cutoffs in terms of the particl…
From a hydrodynamicist's point of view the inclusion of viscosity concepts in the macroscopic theory of the cosmic fluid would appear most natural, as an ideal fluid is after all an abstraction (excluding special cases such as superconductivity). Making use of modern observational results for the Hubble parameter plus standard Friedmann formalism, we may extrapolate the description of the universe back in time up to the inflationary era, or we may go to the opposite extreme and analyze the probable ultimate fate of the universe. In this review we discuss a variety of topics in cosmology when i…
In this paper we present two concrete models of non-perfect fluid with bulk viscosity to interpret the observed cosmic accelerating expansion phenomena, avoiding the introduction of exotic dark energy. The first model we inspect has a viscosity of the form $ζ = ζ_0 + (ζ_1-ζ_2q)H$ by taking into account of the decelerating parameter q, and the other model is of the form $ζ = ζ_0 + ζ_1H + ζ_2H^2$. We give out the exact solutions of such models and further constrain them with the latest Union2 data as well as the currently observed Hubble-parameter dataset (OHD), then we discuss the fate of unive…
We analyze the dynamics of a Bianchi I cosmology in the presence of a viscous fluid, causally regularized according to the Lichnerowicz approach. We show how the effect induced by shear viscosity is still able to produce a matter creation phenomenon, meaning that also in the regularized theory we address, the Universe is emerging from a singularity with a vanishing energy density value. We discuss the structure of the singularity in the isotropic limit, when bulk viscosity is the only retained contribution. We see that, as far as viscosity is not a dominant effect, the dynamics of the isotropi…
We consider how the five-dimensional Randall-Sundrum (one-brane) theory becomes modified when account is taken of the bulk viscosity of the cosmic fluid on the brane. We focus on the plasma era between $10^{12}$K (muon pair annihilation) to about $5\times 10^9$K (electron-positron annihilation), which includes the first order quark-hadron transition beginning at an energy density of about $5\times 10^9\rm MeV^4$. Various possibilities are examined for modeling the bulk viscosity, preference being at the end given to the results calculated from relativistic kinetic theory. According to this, th…
In this work, we present a phase space analysis of a spatially flat Friedmann $-$Robertson$-$Walker (FRW) model in which the dark matter fluid is modeled as an imperfect fluid having bulk viscosity. The bulk viscosity is governed by the Maxwell$-$Cattaneo approach. The rest of the components of the model: radiation and dark energy are treated as perfect fluids. Imposing a complete cosmological dynamics and taking into account a recent constraint on the dark matter equation of state (EOS), we obtain bound on the bulk viscosity. The results point towards the possibility of describing not only th…
The intention of this paper is mainly two-fold. \textit{First}, we point out a striking numerical agreement between the bulk viscosity in the lepton era calculated by Husdal (2016) and our own calculations of the present-day bulk viscosity when the functional form is $ζ\,\sim\sqrtρ$. From a phenomenological point of view, we thus seem to have an ansatz for the viscosity which bridges the infancy of the Universe ($\sim 1$ s) with the present. This can also be looked upon as a kind of symmetry between the early-time cosmology and the present-day cosmology: it is quite remarkable that the kinetic…
We discuss influences of bulk viscosity on the Early Universe, which is modeled by Friedmann-Robertson-Walker metric and Einstein field equations. We assume that the matter filling the isotropic and homogeneous background is relativistic viscous characterized by ultra-relativistic equations of state deduced from recent lattice QCD simulations. We obtain a set of complicated differential equations, for which we suggest approximate solutions for Hubble parameter $H$. We find that finite viscosity in Eckart and Israel-Stewart fluids would significantly modify our picture about the Early Universe.
The irrotational Bianchi V cosmological model under the influence of both shear and bulk viscosity, together with heat flux, has been studied. Exact solutions for the model are obtained with three physically viable assumptions. The first two relate the matter density, shear scalar, and expansion scalar and the third is a barotropic equation of state, connecting the matter density and thermodynamic pressure. The properties of the solutions are studied and the temperature distribution is also presented explicitly. It has been observed that along with the viscosity, heat flux further adds to the …
In this talk, we discuss one of the dissipative processes which likely take place in the Early Universe. We assume that the matter filling the isotropic and homogeneous background is to be described by a relativistic viscous fluid characterized by an ultra-relativistic equation of state and finite bulk viscosity deduced from recent lattice QCD calculations and heavy-ion collisions experiments. We concentrate our treatment to bulk viscosity as one of the essential dissipative processes in the rapidly expanding Early Universe and deduce the dependence of the scale factor and Hubble parameter on …
Dark energy of phantom or quintessence nature with an equation of state parameter $w$ almost equal to -1 often leads the universe evolution to a finite-time future singularity. An elegant solution to this problem has been recently proposed \cite{frampton11} under the form of the so-called Little Rip cosmology which appears to be a realistic alternative to the $Λ$CDM model. A viscous Little Rip cosmology is here proposed. Whereas generically bulk viscosity tends to promote the Big Rip, we find that there are a number of situations where this is not the case and where the formalism nicely adjust…
We present a new perspective on early cosmology based on Loop Quantum Gravity. We use projected spinnetworks, coherent states and spinfoam techniques, to implement a quantum reduction of the full Kinematical Hilbert space of LQG, suitable to describe inhomogeneous cosmological models. Some preliminary results on the solutions of the Scalar constraint of the reduced theory are also presented.

In this paper we construct modified cosmic Chaplygin gas which has viscosity. We use exponential function method to solve non-linear equation and obtain time-dependent dark energy density. Then discuss Hubble expansion parameter and scale factor and fix them by using observational data. We also investigate stability of this theory.
Bulk viscosity has been intrinsically existing in the observational cosmos evolution with various effects for different cosmological evolution stages endowed with complicated cosmic media. Normally in the idealized "standard cosmology" the physical viscosity effect is often negligent in some extent by assumptions, except for galaxies formation and evolution or the like astrophysics phenomena. Actually we have not fully understood the physical origin and effects of cosmic viscosity, including its functions for the universe evolution in reality. In this present article we extend the concept of t…
In this work we investigate the effects of torsion in the framework of Einstein-Cartan theory in early cosmology. We study solutions for a homogeneous and isotropic relativistic Weyssenhoff spin fluid with dynamical timelike axial current, also homogeneous and isotropic. The general solutions can mostly be described by means of three particular solutions. The properties of these solutions (such as singularity avoidance and primordial or late accelerated expansion) are analysed and depend on the relations between the source parameters.
I review the "Trans-Planckian Censorship Conjecture" (TCC) and its implications for cosmology, in particular for the inflationary universe scenario. Whereas the inflationary scenario is tightly constrained by the TCC, alternative early universe scenarios are not restricted.
Assuming that superstring theory is the fundamental theory which unifies all forces of Nature at the quantum level, I argue that there are key limitations on the applicability of effective field theory techniques in describing early universe cosmology.

We discuss the possibility to implement a viscous cosmological model, attributing to the dark matter component a behaviour described by bulk viscosity. Since bulk viscosity implies negative pressure, this rises the possibility to unify the dark sector. At the same time, the presence of dissipative effects may alleviate the so called small scale problems in the $Λ$CDM model. While the unified viscous description for the dark sector does not lead to consistent results, the non-linear behaviour indeed improves the situation with respect to the standard cosmological model.
In these lectures I focus on early universe models which can explain the currently observed structure on large scales. I begin with a survey of inflationary cosmology, the current paradigm for understanding the origin of the universe as we observe it today. I will discuss some progress and problems in inflationary cosmology before moving on to a description of two alternative scenarios - the Matter Bounce and String Gas Cosmology. All early universe models connect to observations via the evolution of cosmological perturbations - a topic which will be discussed in detail in these lectures.
Observational cosmology is in its "golden age" with a vast amount of recent data on the distribution of matter and light in the universe. This data can be used to probe theories of the very early universe. It is small amplitude cosmological fluctuations which encode the information about the very early universe and relate it to current data. Hence, a central topic in these lectures is the "theory of cosmological perturbations", the theory which describes the generation of inhomogeneities in the very early universe and their evolution until the current time. I will apply this theory to three cl…
We analyze characteristic properties of two different cosmological models: (i) a one-component dark energy model where the bulk viscosity $ζ$ is associated with the fluid as a whole, and (ii) a two-component model where $ζ$ is associated with a dark matter component $ρ_{\rm m}$ only, the dark energy component considered inviscid. Shear viscosity is omitted. We assume throughout the simple equation of state $p=wρ$, with $w$ a constant. In the one-component model we consider two possibilities, either to take $ζ$ proportional to the scalar expansion (equivalent to the Hubble parameter), in which …
Cosmological inflation is not the only early universe scenario consistent with current observational data. I will discuss the criteria for a successful early universe cosmology, compare a couple of the proposed scenarios (inflation, bouncing cosmologies, and the {\it emergent} scenario), focusing on how future observational data will be able to distinguish between them. I will argue that we need to go beyond effective field theory in order to understand the early universe, and that principles of superstring theory will yield a nonsingular cosmology.
Quantum fluctuations endow spacetime with a foamy texture. The degree of foaminess is dictated by blackhole physics to be of the holographic type. Applied to cosmology, the holographic foam model predicts the existence of dark energy with critical energy density in the current (late) universe, the quanta of which obey infinite statistics. Furthermore we use the deep similarities between turbulence and the spacetime foam phase of strong quantum gravity to argue that the early universe was in a turbulent regime when it underwent a brief cosmic inflation with a "graceful" transition to a laminar …
We discuss some aspects of the Horava-Lifshitz cosmology with different matter components considered as dominants at different stages of the cosmic evolution (each stage is represented by an equation of state pressure/density=constant). We compare cosmological solutions from this theory with their counterparts of General Relativity (Friedmann cosmology). At early times, the Horava- Lifshitz cosmology contains a curvature-dependent dominant term which is stiff matter-reminiscent and this fact motivates to discuss, in some detail, this term beside the usual stiff matter component (pressure=densi…
We show that standard puzzles of hot Big Bang cosmology that motivated the introduction of cosmological inflation, such as the smoothness and horizon problem, the flatness problem and the relic problem are also solved by holographic models for very early universe based on perturbative three dimensional QFT. In the holographic setup, cosmic evolution is mapped to inverse renormalization group (RG) flow of the dual QFT, and the resolution of the puzzles relies on properties of the RG flow.
