We prove the convergence of Kähler-Ricci flow with some small initial curvature conditions. As applications, we discuss the convergence of Kähler-Ricci flow when the complex structure varies on a Kähler-Einstein manifold.
Let $M^n$ be a compact K$\ddot{a}$hler manifold with almost nonnegative Ricci curvature and nonzero first Betti number. We show that the holomorphic Euler number of $M^n$ vanishes, which gives a new obstruction for compact complex manifolds admitting K$\ddot{a}$hler metrics with almost nonnegative Ricci curvature. A crucial step in the proof is to show a vanishing theorem of Dolbeault-Morse-Novikov cohomology.
We develop a parabolic pluripotential theory on compact K{ä}hler manifolds, defining and studying weak solutions to degenerate parabolic complex Monge-Amp{è}re equations. We provide a parabolic analogue of the celebrated Bedford-Taylor theory and apply it to the study of the K{ä}hler-Ricci flow on varieties with log terminal singularities.
For any complete noncompact K$\ddot{a}$hler manifold with nonnegative and bounded holomorphic bisectional curvature,we provide the necessary and sufficient condition for non-ancient solution to the Ricci flow in this paper.
In this paper we prove that for a complete, connected and oriented Käler affine manifold $(M,G)$ of dimension $n,$ if it is Kähler affine Ricci flat or the K$\ddot{a}$hler affine scalar curvature $S\equiv0,$ ($n\leq 5$), then the universal covering manifold $\widetilde{M}$ of $M$ is isometric to the Euclidean n-space $E^{n}$.
We establish a stability result for elliptic and parabolic complex Monge-Amp{è}re equations on compact K{ä}hler manifolds, which applies in particular to the K{ä}hler-Ricci flow. Dedicated to Jean-Pierre Demailly on the occasion of his 60th birthday.
By establishing two general quadratic inequalities, we obtain some inequalities related to Ricci curvatures for Lagrangian submanifolds of K$\ddot{\mathrm{a}}$hler QCH-manifolds, which generalize some results for Lagrangian submanifolds of complex space forms.
We study pluripotential complex Monge-Ampère flows in big cohomology classes on compact K{ä}hler manifolds. We use the Perron method, considering pluripotential subsolutions to the Cauchy problem. We prove that, under natural assumptions on the data, the upper envelope of all subsolutions is continuous in space and semi-concave in time, and provides a unique pluripotential solution with such regularity. We apply this theory to study pluripotential K{ä}hler-Ricci flows on compact K{ä}hler manifolds of general type as well as on stable varieties.
Let $(M^3,g_0)$ be a complete noncompact Riemannian 3-manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature and with injectivity radius bounded away from zero. Suppose that the scalar curvature $R(x)\to 0$ as $x\to \infty$. Then the Ricci flow with initial data $(M^3,g_0)$ has a long time solution. This extends a recent result of Ma and Zhu. We also have a higher dimensional version, and we reprove a K$\ddot{a}$hler analogy due to Chau, Tam and Yu.
We prove that if an ALE Ricci-flat manifold $(M,g)$ is linearly stable and integrable, it is dynamically stable under Ricci flow, i.e. any Ricci flow starting close to g exists for all time and converges modulo diffeomorphism to an ALE Ricci-flat metric close to $g$. By adapting Tian's approach in the closed case, we show that integrability holds for ALE Calabi-Yau manifolds which implies that they are dynamically stable.
In this paper, we prove that Kähler-Ricci flow converges to a Kähler-Einstein metric (or a Kähler-Ricci soliton) in the sense of Cheeger-Gromov as long as an initial Kähler metric is very closed to $g_{KE}$ (or $g_{KS}$) if a compact Kähler manifold with $c_1(M)>0$ admits a Kähler Einstein metric $g_{KE}$ (or a Kähler-Ricci soliton $g_{KS}$). The result improves Main Theorem in [TZ3] in the sense of stability of Kähler-Ricci flow.
We study stability of non-compact gradient Kaehler-Ricci flow solitons with positive holomorphic bisectional curvature. Our main result is that any compactly supported perturbation and appropriately decaying perturbations of the Kaehler potential of the soliton will converge to the original soliton under Kaehler-Ricci flow as time tends to infinity. To obtain this result, we construct appropriate barriers and introduce an L^p-norm that decays for these barriers with non-negative Ricci curvature.
We introduce certain spherically symmetric singular Ricci solitons and study their stability under the Ricci flow from a dynamical PDE point of view. The solitons in question exist for all dimensions $n+1\ge 3$, and all have a point singularity where the curvature blows up; their evolution under the Ricci flow is in sharp contrast to the evolution of their smooth counterparts. In particular, the family of diffeomorphisms associated with the Ricci flow "pushes away" from the singularity causing the evolving soliton to open up immediately becoming an incomplete (but non-singular) metric. In the …
We consider the volume-normalized Ricci flow close to compact shrinking Ricci solitons. We show that if a compact Ricci soliton $(M,g)$ is a local maximum of Perelman's shrinker entropy, any normalized Ricci flow starting close to it exists for all time and converges towards a Ricci soliton. If $g$ is not a local maximum of the shrinker entropy, we show that there exists a nontrivial normalized Ricci flow emerging from it. These theorems are analogues of results in the Ricci-flat and in the Einstein case.
In this paper we have found some commutator formulas between $div_{f},Δ_{f,L},div_{f}^\dagger,Δ_{f}$ on closed orientable $GRS^+$ metrics (Gradient Ricci Shrinker), then with them we have generalized a Theorem of Cao and Zhu about necessary condition for linear stability of a $GRS^+$.
In this article, we introduce a new method (based on Perelman's lambda-functional) to study the stability of compact Ricci-flat metrics. Under the assumption that all infinitesimal Ricci-flat deformations are integrable we prove: (A) a Ricci-flat metric is a local maximizer of lambda in a C^2,alpha-sense iff its Lichnerowicz Laplacian is nonpositive, (B) lambda satisfies a Lojasiewicz-Simon gradient inequality, (C) the Ricci flow does not move excessively in gauge directions. As consequences, we obtain a rigidity result, a new proof of Sesum's dynamical stability theorem, and a dynamical insta…
We study the Ricci flow for initial metrics which are C^0 small perturbations of the Euclidean metric on R^n. In the case that this metric is asymptotically Euclidean, we show that a Ricci harmonic map heat flow exists for all times, and converges uniformly to the Euclidean metric as time approaches infinity. In proving this stability result, we introduce a monotone integral quantity which measures the deviation of the evolving metric from the Euclidean metric. We also investigate the convergence of the diffeomorphisms relating Ricci harmonic map heat flow to Ricci flow.
We consider dynamical stability for a modified Ricci flow equation whose stationary solutions include Einstein and Ricci soliton metrics. Our focus is on homogeneous metrics on non-compact manifolds. Following the program of Guenther, Isenberg, and Knopf, we define a class of weighted little Hölder spaces with certain interpolation properties that allow the use of maximal regularity theory and the application of a stability theorem of Simonett. With this, we derive two stability theorems, one for a class of Einstein metrics and one for a class of non-Einstein Ricci solitons. Using linear stabi…
In this short note, we observe that the Bamler-Kleiner proof of uniqueness and stability for 3-dimensional Ricci flow through singularities generalizes to singular Ricci flows in higher dimensions that satisfy an analogous canonical neighborhood property. In particular, this gives a canonical evolution through singularities for manifolds with positive isotropic curvature. The new ingredients we use are the recent classification of higher dimensional $κ$-solutions by Brendle, Daskalopoulos, Naff and Sesum, and the maximum principle for the linearized Ricci-DeTurck flow on locally conformally fl…
Assuming uniform bounds for the curvature, the exponential convergence of the Kähler-Ricci flow is established under two conditions which are a form of stability: the Mabuchi energy is bounded from below, and the dimension of the space of holomorphic vector fields in an orbit of the diffeomorphism group cannot jump up in the limit.
This paper studies the normalized Ricci flow from a slight perturbation of the hyperbolic metric on $\mathbb H^n$. It's proved that if the perturbation is small and decays sufficiently fast at the infinity, then the flow will converge exponentially fast to the hyperbolic metric when the dimension $n>5$.
We prove dynamical stability and instability theorems for compact Einstein metrics under the Ricci flow. We give a nearly complete charactarization of dynamical stability and instability in terms of the conformal Yamabe invariant and the Laplace spectrum. In particular, we prove dynamical stability of some classes of Einstein manifolds for which it was previously not known. Additionally, we show that the complex projective space with the Fubini-Study metric is surprisingly dynamically unstable.
We study the Ricci flow of initial metrics which are C^0-perturbations of the hyperbolic metric on H^n. If the perturbation is bounded in the L^2-sense, and small enough in the C^0-sense, then we show the following: In dimensions four and higher, the scaled Ricci harmonic map heat flow of such a metric converges smoothly, uniformly and exponentially fast in all C^k-norms and in the L^2-norm to the hyperbolic metric as time approaches infinity. We also prove a related result for the Ricci flow and for the two-dimensional conformal Ricci flow.
In this paper, we study the stability of the conical Kähler-Ricci flows on Fano manifolds. That is, if there exists a conical Kähler-Einstein metric with cone angle $2πβ$ along the divisor, then for any $β'$ sufficiently close to $β$, the corresponding conical Kähler-Ricci flow converges to a conical Kähler-Einstein metric with cone angle $2πβ'$ along the divisor. Here, we only use the condition that the Log Mabuchi energy is bounded from below. This is a weaker condition than the properness that we have adopted to study the convergence before. As corollaries, we give parabolic proofs of Donal…
Important models for immortal solutions of Ricci flow that collapse with bounded curvature come from locally G-invariant solutions on principal bundles, where G is a nilpotent Lie group. In this paper, we establish convergence and asymptotic stability, modulo smooth finite-dimensional center manifolds, of certain R^{N}-invariant solutions. When the dimension of the total space is three, these results are relevant to work of Lott classifying the asymptotic behavior of all 3-dimensional Ricci flow solutions whose sectional curvatures and diameters are respectively O(t^{-1}) and O(t^{1/2}).
We show that every finite volume hyperbolic manifold of dimension greater or equal to 3 is stable under rescaled Ricci flow, i.e. that every small perturbation of the hyperbolic metric flows back to the hyperbolic metric again. Note that we do not need to make any decay assumptions on this perturbation. It will turn out that the main difficulty in the proof comes from a weak stability of the cusps which has to do with infinitesimal cusp deformations. We will overcome this weak stability by using a new analytical method developed by Koch and Lamm.
As a step toward understanding the analytic behavior of Type-III Ricci flow singularities, i.e. immortal solutions that exhibit |Rm|<C/t curvature decay, we examine the linearization of an equivalent flow at fixed points discovered recently by Baird--Danielo and Lott: nongradient homogeneous expanding Ricci solitons on nilpotent or solvable Lie groups. For all explicitly known nonproduct examples, we demonstrate linear stability of the flow at these fixed points and prove that the linearizations generate strongly continuous semigroups.
Using the maximal regularity theory for quasilinear parabolic systems, we prove two stability results of complex hyperbolic space under the curvature-normalized Ricci flow in complex dimensions two and higher. The first result is on a closed manifold. The second result is on a complete noncompact manifold. To prove both results, we fully analyze the structure of the Lichnerowicz Laplacian on complex hyperbolic space. To prove the second result, we also define suitably weighted little Hölder spaces on a complete noncompact manifold and establish their interpolation properties.
The principle of convergence stability for geometric flows is the combination of the continuous dependence of the flow on initial conditions, with the stability of fixed points. It implies that if the flow from an initial state $g_0$ exists for all time and converges to a stable fixed point, then the flows of solutions that start near $g_0$ also converge to fixed points. We show this in the case of the Ricci flow, carefully proving the continuous dependence on initial conditions. Symmetry assumptions on initial geometries are often made to simplify geometric flow equations. As an application o…
We verify a conjecture of Perelman, which states that there exists a canonical Ricci flow through singularities starting from an arbitrary compact Riemannian 3-manifold. Our main result is a uniqueness theorem for such flows, which, together with an earlier existence theorem of Lott and the second named author, implies Perelman's conjecture. We also show that this flow through singularities depends continuously on its initial condition and that it may be obtained as a limit of Ricci flows with surgery. Our results have applications to the study of diffeomorphism groups of three manifolds --- i…
In this paper we establish stability of the Ricci de Turck flow near Ricci-flat metrics with isolated conical singularities. More precisely, we construct a Ricci de Turck flow which starts sufficiently close to a Ricci-flat metric with isolated conical singularities and converges to a singular Ricci-flat metric under an assumption of integrability, linear and tangential stability. We provide a characterization of conical singularities satisfying tangential stability and discuss examples where the integrability condition is satisfied.
In this work we study properties of stability and non-stability of harmonic maps under the homogeneous Ricci flow. We provide examples where the stability (non-stability) is preserved under the Ricci flow and an example where the Ricci flow does not preserve the stability of an harmonic map.
We study the stability of non compact steady and expanding gradient Ricci solitons. We first show that strict linear stability implies dynamical stability. Then we give various sufficient geometric conditions ensuring the strict linear stability of such gradient Ricci solitons.
In this paper, we shall use the Kähler geometry formulation to study the global behavior of the Ricci flow on $R^2$. The geometric feature of our Ricci flow is that it has finite width. Our aim is to determine the limiting metric (which corresponds an eternal Ricci flow) obtained by L.F.Wu. We can use the classification result of Daskalopoulos-Sesum to give a sufficient condition such that the limiting metric of L.F.Wu is the metric of cigar soliton.
We can talk about two kinds of stability of the Ricci flow at Ricci flat metrics. One of them is a linear stability, defined with respect to Perelman's functional $\mathcal{F}$. The other one is a dynamical stability and it refers to a convergence of a Ricci flow starting at any metric in a neighbourhood of a considered Ricci flat metric. We show that dynamical stability implies linear stability. We also show that a linear stability together with the integrability assumption imply dynamical stability. As a corollary we get a stability result for $K3$ surfaces part of which has been done in \ci…
In this short article, we improve the dynamical stability and instability results for Ricci-flat metrics under Ricci flow proved by Sesum and Haslhofer, getting rid of the integrability assumption.
We provide a sufficient condition for the local stability of closed Einstein manifolds of positive Ricci curvature under the Ricci iteration in terms of the spectrum of the Lichnerowicz Laplacian acting on divergence-free tensor fields. We use this result to consider the stability of several Einstein manifolds under the Ricci iteration, including symmetric spaces of compact type.
We investigate the linear stability of Kähler-Ricci solitons for perturbations induced by varying the complex structure within a fixed Kähler class. We calculate stability for the known examples of Kähler-Ricci solitons.
We study the stability and instability of ALE Ricci-flat metrics around which a Lojasiewicz inequality is satisfied for a variation of Perelman's $λ$-functional adapted to the ALE situation and denoted $λ_{\operatorname{ALE}}$. This functional was introduced by the authors in a recent work and it has been proven that it satisfies a good enough Lojasiewicz inequality at least in neighborhoods of integrable ALE Ricci-flat metrics in dimension larger than or equal to 5.
We consider four extended Ricci flow systems---that is, Ricci flow coupled with other geometric flows---and prove dynamical stability of certain classes of stationary solutions of these flows. The systems include Ricci flow coupled with harmonic map flow (studied abstractly and in the context of Ricci flow on warped products), Ricci flow coupled with both harmonic map flow and Yang-Mills flow, and Ricci flow coupled with heat flow for the torsion of a metric-compatible connection. The methods used to prove stability follow a program outlined by Guenther, Isenberg, and Knopf, which uses maximal…
In previous work, the authors studied the linear stability of algebraic Ricci solitons on simply connected solvable Lie groups (solvsolitons), which are stationary solutions of a certain normalization of Ricci flow. Many examples were shown to be linearly stable, leading to the conjecture that all solvsolitons are linearly stable. This paper makes progress towards that conjecture, showing that expanding Ricci solitons with bounded curvature (including solvsolitons) are linearly stable after extension by a Gaussian soliton. As in the previous work, the dynamical stability follows from a general…
In this short note, we will prove a volume stability theorem which says that if an n-dimensional toric manifold $M$ admits a $\mathbb{T}^n$ invariant Kähler metric $ω$ with Ricci curvature no less than 1 and its volume is close to the volume of $\mathbb{CP}^n$, $M$ is bi-holomorphic to $\mathbb{CP}^n$.
In this announcement, we exhibit the second variation of Perelman's $λ$ and $ν$ functionals for the Ricci flow, and investigate the linear stability of examples. We also define the "central density" of a shrinking Ricci soliton and compute its values for certain examples in dimension 4. Using these tools, one can sometimes predict or limit the formation of singularities in the Ricci flow. In particular, we show that certain Einstein manifolds are unstable for the Ricci flow in the sense that generic perturbations acquire higher entropy and thus can never return near the original metric.
We show two stability results for a closed Riemannian manifold whose Ricci curvature is small in the Kato sense and whose first Betti number is equal to the dimension. The first one is a geometric stability result stating that such a manifold is Gromov-Hausdorff close to a flat torus. The second one states that, under a stronger assumption, such a manifold is diffeomorphic to a torus: this extends a result by Colding and Cheeger-Colding obtained in the context of a lower bound on the Ricci curvature.
In this article, we thoroughly investigate the stability inequality for Ricci-flat cones. Perhaps most importantly, we prove that the Ricci-flat cone over CP^2 is stable, showing that the first stable non-flat Ricci-flat cone occurs in the smallest possible dimension. On the other hand, we prove that many other examples of Ricci-flat cones over 4-manifolds are unstable, and that Ricci-flat cones over products of Einstein manifolds and over Kahler-Einstein manifolds with h^(1,1)>1 are unstable in dimension less than 10. As results of independent interest, our computations indicate that the Page…
This is a short note proving that Kähler-Ricci solitons with $\dim H^{(1,1)}(M)\ge 2$ are linearly unstable. This extends the results of Cao-Hamilton-Ilmanen in the Kähler-Einstein case.
We show that the coercivity of the modified Ding functional leads to the existence of a certain kind of balanced metrics and their convergence to the Kähler-Ricci soliton modulo automorphisms. In our results, we do not assume that the vanishing of the higher order modified Futaki invariants introduced by Berman-Nyström.
Let $P$ be a principal U(1)-bundle over a closed manifold $M$. On $P$, one can define a modified version of the Ricci flow called the Ricci Yang-Mills flow, due to these equations being a coupling of Ricci flow and the Yang-Mills heat flow. We use maximal regularity theory and ideas of Simonett concerning the asymptotic behavior of abstract quasilinear parabolic partial differential equations to study the stability of the volume-normalized Ricci Yang-Mills flow at Einstein Yang-Mills metrics in dimension two. In certain cases, we show the presence of a center manifold of fixed points, while in…
In this expository note, we study the second variation of Perelman's entropy on the space of Kahler metrics at a Kähler-Ricci soliton. We prove that the entropy is stable in the sense of variations. In particular, Perelman's entropy is stable along the Kähler-Ricci flow. The Chinese version of this note has appeared in a volume in honor of professor K.C.Chang (Scientia Sinica Math., 46 (2016), 685-696).
In this work, we (partially) generalize two classical tools in study of collapsed manifolds with bounded sectional curvature: a (singular) fibration theorem by Fukaya (1987) and Cheeger-Fukaya-Gromov (1992), and the stability for isometric compact Lie group actions on manifolds by Palais (1961) and Grove-Karcher (1973), to manifolds with local bounded Ricci covering geometry. Our two generalized results have been used in a recent work of Xiaochun Rong in generalizing Gromov's almost flat manifolds theorem to maximally collapsed manifolds with local bounded Ricci covering geometry.
