We describe a quantum system consisting of a one-dimensional linear chain of n identical harmonic oscillators coupled by a nearest neighbor interaction. Two boundary conditions are taken into account: periodic boundary conditions (where the nth oscillator is coupled back to the first oscillator) and fixed wall boundary conditions (where the first oscillator and the $n$th oscillator are coupled to a fixed wall). The two systems are characterized by their Hamiltonian. For their quantization, we treat these systems as Wigner Quantum Systems (WQS), allowing more solutions than just the canonical quantization solution. In this WQS approach, one is led to certain algebraic relations for operators (which are linear combinations of position and momentum operators) that should satisfy triple relations involving commutators and anti-commutators. These triple relations have a solution in terms of the Lie superalgebra gl(1|n). We study a particular class of gl(1|n) representations V(p), the so-called ladder representations. For these representations, we determine the spectrum of the Hamiltonian and of the position operators (for both types of boundary conditions). Furthermore, we compute the eigenvectors of the position operators in terms of stationary states. This leads to explicit expressions for position probabilities of the n oscillators in the chain. An analysis of the plots of such position probability distributions gives rise to some interesting observations. In particular, the physical behavior of the system as a WQS is very much in agreement with what one would expect from the classical case, except that all physical quantities (energy, position and momentum of each oscillator) have a finite spectrum.
We consider the compatibility conditions for a N-particle D-dimensional Wigner quantum oscillator. These conditions can be rewritten as certain triple relations involving anticommutators, so it is natural to look for solutions in terms of Lie superalgebras. In the recent classification of ``generalized quantum statistics'' for the basic classical Lie superalgebras [math-ph/0504013], each such statistics is characterized by a set of creation and annihilation operators plus a set of triple relations. In the present letter, we investigate which cases of this classification also lead to solutions …
An n-particle 3-dimensional Wigner quantum oscillator model is constructed explicitly. It is non-canonical in that the usual coordinate and linear momentum commutation relations are abandoned in favour of Wigner's suggestion that Hamilton's equations and the Heisenberg equations are identical as operator equations. The construction is based on the use of Fock states corresponding to a family of irreducible representations of the Lie superalgebra sl(1|3n) indexed by an A-superstatistics parameter p. These representations are typical for p\geq 3n but atypical for p<3n. The branching rules for th…
We consider a quantum system consisting of a one-dimensional chain of M identical harmonic oscillators with natural frequency $ω$, coupled by means of springs. Such systems have been studied before, and appear in various models. In this paper, we approach the system as a Wigner Quantum System, not imposing the canonical commutation relations, but using instead weaker relations following from the compatibility of Hamilton's equations and the Heisenberg equations. In such a setting, the quantum system allows solutions in a finite-dimensional Hilbert space, with a discrete spectrum for all physic…
By correctly identifying the role of central extension in the centrally extended Heisenberg algebra h, we show that it is indeed possible to construct a Hopf algebraic structure on the corresponding enveloping algebra U(h) and eventually deform it through Drinfeld twist. This Hopf algebraic structure and its deformed version U^F(h) are shown to be induced from a more fundamental Hopf algebra obtained from the Schroedinger field/oscillator algebra and its deformed version, provided that the fields/oscillators are regarded as odd-elements of the super-algebra osp(1|2n). We also discuss the possi…
We study the Wigner Function in non-commutative quantum mechanics. By solving the time independent Schrödinger equation both on a non-commutative (NC) space and a non-commutative phase space, we obtain the Wigner Function for the harmonic oscillator on NC space and NC phase space respectively.
The second-order differential equation for a damped harmonic oscillator can be converted to two coupled first-order equations, with two two-by-two matrices leading to the group $Sp(2)$. It is shown that this oscillator system contains the essential features of Wigner's little groups dictating the internal space-time symmetries of particles in the Lorentz-covariant world. The little groups are the subgroups of the Lorentz group whose transformations leave the four-momentum of a given particle invariant. It is shown that the damping modes of the oscillator correspond to the little groups for mas…
A system of $N$ non-canonical dynamically free 3D harmonic oscillators is studied. The position and the momentum operators (PM-operators) of the system do not satisfy the canonical commutation relations (CCRs). Instead they obey the weaker postulates for the oscillator to be a Wigner quantum system. In particular the PM-operators fulfil the main postulate, which is due to Wigner: they satisfy the equations of motion (the Hamiltonian's equations) and the Heisenberg equations. One of the relevant features is that the coordinate (the momentum) operators do not commute, but instead their squares d…
The properties of a noncanonical 3D Wigner quantum oscillator, whose position and momentum operators generate the Lie superalgebra sl(1|3), are further investigated. Within each state space W(p), p=1,2,..., the energy E_q, q=0,1,2,3, takes no more than 4 different values. If the oscillator is in a stationary state ψ_q \in W(p) then measurements of the non-commuting Cartesian coordinates of the particle are such that their allowed values are consistent with it being found at a finite number of sites, called ``nests''. These lie on a sphere centered on the origin of fixed, finite radius \varrho_…
The properties of the three-dimensional noncanonical osp(3/2) oscillators, introduced in J.Phys. A: Math. Gen. {\bf 27} (1994) 977, are further studied. The angular momentum M of the oscillators can take at most three values M=p-1,p,p+1, which are either all integers or all half-integers. The coordinates anticommute with each other. Depending on the state space the energy spectrum can coincide or can be essentially different from those of the canonical oscillator. The ground state is in general degenerated.
Time evolution of the expectation values of various dynamical operators of the harmonic oscillator with dissipation is analitically obtained within the framework of the Lindblad's theory for open quantum systems. We deduce the density matrix of the damped harmonic oscillator from the solution of the Fokker-Planck equation for the coherent state representation, obtained from the master equation for the density operator. The Fokker-Planck equation for the Wigner distribution function is also solved by using the Wang-Uhlenbeck method of transforming it into a linearized partial differential equat…
We present three groups of noncanonical quantum oscillators. The position and the momentum operators of each of the groups generate basic Lie superalgebras, namely $sl(1/3)$, $osp(1/6)$ and $osp(3/2)$. The $sl(1/3)$-oscillators have finite energy spectrum and finite-dimensions. The $osp(1/6)$-oscillators are related to the para-Bose statistictics. The internal angular momentum $s$ of the $osp(3/2)$-oscillators takes no more than three (half)integer values. In a particular representation $s=1/2$.
An explicit construction of all finite-dimensional irreducible representations of the Lie superalgebra gl(1|n) in a Gel'fand-Zetlin basis is given. Particular attention is paid to the so-called star type I representations (``unitary representations''), and to a simple class of representations V(p), with p any positive integer. Then, the notion of Wigner Quantum Oscillators (WQOs) is recalled. In these quantum oscillator models, the unitary representations of gl(1|DN) are physical state spaces of the N-particle D-dimensional oscillator. So far, physical properties of gl(1|DN) WQOs were describe…
We investigate the simple harmonic oscillator in a 1-d box, and the 2-d isotropic harmonic oscillator problem in a circular cavity with perfectly reflecting boundary conditions. The energy spectrum has been calculated as a function of the self-adjoint extension parameter. For sufficiently negative values of the self-adjoint extension parameter, there are bound states localized at the wall of the box or the cavity that resonate with the standard bound states of the simple harmonic oscillator or the isotropic oscillator. A free particle in a circular cavity has been studied for the sake of compa…
We show that the asymptotic formula for $π$, the Wallis formula, that was related with quantum mechanics and the hydrogen atom in \cite{HF}, can also be related to the harmonic oscillator using a quantum duality between these two systems. As a corollary we show that this very interesting asymptotic formula is not related with the hydrogen atom or quantum mechanics itself but with a clever choice of a trial function and a potential in the Schroedinger equation when we use the variational approach to calculate the ground state energy associated with the given potential function.
The harmonic oscillator with dissipation is studied within the framework of the Lindblad theory for open quantum systems. By using the Wang-Uhlenbeck method, the Fokker-Planck equation, obtained from the master equation for the density operator, is solved for the Wigner distribution function, subject to either the Gaussian type or the $δ$-function type of initial conditions. The obtained Wigner functions are two-dimensional Gaussians with different widths. Then a closed expression for the density operator is extracted. The entropy of the system is subsequently calculated and its temporal behav…

We compute Wigner functions for the harmonic oscillator including corrections from generalized uncertainty principles (GUPs), and study the corresponding marginal probability densities and other properties. We show that the GUP corrections to the Wigner functions can be significant, and comment on their potential measurability in the laboratory.
Deformation quantization is a powerful tool to quantize some classical systems especially in noncommutative space. In this work we first show that for a class of special Hamiltonian one can easily find relevant time evolution functions and Wigner functions, which are intrinsic important quantities in the deformation quantization theory. Then based on this observation we investigate a two coupled harmonic oscillators system on the general noncommutative phase space by requiring both spatial and momentum coordinates do not commute each other. We derive all the Wigner functions and the correspond…
When dealing with the classical limit of two quantum mechanical oscillators on a noncommutative configuration space, the limits corresponding to the removal of configuration-space noncommutativity and position-momentum noncommutativity do not commute. We address this behaviour from the point of view of the phase-space localisation properties of the Wigner functions of coherent states under the two limits.
We study the entanglement entropy of harmonic oscillators in noncommutative phase space. We propose a new definition of quantum Rényi entropy based on Wigner functions in noncommutative phase space. Using the Rényi entropy, we calculate the entanglement entropy of the ground state of the 2D isotropic harmonic oscillators. We find that for some values of the noncommutative parameters, the harmonic oscillators can be entangled in noncommutative phase space. This is a new entanglement-like effect caused by the noncommutativity of the phase space.
The deformed algebra $\cal{A(R)}$, depending upon a Yang-Baxter R- matrix, is considered. The conditions under which the algebra is associative are discussed for a general number of oscillators. Four types of solutions satisfying these conditions are constructed and two of them can be represented by generalized Jordan-Wigner transformations. Our analysis is in some sense an extension of the boson realization of fermions from single-mode to multimode oscillators.
The main characteristics of the quantum oscillator coherent states including the two-particle Calogero interaction are investigated. We show that these Calogero coherent states are the eigenstates of the second-order differential annihilation operator which is deduced via R-deformed Heisenberg algebra or Wigner-Heisenberg algebraic technique and correspond exactly to the pure uncharged-bosonic states. They possess the important properties of non-orthogonality and completeness. The minimum uncertainty relation for the Calogero interaction coherent states is investigated. New sets of even and od…
Relation between Bopp-Kubo formulation and Weyl-Wigner-Moyal symbol calculus, and non-commutative geometry interpretation of the phase space representation of quantum mechanics are studied. Harmonic oscillator in phase space via creation and annihilation operators, both the usual and $q$-deformed, is investigated. We found that the Bopp-Kubo formulation is just non-commuting coordinates representation of the symbol calculus. The Wigner operator for the $q$-deformed harmonic oscillator is shown to be proportional to the 3-axis spherical angular momentum operator of the algebra $su_{q}(2)$. The …
We consider the quantum mechanical equivalence of the Seiberg-Witten map in the context of the Weyl-Wigner-Groenewold-Moyal phase-space formalism in order to construct a quantum mechanics over noncommutative Heisenberg algebras. The formalism is then applied to the exactly soluble Landau and harmonic oscillator problems in the 2-dimensional noncommutative phase-space plane, in order to derive their correct energy spectra and corresponding Wigner distributions. We compare our results with others that have previously appeared in the literature.
Phase-space features of the Wigner flow for an anharmonic quantum system driven by the harmonic oscillator potential modified by the addition of an inverse square (one-dimension Coulomb-like) contribution are analytically described in terms of Wigner functions and Wigner currents. Reporting about three correlated continuity equations which quantify the flux of quantum information in the phase-space, the non-classicality profile of such an anharmonic system can be consistently obtained in terms of the fluxes of {\em probability}, {\em purity} and {\em von Neumann-like entropy}. Considering that…
We show the natural relation between the Wigner Hamiltonian and the conformal Hamiltonian. It is presented a model in (super)conformal quantum mechanics with (super)conformal symmetry in the Wigner-Heisenberg algebra picture $ [x,p_{x}]= i(1+c{\bf P})$ (${\bf P}$ being the parity operator). In this context, the energy spectrum, the Casimir operator, creation and annihilation operators are defined. This superconformal Hamiltonian is similar to the super-Hamiltonian of the Calogero model and it is also an extension of the super-Hamiltonian for the Dirac Oscillator.
We investigate the leading twist quark generalized transverse momentum distributions (GTMDs) at nonzero skewness in a light-front quark-diquark model for the nucleon motivated by soft-wall AdS/QCD. The boost-invariant longitudinal coordinate, $σ=\frac{1}{2} b^- P^+$, is identified as the Fourier conjugate of the skewness. The Fourier transform of the GTMDs with respect to the skewness variable $ξ$ can be employed to provide the Wigner distributions in the boost-invariant longitudinal position space $σ$, the coordinate conjugate to light-front time, $τ=t+z/c$. The Wigner distributions in the lo…
