We show that bipartite concurrence for rank-2 mixed states of qubits is written by an observable which can be exactly and directly measurable in experiment by local projective measurements, provided that four copies of the composite quantum system are available. In addition, for a tripartite quantum pure state of qubits, the 3-tangle is also shown to be measurable only by projective measurements on the reduced density matrices of a pair of qubits conditioned on four copies of the state.
We derive measurable lower bounds on concurrence of arbitrary mixed states, for both bipartite and multipartite cases. First, we construct measurable lower bonds on the purely algebraic bounds of concurrence [F. Mintert et al. (2004), Phys. Rev. lett., 92, 167902]. Then, using the fact that the sum of the square of the algebraic bounds is a lower bound of the squared concurrence, we sum over our measurable bounds to achieve a measurable lower bound on concurrence. With two typical examples, we show that our method can detect more entangled states and also can give sharper lower bonds than the …
Amount of entanglement carried by a quantum bipartite state is usually evaluated in terms of concurrence (see Ref. 1). We give a physical interpretation of concurrence that reveals a way of its direct measurement and discuss possible generalizations.
We propose generalizations of concurrence for multi-partite quantum systems that can distinguish qualitatively distinct quantum correlations. All introduced quantities can be evaluated efficiently for arbitrary mixed sates.
We derive a lower bound for the concurrence of mixed bipartite quantum states, valid in arbitrary dimensions. As a corollary, a weaker, purely algebraic estimate is found, which detects mixed entangled states with positive partial transpose.
We consider two measures of entanglement of mixed bipartite states of dimension 2X2: concurrence and negativity. We first prove the conjecture of Eisert and Plenio that concurrence can never be smaller than negativity. We then characterise all states for which concurrence equals negativity and also those states for which the difference between concurrence and negativity is maximal (keeping either the concurrence fixed, or the participation ratio R=1/trace(rho^2)).
We consider the maximum bipartite entanglement that can be distilled from a single copy of a multipartite mixed entangled state, where we focus mostly on $d\times d\times n$-dimensional tripartite mixed states. We show that this {\em assisted entanglement}, when measured in terms of the generalized concurrence (named G-concurrence) is (tightly) bounded by an entanglement monotone, which we call the G-concurrence of assistance. The G-concurrence is one of the possible generalizations of the concurrence to higher dimensions, and for pure bipartite states it measures the {\em geometric mean} of t…
While the experimental detection of entanglement provides already quite a difficult task, experimental quantification of entanglement is even more challenging, and has not yet been studied thoroughly. In this paper we discuss several issues concerning bounds on concurrence measurable collectively on copies of a given quantum state. Firstly, we concentrate on the recent bound on concurrence by Mintert--Buchleitner [F. Mintert and A. Buchleitner, Phys. Rev. Lett. 98, 140505 (2007)]. Relating it to the reduction criterion for separability we provide yet another proof of the bound and point out so…
To explore the properties of a two-qubit mixed state, we consider quantum teleportation. The fidelity of a teleported state depends on the resource state purity and entanglement, as characterized by concurrence. Concurrence and purity are functions of state parameters. However, it turns out that a state with larger purity and concurrence, may have comparatively smaller fidelity. By computing teleportation fidelity, concurrence and purity for two-qubit X-states, we show it explicitly. We further show that fidelity changes monotonically with respect to functions of parameters - other than concur…
We experimentally measure the lower and upper bounds of concurrence for a set of two-qubit mixed quantum states using photonic systems. The measured concurrence bounds are in agreement with the results evaluated from the density matrices reconstructed through quantum state tomography. In our experiment, we propose and demonstrate a simple method to provide two faithful copies of a two-photon mixed state required for parity measurements: Two photon pairs generated by two neighboring pump laser pulses through optical parametric down conversion processes represent two identical copies. This metho…
Interaction with environment may lead to the transition of quantum system from pure state to the mixed one. In this case, the problem of definition of entanglement may arise. In particular, quantitative measure of entanglement concurrence is introduced differently for pure and mixed states. To solve this problem, alternative definition of concurrence of mixed states is introduced in present work. In particular, concurrence of mixed states is determined as an average of pure states concurrences. Averaging is carried out over the quantum ensemble, corresponding to all possible realization of ran…
We study the concurrence of arbitrary dimensional multipartite quantum systems. An explicit analytical lower bound of concurrence for four-partite mixed states is obtained in terms of the concurrences of tripartite mixed states. Detailed examples are given to show that our lower bounds improve the existing lower bounds of concurrence. The approach is generalized to five-partite quantum systems.
We characterize violation of CHSH inequalities for mixed two-qubit states by their mixedness and entanglement. The class of states that have maximum degree of CHSH violation for a given linear entropy is also constructed.
We derive an experimentally observable lower bound on concurrence of mixed quantum states in terms of an entanglement witness, relating measurements on single states with those on two copies.
The quantum dynamics of M pairwise coupled spin 1/2 is analyzed and the time evolution of the entanglement get established within a prefixed couple of spins is studied. A conceptual and quantitative link between the concurrence function and measurable quantities is brought to light providing a physical interpretation for the concurrence itself as well as a way to measure it. A generalized spin star system is exactly investigated showing that the entanglement accompanying its rich dynamics is traceable back to the covariance of appropriate commuting observables of the two spins.
We derive an analytic approximation for the concurrence of weakly mixed bipartite quantum states - typical objects in state of the art experiments. This approximation is shown to be a lower bound of the concurrence of arbitrary states.
We study the role of average concurrence in entanglement swapping in quantum networks. We begin with qubit pure states, and there is a very simple rule governing the propagation of average concurrence in multiple swaps. We look at examples of mixed qubit states, and find the relation for pure states gives an upper bound on what is possible with mixed states. We then move on to qudits, where we make use of the I-concurrence. Here the situation is not as simple as for qubits, but in some cases relatively straightforward results can be obtained.
We derive an analytical lower bound for the concurrence of tripartite quantum mixed states. A functional relation is established relating concurrence and the generalized partial transpositions.
Detection of entanglement in bipartite states is a fundamental task in quantum information. The first method to verify entanglement in mixed states was the partial-transpose criterion. Subsequently, numerous quantifiers for bipartite entanglement were introduced, among them concurrence and negativity. Surprisingly, these quantities are often treated as distinct or independent of each other. The aim of this contribution is to highlight the close relations between these concepts, to show the connections between seemingly independent results, and to present various estimates for the mixed-state c…
Nonlinear inequalities based on the quadratic Renyi entropy for mixed two-qubit states are characterized on the Entropy-Concurrence plane. This class of inequalities is stronger than Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) inequalities and, in particular, are violated "in toto" by the set of Type I Maximally-Entangled-Mixture States (MEMS I).
The state of an atom in a bipartite qubit, Jaynes-Cummings (JC) or anti-Jaynes-Cummings (aJC) interaction is described by a reduced density operator. The purity of the state has been measured by taking the trace of the square of the reduced density operator. In this article, we define the square of the reduced density operator as the state purity operator, composed of a completely pure state part and a completely mixed state part. The coefficient of the completely mixed state part is the mixed state measure, formally obtained as the determinant of the reduced density operator and it is therefo…
We provide a complete analysis of mixed three-qubit states composed of a GHZ state and a W state orthogonal to the former. We present optimal decompositions and convex roofs for the three-tangle. Further, we provide an analytical method to decide whether or not an arbitrary rank-2 state of three qubits has vanishing three-tangle. These results highlight intriguing differences compared to the properties of two-qubit mixed states, and may serve as a quantitative reference for future studies of entanglement in multipartite mixed states. By studying the Coffman-Kundu-Wootters inequality we find th…
We discuss a kind of generalized concurrence for a class of high dimensional quantum pure states such that the entanglement of formation is a monotonically increasing convex function of the generalized concurrence. An analytical expression of the entanglement of formation for a class of high dimensional quantum mixed states is obtained.
We show that for tripartite quantum pure states of qubits, all the kinds of entanglement in terms of SLOCC classification are experimentally measurable by simple projective measurements, provided that four copies of the composite quantum system are available. In particular, the entanglement of reduced density matrices, even though they are mixed states, can be exactly determined in experiment. Concurrence of assistance is also shown to be measurable by introducing an interesting equations with explicit physical meanings.
We present an extension of the Wootters concurrence for the case of two qutrits in mixed states. The reduction of our extension to the case of two levels shows complete agreement with Wootters concurrence for two qubits. As an explicit example, we compute the concurrence for a family of symmetric states and we obtain the bounds on the limit for separability. Our results are compared with those of the negativity.
We study the concurrence of arbitrary multipartite mixed quantum states. An explicit lower bound of the concurrence is derived, which detects quantum entanglement of some states better than some separability criteria, and gives sufficient conditions for distilling GHZ states from tripartite states. An interesting relations between the lower bound of the concurrence for bipartite states and for tripartite states has been presented.
Adding the maximally mixed state with some weight to the entanglement system leads to disentanglement of the latter. For each predefined entangled state there exists a minimal value of this weight for which the system loses its entanglement properties. These values were proposed to be used as a quantitative measure of entanglement called robustness [G. Vidal and R. Tarrach, Phys. Rev. A 59, 141 (1999)]. Using the concurrence, we propose the derivation of this measure for the system of two-qubit. Namely, for a two-qubit pure state, an exact expression of robustness is obtained. Finally, in the …
Monogamy of entanglement is generally discussed using a bipartite entanglement measure as an upper bound. Here we discuss a new kind of monogamous relation where the upper bound is given by a multipartite measure of entanglement, the generalized concurrence. We show a new monogamous equality involving the multipartite concurrence, all the bipartite concurrences and the genuine tripartite entanglement for pure three qubits system. The result extends to mixed states in an inequality involving the generalized concurrence and all the bipartite concurrences. We provide a counter-example showing tha…
We study monogamy relations for arbitrary dimensional multipartite systems. Monogamy relations based on concurrence and concurrence of assistance for any dimensional $m_1\otimes m_2\otimes...\otimes m_{N}$ quantum states are derived, which give rise to the restrictions on the entanglement distributions among the subsystems. Besides, we give the lower bound of concurrence for four-partite mixed states. The approach can be readily generalized to arbitrary multipartite systems.
We discuss properties of entanglement measures called I-concurrence and tangle. For a bipartite pure state, I-concurrence and tangle are simply related to the purity of the marginal density operators. The I-concurrence (tangle) of a bipartite mixed state is the minimum average I-concurrence (tangle) of ensemble decompositions of pure states of the joint density operator. Terhal and Vollbrecht [Phys. Rev. Lett. 85, 2625 (2000)] have given an explicit formula for the entanglement of formation of isotropic states in arbitrary dimensions. We use their formalism to derive comparable expressions for…
A simplified expression of concurrence for two-qubit mixed state having no more than three non-vanishing eigenvalues is obtained. Basing on SU(2) coherent states, the amount of entanglement of two-qubit pure states is studied and conditions for entanglement are calculated by formulating the measure in terms of some new parameters (amplitudes of coherent states). This formalism is generalized to the case of two-qubit mixed states using the simplified expression of concurrence.
In a recent paper, Rungta et. al. [Phys. Rev. A, 64, 042315, 2001] introduced a measure of mixed-state entanglement called the I-concurrence for arbitrary pairs of qudits. We find an exact formula for an entanglement measure closely related to the I-concurrence, the I-tangle, for all mixed states of two qudits having no more than two nonzero eigenvalues. We use this formula to provide a tight upper bound for the entanglement of formation for rank-2 mixed states of a qubit and a qudit.
Mixed entangled states are generic resource for quantum teleportation. Optimal teleportation fidelity measures the success of quantum teleportation. The relevance of rank in the teleportation process is investigated by constructing three new maximally entangled mixed states (MEMS) of different ranks. Linear entropy, concurrence, optimal teleportation fidelity and Bell function are obtained for each of the state analytically. It is found that mixed states with higher rank are better resource for teleportation. In order to achieve a fixed value of optimal teleportation fidelity, we find that low…
We present a lower bound of concurrence for four-partite systems in terms of the concurrence for $M\, (2\leq M\leq 3)$ part quantum systems and give an analytical lower bound for $2\otimes2\otimes2\otimes2$ mixed quantum sates. It is shown that these lower bounds are able to improve the existing bounds and detect entanglement better. Furthermore, our approach can be generalized to multipartite quantum systems.
A simple relation is introduced for concurrence to describe how much the entanglement of bipartite system is at least left if either (or both) subsystem undergoes an arbitrary physical process. This provides a lower bound for concurrence of mixed states (pure states are included) in contrast to the upper bound given by Konrad et al [Nature Physics \textbf{4}, 99 (2008)]. Our results are also suitable for a general high dimensional bipartite quantum systems.
We present a lower bound of concurrence for arbitrary dimensional bipartite quantum states. This lower bound may be used to improve all the known lower bounds of concurrence. Moreover, the lower bound gives rise to an operational sufficient criterion of distillability of quantum entanglement. The significance of our result is illustrated by quantitative evaluation of entanglement for entangled states that fail to be identified by the usual concurrence estimation method, and by showing the distillability of mixed states that can not be recognized by other distillability criteria.
We argue that a complete characterisation of quantum correlations in bipartite systems of many dimensions may require a quantity which, even for pure states, does not reduce to a single number. Subsequently, we introduce multi-dimensional generalizations of concurrence and find evidence that they may provide useful tools for the analysis of quantum correlations in mixed bipartite states. We also introudce {\it biconcurrence} that leads to a necessary and sufficient condition for separability.
In this paper we investigate two different entanglement measures in the case of mixed states of two qubits. We prove that the negativity of a state can never exceed its concurrence and is always larger then $\sqrt{(1-C)^2+C^2}-(1-C)$ where $C$ is the concurrence of the state. Furthermore we derive an explicit expression for the states for which the upper or lower bound is satisfied. Finally we show that similar results hold if the relative entropy of entanglement and the entanglement of formation are compared.
We obtain an analytical lower bound of entanglement quantified by concurrence for arbitrary bipartite quantum states. It is shown that our bound is tight for some mixed states and is complementary to the previous known lower bounds. On the other hand, it is known that the entanglement monogamy inequality proposed by Coffman, Kundu, and Wootters is in general not true for higher dimensional quantum states. Inducing from the new lower bound of concurrence, we find a proper form of entanglement monogamy inequality for arbitrary quantum states.
Based on a proposed coherence measure, we show that the local coherence of a bipartite quantum pure state (coherence of its reduced density matrix) is exactly the same as the minimal average co- herence with all potential pure-state realizations under consideration. In particular, it is shown that bipartite concurrence of pure states just captures the maximal difference between local coherence and the average coherence of one subsystem induced by local operations on the other subsystem with the assistance of classical communications, which provides an alternative operational meaning for bipart…
Witness Operator Provides Better Estimate of the Lower Bound of Concurrence of Bipartite Bound Entangled States in $d_{1}\otimes d_{2}$ Dimensional System
We extend the definition of concurrence into a family of entanglement monotones, which we call concurrence monotones. We discuss their properties and advantages as computational manageable measures of entanglement, and show that for pure bipartite states all measures of entanglement can be written as functions of the concurrence monotones. We then show that the concurrence monotones provide bounds on quantum information tasks. As an example, we discuss their applications to remote entanglement distributions (RED) such as entanglement swapping and remote preparation of bipartite entangled state…
We present observable upper bounds of squared concurrence, which are the dual inequalities of the observable lower bounds introduced in [F. Mintert and A. Buchleitner, Phys. Rev. Lett. 98, 140505 (2007)] and [L. Aolita, A. Buchleitner and F. Mintert, Phys. Rev. A 78, 022308 (2008)]. These bounds can be used to estimate entanglement for arbitrary experimental unknown finite-dimensional states by few experimental measurements on a twofold copy $ρ\otimesρ$ of the mixed states. Furthermore, the degree of mixing for a mixed state and some properties of the linear entropy also have certain relations…
In this article we investigate the unitary dynamics of squashed entanglement and concurrence measures in Werner state and maximally entangled mixed states (MEMS) under two different Hamiltonians. The aim of the present study is two fold. The first part of the study deals with the dynamics under Heisenberg Hamiltonian and the second part deals under bi-linear bi-quadratic Hamiltonian which is the extension of first Hamiltonian. In both the parts we investigate the dynamical trade off and balancing points for squashed entanglement and concurrence. During the study, we also found the results of e…
Concurrence, as one of entanglement measures, is a useful tool to characterize quantum entanglement in various quantum systems. However, the computation of the concurrence involves difficult optimizations and only for the case of two qubits an exact formula was found. We investigate the concurrence of four-qubit quantum states and derive analytical lower bound of concurrence using the multiqubit monogamy inequality. It is shown that this lower bound is able to improve the existing bounds. This approach can be generalized to arbitrary qubit systems. We present an exact formula of concurrence fo…
We study the entanglement between a certain qubit and the remaining system in rank- 2 mixed states prepared on the quantum computer. The protocol, which we propose for this purpose, is based on the relation of geometric measure of entanglement with correlations between qubits. As a special case, we consider a two-qubit rank-2 mixed state and find the relation of concurrence with the geometric measure of entanglement. On the ibmq-melbourne quantum computer we measure the geometric measure of entanglement in the cases of 2- and 4-qubit mixed quantum states which consist of Schrödinger cat states…
For every possible spectrum of $2^N$-dimensional density operators, we construct an $N$-qubit X-state of same spectrum and maximal genuine multipartite (GM-) concurrence, hence characterizing a global unitary transformation that --- constrained to output X-states --- maximizes the GM-concurrence of an arbitrary input mixed state of $N$ qubits. We also apply semidefinite programming methods to obtain $N$-qubit X-states with maximal GM-concurrence for a given purity and to provide an alternative proof of optimality of a recently proposed set of density matrices for the role, the so-called X-MEMS…
The Schmidt coefficients capture all entanglement properties of a pure bipartite state and therefore determine its usefulness for quantum information processing. While the quantification of the corresponding properties in mixed states is important both from a theoretical and a practical point of view, it is considerably more difficult, and methods beyond estimates for the concurrence are elusive. In particular this holds for a quantitative assessment of the most valuable resource, the maximum possible Schmidt number of an arbitrary mixed state. We derive a framework for lower bounding the appr…
For every N-qubit density matrix written in the computational basis, an associated "X-density matrix" can be obtained by vanishing all entries out of the main- and anti-diagonals. It is very simple to compute the genuine multipartite (GM) concurrence of this associated N-qubit X-state, which, moreover, lower bounds the GM-concurrence of the original (non-X) state. In this paper, we rely on these facts to introduce and benchmark a heuristic for estimating the GM-concurrence of an arbitrary multiqubit mixed state. By explicitly considering two classes of mixed states, we illustrate that our esti…
Entanglement and mixedness of a bipartite mixed state resource are crucial for the success of quantum teleportation. Upper bounds on measures of mixedness, namely, von Neumann entropy and linear entropy beyond which the bipartite state ceases to be useful for quantum teleportation are known in the literature. In this work, we generalize these bounds and obtain rank dependent upper bounds on von Nuemann entropy and linear entropy for an arbitrary bipartite mixed state resource. We observe that the upper bounds on measures of mixedness increase with increase in the rank. For two qubit mixed stat…
We derive an analytical expression for the lower bound of the concurrence of mixed quantum states of composite 2xK systems. In contrast to other, implicitly defined entanglement measures, the numerical evaluation of our bound is straightforward. We explicitly evaluate its tightness for general mixed states of 2x3 systems, and identify a large class of states where our expression gives the exact value of the concurrence.
Entanglement and steering are used to describe quantum inseparabilities. Steerable states form a strict subset of entangled states. A natural question arises concerning how much territory steerability occupies entanglement for a general two-qubit entangled state. In this work, we investigate the constraint relation between steerability and concurrence by using two kinds of evolutionary states and randomly generated two-qubit states. By combining the theoretical and numerical proofs, we obtain the upper and lower boundaries of steerability. And the lower boundary can be used as a sufficient cri…
We present a new tripartite entanglement measure for three-qubit mixed states. The new measure $t_{\mathrm{r}}(ρ)$, which we refer to as the r-tangle, is given as a kind of the tangle, but has a feature which the tangle does not have; if we can derive an analytical form of $ t_{\mathrm{r}}(ρ)$ for a three-qubit mixed state $ρ$, we can also derive $t_{\mathrm{r}}(ρ')$ analytically for any states $ρ'$ which are SLOCC-equivalent to the state $ρ$. The concurrence of two-qubit states also satisfies the feature, but the tangle does not. These facts imply that the r-tangle $t_{\mathrm{r}}$ is the app…
We propose an entanglement measure for two qudits based on the covariances of a set of generators of the su(N) algebra. In particular, we represent this measure in terms of the mutually unbiased projectors for N prime. For pure states this measure quantify entanglement, we obtain an explicit expression which relates it to the concurrence hierarchy, specifically the I-concurrence and the 3-concurrence. For mixed states we propose a separability criterion.
We propose that the entanglement of mixed states is characterised properly in terms of a probability density function $\mathcal{P}_ρ(\mathcal{E})$. There is a need for such a measure since the prevalent measures (such as \textit{concurrence} and \textit{negativity}) for two qubit systems are rough benchmarks, and not monotones of each other. Focussing on the two qubit states, we provide an explicit construction of $\mathcal{P}_ρ(\mathcal{E})$ and show that it is characterised by a set of parameters, of which concurrence is but one particular combination. $\mathcal{P}_ρ(\mathcal{E})$ is manifes…
We analyze how a maximally entangled state of two-qubits (e.g., the singlet $ψ_s$) is affected by action of local channels described by completely positive maps $\cE$ . We analyze the concurrence and the purity of states $\varrho_\cE=\cE\otimes\cI[ψ_s]$.Using the concurrence-{\it vs}-purity phase diagram we characterize local channels $\cE$ by their action on the singlet state $ψ_s$. We specify a region of the concurrence-{\it vs.}-purity diagram that is achievable from the singlet state via the action of unital channels. We show that even most general (including non-unital) local channels act…
