Cross sections and analyzing powers for proton elastic scattering from $^{116,118,120,122,124}$Sn at 295 MeV have been measured for a momentum transfer of up to about 3.5 fm$^{-1}$ to deduce systematic changes of the neutron density distribution. We tuned the relativistic Love-Franey interaction to explain the proton elastic scattering of a nucleus whose density distribution is well known. Then, we applied this interaction to deduce the neutron density distributions of tin isotopes. The result of our analysis shows the clear systematic behavior of a gradual increase in the neutron skin thickness of tin isotopes with mass number.
Thirty-eight tin isotopes have so far been observed; the discovery of these isotopes is discussed. For each isotope a brief summary of the first refereed publication, including the production and identification method, is presented.
Currently, twenty-four calcium, thirty-eight indium, thirty-eight tin and thirty-nine platinum isotopes have been observed and the discovery of these isotopes is discussed here. For each isotope a brief synopsis of the first refereed publication, including the production and identification method, is presented.
In the given paper the total inelastic cross-sections of the reactions of protons and deuterons on nuclear targets of enriched tin isotopes were compared. The factorization of cross-sections of reactions was discussed. Furthermore, the comparison of theoretical estimations on total inelastic cross-sections with corresponding experimental ones was made.
The coefficients of symmetry energy term for fragments with Z=4,11,12 measured in multifragmentation reactions initiated by proton and deuteron with energy of 3.65A GeV on enriched tin isotopes 112,118,120,124Sn are determined. The dependence of isoscaling parameter on the excitation energy, the temperature of fragmenting systems and the density ratio for heavy mass products are analised.
The $^{112,120}$Sn$(γ,γ')$ reactions have been studied at the S-DALINAC. Electric dipole (E1) strength distributions have been determined including contributions from unresolved strength extracted by a fluctuation analysis. Together with available data on $^{116,124}$Sn, an experimental systematics of the pygmy dipole resonance (PDR) in stable even-mass tin isotopes is established. The PDR centroid excitation energies and summed strengths are in reasonable agreement with quasiparticle-phonon model calculations based on a nonrelativistic description of the mean field but disagree with relativis…
Isospin effects in 12C ion induced reactions on enriched tin isotopes are investigated. The isoscaling parameter B is determined for different mass regions of product nuclei. It is shown that the isoscaling parameter is sensitive to the formation mechanism of products, and increases as the difference in the asymmetry is increasing. Using the exitatation energy obtained with the catcher technique temperatures, density ratio ro/ro0 for product nuclei in different mass regions and the values of symmetry energy coefficient for light mass regions of product nuclei for proton and deuteron induced re…
The isoscalar giant monopole resonance (GMR) has been investigated in a series of Sn isotopes (A=112--124) using inelstic scattering of 400-MeV alpha particles at extremely forward angles (including 0deg). The primary aim of the investigation has been to explore the role of the "symmetry-energy" term in the expression for nuclear incompressibility. It is found that the energies of the GMR in the Sn isotopes are significantly lower than those expected from the nuclear incompressibility previously extracted from the available data on the compressional-mode giant resonances.
The x-ray cascade from antiprotonic atoms was studied for 106Cd, 116Cd, 112Sn, 116Sn, 120Sn, and 124Sn. Widths and shifts of the levels due to strong interaction were deduced. Isotopic effects in the Cd and Sn isotopes are clearly seen. The results are used to investigate the nucleon density in the nuclear periphery. The deduced neutron distributions are compared with the results of the previously introduced radiochemical method and with HFB calculations.
The cross sections of 70Ge(n,2n)69Ge, 72Ge(n,2n)71Ge, 76Ge(n,gamma)77(g+0.21m)Ge, 76Ge(n,2n)75Ge nuclear reactions were measured at the energy of neutrons 13.96(6) MeV by activation method with gamma-ray and X-ray spectra studies.
We present a systematic configuration-interaction shell model calculation on the structure of light tin isotopes with a new global optimized effective interaction. The starting point of the calculation is the realistic CD-Bonn nucleon-nucleon potential. The unknown single-particle energies of the $1d_{3/2}$, $2s_{1/2}$ and $0h_{11/2}$ orbitals and the T=1 monopole interactions are determined by fitting to the binding energies of 157 low-lying yrast states in $^{102-132}$Sn. We apply the Hamiltonian to analyze the origin of the spin inversion between $^{101}$Sn and $^{103}$Sn that was observed …
A search for the various double beta decay modes of 124Sn and 112Sn has been performed on 75 kg.days of data. New half-life limits for excited states in 124Sn have been obtained including a lower limit for the decay into the first excited 2+ state of 124Te of T_half > 0.87e20 yrs (90% CL) and into the first excited 0+ state of T_half > 1.08e20 yrs (90% CL). Ground state and excited state transitions of 112Sn have also been experimentally explored. A limit for the 2 neutrino double electron capture of T_half > 1.8e19 yrs (90% CL) is obtained. The non-observation of de-excitation gammas from the…
In this work we propose to investigate the cluster structure of the excited states of nuclei produced in the photodisintegration reactions on 6 Li and 7Li targets, with three bodies (clusters and nucleons) in final state using bremsstrahlung and linear polarized beams. The analysis of the experimental data with the use of Dalitz diagrams allows to investigate 16 cluster structures of 9 isotopes of H, He and Li nuclei in four reactions of photodisintegration with the above-mentioned targets.
We measure cross sections for residual nuclide formation in the mass range 6 < A < 97 caused by bombardment with protons and deuterons of 3.65 GeV/nucleon energy of enriched tin isotopes (112-Sn, 118-Sn, 120-Sn, 124-Sn). The experimental data are compared with calculations by the codes FLUKA, LAHET, CEM03, and LAQGSM03. Scaling behavior is observed for the whole mass region of residual nuclei, showing a possible multifragmentation mechanism for the formation of light products (6 < A < 31). Our analysis of the isoscaling dependence also shows a possible contribution of multifragmentation to the…
By studying the 109Xe-->105Te-->101Sn superallowed alpha-decay chain, we observe low-lying states in 101Sn, the one-neutron system outside doubly magic 100Sn. We find that the spins of the ground state (J = 7=2) and first excited state (J = 5=2) in 101Sn are reversed with respect to the traditional level ordering postulated for 103Sn and the heavier tin isotopes. Through simple arguments and state-of-the-art shell model calculations we explain this unexpected switch in terms of a transition from the single-particle regime to the collective mode in which orbital-dependent pairing correlations, …
We studied the production of neutron-rich nuclides in multinucleon transfer collisions of stable and radioactive beams in the mass range A=40-60. We first presented our experimental cross section data of projectile fragments from the reaction of 40Ar(15 MeV/nucleon) with 64Ni, 58Ni and 27Al. We then compared them with calculations based on either the deep-inelastic transfer (DIT) model or the constrained molecular dynamics (CoMD) model, followed by the statistical multifragmentation model (SMM). An overall good agreement of the calculations with the experimental data is obtained. We continued …
The dipole polarizability of stable even-mass tin isotopes 112,114,116,118,120,124 was extracted from inelastic proton scattering experiments at 295 MeV under very forward angles performed at RCNP. Predictions from energy density functionals cannot account for the present data and the polarizability of 208Pb simultaneously. The evolution of the polarizabilities in neighboring isotopes indicates a kink at 120Sn while all model results show a nearly linear increase with mass number after inclusion of pairing corrections.
We link the structure of nuclei around $^{100}$Sn, the heaviest doubly magic nucleus with equal neutron and proton numbers ($N=Z=50$), to nucleon-nucleon ($NN$) and three-nucleon ($NNN$) forces constrained by data of few-nucleon systems. Our results indicate that $^{100}$Sn is doubly magic, and we predict its quadrupole collectivity. We present precise computations of $^{101}$Sn based on three-particle--two-hole excitations of $^{100}$Sn, and reproduce the small splitting between the lowest $J^π=7/2^+$ and $5/2^+$ states. Our results are consistent with the sparse available data.

We show in the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock approach that unambiguous correlations exist between observables of finite nuclei and nuclear matter properties. Using this correlation analysis to existing data on the neutron skin thickness of Sn isotopes, we find important constraints on the value E_{sym}(rho_0) and density slope L of the nuclear symmetry energy at saturation density. Combining these constraints with those from recent analyses of isospin diffusion and double neutron/proton ratio in heavy ion collisions leads to a value of L=58\pm 18 MeV approximately independent of E_{sym}(ρ_0).
The occupancies and vacancies of the valence neutron orbitals across the stable tin isotopic chain from $112\leq A\leq 124$ have been determined. These were inferred from the cross sections of neutron-adding and -removing reactions. In each case, the reactions were chosen to have good angular-momentum matching for transfer to the low- and high-$\ell$ orbitals present in this valence space. These new data are compared to older systematic studies. The effective single-neutron energies are determined by combining information from energy centroids determined from the adding and removing reactions.…
The cross sections and velocity distributions of projectile-like fragments from the reaction of 25 MeV/nucleon 86Kr + 64Ni have been measured using the MARS recoil separator at Texas A&M, with special emphasis on the neutron rich isotopes. Proton-removal and neutron pick-up isotopes have been observed with large cross sections. A model of deep-inelastic transfer (DIT) for the primary interaction stage and the statistical evaporation code GEMINI for the deexcitation stage have been used to describe the properties of the product distributions. The results have also been compared with the EPAX pa…
The intensity interferometry is applied as a chronometer of the particle emission of hydrogen isotopes from the intermediate velocity source formed in $^{40}$Ar+$^{197}$Au reactions at 30 MeV/u. The dynamic emission order of $τ_{\rm p}>τ_{\rm d}>τ_{\rm t}$ is evidenced via the correlation functions of nonidentical particle pairs. Assuming the similar source size, the same emission order is inferred from the correlation functions of identical particle pairs, where $τ_{\rm p} \approx 100 {\rm ~fm/c}$ is extracted by the fit of Koonin-Pratt equation to p-p correlation function. Transport model si…
Cross sections of the residual nuclei production in $^{129}$I, $^{237}$Np and $^{241}$Am target irradiated by proton beam with energy 660 MeV are measured by means of activation analysis with the use of HPGe detectors. The number of product nuclei identified amounts to 74 for $^{129}$I target, 53 for $^{237}$Np target and 80 for $^{241}$Am target. Theoretical model analysis employing eleven contemporary computer models of hadron-nuclear interactions is performed. Insufficient for practical purposes precision of modelling of the reactions under study is demonstrated. Methods for short-lived bet…
A search for new isotopes using in-flight fission of a 345 MeV/nucleon 238U beam has been carried out at the RI Beam Factory at the RIKEN Nishina Center. Fission fragments were analyzed and identified by using the superconducting in-flight separator BigRIPS. We observed 45 new neutron-rich isotopes: 71Mn, 73,74Fe, 76Co, 79Ni, 81,82Cu, 84,85Zn, 87Ga, 90Ge, 95Se, 98Br, 101Kr, 103Rb, 106,107Sr, 108,109Y, 111,112Zr, 114,115Nb, 115,116,117Mo, 119,120Tc, 121,122,123,124Ru, 123,124,125,126Rh, 127,128Pd, 133Cd, 138Sn, 140Sb, 143Te, 145I, 148Xe, and 152Ba.
A so-called "two-step reaction scheme", in which neutron-rich rare isotopes obtained from ISOL are post-accelerated and bombarded on a second target, is employed to estimate the production yields of exotic rare isotopes. The production yields of neutron-rich rare isotope fragments induced by 200 MeV/u $^{132}$Sn beams bombarded on a $^{9}$Be target are estimated with Monte Carlo code, GEANT4. To substantiate the use of GEANT4 for this study, benchmark calculations are done for 80 MeV/u $^{59}$Co, 95 MeV/u $^{72}$Zn, 500 MeV/u $^{92}$Mo, and 950 MeV/u $^{132}$Sn beams on the $^{9}$Be target. It…
For the first time an extensive search for various double beta decay modes of 124Sn and 112Sn has been performed. A total exposure of 43.29 kg.days has been accumulated. New half-life limits of 124Sn into excited states of 124Te have been obtained; the lower half-life limit for the first excited 2+ state at 602.7keV is T_1/2 > 3.1 *10^{18}yrs (90 % CL) and for the first excited 0+ state T_1/2 > 7.7 *10^{18}yrs (90 % CL). For the very first time, ground state and excited state transitions of 112Sn have been experimentally explored. The obtained half-life limits for ECEC and beta+/EC into the fi…
The analysis results of the isotopic yields for products obtained in reactions of protons at energies 0.66, 1, 8.1GeV with separated tin isotopes are presented. The experimental data are compared in form of reactions of element cross sections for two targets of different isotope compositions. The scaling behaviour have been shown in the dependence of this ratios from neutron and proton composition at the reaction products. The discussion of scaling parameters allows to explain the mechanism of light and medium mass fragment production.
The distribution of isoscalar monopole strength in the neutron-even 112-124Sn-isotopes has been computed using a relativistic random-phase-approximation approach. The accurately-calibrated model used here (``FSUGold'') has been successful in reproducing both ground-state observables as well as collective excitations - including the giant monopole resonance (GMR) in 90Zr, 144Sm, and 208Pb. Yet this same model significantly overestimates the GMR energies in the Sn isotopes. It is argued that the question of ``Why is Tin so soft?'' becomes an important challenge to the field and one that should b…
We have investigated the isoscalar giant monopole resonance (GMR) in the Sn isotopes, using inelastic scattering of 400-MeV $α$-particles at extremely forward angles, including 0 deg. A value of -550 \pm 100 MeV has been obtained for the asymmetry term, $K_τ$, in the nuclear incompressibility.
"Why are the tin isotopes soft?" has remained, for the past decade, an open problem in nuclear structure physics: models which reproduce the isoscalar giant monopole resonance (ISGMR) in the "doubly-closed shell" nuclei, $^{90}$Zr and $^{208}$Pb, overestimate the ISGMR energies of the open-shell tin and cadmium nuclei, by as much as 1 MeV. In an effort to shed some light onto this problem, we present results of detailed studies of the ISGMR in the molybdenum nuclei, with the goal of elucidating where--and how--the softness manifests itself between $^{90}$Zr and the cadmium and tin isotopes. Th…
The isoscalar giant monopole resonance (ISGMR) in even-A Cd isotopes has been studied by inelastic $α$-scattering at 100 MeV/u and at extremely forward angles, including 0deg. The asymmetry term in the nuclear incompressibility extracted from the ISGMR in Cd isotopes is found to be $K_τ = -555 \pm 75$ MeV, confirming the value previously obtained from the Sn isotopes. ISGMR strength has been computed in relativistic RPA using NL3 and FSUGold effective interactions. Both models significantly overestimate the centroids of the ISGMR strength in the Cd isotopes. Combined with other recent theoreti…
Direct reaction techniques are powerful tools to study the single-particle nature of nuclei. Performing direct reactions on short-lived nuclei requires radioactive ion beams produced either via fragmentation or the Isotope Separation OnLine (ISOL) method. Some of the most interesting regions to study with direct reactions are close to the magic numbers where changes in shell structure can be tracked. These changes can impact the final abundances of explosive nucleosynthesis. The structure of the chain of tin isotopes is strongly influenced by the Z=50 proton shell closure, as well as the neutr…
The production of alpha particle decaying heavy nuclei in reactions of 7.5-6.1 MeV/nucleon $^{238}$U +$^{232}$Th has been explored using an in-beam detection array composed of YAP scintillators and gas ionization chamber-Si telescopes. Comparisons of alpha energies and half-lives for the observed products with those of the previously known isotopes and with theoretically predicted values indicate the observation of a number of previously unreported alpha emitters. Alpha particle decay energies reaching as high as 12 MeV are observed. Many of these are expected to be from decay of previously un…
The cross sections of the nuclear reactions induced by neutrons at $E_n$= 14.6 MeV on the isotopes of Dy, Er, Yb with emission of neutrons, proton and alpha-particle are studied by the use of new experimental data and different theoretical approaches. New and improved experimental data are measured by the neutron-activation technique. The experimental and evaluated data from EXFOR, TENDL, ENDF libraries are compared with different systematics and calculations by codes of EMPIRE~3.0 and TALYS~1.2. Contribution of pre-equilibrium decay is discussed. Different systematics for estimations of the c…
The distribution of electromagnetic dipole strength in 92, 98, 100 Mo has been investigated by photon scattering using bremsstrahlung from the new ELBE facility. The experimental data for well separated nuclear resonances indicate a transition from a regular to a chaotic behaviour above 4 MeV of excitation energy. As the strength distributions follow a Porter-Thomas distribution much of the dipole strength is found in weak and in unresolved resonances appearing as fluctuating cross section. An analysis of this quasi-continuum - here applied to nuclear resonance fluorescence in a novel way - de…
Exclusive measurements of high energy $γ$-rays are performed in $\rm ^{124}Ba$ and $\rm ^{136}Ba$ at the same excitation energy ($\sim$ 49 MeV), to study properties of the giant dipole resonance (GDR) over a wider $N/Z$ range. The high energy $γ$-rays are measured in coincidence with the multiplicity of low energy $γ$-rays to disentangle the effect of temperature ($T$) and angular momentum ($J$). The GDR parameters are extracted employing a simulated Monte Carlo statistical model analysis. The observed $γ$-ray spectra of $\rm ^{124}Ba$ can be explained with prolate deformation, whereas a singl…
Neutron- and proton-induced fission cross-sections of separated isotopes of tungsten (182W, 183W, 184W, and 186W) and natural tungsten relative to 209Bi have been measured in the incident nucleon energy region 50-200 MeV using fission chambers based on thin-film breakdown counters (TFBC) at quasi-monoenergetic neutrons from the 7Li(p,n) reaction and at the proton beams of The Svedberg Laboratory (TSL), Uppsala University (Uppsala, Sweden). The preliminary experimental data are presented in comparison with the recent data for nuclei in the lead-bismuth region, as well as with predictions by the…
Yields of isotopically separated light fragments and residual nuclei produced in p(1GeV)+A collisions have been analyzed. For both fragmentation and spallation reactions isotopic scaling, i.e. factorization of the isotope ratios, was observed. A generalized isoscaling for arbitrary combinations of two systems has been demonstrated. The average isotopic temperature about 4 MeV for fragmentation process was found.

The strength distributions of the giant monopole resonance (GMR) have been measured in the even-A Sn isotopes (A=112--124) with inelastic scattering of 400-MeV $α$ particles in the angular range $0^\circ$--$8.5^\circ$. We find that the experimentally-observed GMR energies of the Sn isotopes are lower than the values predicted by theoretical calculations that reproduce the GMR energies in $^{208}$Pb and $^{90}$Zr very well. From the GMR data, a value of $K_τ = -550 \pm 100$ MeV is obtained for the asymmetry-term in the nuclear incompressibility.
We investigate the possibilities of producing neutron-rich nuclides in projectile fission of heavy beams in the energy range of 20 MeV/nucleon expected from low-energy facilities. We report our efforts to theoretically describe the reaction mechanism of projectile fission following a multinucleon transfer collision at this energy range. Our calculations are mainly based on a two-step approach: the dynamical stage of the collision is described with either the phenomenological Deep-Inelastic Transfer model (DIT), or with the microscopic Constrained Molecular Dynamics model (CoMD). The deexcitati…
In this paper we present the first high-resolution laser spectroscopy results obtained at the GISELE laser laboratory of the GANIL-SPIRAL2 facility, in preparation for the first experiments with the S$^3$-Low Energy Branch. Studies of neutron-deficient radioactive isotopes of erbium and tin represent the first physics cases to be studied at S$^3$. The measured isotope-shift and hyperfine structure data are presented for stable isotopes of these elements. The erbium isotopes were studied using the $4f^{12}6s^2$ $^3H_6 \rightarrow 4f^{12}(^3 H)6s6p$ $J = 5$ atomic transition (415 nm) and the tin…
The spallation-neutron yield was studied experimentally by bombarding a thick lead target with 400 MeV/u carbon beam. The data were obtained with the activation analysis method using foils of Au, Mn, Al, Fe and In. The yields of produced isotopes were deduced by analyzing the measured γ spectra of irradiated foils. According to the isotopes yields, the spatial and energy distributions of the neutron field were discussed. The experimental results were compared with Monte Carlo simulations performed by the GEANT4 + FLUKA code.
Vector analyzing powers for proton elastic scattering from 8He at 71 MeV/nucleon have been measured using a solid polarized proton target operated in a low magnetic field of 0.1 T. The spin-orbit potential obtained from a phenomenological optical model analysis is found to be significantly shallower and more diffuse than the global systematics of stable nuclei, which is an indication that the spin-orbit potential is modified for scattering involving neutron-rich nuclei. A close similarity between the matter radius and the root-mean-square radius of the spin-orbit potential is also identified.
Experimental level densities for 171,172Yb, 166,167Er, 161,162Dy, and 148,149Sm are analyzed within the microcanonical ensemble. In the even isotopes at excitation energies E < 2 MeV, the Helmholtz free energy F signals the transition from zero to two quasiparticles. For E > 2 MeV, the odd and even isotopes reveal a surprisingly constant F at a critical temperature Tc of appr. 0.5 MeV, indicating the continuous melting of nucleon Cooper pairs as function of excitation energy.
The ``breathing mode'' of neutron-rich nuclei is our window into the incompressibility of neutron-rich matter. After much confusion on the interpretation of the experimental data, consistency was finally reached between different models that predicted both the distribution of isoscalar monopole strength in finite nuclei and the compression modulus of infinite matter. However, a very recent experiment on the Tin isotopes at the Research Center for Nuclear Physics(RCNP) in Japan has again muddled the waters. Self-consistent models that were successful in reproducing the energy of the giant monop…
Neutron reaction data for the set of major chromium isotopes were reevaluated from the thermal energy range up to 20 MeV. In the low energy region, updates to the thermal values together with an improved $R$-matrix analysis of the resonance parameters characterizing the cluster of large $s$-wave resonances for $^{50,53}$Cr isotopes were performed. In the intermediate and high energy range up to 20 MeV, the evaluation methodology used statistical nuclear reaction models implemented in the EMPIRE code within the Hauser-Feshbach framework to evaluate the reaction cross sections and angular distri…
Breakup temperatures were deduced from double ratios of isotope yields for target spectators produced in the reaction Au + Au at 1000 MeV per nucleon. Pairs of $^{3,4}$He and $^{6,7}$Li isotopes and pairs of $^{3,4}$He and H isotopes (p, d and d, t) yield consistent temperatures after feeding corrections, based on the quantum statistical model, are applied. The temperatures rise with decreasing impact parameter from 4 MeV for peripheral to about 10 MeV for the most central collisions. The good agreement with the breakup temperatures measured previously for projectile spectators at an incident …
The gamma-ray strength function in the quasi-continuum has been measured for 231-233Th, 232,233Pa and 237-239U using the Oslo method. All eight nuclei show a pronounced increase in gamma strength at omega_SR approx 2.4 MeV, which is interpreted as the low-energy M1 scissors resonance (SR). The total strength is found to be B_SR = 9-11 mu_N^2 when integrated over the 1 - 4 MeV gamma-energy region. The SR displays a double-hump structure that is theoretically not understood. Our results are compared with data from (gamma, gamma') experiments and theoretical sum-rule estimates for a nuclear rigid…
Nuclear level density and $γ$-ray strength functions of $^{121,122}$Sn below the neutron separation energy are extracted with the Oslo method using the ($^3$He,$^3$He$^\primeγ$) and ($^3$He,$αγ$) reactions. The level densities of $^{121,122}$Sn display step-like structures, interpreted as signatures of neutron pair breaking. An enhancement in both strength functions, compared to standard models for radiative strength, is observed in our measurements for $E_γ\gtrsim 5.2 $ MeV. This enhancement is compatible with pygmy resonances centered at $\approx 8.4(1)$ and $\approx 8.6(2)$ MeV, respectivel…
A systematic analysis is made on the total reaction cross sections for Ne, Mg, Si, and S isotopes. The high-energy nucleus-nucleus collision is described based on the Glauber model. Using the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock method in the three-dimensional grid-space representation, we determine the nuclear density distribution for a wide range of nuclei self-consistently without assuming any spatial symmetry. The calculated total reaction cross sections consistently agree with the recent cross section data on Ne$+^{12}$C collision at 240$A$\,MeV, which makes it possible to discuss the radius and deformati…
The interaction cross sections of $^{22,23}$O nuclei at 900 MeV/nucleon have been measured recently by Kanungo {\it et al.}. We show that the odd-even staggering parameter of interaction cross sections deduced from these new data agrees well with the theoretical systematics expected for the neutron separation energy of $S_n$=2.74$\pm$0.120 MeV for $^{23}$O. We also discuss briefly the energy dependence of the staggering parameter.
Measurements of the helium-cluster breakup and neutron removal cross sections for neutron-rich Be isotopes A=10-12,14 are presented. These have been studied in the 30 to 42 MeV/u energy range where reaction measurements are proposed to be sensitive to the cluster content of the ground-state wave-function. These measurements provide a comprehensive survey of the decay processes of the Be isotopes by which the valence neutrons are removed revealing the underlying alpha-alpha core-cluster structure. The measurements indicate that clustering in the Be isotopes remains important up to the drip-line…
Excitation functions were measured for the $^{55}$Mn(n,2n)$^{54}$Mn, $^{55}$Mn(n,$α$)$^{52}$V, $^{63}$Cu(n,$α$)$^{60}$Co, $^{65}$Cu(n,2n)$^{64}$Cu, and $^{65}$Cu(n,p)$^{65}$Ni reactions from 13.47 to 14.83 MeV. The experimental cross sections are compared with the results of calculations including all activation channels for the stable isotopes of Mn and Cu, for neutron incident energies up to 50 MeV. Within the energy range up to 20 MeV the model calculations are most sensitive to the parameters related to nuclei in the early stages of the reaction, while the model assumptions are better esta…
We present our recent study of cross sections and angular distributions of projectile fragments from heavy-ion reactions at beam energy of 15 MeV/nucleon. We studied the production cross sections and the angular distributions of neutron-rich nuclides from collisions of a 86 Kr (15 MeV/nucleon) beam with heavy targets ( 64 Ni, 124 Sn and 238 U). Experimental data from our previous work at Texas A & M were compared with model calculations. Our calculations were based on a two-step approach: the dynamical stage of the collision was described with, first, the phenomenological Deep-Inelastic Transf…
We have investigated the isoscalar giant resonances in the Sn isotopes using inelastic scattering of 386-MeV alpha-particles at extremely forward angles, including 0deg. We have obtained completely "background-free inelastic-scattering spectra for the Sn isotopes over the angular range 0deg--9deg and up to an excitation energy of 31.5 MeV. The strength distributions for various multipoles were extracted by a multipole decomposition analysis based on the expected angular distributions of the respective multipoles. We find that the centroid energies of the isoscalar giant monopole resonance (ISG…
