In the present study we find that nuclei having double width do not emit free nucleons for a long period of time necessary to study heavy-ion collisions. Also, the ground state properties of all the nuclei are also described well. In the low mass region, the obtained nuclei are less bound but stable. Heavy mass nuclei have proper binding energy and are stable
We report on our recent self-consistent calculations of $K^-$ nuclear quasi-bound states using $K^-$ optical potentials derived from chirally motivated meson-baryon coupled channels models [1,2]. The $K^-$ single-nucleon potentials were supplemented by a phenomenological $K^-$ multi-nucleon interaction term introduced to achieve good fits to $K^-$ atom data. We demonstrate a substantial impact of the $K^-$ multi-nucleon absorption on the widths of $K^-$ nuclear states. If such states ever exist in nuclear many-body systems, their widths are excessively large to allow observation.
We develop a new lattice Hamiltonian method for solving the Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (BUU) equation. Adopting the stochastic approach to treat the collision term and using the GPU parallel computing to carry out the calculations allows for a rather high accuracy in evaluating the collision term, especially its Pauli blocking, leading thus to a new level of precision in solving the BUU equation. Applying this lattice BUU method to study the width of giant dipole resonance (GDR) in nuclei, where the accurate treatment of the collision term is crucial, we find that the obtained GDR width of $^…
Partial decay widths of various decay channels of the X(1835) are evaluated in the 3P0 quark model, assuming that the X(1835) is a nucleon-antinucleon bound state. It is found that the decays to rho+rho, omega+omega and pion+a0(1450) dominate over other channels, and that the product branching fractions of J/psi to pion+pion+eta and J/psi to pion+pion+eta' are in the same order. We suggest that the X(1835) may be searched in the pion+a0(1450) channel.
We demonstrate that the binding energies and widths of eta-mesic nuclei depend strongly on subthreshold eta-N interaction. This strong dependence is made evident from comparing three different eta-nucleus optical potentials: (1) a microscopic optical potential taking into account the full effects of off-shell eta-nucleon interactions; (2) a factorization approximation to the microscopic optical potential where a downward energy shift parameter is introduced to approximate the subthreshold eta-nucleon interaction; and (3) an optical potential using on-shell eta-nucleon scattering length as the …
We analyze the effects of an in-medium broadening of nucleon resonances on the exclusive photoproduction of mesons on nuclei as well as on the total photoabsorption cross sections in a transport calculation. We show that the resonance widths observed in semi-inclusive photoproduction on nuclei are insensitive to an in-medium broadening of nucleon resonances. This is due to a simple effect: the sizeable width of the nuclear surface and Fermi motion.
In the real-time thermal field theory, the standard expression of shear viscosity for the nucleonic constituents is derived from the two point function of nucleonic viscous stress tensors at finite temperature and density. The finite thermal width or Landau damping is traditionally included in the nucleon propagators. This thermal width is calculated from the in-medium self-energy of nucleon for different possible pion-baryon loops. The dynamical part of nucleon-pion-baryon interactions are taken care by the effective Lagrangian densities of standard hadronic model. The shear viscosity to entr…
The process 3He(e,e'n) with polarized electrons and 3He in the initial state is theoretically analyzed with the aim to search for sensitivity to the electric form factor of the neutron, GEn. Faddeev calculations based on five high precision nucleon-nucleon force models are employed and stability versus exchange of the nucleon-nucleon forces is demonstrated.
The hydrodynamic stage of relativistic heavy-ion collisions simulations requires an energy density profile of the system as an initial condition. In the process of converting the two colliding nuclei into such an energy distribution, some specification about the $\textit{size}$ of their constituent nucleons inevitably has to be made. Nucleons are commonly modeled as bidimensional Gaussians, and the Gaussian width (the nucleon-width) is a free parameter of the simulation. A best-fit value of the nucleon-width can be inferred by Bayesian Analyses, where the model is confronted with experimental …
A new evaluation of the $1s$ level shift and width of kaonic deuterium is presented based on an accurate $\bar{K}NN$ three-body calculation, using as input a realistic antikaon-nucleon interaction constrained by the SIDDHARTA kaonic hydrogen data. The three-body Schrödinger equation is solved with a superposition of a large number of correlated Gaussian basis functions extending over distance scales up to several hundred fm. The resulting energy shift and width of the kaonic deuterium $1s$ level are $E\simeq 0.67$ keV and $Γ\simeq 1.02$ keV, with estimated uncertainties at the 10% level.
It has been suggested recently ({\it Phys. Rev. Lett.} 91, 232501 (2003)) that the widths of narrow proton resonances are related to neutron Asymptotic Normalization Coefficients (ANCs) of their bound mirror analogs because of charge symmetry of nucleon-nucleon interactions. This relation is approximated by a simple analytical formula which involves proton resonance energies, neutron separation energies, charges of residual nuclei and the range of their strong interaction with the last nucleon. In the present paper, we perform microscopic-cluster model calculations for the ratio of proton widt…
In the framework of the nuclear spectral function approach for incoherent primary proton-nucleon and secondary pion-nucleon production processes we study the inclusive $ϕ$ meson production in the interaction of 2.83 GeV protons with nuclei. In particular, the A- and momentum-dependences of the absolute and relative phi meson yields are investigated within the different scenarios for its in-medium width. Our model calculations take into account the acceptance window of the ANKE facility used in a recent experiment performed at COSY. They show that the pion-nucleon production channel contributes…
New parameter-sets of the M3Y-type semi-realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction are obtained, by taking into account the whole contribution of the interaction to the pairing. The interactions are applicable to nuclear structure studies via mean-field calculations and their extensions. Implementing self-consistent mean-field calculations for the spherical nuclei, we confirm that the results do not change significantly from the previous ones, in which the parameters were determined by partly discarding influence of the density-dependent repulsion on the pairing.
It is shown that experimental values of the cross sections of inelastic low-energy neutron scattering on even-even nuclei together with the description of these cross sections in the framework of the coupled channel optical model may be considered as a reliable method for finding nuclei with a semimagic number (or numbers) of nucleons. Some examples of the application of this method are considered.
Semi-realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions applicable to the self-consistent mean-field (both Hartree-Fock and Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov) calculations are developed, by modifying the M3Y interaction. The modification is made so as to reproduce binding energies and rms matter radii of doubly magic nuclei, single-particle levels in $^{208}$Pb, and even-odd mass differences of the Sn isotopes. We find parameter-sets with and without the tensor force. The new interactions are further checked by the saturation properties of the uniform nuclear matter including the Landau-Migdal parameters. By the me…
We consider a symmetry-preserving approach to the nucleon-nucleon scattering problem in the framework of the higher-derivative formulation of baryon chiral perturbation theory. Within this framework the leading-order amplitude is calculated by solving renormalizable equations and corrections are taken into account perturbatively.
Owing to the Kubo relation, the shear viscosities of pionic and nucleonic components have been evaluated from their corresponding retarded correlators of viscous stress tensor in the static limit, which become non-divergent only for the non-zero thermal widths of the constituent particles. In the real-time thermal field theory, the pion and nucleon thermal widths have respectively been obtained from the pion self-energy for different meson, baryon loops and the nucleon self-energy for different pion-baryon loops. We have found a non-monotonic momentum distributions of pion and nucleon thermal …
New parameter-sets of the semi-realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction are developed, by modifying the M3Y interaction but maintaining the tensor channels and the longest-range central channels. The modification is made so as to reproduce microscopic results of neutron-matter energies, in addition to the measured binding energies of doubly magic nuclei including $^{100}$Sn and the even-odd mass differences of the Z=50 and N=82 nuclei in the self-consistent mean-field calculations. Separation energies of the proton- or neutron-magic nuclei are shown to be in fair agreement with the experimental d…
Magic numbers are predicted in wide range of the nuclear chart by the self-consistent mean-field calculations with the M3Y-P6 and P7 semi-realistic $NN$ interactions. The magic numbers are identified by vanishing pair correlations in the spherical Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov regime. We also identify submagic numbers when energy gain due to the pairing is sufficiently small. It is found that the results with M3Y-P6 well correspond to the known data, apart from a few exceptions. For some of the magic or submagic numbers the prediction differs from that with the Gogny-D1S or D1M interaction. Roles of…
A detailed comparison of the expressions for the decay widths obtained within the semiclassical WKB approximation using different approaches to the tunneling problem is performed. The differences between the available improved formulae for tunneling near the top and the bottom of the barrier are investigated. Though the simple WKB method gives the right order of magnitude of the decay widths, a small number of parameters are often fitted. The need to perform the fitting procedure remaining consistently within the WKB framework is emphasized in the context of the fission model based calculation…
Even though the total hadronic nucleus-nucleus cross section is among the most fundamental observables, it has only recently been measured precisely for lead-lead collisions at the LHC. This measurement implies the nucleon width should be below 0.7 fm, which is in contradiction with all known state-of-the-art Bayesian estimates. We study the implications of the smaller nucleon width on quark-gluon plasma properties such as the bulk viscosity. The smaller nucleon width dramatically improves the description of several triple-differential observables.
Self-consistent single-nucleon potential at positive energy produced by semi-realistic interaction and its examination via nucleon-nucleus elastic scattering
We study the influence of the nucleon spectral function on eta photo- and electroproduction on nuclei. Besides kinematical effects due to groundstate correlations, also a modification of the S11(1535) decay width is taken into account, which is caused by the possible decay into nucleons with mass smaller than the pole mass in the medium. Hence, resonances with masses below the free N eta threshold can contribute to eta production.
An ab-initio calculation scheme for finite nuclei based on self-consistent Green's functions in the Gorkov formalism is developed. It aims at describing properties of doubly-magic and semi-magic nuclei employing state-of-the-art microscopic nuclear interactions and explicitly treating pairing correlations through the breaking of U(1) symmetry associated with particle number conservation. The present paper introduces the formalism, necessary to undertake applications at (self-consistent) second-order using two-nucleon interactions, in a detailed and self-contained fashion. First applications of…
We present an analysis of electromagnetic elastic form factors, helicity amplitudes and strong decay widths of non-strange baryon resonances, within a collective model of the nucleon. Flavor-breaking and stretching effects are considered. Deviations from the naive three-constituents description are pointed out.
The recently developed semi-local improved chiral nucleon-nucleon interaction is used for the first time to study several electromagnetic and weak processes at energies below the pion production threshold. Cross sections and selected polarization observables for deuteron photodisintegration, nucleon-deuteron radiative capture, three-body $^3$He photodisintegration as well as capture rates for decays of the muonic $^2$H and $^3$He atoms are calculated. The Lippmann-Schwinger and Faddeev equations in momentum space are solved to obtain nuclear states. The electromagnetic current operator is take…
A meson-exchange model for pion-nucleon scattering was previously constructed using a three-dimensional reduction scheme of the Bethe-Salpeter equation for a model Lagrangian involving π, η, N, Δ, ρ, and σfields. We thereby extend our previous work by including the ηN channel and all the πN resonances with masses ~ 2 GeV, up to the F waves. The effects of the ππN channels are taken into account by introducing an effective width in the resonance propagators. The extended model gives an excellent fit to both πN phase shifts and inelasticity parameters in all channels up to the F waves and for en…
Semi-inclusive deep inelastic lepton scattering off few-nucleon systems is investigated assuming that virtual boson absorption occurs on a hadronic cluster which can be either a two-nucleon correlated pair or a six-quark bag. In both cases the relevance of nuclear effects on forward and backward nucleon emissions is illustrated and the differences expected in the energy distribution of the emitted nucleons are analyzed both at x>1 and x<1.
The relativistic mean field (RMF) model is applied to a system of nucleons and a $\bar K$ meson, interacting via scalar and vector boson fields. The model incorporates the standard RMF phenomenology for bound nucleons and, for the $\bar K$ meson, it relates to low-energy ${\bar K}N$ and $K^-$ atom phenomenology. Deeply bound $\bar K$ nuclear states are generated dynamically across the periodic table and are exhibited for $^{12}$C and $^{16}$O over a wide range of binding energies. Substantial polarization of the core nucleus is found for these light nuclei. Absorption modes are also included d…
In the framework of the nuclear spectral function approach for incoherent primary proton-nucleon and secondary pion-nucleon production processes we study the inclusive Lambda(1520) hyperon production in the interaction of 2.83 GeV protons with nuclei. In particular, the A and momentum dependences of the absolute and relative Lambda(1520) hyperon yields are investigated in two scenarios for its in-medium width. Our model calculations show that the pion-nucleon production channel contributes distinctly to the "low-momentum" Lambda(1520) creation both in light and heavy nuclei in the chosen kinem…
The mass shift and width broadening of rho-mesons produced in heavy ion collisions is estimated using general formulae which relate the in-medium mass shift of a particle to the real part of the forward scattering amplitude of this particle on constituents of the medium and the width broadening to the corresponding cross section. It is found that the mass increases by some tens of MeV but, more importantly, the width becomes large, increasing by several hundred MeV at beam energies of a few GeV per nucleon and by twice that amount at beam energies of about a hundred GeV per nucleon.
The semi-inclusive cross section for producing slow protons in charged current deep inelastic (anti-) neutrino scattering on protons and neutrons is calculated as a function of the Bjorken $x$ and the proton momentum. The standard hadronization models based upon the colour neutralization mechanism appear to underestimate the rate of slow proton production on hydrogen. The presence of the virtual mesons (pions) in the nucleon leads to an additional mechanism for proton production, referred to as spectator process. It is found that at low proton momenta both mechanisms compete, whereas the spect…
We calculate the spin-dependent polarizability of the nucleon in the Skyrme model. The result is compared with that of a heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory(HBChPT), and is shown to be the same as that of HBChPT up to the $Δ$-pole terms in the narrow width limit of the $Δ$ state and with the experimental physical constants. The effect of the $Δ+π$ channel is rather small and is numerically quite similar to that of the $Δ$ loop in the HBChPT. The electric and magnetic polarizabilities are recalculated using the transverse photon and a consistent inclusion of the $Δ$ width.
A three-body semiclassical model is proposed to describe the nucleon transfer and emission reactions in a heavy-ion collision. In this model the two heavy particles, i.e. nuclear cores A$_1(Z_{A_1}, M_{A_1})$ and A$_2(Z_{A_2}, M_{A_2})$, move along classical trajectories $\vec R_1(t)$ and $\vec R_2(t)$ respectively, while the dynamics of the lighter neutron, n, is considered from a quantum mechanical point of view. Here, $M_i$ are the nucleon masses and $Z_i$ are the Coulomb charges of the heavy nuclei ($i=1,2$). A Faddeev-type semiclassical formulation using realistic paired nuclear-nuclear p…
Using hadron dynamics we calculate nuclear transparencies for protons, knocked-out in high-$Q^2$, semi-inclusive reactions. Predicted transparencies are, roughly half a standard deviation above the NE18 data. The latter contain the effects of binned proton missing momenta and mass, and of finite detector acceptances. In order to test sensitivity we compare computed transparencies without restrictions and the same with maximal cuts for missing momenta and the electron energy loss. We find hardly any variation, enabling a meaningful comparison with data and predictions based on hadron dynamics. …
Partial decay widths of the nucleon resonances $S_{11}(1535)$, $S_{11}(1650)$, $D_{13}(1520)$ and $D_{13}(1700)$ to the pseudoscalar mesons and octet baryons are studied within a chiral constituent quark model. The effects of the configurations mixing between the states $|N^{2}_{8}P_{M}>$ and $|N^{4}_{8}P_{M}>$ are considered, taking into account the breakdown of the $SU(6)\otimes O(3)$ symmetry. In addition, possible contributions of the strangeness components in the $S_{11}$ resonances are investigated. Experimental data for the partial decay widths of the $S_{11}$ and $D_{13}$ resonances ar…
We discuss multi-hadron production in both inelastic neutrino-nucleon interactions in the current fragmentation region and neutrino-nucleus collisions in the target fragmentation region. Our analysis, carried out within the framework of the quark-gluon string model, is mainly focused on the difference between these two processes. We show that the $Q^2$ dependence of hadron multiplicity in the current and target fragmentation regions is indeed completely different. The study of inelastic $ν-A$ scattering in the target fragmentation region also provides new information on nuclear structure at sm…
Some of the recent attempts to detect signals of nucleon-nucleon correlations with semi-exclusive A(e,e'p) and exclusive A(e,e'pN) processes are reviewed. Unfactorized and distorted-wave calculations for these processes are discussed. The calculations implement two-body currents stemming from pion-exchange and intermediate $Δ$ excitation. The two-body currents are shown to be highly competitive with the mechanisms related to nucleon-nucleon correlations. This observation seriously hampers attempts to link semi-exclusive A(e,e'p) measurements, which probe high missing energies, to the correlate…
Nucleon drift and diffusion mechanisms in central collisions of asymmetric heavy-ions at near-barrier energies are investigated in the framework of a stochastic mean-field approach. Expressions for diffusion and drift coefficients for nucleon transfer deduced from the stochastic mean-field approach in the semiclassical approximation have similar forms familiar from the phenomenological nucleon exchange model. The variance of fragment mass distribution agrees with the empirical formula $σ^2_{AA}(t)= N_{\rm exc}(t)$. The comparison with the time-dependent Hartree-Fock calculations shows that, be…
In the framework of the nuclear spectral function approach for incoherent primary proton--nucleon and secondary pion--nucleon production processes we study the inclusive $ϕ$ meson production in the interaction of 2.83 GeV protons with nuclei. In particular, the A-dependences of the absolute and relative $ϕ$ meson yields are investigated within the different scenarios for its in-medium width as well as for the cross section ratio $σ_{pn \to pnϕ}/{σ_{pp \to ppϕ}}$. Our model calculations take into account the acceptance window of the ANKE facility used in a recent experiment performed at COSY. T…
The ppK^- system, as a prototype for possible quasibound Kbar nuclei,is investigated using a variational approach. Several versions of energy dependent effective KbarN interactions derived from chiral SU(3) dynamics are employed as input, together with a realistic NN potential (Av18). Taking into account theoretical uncertainties in the extrapolations below the KbarN threshold, we find that the antikaonic dibaryon ppK^- is NOT deeply bound. With the driving s-wave KbarN interaction the resulting total binding energy is B(ppK^-) = 20 $\pm$ 3 MeV and the mesonic decay width involving KbarN -> πY…
An explicit pionic component of the nucleon may be identified by measuring polarized $Δ^{++}$ fragments produced in deep-inelastic scattering off polarized protons. The pion-exchange model predicts highly correlated polarizations of the $Δ^{++}$ and target proton, in marked contrast with the competing diquark fragmentation process.
A new trial wave function is proposed for nuclear physics, in which an exact solution to the long-standing center-of-mass problem is given. In the new approach, the widths of the single-nucleon Gaussian wave packets and the widths of the relative Gaussian wave functions describing correlations of nucleons or clusters are treated as variables in the explicit intrinsic wave function of the nuclear system. As an example, this new wave function was applied to study the typical ${^{20}{\rm Ne}}$ ($α$+${^{16}{\rm O}}$) cluster system. By removing exactly the spurious center-of-mass effect in a very …
Effective charged neutrons involved in one- and two- nucleon tunneling processes in heavy ion collisions between superfluid nuclei are expected to emit photons. Although the centroid, width and integrated energy area characterizing the associated gamma-strength functions are rather similar, the corresponding line shapes reflect the thermal equilibrated-like character of the quasiparticle transfer (1n-channel, blackbody spectral functional dependence), and the quantal coherent character of the Cooper pair transfer (2n-channel, Gaussian functional dependence) respectively. The predicted angular …
Kaon production cross sections in nucleon-nucleon, nucleon-delta and delta-delta interactions are studied in a boson exchange model. For the latter two interactions, the exchanged pion can be on-mass shell, only contributions due to a virtual pion are included via the Peierls method by taking into account the finite delta width. With these cross sections and also those for pion-baryon interactions, subthreshold kaon production from heavy ion collisions is studied in the relativistic transport model.
A model recently introduced by Jaffe and Wilczek based on the quarks being dynamically bound into diquarks has been used to predict that the recently observed exotic baryons (pentaquarks) fall into a nearly ideally mixed combination of an octer and anti-decuplet representations of SU(3) flavor. The model predicts two states with nucleon quantum numbers which have tentatively been identified with the N*(1440) and the N*(1710). This paper examines the viability of this model by focusing on the decay width of the nucleon members of the multiplet. An inequality relating the partial widths of these…
We calculated the mass and width of the $d'$ resonance inside nuclei within a nucleon-$Δ$ model by including the self-energy of the $Δ$ in the $NΔ$ propagator. We found that in the nuclear medium the width of the $d'$ is increased by one order of magnitude while its mass changes only by a few MeV. This broadening of the width of the $d'$ resonance embedded in nuclei is consistent with the experimental observations so that the $d'$ can be understood as a $NΔ$ resonance. Thus, given the freedom between either isospin 0 or isospin 2 for the $d'$, our results give weigth to the isospin-2 assignmen…
We investigate the strong and radiative decay widths of the narrow nucleon resonances $N^*(1685)$ and $N^{\ast}(1726)$ within the framework of the SU(3) chiral quark-soliton model. All the relevant parameters are taken from those used to describe the properties of the baryon octet and decuplet in previous works. The masses of the antidecuplet nucleon and the eikosiheptaplet (27-plet) nucleon with spin 3/2 are determined respectively to be $(1690.2\pm 10.5)\, \mathrm{MeV}$ and $(1719.6\pm7.4)\,\mathrm{MeV}$. The decay width for $N^{\ast}(1685)\to η+ N$ is found to be approximately three times l…
We investigate the possibility of identifying an explicit pionic component of the nucleon through measurements of polarized $Δ^{++}$ baryon fragments produced in deep-inelastic leptoproduction off polarized protons, which may help to identify the physical mechanism responsible for the breaking of the Gottfried sum rule. The pion-exchange model predicts highly correlated polarizations of the $Δ^{++}$ and target proton, in marked contrast with the competing diquark fragmentation process. Measurement of asymmetries in polarized $Λ$ production may also reveal the presence of a kaon cloud in the nu…
We study the binding energies of spin-isospin saturated nuclei with nucleon number $8 \le A \le 100$ in semiclassical Monte Carlo many-body simulations. The model Hamiltonian consists of, (i) nucleon kinetic energy, (ii) a nucleon-nucleon interaction potential, and (iii) an effective Pauli potential which depends on density. The basic ingredients of the nucleon-nucleon potential are, a short-range repulsion, and a medium-range attraction. Our results demonstrate that one can always expect to obtain the empirical binding energies for a set of nuclei by introducing a proper density dependent Pau…
We investigate modifications of mass and decay width of $N^*(1535)$ in nuclear matter in a chiral symmetric way. The nucleon and $N^*(1535)$ are introduced by a parity doublet model, and nuclear matter is constructed by one-loop diagrams of the nucleon and $N^*(1535)$. The decay width of $N^*(1535)$ is studied respecting chiral symmetry. Our calculations show that the partial width of $Γ_{N^*\to Nπ}$ is slightly broadened by a collisional broadening, and that of $Γ_{N^*\to Nη}$ is drastically suppressed at density. As a result, the total decay width $Γ_{\rm tot}$ gets small at density. These m…
Three-body hadronic models with separable pairwise interactions are formulated and solved to calculate resonance masses and widths of L=0 N-Delta and Delta-Delta dibaryons using relativistic kinematics. For N-Delta, I(JP)=1(2+) and 2(1+) resonances slightly below threshold are found by solving pi-N-N Faddeev equations. For Delta-Delta, several resonances below threshold are found by solving pi-N-Delta Faddeev equations in which the N-Delta interaction is dominated by the 1(2+) and 2(1+) resonating channels. The lowest Delta-Delta dibaryon resonances found are for I(JP)=0(3+) and 3(0+), the for…
In neutrino event generators, for models for neutrino and electron scattering only inclusive cross sections are implemented. When these models are used to describe a semi-inclusive cross section, the event generator attaches the hadron variables based on some assumptions. In this work we compare the nucleon kinematics given by the method used in the GENIE event generator, e.g. in the implementation of the SuSAv2 model, to a fully unfactorized calculation using the relativistic distorted wave impulse approximation (RDWIA). We focus on kinematics relevant to the $e4ν$ analysis and show that obse…

We have examined the existence of the $N^*(1685)$ resonance, which is recently listed by the Particle Data Group as a one-star nucleon resonance, by using a covariant isobar model for kaon photoproduction and assuming that the resonance has $J^p=1/2^+$, in accordance with our previous finding. After the inclusion of this resonance the changes in the total $χ^2$ show two clear minima at $M_{N^*}=1650$ and 1696 MeV, which correspond to two different resonance states. The former corresponds to the narrow nucleon resonance found in our previous investigation, whereas the latter corresponds to a ne…
Recent studies of strong interaction effects in kaonic atoms suggest that analysing so-called `lower' and `upper' levels in the same atom could separate one-nucleon absorption from multinucleon processes. The present work examines the feasibility of direct measurements of upper level widths in addition to lower level widths in future experiments, using superconducting microcalorimeter detectors. About ten elements are identified as possible candidates for such experiments, all of medium-weight and heavy nuclei. New experiments focused on achieving good accuracy for widths of such pairs of leve…
We study the parity-violating alpha+d decay of the lowest 0+ state of Li-6 in a microscopic three-cluster model. The initial bound and the final scattering states are described consistently within the same model. The parity-violating decay width is calculated in perturbation theory using the parity-nonconserving nucleon-nucleon interaction of Desplanques, Donoghue, and Holstein (DDH). We find that the decay width is sensitive to dynamical degrees of freedom which are beyond the alpha+p+n model, for example, alpha excitation and breakup. In our full model, which contains breathing excitations o…
