We present a model for the description of nuclear matter and finite nuclei, and at the same time, for the study of medium modifications of nucleon properties. The nucleons are described as nontopological solitons which interact through the self-consistent exchange of scalar and vector mesons. The model explicitly incorporates quark degrees of freedom into nuclear many-body systems and provides satisfactory results on the nuclear properties. The present model predicts a significant increase of the nucleon radius at normal nuclear matter density. It is very interesting to see the nucleon properties change from the nuclear surface to the nuclear interior.
We compute the binding energies, radii, and densities for selected medium-mass nuclei within coupled-cluster theory and employ the "bare" chiral nucleon-nucleon interaction at order N3LO. We find rather well-converged results in model spaces consisting of 15 oscillator shells, and the doubly magic nuclei 40Ca, 48Ca, and the exotic 48Ni are underbound by about 1 MeV per nucleon within the CCSD approximation. The binding-energy difference between the mirror nuclei 48Ca and 48Ni is close to theoretical mass table evaluations. Our computation of the one-body density matrices and the corresponding …
We perform ab initio calculations for nuclei around ^{16}O, ^{40}Ca, and ^{56}Ni using realistic nucleon-nucleon forces. In particular, ^{56}Ni is computed as the heaviest nucleus in this kind of ab initio calculation. Ground-state and single-particle energies including three-body-cluster effects are obtained within the framework of the unitary-model-operator approach. It is shown that the CD-Bonn nucleon-nucleon potential gives quite good results close to the experimental values for all nuclei in the present work.
Starting with a quark model of nucleon structure in which the valence quarks are strongly correlated within a nucleon, the light nuclei are constructed by assuming similar correlations of the quarks of neighboring nucleons. Applying the model to larger collections of nucleons reveals the emergence of the face-centered cubic (FCC) symmetry at the nuclear level. Nuclei with closed shells possess octahedral symmetry. Binding of nucleons are provided by quark loops formed by three and four nucleon correlations. Quark loops are responsible for formation of exotic (borromean) nuclei, as well. The mo…
We present the first study of pairing in nuclei including three-nucleon forces. We perform systematic calculations of the odd-even mass staggering generated using a microscopic pairing interaction at first order in chiral low-momentum interactions. Significant repulsive contributions from the leading chiral three-nucleon forces are found. Two- and three-nucleon interactions combined account for approximately 70% of the experimental pairing gaps, which leaves room for self-energy and induced interaction effects that are expected to be overall attractive in nuclei.
Talk given at the "International Workshop on (e,e'p) Processes", July 2-6, 2017, Bled, Slovenia. Various many-body calculations are compared and the results provided by the Normalization Conserving Linked Cluster Expansion with realistic NN interactions are reviewed and analyzed in detail, as far as ground state energies, momentum distributions and spectral functions of few-nucleon system and complex nuclei are concerned.
This report summarizes our understanding of antikaon-nucleon interactions and reviews the present theoretical situation in the quest for quasibound antikaon-nuclear systems.
We report variational Monte Carlo calculations of single-nucleon momentum distributions for A <= 12 nuclei and nucleon-pair and nucleon-cluster momentum distributions for A <= 8. The wave functions have been generated for a Hamiltonian containing the Argonne v18 two-nucleon and Urbana X three-nucleon potentials. The single-nucleon and nucleon-pair momentum distributions exhibit universal features attributable to the one-pion-exchange tensor interaction. The single-nucleon distributions are broken down into proton and neutron components and spin-up and spin-down components where appropriate. Th…
Relationships between mass intervals for free hadrons and in nuclei are studied in two theoretical approaches inspired by QCD: naive quark model and skyrmion model, taking one example each from mesons and baryons, that of pi-rho splitting in mesons, and nucleon-Delta splitting in baryons. Possible deconfinement effects in nuclei are examined.
The ground-state energy of the doubly magic nuclei 4He and 16O has been calculated within the framework of the Goldstone expansion starting from modern nucleon-nucleon potentials. A low-momentum potential V-low-k has been derived from the bare potential by integrating out its high-momentum components beyond a cutoff Lambda. We have employed a simple criterion to relate this cutoff momentum to a boundary condition for the two-nucleon model space spanned by a harmonic-oscillator basis. Convergence of the results has been obtained with a limited number of oscillator quanta.
We tested several choices of the in-medium value of the Bjorken scaling variable assuming the nucleon structure function in nucleus to be the same as that of free nucleon. The results unambiguously show that it is different.
Inclusive quasi-elastic electron scattering off nuclei is investigated at high momentum transfer (Q^2>1 (GeV/c)^2) and x>1 adopting a consistent treatment of nucleon-nucleon correlations in initial and final states. It is shown that in case of light as well as complex nuclei the inclusive cross section at 1.3<x<2 is dominated by the absorption of the virtual photon on a pair of correlated nucleons and by their elastic rescattering in the continuum, whereas at x>2 it is governed by the rescattering of the outgoing off-mass-shell nucleon in the complex optical potential generated by the ground s…
We have studied the low lying magnetic spectra of 12C, 16O, 40Ca, 48Ca and 208Pb nuclei within the Random Phase Approximation (RPA) theory, finding that the description of low-lying magnetic states of doubly-closed-shell nuclei imposes severe constraints on the spin and tensor terms of the nucleon-nucleon effective interaction. We have first made an investigation by using four phenomenological effective interactions and we have obtained good agreement with the experimental magnetic spectra, and, to a lesser extent, with the electron scattering responses. Then we have made self-consistent RPA c…
The 1S0 pairing gap in isospin-symmetric nuclear matter and finite nuclei is investigated using the chiral nucleon-nucleon potential at the N3LO order in the two-body sector, and the N2LO order in the three-body sector. To include realistic nuclear forces in RHB (Relativistic Hartree Bolgoliubov) calculations we rely on a separable form of the pairing interaction adjusted to the bare nuclear force. The separable pairing force is applied to the analysis of pairing properties for several isotopic and isotonic chains of spherical nuclei.
We solve the ab initio no-core shell model (NCSM) in the complete Nmax = 8 basis for A = 7 and A = 8 nuclei with two-nucleon and three-nucleon interactions derived within chiral effective field theory (EFT). We find that including the chiral EFT three-nucleon interaction in the Hamiltonian improves overall good agreement with experimental binding energies, excitation spectra, transitions and electromagnetic moments. We predict states that exhibit sensitivity to including the chiral EFT three-nucleon interaction but are not yet known experimentally.
The Dirac structure of the nucleon self-energy in asymmetric nuclear matter cannot reliably be deduced from the momentum dependence of the single-particle energies. It is demonstrated that such attempts yield an isospin dependence with even a wrong sign. Relativistic studies of finite nuclei have been based on such studies of asymmetric nuclear matter. The effects of these isospin components on the results for finite nuclei are investigated.
We study the influence of the nucleon spectral function on eta photo- and electroproduction on nuclei. Besides kinematical effects due to groundstate correlations, also a modification of the S11(1535) decay width is taken into account, which is caused by the possible decay into nucleons with mass smaller than the pole mass in the medium. Hence, resonances with masses below the free N eta threshold can contribute to eta production.
Several observables of unbound nucleons which are to some extent sensitive to the medium modifications of nucleon-nucleon elastic cross sections in neutron-rich intermediate energy heavy ion collisions are investigated. The splitting effect of neutron and proton effective masses on cross sections is discussed. It is found that the transverse flow as a function of rapidity, the $Q_{zz}$ as a function of momentum, and the ratio of halfwidths of the transverse to that of longitudinal rapidity distribution $R_{t/l}$ are very sensitive to the medium modifications of the cross sections. The transver…
We study the modification of the nucleon axial form factor in nuclear matter. The internal quark substructure of the nucleon is self-consistently described by the quark meson coupling model. We find that the axial form factor of the bound nucleon is quenched considerably from that of the free nucleon. The axial vector coupling constant is reduced by roughly 10% at normal nuclear matter density and the axial form factor varies within 8% for moderate momentum transfer.
This presentation reports on recent developments concerning basic aspects of low-energy QCD as they relate to the understanding of the nucleon mass and the nuclear many-body problem.
We developed a Monte Carlo event generator for production of nucleon configurations in complex nuclei consistently including effects of Nucleon-Nucleon (NN) correlations. Our approach is based on the Metropolis search for configurations satisfying essential constraints imposed by short- and long-range NN correlations, guided by the findings of realistic calculations of one- and two-body densities for medium-heavy nuclei. The produced event generator can be used for Monte Carlo (MC) studies of pA and AA collisions. We perform several tests of consistency of the code and comparison with previous…
The structure of exotic nuclei sheds new light on the linkage of the nuclear structure to the nucleonic interaction. The self-consistent mean-field (SCMF) theories are useful to investigate this linkage, which are applicable to many nuclei covering almost the whole range of the nuclear chart without artificial truncation of model space. For this purpose, it is desired to develop effective interaction for the SCMF calculations well connected to the bare nucleonic interaction. Focusing on ground-state properties, I show results of the SCMF calculations primarily with the M3Y-type semi-realistic …
Coulomb displacement energies, i.e., the differences between the energies of corresponding nuclear states in mirror nuclei, are evaluated using recent models for the nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction. These modern NN potentials account for breaking of isospin symmetry and reproduce $pp$ and $pn$ phase shifts accurately. The predictions by these new potentials for the binding of $^{16}O$ are calculated. A particular focus of our study are effects due to nuclear correlations and charge-symmetry breaking (CSB). We find that the CSB terms in the modern NN interactions substantially reduce the discr…
The spectroscopic strengths of two-nucleon transfer reactions constitute a stringent test for two-nucleon correlations in the nuclear wave functions. A comparison between the recently measured 198Hg(d,alpha)196Au reaction and the predictions from the nuclear quartet supersymmetry lends further support to the validity of supersymmetry in nuclear physics.
The quantum vacuum in a many-body system of finite nuclei has been investigated within the relativistic Hartree approach which describes the bound states of nucleons and anti-nucleons consistently. The contributions of the Dirac sea to the source terms of the meson-field equations are taken into account up to the one-nucleon loop and one-meson loop. The tensor couplings for the $ω$- and $ρ$-meson are included in the model. After adjusting the parameters of the model to the properties of spherical nuclei, a large effective nucleon mass $m^{*}/M_{N} \approx 0.78$ is obtained. The overall nucleon…
By introducing a density-dependent contact term, M3Y-type interactions applicable to the Hartree-Fock calculations are developed. In order to view basic characters of the interactions, we carry out calculations on the uniform nuclear matter as well as on several doubly magic nuclei. It is shown that a parameter-set called M3Y-P2 describes various properties similarly well to the Skyrme SLy5 and/or the Gogny D1S interactions. A remarkable difference from the SLy5 and the D1S interactions is found in the spin-isospin properties in the nuclear matter, to which the one-pion-exchange potential give…
Conflicting coupling of unpaired nucleons in the odd-odd nuclei is discussed. A very simple explanation is suggested for the damping of the energy spacing of the lowest levels in the rotational bands in the odd-odd nuclei in the case of a "conflicting" coupling of the odd proton and neutron comparative to those of the bands based on the state of the strongly-coupled particle in the neighbouring odd nuclei entering the "conflicting" configuration.
Parity-violating polarized electron scattering from nucleons and nuclei provides an excellent tool to extract valuable information on nuclear and nucleon structure, as well as to determine Standard Model couplings and higher-order radiative corrections. As measurements become more precise, theoretical models should improve accordingly in order to exploit the experimental data fully in extracting meaningful information. At the same time, it is crucial that theoretical evaluations come with realistic estimations of the corresponding theoretical uncertainties to establish that the precision reach…
The overall nucleon spectra of shell-model states are in agreement with the data. The calculated anti-nucleon spectra in the vacuum differ about 20 -- 30 MeV with and withou…
In this paper, we investigate the ground state properties ($i.e$ binding energy, nuclear radius, radial density distribution and single particle energies) for $^{4}He$ and $^{12}C$ nuclei at equilibrium and at large static compression at zero temperature by using two realistic different potentials namely, Nijmegen and Reid Soft Core (RSC)potentials. We carry out the calculations in No-Core Shell Model space consisting of six major oscillator shells within the framework of the Constrained Spherical Hartree- Fock (CSHF) approximations. We find out that, the computed equilibrium root mean square …
We determine the quark distributions and structure functions for both unpolarized and polarized DIS of leptons on nucleons and nuclei. The scalar and vector mean fields in the nucleus modify the motion of the quarks inside the nucleons. By taking into account this medium modification, we are able to reproduce the experimental data on the unpolarized EMC effect, and to make predictions for the polarized EMC effect. We discuss examples of nuclei where the polarized EMC effect could be measured. We finally present an extension of our model to describe fragmentation functions.
We study nuclear matter and finite nuclei in terms of the quark mean field (QMF) model, in which we describe the nucleon using the constituent quark model. The meson mean fields, in particular the sigma meson, created by other nucleons act on quarks inside a nucleon and change the nucleon properties in nuclear medium. The QMF model predicts an increasing size of the nucleon as well as a reduction of the nucleon mass in the nuclear environment. The present model is applied to study the properties of finite nuclei after fixing all the parameters by the nuclear matter properties, and it is found …
We study the bound states of anti-nucleons emerging from the lower continuum in finite nuclei within the relativistic Hartree approach including the contributions of the Dirac sea to the source terms of the meson fields. The Dirac equation is reduced to two Schrödinger-equivalent equations for the nucleon and the anti-nucleon respectively. These two equations are solved simultaneously in an iteration procedure. Numerical results show that the bound levels of anti-nucleons vary drastically when the vacuum contributions are taken into account.
The nucleon single-particle energies (SPEs) of the selected nuclei, that is, 16O, 40Ca, and 56Ni, are obtained by using the diagonal matrix elements of two-body effective interaction, which generated through the lowest order constrained variational (LOCV) calculations for the symmetric nuclear matter with the AV18 phenomenological nucleon-nucleon potential. The SPEs at the major levels of nuclei are calculated by employing a Hartree-Fock inspired scheme in the spherical harmonic oscillator basis. In the scheme, the correlation influences are taken into account by imposing the nucleon effective…
The deformation of a nucleon embedded in various finite nuclei is considered by taking into account the distortion of the chiral profile functions under the action of an external field representing the nuclear density. The baryon charge distribution of the nucleon inside light, medium-heavy and heavy nuclei is discussed. The mass of the nucleon decreases as it is placed deeper inside the nucleus and reaches its minimum at the center of the nucleus. We discuss the quantization of non-spherical solitons and its consequences for the mass splitting of the delta states. We show that bound nucleons …
We address the connection between the saturating behavior of infinite nuclear matter and the description of finite nuclei based on state-of-the-art chiral two- and three-nucleon forces. We observe that chiral two- and three-nucleon interactions (at N2LO and at N3LO) which have been found to predict realistic binding energies and radii for a wide range of finite nuclei (from p-shell nuclei up to nickel isotopes) are unable to saturate infinite nuclear matter. On the other hand, it has been shown that, when the fits of the cD and cE couplings of the chiral three-nucleon interactions include the …
The N/Z ratio of free nucleons from collisions of neutron-rich nuclei as a function of their momentum is studied by means of Isospin dependent Quantum Molecular Dynamics. We find that this ratio is not only sensitive to the form of the density dependence of the symmetry potential energy but also its strength determined by the symmetry energy coefficient. The uncertainties about the symmetry energy coefficient influence the accuracy of probing the density dependence of the symmetry energy by means of the N/Z ratio of free nucleons of neutron-rich nuclei.
The energy spectrum and the emission rate of particles emitted from excited nucleus due to both the evaporation and the splashing (emission from a cold vibrating nucleus) are calculated. We show that the collective motion of the nuclear Fermi liquid is accompanied by direct non-statistical emission of nucleons via the dynamical distortion of the Fermi surface.
We present our results for the exclusive electroproduction of pions off nucleons and nuclei at high values of $Q^2$. In electroproduction of nuclei $A(e,e'π)$ we consider the Color Transparency (CT) effect recently observed at JLAB. It is shown that the description of $π$ production off nucleons is mandatory for the proof of the CT signal at JLAB. We further develop the models for exclusive production of $π$ off nucleons at JLAB and HERMES. At first we describe a model based on exclusive-inclusive connection. In the second approach we combine a Regge pole approach with the residual effect of n…
New parameter-sets of the semi-realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction are developed, by modifying the M3Y interaction but maintaining the tensor channels and the longest-range central channels. The modification is made so as to reproduce microscopic results of neutron-matter energies, in addition to the measured binding energies of doubly magic nuclei including $^{100}$Sn and the even-odd mass differences of the Z=50 and N=82 nuclei in the self-consistent mean-field calculations. Separation energies of the proton- or neutron-magic nuclei are shown to be in fair agreement with the experimental d…
We study the in-medium modification of the isovector pi N amplitude using a non-linear representation of the sigma model but keeping the scalar degree of freedom. We check that our result does not depend on the representation. We discuss the connection with other approaches based on chiral perturbation theory.
The relativistic Hartree approach describing the bound states of both nucleons and anti-nucleons in finite nuclei has been extended to include tensor couplings for the $ω$- and $ρ$-meson. After readjusting the parameters of the model to the properties of spherical nuclei, the effect of tensor-coupling terms rises the spin-orbit force by a factor of 2, while a large effective nucleon mass $m^{*}/M_{N} \approx 0.8$ sustains. The overall nucleon spectra of shell-model states are improved evidently. The predicted anti-nucleon spectra in the vacuum are deepened about 20 -- 30 MeV.
Polarization observables for the A(e,e'NN) and A(γ,NN) reactions are a powerful tool to study nucleon-nucleon correlations in the nuclear medium. In this paper, model calculations for the ^{4}He(e,e'pp), ^{16}O(\vec{e},e'\vec{p}p), ^{16}O(\vec{e},e' \vec{p}n) and ^{12}C(\vecγ,\vec{p}N) reactions are presented. The sensitivity of the differential cross sections and polarization observables to central and spin-dependent nucleon-nucleon correlations is discussed.
In order to simulate the relativistic effects of the Dirac Brueckner Hartree Fock approach for finite nuclei the part of the Urbana 3 nucleon (3N) force is considered, which represents the enhancement of the small components of the Dirac spinors for the nucleons in the nuclear medium. This 3N force is included in a Brueckner Hartree Fock calculation with rearrangement terms using a realistic model for the NN interaction. The strength of the 3N force is adjusted to reproduce the empirical saturation point of nuclear matter and then used in corresponding studies of the closed shell nuclei $^{16}…
Novel processes probing the decay of nucleus after removal of a nucleon with momentum larger than Fermi momentum by hard probes finally proved unambiguously the evidence for long sought presence of short-range correlations (SRCs) in nuclei. In combination with the analysis of large $Q^2$, A(e,e')X processes at $x>1$ they allow us to conclude that (i) practically all nucleons with momenta $\ge$ 300 MeV/c belong to SRCs, consisting mostly of two nucleons, ii) probability of such SRCs in medium and heavy nuclei is $\sim 25%$, iii) a fast removal of such nucleon practically always leads to emissio…
The momentum dependence of the medium modifications on nucleon-nucleon elastic cross sections is discussed with microscopic transport theories and numerically investigated with an updated UrQMD microscopic transport model. The semi-peripheral Au+Au reaction at beam energy $E_b=400A$ MeV is adopted as an example. It is found that the uncertainties of the momentum dependence on medium modifications of cross sections influence the yields of free nucleons and their collective flows as functions of their transverse momentum and rapidity. Among these observables, the elliptic flow is sensitively dep…
We investigate eta electroproduction on nuclei for Q^2=2.4 and 3.6 GeV^2 in the framework of a coupled-channel BUU transport model. We analyze the importance of final state interactions and side feeding and compare with findings drawn from eta photoproduction. It is shown that in contrast to photoproduction the influence of etas stemming from secondary processes becomes important at high Q^2.
We test the compatibility of chiral symmetry, dynamic mass generation of the nucleon due to spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry, and the description of finite nuclear systems by employing an NJL model understood as a chiral invariant effective theory for nucleons. We apply the model to nuclear matter as well as to finite nuclei. In the latter case, the model is adjusted to nuclear ground-state observables. We treat the case of a pure chiral theory and the physically more realistic case where a portion of the nucleon mass (160 MeV) explicitly breaks chiral symmetry. The best version of this…
Ground state properties of finite nuclei ($^{16}$O and $^{40}$Ca) are evaluated from realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions. The calculations are based on the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approximation. Special attention is paid to the role of the energy spectrum for the particle states, in particular for those close to the Fermi energy. Additional binding energy is obtained from the inclusion of the hole-hole scattering term within the framework of the Green function approach. Results for the energy distribution of the single-particle strength and the sensitivity to the nucleon-nucleon interaction …
The description of the direct nucleon decay of high-spin subbarrier one-particle states in near-magic nuclei is attempted using a simple optical model and the simplest version of the coupled-channel approach. The branching ratios for the direct decay of the several single-neutron states in $^{209}Pb$ and $^{91}Zr$ to the ground state and to the low-lying collective states of $^{208}Pb$ and $^{90}Zr$, respectively, are evaluated. Results are compared with recent experimental data.
A modified version of the Multicluster Dynamic Model of nuclei is proposed to construct completely antisymmetrized wave functions of multicluster systems. An overlap kernel operator is introduced to renormalize the total wave function after antisymmetrization between nucleons in different clusters. A group-theoretical method is developed to analyze the role of the exchange effects arising in the calculation of the various observables of multicluster systems due to this antisymmetrization. The Antisymmetrized version of the Multicluster Dynamic Model is applied to the six-nucleon systems treati…
The role of three-nucleon forces (3NF) in the description of nuclear structure properties is nowadays a main topic in the field of microscopic many-nucleon calculations. We investigate the relative weight between effective two- and three-nucleon forces in neutron-rich nuclei beyond the doubly-closed 132Sn core within the realistic shell-model framework, studying the evolution of the spectroscopic properties of N=82 isotopes and heavy tin isotopes. This problem is tackled indirectly without explicitly taking into account effective 3NF through the comparison of the results of shell-model calcula…
Experimental studies of one nucleon knockout from magic nuclei suggest that their nucleon orbits are not fully occupied. This conflicts a commonly accepted view of the shell closure associated with such nuclei. The conflict can be reconciled if the overlap between initial and final nuclear states in a knockout reaction are calculated by a non-standard method. The method employs an inhomogeneous equation based on correlation-dependent effective nucleon-nucleon (NN) interactions and allows the simplest wave functions, in which all nucleons occupy only the lowest nuclear orbits, to be used. The m…
In the present study we find that nuclei having double width do not emit free nucleons for a long period of time necessary to study heavy-ion collisions. Also, the ground state properties of all the nuclei are also described well. In the low mass region, the obtained nuclei are less bound but stable. Heavy mass nuclei have proper binding energy and are stable
We show the first results for the elastic scattering of neutrons off oxygen and calcium isotopes obtained from ab initio optical potentials. The potential is derived using self consistent Green's function theory (SCGF) with the saturating chiral interaction NNLO$_{\textrm{sat}}$. Our calculations are compared to available scattering data and show that it is possible to reproduce low energy scattering observables in medium mass nuclei from first principles.
An ab-initio calculation scheme for finite nuclei based on self-consistent Green's functions in the Gorkov formalism is developed. It aims at describing properties of doubly-magic and semi-magic nuclei employing state-of-the-art microscopic nuclear interactions and explicitly treating pairing correlations through the breaking of U(1) symmetry associated with particle number conservation. The present paper introduces the formalism, necessary to undertake applications at (self-consistent) second-order using two-nucleon interactions, in a detailed and self-contained fashion. First applications of…
A general analytical expression has been obtained in the diffraction approximation for the polarization of nucleons arising in the deuteron stripping reaction on nuclei at intermediate energies of the incident particles. A tabulated density distribution of the target nucleus and a realistic wave function of the deuteron with correct asymptotic limits at large internucleon distances were used in the calculations. The nucleon-nucleus phase shifts were calculated in the Glauber formalism using the double folding potential. The calculated angular dependencies for the vector analyzing power $A_{y}$…
Quantal diffusion mechanism of nucleon exchange is studied in the central collisions of several symmetric heavy-ion collisions in the framework of the Stochastic Mean-Field (SMF) approach. Since at bombarding energies below the fusion barrier, di-nuclear structure is maintained, it is possible to describe nucleon exchange as a diffusion process familiar from deep-inelastic collisions. Quantal diffusion coefficients, including memory effects, for proton and neutron exchanges are extracted microscopically employing the SMF approach. The quantal calculations of neutron and proton variances are co…
Nuclei are prototypes of many-body open quantum systems. Complex aggregates of protons and neutrons that interact through forces arising from quantum chromo-dynamics, nuclei exhibit both bound and unbound states, which can be strongly coupled. In this respect, one of the major challenges for computational nuclear physics, is to provide a unified description of structural and reaction properties of nuclei that is based on the fundamental underlying physics: the constituent nucleons and the realistic interactions among them. This requires a combination of innovative theoretical approaches and hi…
