The magnetic moments of ${}^2{H}$, ${}^3{He}$ and ${}^3{H}$ as well as the thermal neutron capture rate on the proton are calculated using heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory {\it à la} Weinberg. The M1 operators have been derived up to {N$^3$LO}. The nuclear matrix elements are evaluated with the use of wave functions obtained by carrying out variational Monte Carlo calculations for a realistic nuclear Hamiltonian involving high-precision phenomenological potentials like Argonne Av18 and Urbana IX tri-nucleon interactions. We discuss the potential- and cutoff-dependence of the results.
We present recent developments obtained in the so-called N2LO extension of the usual Skyrme pseudo-potential. In particular, we discuss the isovector splitting mass in infinite nuclear matter and the pairing gaps of selected semi-magic even-even nuclei.
We employ Relativistic Mean Field (RMF) model with NL3 parametrization to investigate the ground state properties of superheavy nucleus, Z = 124. The nuclei selected (from among complete isotopic series) for detailed investigation show that the nucleon density at the center is very low and therefore, these nuclei can be treated as semi-bubble nuclei. The considerable shell gap appears at neutron numbers N = 172, 184 and 198 showing the magicity corresponding to these numbers. The results are compared with the macro-microscopic Finite Range Droplet Model (FRDM) wherever possible.
I use properties of doubly-magic nuclei to constrain nuclear matter and neutron matter equations of state. I conclude that the data determined the value of the neutron equation of state and the symmetry energy near a density of $ρ_{on}$ = 0.10 nucleons/fm$^{3}$. The slope at that point is constrained by the value of the neutron skin.
The effect of the residual interaction between the nucleons (quasiparticles) on the thermodynamic behavior of spherical nuclei is considered. Thermodynamic relations are derived for the simplest model of the residual interaction that has the necessary macroscopic structure previously established. The range of applicability of the theory is discussed.
The magic numbers in exotic nuclei are discussed, and their novel origin is shown to be the spin-isospin dependent part of the nucleon-nucleon interaction in nuclei. The importance and robustness of this mechanism is shown in terms of meson exchange, G-matrix and QCD theories. In neutron-rich exotic nuclei, magic numbers such as N = 8, 20, etc. can disappear, while N = 6, 16, etc. arise, affecting the structure of lightest exotic nuclei to nucleosynthesis of heavy elements.
We calculate the ground state properties of recently synthesized superheavy nuclei starting from $Z$=105-120. The nonrelativistic and relativistic mean field formalisms is used to evaluate the binding energy, charge radius, quadrupole deformation parameter and the density distribution of nucleons. We analyzed the stability of the nuclei based on the binding energy and neutron to proton ratio. We also studied the bubble structure of the nucleus which reveals about the special features of the superheavy nucleus.
The thermodynamic properties of hot nuclei are described within the canonical and microcanonical ensemble approaches. These approaches are derived based on the solutions of the BCS and self-consistent quasiparticle random-phase approximation at zero temperature embedded into the canonical and microcanonical ensembles. The obtained results agree well with the recent data extracted from experimental level densities by Oslo group for $^{94}$Mo, $^{98}$Mo, $^{162}$Dy and $^{172}$Yb nuclei.
The spectral fluctuation properties of spherical nuclei are considered by use of NNSD statistic. With employing a generalized Brody distribution included Poisson, GOE and GUE limits and also MLE technique, the chaoticity parameters are estimated for sequences prepared by all the available empirical data. The ML-based estimated values and also KLD measures propose a non regular dynamic. Also, spherical odd-mass nuclei in the mass region, exhibit a slight deviation to the GUE spectral statistics rather than the GOE.
The basic version of the semi-microscopic particle-hole dispersive optical model is implemented to describe main properties of the Gamow-Teller and charge-exchange giant spin-monopole resonances in medium-heavy closed-shell parent nuclei. Calculation results obtained for $^{48}Ca$, $^{90}Zr$, $^{132}Sn$, and $^{208}Pb$ are compared with available experimental data.
The semimicroscopic particle-hole dispersive optical model (PHDOM) is implemented to describe main properties of Isoscalar Giant Multipole Resonances (up to L=3) in medium-heavy closed-shell nuclei. The main properties are characterized by the strength distribution, transition density, partial and total probabilities of direct one-nucleon decay. Calculation results obtained for the 208Pb nucleus are compared with available experimental data.
Effects of the density dependence of the nuclear symmetry energy on ground-state properties of superheavy nuclei are studied in the relativistic mean-field theory. It is found that the softening of the symmetry energy plays an important role in the empirical shift [Phys. Rev. C 67, 024309 (2003)] of spherical orbitals in superheavy nuclei. The calculation based on the relativistic mean-field models NL3 and FSUGold supports the double shell closure in $^{292}120$ with the softening of the symmetry energy. In addition, the significant effect of the density dependence of the symmetry energy on th…
The contribution of quantum shape fluctuations to inertial properties of rotating nuclei has been analyzed for QQ-nuclear interaction using the random phase approximation (RPA). The different recipes to treat the cranking mean field plus RPA problem are considered. The effects of the dN=2 quadrupole matrix elements and the role of the volume conservation condition are discussed.
E2 properties of A=6--10 nuclei, including those of nuclei far from stability, are studied by a $(0+2)\hbarω$ shell-model calculation which includes E2 core-polarization effects explicitly. The quadrupole moments and the E2 transition strengths in A=6--10 nuclei are described quite well by the present calculation. This result indicates that the relatively large value of the quadrupole moment of $^8$B can be understood without introducing the proton-halo in $^8$B. An interesting effect of the $2\hbarω$ core-polarization is found for effective charges used in the $0\hbarω$ shell model; although …
Starting from light to superheavy nuclei, we have calculated the effective surface properties such as the symmetry energy, neutron pressure, and symmetry energy curvature using the coherent density fluctuation model. The isotopic chains of O, Ca, Ni, Zr, Sn, Pb, and Z = 120 are considered in the present analysis, which cover nuclei over the whole nuclear chart. The matter density distributions of these nuclei along with the ground state bulk properties are calculated within the spherically symmetric effective field theory motivated relativistic mean field model by using the recently developed …
It is shown that a consistent description of magnetic dipole properties in transitional nuclei can be obtained in the interacting boson model-2 by F-spin breaking mechanism, which is associated with differences between the proton and neutron deformations. In particular, the long standing anomalies observed in the $g$-factors of the Os-Pt isotopes are resolved by a proper inclusion of F-spin breaking.
A shell-correction method is applied to nuclei far from the beta stability line and its suitability to describe effects of the particle continuum is discussed. The sensitivity of predicted locations of one- and two-particle drip lines to details of the macroscopic-microscopic model is analyzed.
Binding energies, quadrupole deformation parameters, spins and parities of the neutron-deficient odd $Z=N+1$ nuclei in the $A\sim 80$ region are calculated in the relativistic mean field approximation. The ground-state and low-lying configurations of the recently observed $^{77}$Y, $^{79}$Zr and $^{83}$Mo nuclei are analyzed. The calculated results are compared with other theoretical predictions.
The possibility to use functionals of occupation numbers and natural orbitals for interacting fermions is discussed as an alternative to multi-reference energy density functional method. An illustration based on the two-level Lipkin model is discussed.
The universal properties and structure of halo nuclei composed of two neutrons (2n) and a core are investigated within an effective quantum mechanics framework. We construct an effective interaction potential that exploits the separation of scales in halo nuclei and treat the nucleus as an effective three-body system. The uncertainty from higher orders in the expansion is quantified through theoretical error bands. First, we investigate the possibility to observe excited Efimov states in 2n halo nuclei. Based on the experimental data, 20C is the only halo nucleus candidate to possibly have an …
The ground-state properties of 64Ge, 68Se, 72Kr and 76Sr (N=Z) nuclei have been investigated by using Hartree-Fock-Bogolibov (HFB)method with Sly4 Skyrme forces and Relativistic Mean Field (RMF) model with NL3 and recently proposed DEFNE interaction parameters sets. For determination of ground-state axially deformed shape and quadrupole moment constrained calculations have been employed in RMF model. The results of the present study have been compared with each other and available experimental data in the literature. The ground-state binding energies, neutron, proton and charge radii, quadrupol…
We present a model for the description of nuclear matter and finite nuclei, and at the same time, for the study of medium modifications of nucleon properties. The nucleons are described as nontopological solitons which interact through the self-consistent exchange of scalar and vector mesons. The model explicitly incorporates quark degrees of freedom into nuclear many-body systems and provides satisfactory results on the nuclear properties. The present model predicts a significant increase of the nucleon radius at normal nuclear matter density. It is very interesting to see the nucleon propert…
The structure of exotic nuclei sheds new light on the linkage of the nuclear structure to the nucleonic interaction. The self-consistent mean-field (SCMF) theories are useful to investigate this linkage, which are applicable to many nuclei covering almost the whole range of the nuclear chart without artificial truncation of model space. For this purpose, it is desired to develop effective interaction for the SCMF calculations well connected to the bare nucleonic interaction. Focusing on ground-state properties, I show results of the SCMF calculations primarily with the M3Y-type semi-realistic …
In this work we present $ab~initio$ shell-model calculations for electric quadrupole moments and magnetic dipole moments of $sd$ shell nuclei using valence-space Hamiltonians derived with two $ab~initio$ approaches: the in-medium similarity renormalization group (IM-SRG) and the coupled-cluster effective interaction (CCEI). Results are in a reasonable agreement with the available experimental data as well as with the results from the phenomenological USDB effective interaction. This work will add more information to the available $ab~initio$ results for the spectroscopy of $sd$ shell nuclei.
We present a systematic analysis of the description of odd nuclei by the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock approach augmented with pairing in BCS approximation and blocking of the odd nucleon. Current and spin densities in the Skyrme functional produce time-odd mean fields (TOMF) for odd nuclei. Their effect on basic properties (binding energies, odd-even staggering, separation energies and spectra) is investigated for the three Skyrme parameterizations SkI3, SLy6, and SV-bas. About 1300 spherical and axially-deformed odd nuclei with 16 < Z < 92 are considered. The calculations demonstrate that the TOMF eff…
The relativistic mean-field effective interaction with density-dependent meson-nucleon couplings DD-ME1 is tested in the calculation of deformed nuclei. Ground-state properties of six isotopic chains ($60\le Z \le 70$) in the region of rare-earth nuclei are calculated by using the relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (RHB) model with the DD-ME1 mean-field interaction, and with the Gogny D1S force for the pairing interaction. Results of fully self-consistent RHB calculations for the total binding energies, charge isotope shifts and quadrupole deformation parameters are compared with the available em…
Ground-state properties of exotic even-even nuclei with extreme neutron-to-proton ratios are described in the framework of the self-consistent mean-field theory with pairing formulated in coordinate space. This theory properly accounts for the influence of the particle continuum, which is particularly important for weakly bound systems. The pairing properties of nuclei far from stability are studied with several interactions emphasizing different aspects, such as the range and density dependence of the effective interaction. Measurable consequences of spatially extended pairing fields are pres…
Deformed Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations for finite nuclei are carried out. As residual interaction, a Brueckner G-matrix derived from a meson-exchange potential is taken. Phenomenological medium modifications of the meson masses are introduced. The binding energies, radii, and deformation parameters of the Carbon, Oxygen, Neon, and Magnesium isotope chains are found to be in good agreement with the experimental data.
The nucleus is a correlated open quantum many-body system. The presence of states that are unbound to particle emission may have significant impact on spectroscopic properties of nuclei, especially those close to the particle drip lines. In the framework of the continuum shell model in the complex momentum-plane, we discuss salient effects of the continuum coupling on the spectroscopic factors, one-neutron overlap integrals, and energies of excited states in $^{6}$He and $^{18}$O. We demonstrate the presence of non-perturbative threshold effects in many-body wave functions of weakly-bound and …
The coherent $ω$-meson photoproduction from nuclei is proposed as a phenomenological method to evaluate the momentum dependence of $ω$-meson mass shift and width in nuclear matter. We analyze available data on un-separated coherent and incoherent $ω$-meson photoproduction from nuclei and extract the imaginary part of the the complex forward $ω{N}$ scattering amplitude, which is proportional to the in-medium $ω$-meson width. The accuracy of the currently available data is not sufficient to evaluate the real part of forward $ω{N}$ scattering amplitude and reconstruct the momentum dependence of t…
We investigate the deformation properties of atomic nuclei in a hadronic chiral SU_f(3) model approach. The parameters are fitted to hadron mass properties and adjustments for spherical finite nuclei have been performed. Using these parameters the deformation of a series of light and heavy nuclei are obtained in a two-dimensional self-consistent calculation. In addition we discuss a case of superdeformation in a heavy nucleus.
We report accurate quantum Monte Carlo calculations of nuclei up to $A=16$ based on local chiral two- and three-nucleon interactions up to next-to-next-to-leading order. We examine the theoretical uncertainties associated with the chiral expansion and the cutoff in the theory, as well as the associated operator choices in the three-nucleon interactions. While in light nuclei the cutoff variation and systematic uncertainties are rather small, in $^{16}$O these can be significant for large coordinate-space cutoffs. Overall, we show that chiral interactions constructed to reproduce properties of …
Continuum effects in the weakly bound nuclei close to the drip-line are investigated using the analytically soluble Poschl-Teller-Ginocchio potential. Pairing correlations are studied within the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov method. We show that both resonant and non-resonant continuum phase space is active in creating the pairing field. The influence of positive-energy phase space is quantified in terms of localizations of states within the nuclear volume.
The recent developments of radioactive nuclear beams has opened up the possibility of exploring a wide variety of nuclei far from the valley of beta-stability. Of late several theoretical studies have come up in the past for describing nuclei in these exotic region. Extension of traditional shell model techniques to explain the exotic feature in the structure of these nuclei such as, formation of neutron halo large r.m.s radii, soft dipole resonances etc have confirmed the necessity to modify the single particle shell model potential when dealing with nuclei far from stability. The ground stat…
Statistical aspects of the dynamics of chaotic scattering in the classical model of $α$-cluster nuclei are studied. It is found that the dynamics governed by hyperbolic instabilities which results in an exponential decay of the survival probability evolves to a limiting energy distribution whose density develops the Boltzmann form. The angular distribution of the corresponding decay products shows symmetry with respect to $π/2$ angle. Time estimated for the compound nucleus formation ranges within the order of $10^{-21}$s.
Damping of rotational motion in superdeformed Hg and Dy-region nuclei is studied by means of cranked shell model diagonalization. It is shown that a shell oscillation in single-particle alignments affects significantly properties of rotational damping. Onset properties of damping and damping width for Hg are quite different from those for Dy-region superdeformed nuclei.
We study the systematics of the giant dipole resonance width $Γ$ in hot rotating nuclei as a function of temperature $T$, spin $J$ and mass $A$. We compare available experimental results with theoretical calculations that include thermal shape fluctuations in nuclei ranging from A=45 to A=208. Using the appropriate scaled variables, we find a simple phenomenological function $Γ(A,T,J)$ which approximates the global behavior of the giant dipole resonance width in the liquid drop model. We reanalyze recent experimental and theoretical results for the resonance width in Sn isotopes and $^{208}$Pb…
The Relativistic Continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov (RCHB) theory, which properly takes into account the pairing correlation and the coupling to (discretized) continuum via Bogoliubov transformation in a microscopic and self-consistent way, has been reviewed together with its new interpretation of the halo phenomena observed in light nuclei as the scattering of particle pairs into the continuum, the prediction of the exotic phenomena -- giant halos in nuclei near neutron drip line, the reproduction of interaction cross sections and charge-changing cross sections in light exotic nuclei in combination…
We developed new parameterizations of local regularized finite-range pseudopotentials up to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N3LO), used as generators of nuclear density functionals. When supplemented with zero-range spin-orbit and density-dependent terms, they provide a correct single-reference description of binding energies and radii of spherical and deformed nuclei. We compared the obtained results to experimental data and discussed benchmarks against the standard well-established Gogny D1S functional.
A sensitive correlation between the ground-state properties of light kaonic nuclei and the symmetry energy at high densities is constructed under the framework of relativistic mean-field theory. Taking oxygen isotopes as an example, we see that a high-density core is produced in kaonic oxygen nuclei, due to the strongly attractive antikaon-nucleon interaction. It is found that the $1S_{1/2}$ state energy in the high-density core of kaonic nuclei can directly probe the variation of the symmetry energy at supranormal nuclear density, and a sensitive correlation between the neutron skin thickness…
We study nuclear matter and finite nuclei in terms of the quark mean field (QMF) model, in which we describe the nucleon using the constituent quark model. The meson mean fields, in particular the sigma meson, created by other nucleons act on quarks inside a nucleon and change the nucleon properties in nuclear medium. The QMF model predicts an increasing size of the nucleon as well as a reduction of the nucleon mass in the nuclear environment. The present model is applied to study the properties of finite nuclei after fixing all the parameters by the nuclear matter properties, and it is found …
A mean-field plus pairing model for atomic nuclei in the Fe region was studied using a finite-temperature quantum Monte-Carlo method. We present results for thermodynamical quantities such as the internal energy and the specific heat. These results give indications of a phase transition related to the pairing amongst nucleons, around temperatures of 0.7 MeV. The influence of the residual interaction and of the size of the model space on the nuclear level densities is discussed too.
We present a new idea to understand the structure of nuclei, which is comparing to the liquid drop model. After discussing the probability that the nuclear system may be a fractal object with the characteristic of self-similarity, the nuclear irregular structure properties and the self-similarity characteristic are considered to be an intrinsic aspects of nuclear structure properties. For the description of nuclear geometric properties, nuclear fractal dimension is an irreplaceable variable similar to the nuclear radius. In order to determine these two variables, a new nuclear potential energy…
We study the correlation between the thickness of the neutron skin in finite nuclei and the nuclear symmetry energy for isotopic chains of even-even Ni, Sn, and Pb nuclei in the framework of the deformed self-consistent mean-field Skyrme HF+BCS method. The symmetry energy, the neutron pressure and the asymmetric compressibility in finite nuclei are calculated within the coherent density fluctuation model using the symmetry energy as a function of density within the Brueckner energy-density functional. The mass dependence of the nuclear symmetry energy and the neutron skin thickness are also st…
We use properties of doubly-magic nuclei and ab-initio calculations of low-density neutron matter to constrain Skyrme equations of state for neutron-rich conditions. All of these properties are consistent with a Skyrme functional form and a neutron-matter equation of state that depends on three parameters. With a reasonable range for the neutron-matter effective mass, the values of the two other Skyrme parameters are well constrained. This leads to predictions for other quantities. The neutron skins for $^{208}$Pb and $^{48}$Ca are predicted to be 0.182(10) fm and 0.173(5) fm, respectively. Ot…
The spherical QRPA method is used for the calculations of the $β$-decay properties of the neutron-rich nuclei in the region near the neutron magic numbers N=82 and N=126 which are important for determination of the r-process path. Our calculations differ from previous works by the use of realistic forces for the proton-neutron interaction. Both the allowed and first-forbidden $β$-decays are included. Detailed comparisons with the experimental measurements and the previous shell-model calculations are performed. The results for half-lives and beta-delayed neutron emission probabilities will ser…
Weakly-bound deformed nuclei have been studied by the Skyrme Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) approach in large coordinate-space boxes. In particular, the box-size dependence of the HFB calculations of weakly-bound deformed nuclei are investigated, including the particle density and pairing density distributions at nuclear surfaces, the near-threshold resonant and continuum quasiparticle spectra, and energetic properties. The box size may have larger influences in pairing properties than in other bulk properties. We demonstrate that large-box calculations of weakly-bound nuclei are important to p…
The properties of the states of the alternating parity bands in actinides, Ba, Ce and Nd isotopes are analyzed within a cluster model. The model is based on the assumption that cluster type shapes are produced by the collective motion of the nuclear system in the mass asymmetry coordinate. The calculated spin dependences of the parity splitting and of the electric multipole transition moments are in agreement with the experimental data.
We optimize $Δ$-full nuclear interactions from chiral effective field theory. The low-energy constants of the contact potentials are constrained by two-body scattering phase shifts, and by properties of bound-state of $A=2$ to $4$ nucleon systems and nuclear matter. The pion-nucleon couplings are taken from a Roy-Steiner analysis. The resulting interactions yield accurate binding energies and radii for a range of nuclei from $A=16$ to $A=132$, and provide accurate equations of state for nuclear matter and realistic symmetry energies. Selected excited states are also in agreement with data.
The separation energies of neutrons and protons, binding energies, mean square charge radii, electric quadrupole moments and deformation parameters of the proton and neutron distributions are evaluated for $β$ stable even-even nuclei with $16 \leq A \leq 256$. We compare the theoretical estimates obtained within the Hartree-Fock plus BCS model with a few sets of Skyrme forces, relativistic mean-field theory and frequently used Saxon-Woods and Nilsson potentials with experimental data.
In this paper, we investigate the ground state properties ($i.e$ binding energy, nuclear radius, radial density distribution and single particle energies) for $^{4}He$ and $^{12}C$ nuclei at equilibrium and at large static compression at zero temperature by using two realistic different potentials namely, Nijmegen and Reid Soft Core (RSC)potentials. We carry out the calculations in No-Core Shell Model space consisting of six major oscillator shells within the framework of the Constrained Spherical Hartree- Fock (CSHF) approximations. We find out that, the computed equilibrium root mean square …
Shapes and high-spin properties of nuclei from the neutron-rich (N>56) zirconium region are calculated using the Nilsson-Strutinsky method with the cranked Woods-Saxon average potential and monopole pairing residual interaction. The shape coexistence effects and the competition between rotationally-aligned 1h11/2 neutron and 1g9/2 proton bands is discussed. Predictions are made for the low-lying superdeformed bands in this mass region, characterized by the intruder states originating from the N=5 and 6 oscillator shells.
Study of the ground-state properties of Kr, Sr and Zr isotopes has been performed in the framework of the relativistic mean field (RMF) theory using the recently proposed relativistic parameter set NL-SH. It is shown that the RMF theory provides an unified and excellent description of the binding energies, isotope shifts and deformation properties of nuclei over a large range of isospin in the Z=40 region. It is observed that the RMF theory with the force NL-SH is able to describe the anomalous kinks in isotope shifts in Kr and Sr nuclei, the problem which has hitherto remained unresolved. Thi…
The impact of beyond mean field effects on the ground state and fission properties of superheavy nuclei has been investigated in a five-dimensional collective Hamiltonian based on covariant density functional theory. The inclusion of dynamical correlations reduces the impact of the $Z=120$ shell closure and induces substantial collectivity for the majority of the $Z=120$ nuclei which otherwise are spherical at the mean field level (as seen in the calculations with the PC-PK1 functional). Thus, they lead to a substantial convergence of the predictions of the functionals DD-PC1 and PC-PK1 which …
A relativistic non-local model for the inclusive photoproduction of $η$ mesons from complex nuclei is introduced. The model is based on the dominance of the S$_{11}$(1535) resonance. We compare the results of our calculations with the available data on inclusive cross sections for the nuclei C, Al and Cu. Assuming the resonance propagates freely in the nuclear medium, we find that the calculated angular distribution and energy dependence of the cross sections reproduce the data in a reasonable fashion. The present non-local model allows the inclusion of density dependent mass and width in the …
Properties of intermediate mass nuclei have been investigated within the framework of the alpha-cluster model in combination with systematic double-folding potentials. Previously, this alpha-cluster model has been widely applied to light nuclei, in particular to 8Be = alpha \otimes alpha, 20Ne = 16O \otimes alpha, and 44Ti = 40Ca \otimes alpha, and to heavy nuclei, in particular to 212Po = 208Pb \otimes alpha. In the present work a wide range of nuclei is investigated with the magic neutron number N = 50 in the mass range around A \approx 80 - 100: (A+4,N=52) = (A,N=50) \otimes alpha. It is fo…
High-spin yrast structures of even-even superheavy nuclei $^{254-258}$Rf are investigated by means of total-Routhian-surface approach in three-dimensional ($β_2, γ, β_4$) space. The behavior in the moments of inertia of $^{256}$Rf is well reproduced by our calculations, which is attributed to the $j_{15/2}$ neutron rotation-alignment. The competition between rotationally aligned $i_{13/2}$ proton and $j_{15/2}$ neutron is discussed. High-spin predictions are also made for its neighboring isotopes $^{254,258}$Rf.
