The recently developed semi-local improved chiral nucleon-nucleon interaction is used for the first time to study several electromagnetic and weak processes at energies below the pion production threshold. Cross sections and selected polarization observables for deuteron photodisintegration, nucleon-deuteron radiative capture, three-body $^3$He photodisintegration as well as capture rates for decays of the muonic $^2$H and $^3$He atoms are calculated. The Lippmann-Schwinger and Faddeev equations in momentum space are solved to obtain nuclear states. The electromagnetic current operator is taken as a single nucleon current supplemented by many-body contributions induced via the Siegert theorem. For muon capture processes the nonrelativistic weak current together with the dominant relativistic corrections is used. Our results compare well with experimental data, demonstrating the same quality as is observed for the semi-phenomenological AV18 potential. Compared to the older version of the chiral potential with a nonlocal regularization, a much smaller cut-off dependence is found for the state-of-art chiral local interaction employed in this paper. Finally, estimates of errors due to the truncation of the chiral expansion are given.
There are currently no models readily available that provide nucleon-nucleon spin dependent scattering amplitudes at high energies ($s \geq 6$ GeV$^2$). This work aims to provide a model for calculating these high-energy scattering amplitudes. The foundation of the model is Regge theory since it allows for a relativistic description and full spin dependence. A parameterization of the amplitudes is presented, and comparisons of the solution to the assembled data set are shown. In addition, an application of the model to describe final state interactions in deuteron electrodisintegration is pres…
We investigate the effect of different relativistic spin couplings of constituent quarks on nucleon electroweak properties. Within each quark spin coupling scheme the correlations between static electroweak observables are found to be independent of the particular shape of the momentum part of the nucleon light-front wave function. The neutron charge form factor is very sensitive to different choices of spin coupling schemes once the magnetic moment is fitted to the experimental value. However, it is found rather insensitive to the details of the momentum part of the three-quark wave function …
Recent advances in the study of the p-d radiative and mu-3he weak capture processes are presented and discussed. The three-nucleon bound and scattering states are obtained using the correlated-hyperspherical-harmonics method, with realistic Hamiltonians consisting of the Argonne v14 or Argonne v18 two-nucleon and Tucson-Melbourne or Urbana IX three-nucleon interactions. The electromagnetic and weak transition operators include one- and two-body contributions. The theoretical accuracy achieved in these calculations allows for interesting comparisons with experimental data.
One way to treat the infrared divergences of the electroweak Next-to-Leading-Order (NLO) differential cross sections to parity-violating (PV) electron-proton scattering is by adding soft-photon emission contribution. Although more physical, the results are left with a logarithmic dependence on the photon detector acceptance, which can only be eliminated by considering Hard Photon Bremsstrahlung (HPB) contribution. Here we present a treatment of HPB for PV electron-proton scattering. HPB differential cross sections for electron-proton scattering have been computed using the experimental values …

The research activitities carried out in Italy during the last two years in the field of theoretical nuclear physics with electroweak probes are reviewed. Different models for electron-nucleus and neutrino-nucleus scattering are compared. The results obtained for electromagnetic reactions on few-nucleon systems and on complex nuclei are discussed. The recent developments in the study of electron- and photon-induced reactions with one and two-nucleon emission are presented.
Next-to-Leading-Order (NLO) effects play a crucial role in tests of the Standard Model (SM), and require careful theoretical evaluation. Electroweak physics, which has just entered the precision age, is an excellent place to search for new physics, but also requires considerable theoretical input. We show how we applied computational packages such as FeynArts, FormCalc, Form and LoopTools for the evaluation of one-loop electroweak and hadronic radiative corrections.
Two different aspects of the description of three- and four-nucleon systems are addressed. The use of bound state like wave functions to describe scattering states in $N-d$ collisions at low energies and the effects of some of the widely used three-nucleon force models in selected polarization observables in the three- and four-nucleon systems are discussed.
The investigation of light nuclei with ab-initio methods provides an optimal setting to probe our knowledge on nuclear forces, because the few-nucleon problem can be solved accurately. Nucleons interact not only in pairs but also via many-body forces. Theoretical efforts need to be taken towards the identification of nuclear observables sensitive to the less known many-nucleon forces. Electromagnetic reactions can potentially provide useful information on this. We present results on photo-absorption and electron scattering off light nuclei, emphasizing the role of three-body forces and the com…
We investigate the imaginary parts of the nucleon electromagnetic and axial form factors close to threshold in the framework of heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. For the isovector electromagnetic form factors, we recover the well known strong enhancement near threshold. For the isoscalar ones, we show that there is no visible enhancement due to the three--pion continuum. This justifies the use of vector meson poles only in dispersion--theoretical calculations. We also calculate the imaginary part of the nucleon isovector axial form factor and show that it is small in the threshold regio…
We demonstrate how to make rigorous predictions for electroweak matrix elements in nuclear systems directly from QCD. More precisely, we show how to determine the short-distance contributions to low-momentum transfer electroweak matrix elements in the two-nucleon sector from lattice QCD. In potential model descriptions of multi-nucleon systems, this is equivalent to uniquely determining the meson-exchange currents, while in the context of nuclear effective field theory, this translates into determining the coefficients of local, gauge-invariant, multi-nucleon-electroweak current operators. The…
After a brief introduction into the basic ingredients of electroweak theory as a spontaneously broken local, non-Abelian gauge symmetry, the general properties of the electromagnetic current and two-photon operators are discussed. The specific forms of vector and axial one-nucleon currents are given, together with lowest order $π$ meson exchange and isobar currents as well as meson production currents. A brief overview is given on the most important one- and two-boson processes. Electron scattering in the one-boson- approximation is then considered in greater detail. Formal expressions of the …
Results for the proton and neutron electric and magnetic form factors as well asthe nucleon axial and induced pseudoscalar form factors are presented for the chiral constituent quark model based on Goldstone-boson-exchange dynamics. The calculations are performed in a covariant framework using the point-form approach to relativistic quantum mechanics. The direct predictions of the model yield a remarkably consistent picture of the electroweak nucleon structure.
We discuss the convergence of the expansion of the nuclear electroweak current in powers of |k|/M, where M is the nucleon mass and k denotes either the momentum transfer or the momentum of the struck nucleon. We have computed the electron and neutrino scattering cross sections off uniform nuclear matter at equilibrium density using correlated wave functions and the cluster expansion formalism. The results of our work suggest that the proposed approach provides accurate estimates of the measured electron scattering cross sections. On the other hand, the description of the current based on the w…
Some open topics in the field of low energy photon-nucleon interactions are discussed--which in my opinion are of interest both for obtaining new information on nucleon structure as well as for precision tests of our theoretical understanding of chiral dynamics. In particular, I discuss p-wave multipoles in charged pion photoproduction off protons as well as the role of spin-dependent effects in (unpolarized) Compton scattering off nucleons. There the concept of dynamical spin polarizabilities is found to be essential for the understanding of differential Compton cross sections above 120 MeV c…
Since the pioneering work of Weinberg, Chiral Effective Field Theory ($χ$EFT) has been widely and successfully utilized in nuclear physics to study many-nucleon interactions and associated electroweak currents. Nuclear $χ$EFT has now developed into an intense field of research and is applied to study light to medium mass nuclei. In this contribution, we focus on the development of electroweak currents from $χ$EFT and present applications to selected nuclear electroweak observables.
A status report on $χ$EFT studies of few-nucleon electroweak structure and dynamics is provided, including electromagnetic form factors of few-nucleon systems, the $pp$ weak fusion and muon weak captures on deuteron and $^3$He, and a number of parity-violating processes induced by hadronic weak interactions.
I overview our recent activity with the Argonne-Osaka dynamical coupled-channels (DCC) approach that provides a unified description of various electroweak meson productions on single nucleon and nucleus. First I discuss the DCC model of a single nucleon. The DCC model has been developed through a comprehensive analysis of $πN, γN\to πN, ηN, KΛ, KΣ$ reaction data. The model has been further extended to finite $Q^2$ region by analyzing pion electroproduction data, and to neutrino-induced reactions using the PCAC relation. Next I discuss applications of the DCC model to electroweak meson producti…
A systematic error in the extraction of $\sin^2 θ_W$ from nuclear deep inelastic scattering of neutrinos and antineutrinos arises from higher-twist effects arising from nuclear shadowing. We explain that these effects cause a correction to the results of the recently reported significant deviation from the Standard Model that is potentially as large as the deviation claimed, and of a sign that cannot be determined without an extremely careful study of the data set used to model the input parton distribution functions.
A semi-empirical formula for the electroweak response functions in the two-nucleon emission channel is proposed. The method consists in expanding each one of the vector-vector, axial-axial and vector-axial responses as sums of six sub-responses. These corresponds to separating the meson-exchange currents as the sum of three currents of similar structure, and expanding the hadronic tensor, as the sum of the separate contributions from each current plus the interferences between them. For each sub-response we factorize the coupling constants, the electroweak form factors, the phase space and the…
[Background] Neutrino-induced single-pion production (SPP) provides an important contribution to neutrino-nucleus interactions, ranging from intermediate to high energies. There exists a good number of low-energy models in the literature to describe the neutrinoproduction of pions in the region around the Delta resonance. Those models consider only lowest-order interaction terms and, therefore, fail in the high-energy region (pion-nucleon invariant masses, $W$>2 GeV). [Purpose] Our goal is to develop a model for electroweak SPP off the nucleon, which is applicable to the entire energy range of…
The results from an investigation of the incoherent single pion electroweak production on the deuteron in the $Δ$(1232) region are reported. The importance of including the nucleon-nucleon final state interactions in extracting the neutrino-nucleon cross sections from the data obtained from the experiments on the deuteron target is demonstrated.
In the first part of these lectures, I consider chiral perturbation theory in the presence of matter fields. It allows to systematically work out the consequences of the broken chiral symmetry of QCD. As examples, threshold pion photo- and electroproduction and (spin-flip) nucleon Compton scattering are considered. The second part deals with the quark structure of the nucleon at low energies. The various electromagnetic and weak form factors are discussed. It is shown how parity-violating electron and (anti)neutrino scattering off nucleons and nuclei can be used as a tool to pin down strange m…
We consider the nucleon-nucleon scattering problem by applying time-ordered perturbation theory to the Lorentz invariant formulation of baryon chiral perturbation theory. Using a symmetry preserving higher derivative form of the effective Lagrangian, we exploit the freedom of the choice of the renormalization condition and obtain an integral equation for the scattering amplitude with an improved ultraviolet behavior. The resulting formulation is used to quantify finite regulator artifacts in two-nucleon phase shifts as well as in the chiral extrapolations of the S-wave scattering lengths and t…
The study of pion production in nuclei is important for signal and background determinations in current and future neutrino oscillation experiments. The first step, however, is to understand the pion production reactions at the free nucleon level. We present an exhaustive study of the charged-current and neutral-current neutrino and antineutrino pion production off nucleons, paying a special attention to the angular distributions of the outgoing pion. We show, using general arguments, that parity violation and time-reversal odd correlations in the weak differential cross sections are generated…
We employ a variety of ab initio methods including Faddeev-Yakubovsky equations, No-Core Configuration Interaction Approach, Coupled-Cluster Theory and In-Medium Similarity Renormalization Group to perform a comprehensive analysis of the nucleon-deuteron elastic and breakup reactions and selected properties of light and medium-mass nuclei up to 48Ca using the recently constructed semilocal coordinate-space regularized chiral nucleon-nucleon potentials. We compare the results with those based on selected phenomenological and chiral EFT two-nucleon potentials, discuss the convergence pattern of …
Impulsive hadronic descriptions of electroweak processes in nuclei involve two distinctly different elements: one stems from the nuclear many-body physics --- the medium --- which is rather similar for the various inclusive response functions, and the other embodies the responses of the hadrons themselves to the electroweak probe and varies with the channel selected. In this letter we investigate within the context of the relativistic Fermi gas in both the quasi-elastic and $N\toΔ$ regimes the interplay between these two elements. Specifically, we focus on expansions in the one small parameter…
Effective Hamiltonians and effective electroweak operators are calculated with the Okubo-Lee-Suzuki formalism for two-nucleon systems. Working within a harmonic oscillator basis, first without and then with a confining harmonic oscillator trap, we demonstrate the effects of renormalization on observables calculated for truncated basis spaces. We illustrate the renormalization effects for the root-mean-square point-proton radius, electric quadrupole moment, magnetic dipole moment, Gamow-Teller transition and neutrinoless double-beta decay operator using nucleon-nucleon interactions from chiral …
The deuteron axial current is sensitive both to the form of the implementation of relativistic dynamics as well as to the details of the deuteron D state at moderate momentum transfer, making it a natural partner to the magnetic form factor for exploring details of nucleon-nucleon dynamics and associated electroweak properties.
We study the deuteron electrodisintegration with inclusion of the neutral currents focusing on the helicity asymmetry of the exclusive cross section in coplanar geometry. We stress that a measurement of this asymmetry in the quasi elastic region is of interest for an experimental determination of the weak form factors of the nucleon, allowing one to obtain the parity violating electron neutron asymmetry. Numerically, we consider the reaction at low momentum transfer and discuss the sensitivity of the helicity asymmetry to the strangeness radius and magnetic moment. The problems coming from the…
The quasi-elastic scattering of muon neutrino and electrons on a carbon target are analyzed using the relativistic distorted-wave impulse approximation (RDWIA). We also evaluate the contribution of the two-particle and two-hole meson exchange current ($2p-2h$ MEC) to electroweak response functions. The nuclear model dependence of the (anti)neutrino cross sections is studied within the RDWIA+MEC approach and RDWIA model with the large nucleon axial mass. It is shown that the results for the squared momentum transfer distribution $dσ/dQ^2$ and for invariant mass of the final hadronic system dist…
A covariant, composite scalar diquark, Fadde'ev amplitude model for the nucleon is used to calculate pseudoscalar, isoscalar- and isovector-vector, axial-vector and scalar nucleon form factors. The last yields the nucleon sigma-term and on-shell sigma-nucleon coupling. The calculated form factors are soft, and the couplings are generally in good agreement with experiment and other determinations. Elements in the dressed-quark-axial-vector vertex that are not constrained by the Ward-Takahashi identity contribute ~20% to the magnitude of g_A. The calculation of the nucleon sigma-term elucidates …
We present a relativistic model for computing the neutrino mean free path in neutron matter. Thereby, neutron matter is described as a non-interacting Fermi gas in beta-equilibrium. We present results for the neutrino mean free path for temperatures from 0 up to 50 MeV and a broad range of neutrino energies. We show that relativistic effects cause a considerable enhancement of neutrino-scattering cross-sections in neutron matter. The influence of the $Q^2$-dependence in the electroweak form factors and the inclusion of a weak magnetic term in the hadron current is discussed. The weak-magnetic …
The electroweak form factors of the nucleon as obtained within a three flavor pseudoscalar vector meson soliton model are employed to predict the ratio of the proton and neutron yields from $^{12}C$, which are induced by quasi-elastic neutrino reactions. These predictions are found to vary only moderately in the parameter space allowed by the model. The antineutrino flux of the up-coming experiment determining this ratio was previously overestimated. The corresponding correction is shown to have only a small effect on the predicted ratio. However, it is found that the experimental result for t…
In this series of lectures it is illustrated how one can study the strong dynamics of nuclei by means of the electroweak probe. In particular, the most important steps to derive the cross sections in first order perturbation theory are reviewed. In the derivation the focus is put on the main ingredients entering the hadronic part (response functions), i.e. the initial and final states of the system and the operators relevant for the reaction. Emphasis is put on the electromagnetic interaction with few-nucleon systems. The Lorentz integral transform method to calculate the response functions ab…
Semi-leptonic electroweak interactions in nuclei - such as βdecay, μcapture, charged- and neutral-current neutrino reactions, and electron scattering - are described by a set of multipole operators carrying definite parity and angular momentum, obtained by projection from the underlying nuclear charge and three-current operators. If these nuclear operators are approximated by their one-body forms and expanded in the nucleon velocity through order |\vec{p}|/M, where \vec{p} and M are the nucleon momentum and mass, a set of seven multipole operators is obtained. Nuclear structure calculations ar…
In most simulations of nonrelativistic nuclear systems, the wave functions found solving the many-body Schrödinger equations describe the quantum-mechanical amplitudes of the nucleonic degrees of freedom. In those simulations the pionic contributions are encoded in nuclear potentials and electroweak currents, and they determine the low-momentum behavior. In this work we present an alternative quantum Monte Carlo formalism in which both relativistic pions and nonrelativistic nucleons are explicitly included in the quantum-mechanical states of the system. We report the renormalization of the nuc…
We show how effectively effective quantum field theories work in nuclear physics. Using the physically transparent cut-off regularization, we study the simplest nuclear systems of two nucleons for both bound and scattering states at a momentum scale much less than the pion mass. We consider all the static properties of the deuteron, the two-nucleon scattering phase-shifts, the n + p --> d + γprocess at thermal energy and the solar proton fusion process p + p --> d + e(+) + ν(e), and we demonstrate that these are all described with great accuracy in the expansion to the next-to-leading order. W…
Current and future electron and neutrino scattering experiments will be greatly aided by a better understanding of the role played by short-range correlations in nuclei. Two-body physics, including nucleon-nucleon correlations and two-body electroweak currents, is required to explain the body of experimental data for both static and dynamical nuclear properties. In this work, we focus on examining nucleon-nucleon correlations from a chiral effective field theory perspective and provide a comprehensive set of new variational Monte Carlo calculations of one- and two-body densities and momentum d…
Selected Nd breakup data over a wide energy range are compared to solutions of Faddeev equations based on modern high precision NN interactions alone and adding current three-nucleon force models. Unfortunately currently available data probe phase space regions for the final three nucleon momenta which are rather insensitive to 3NF effects as predicted by current models. Overall there is good to fair agreement between present day theory and experiment but also some cases exist with striking discrepancies. Regions in the phase space are suggested where large 3NF effects can be expected.
The nucleon single-particle energies (SPEs) of the selected nuclei, that is, 16O, 40Ca, and 56Ni, are obtained by using the diagonal matrix elements of two-body effective interaction, which generated through the lowest order constrained variational (LOCV) calculations for the symmetric nuclear matter with the AV18 phenomenological nucleon-nucleon potential. The SPEs at the major levels of nuclei are calculated by employing a Hartree-Fock inspired scheme in the spherical harmonic oscillator basis. In the scheme, the correlation influences are taken into account by imposing the nucleon effective…
We compute the binding energies, radii, and densities for selected medium-mass nuclei within coupled-cluster theory and employ the "bare" chiral nucleon-nucleon interaction at order N3LO. We find rather well-converged results in model spaces consisting of 15 oscillator shells, and the doubly magic nuclei 40Ca, 48Ca, and the exotic 48Ni are underbound by about 1 MeV per nucleon within the CCSD approximation. The binding-energy difference between the mirror nuclei 48Ca and 48Ni is close to theoretical mass table evaluations. Our computation of the one-body density matrices and the corresponding …
A model is developed for the hadronic and electromagnetic interaction in the two-nucleon system above pion threshold in the framework of meson, nucleon and $Δ$ degrees of freedom. It is based on time-ordered perturbation theory and includes full meson retardation in potentials and exchange currents as well as loop contributions to the nucleonic one-body current. Results for some selected processes are discussed.
The role of the sea quarks to ground state nucleon properties with electroweak probes is discussed. A relativistic Green's function approach to parity violating electron scattering and a distorted-wave impulse-approximation applied to charged- and neutral-current neutrino-nucleus quasi-elastic scattering are presented in view of the possible determination of the strangeness content of the nucleon.
Recently, we have shown that the continuity equation for the nuclear vector and axial current operators acquires additional terms if the latter depend on the energy transfer. We analyze in detail the electromagnetic single-nucleon four-current operators and verify the validity of the modified continuity equation for all one- and two-nucleon contributions up to fourth order in the chiral expansion. We also derive, for the first time, the leading contribution to the three-nucleon charge operator which appears at this order. Our study completes the derivation of the electroweak nuclear currents t…
We discuss the use of the low-momentum nucleon-nucleon NN interaction V-low-k in the derivation of the shell-model effective interaction and emphasize its practical value as an alternative to the Brueckner G-matrix method. We present some selected results of our current study of exotic nuclei around closed shells, which have been obtained starting from the CD-Bonn potential. We also show some results of calculations performed with different phase-shift equivalent NN potentials, and discuss the effect of changes in the cutoff momentum which defines the V-low-k potential.
These lectures give an introduction to baryon chiral perturbation theory. I show in detail how to construct the chiral effective pion-nucleon Lagrangian in the one loop approximation. Particular emphasis is put on the physics related to electromagnetic probes, as manifest in pion photo- and electroproduction, Compton scattering off nucleons and the electroweak form factors of the nucleon. Other topics discussed in some detail are the meaning of low-energy theorems, pion-nucleon scattering, the reaction $πN \to ππN$ and isospin violation in the pion-nucleon system. The chiral predictions are co…
We apply improved nucleon-nucleon potentials up to fifth order in chiral effective field theory, along with a new analysis of the theoretical truncation errors, to study nucleon-deuteron (Nd) scattering and selected low-energy observables in 3H, 4He, and 6Li. Calculations beyond second order differ from experiment well outside the range of quantified uncertainties, providing truly unambiguous evidence for missing three-nucleon forces within the employed framework. The sizes of the required three-nucleon force contributions agree well with expectations based on Weinberg's power counting. We ide…
We derive a Feynman-Hellmann theorem relating the second-order nucleon energy shift resulting from the introduction of periodic source terms of electromagnetic and isovector axial currents to the parity-odd nucleon structure function $F_3^N$. It is a crucial ingredient in the theoretical study of the $γW$ and $γZ$ box diagrams that are known to suffer from large hadronic uncertainties. We demonstrate that for a given $Q^2$, one only needs to compute a small number of energy shifts in order to obtain the required inputs for the box diagrams. Future lattice calculations based on this approach ma…
We study the low energy expansion of the nucleon's electroweak form factors in the framework of an effective chiral Lagrangian including pions, nucleons and the $Delta (1232)$. We work to third order in the so-called small scale expansion and compare the results with the ones previously obtained in the chiral expansion. In addition, these calculations serve as a first exploratory study of renormalization and decoupling within the small scale expansion.
The nucleon axial charge is a central ingredient in nuclear and particle physics, and a key observable in precision tests of the electroweak Standard Model sector and beyond. We report on the first complete calculation of its electroweak quantum corrections up to $\mathcal{O}(α)$, using a combination of current algebra techniques and QCD sum rules. We find a substantial enhancement due to the weak magnetism contribution in the elastic channel, and include higher-twist and target mass corrections at low $Q^2$ to find $Δ_R^A = 0.02881(22)$. Using analogous methods, we determine a new value for t…
We present recent lattice QCD results on the electroweak nucleon to $Δ$ transition and $Δ$ form factors using dynamical fermion gauge configurations with a lowest pion mass of about 300 MeV, with special emphasis in the determination of the sub-dominant quadrupole $Nγ^*\rightarrow Δ$ and $Δ$ electromagnetic form factors.
We carry out an ab initio calculation of the neutrino flux-folded inclusive cross sections, measured on $^{12}$C by the MiniBooNE and T2K collaborations in the charged-current quasielastic (CCQE) regime. The calculation is based on realistic two- and three-nucleon interactions, and on a realistic nuclear electroweak current with one-and two-nucleon terms that are constructed consistently with these interactions and reproduce low-energy electroweak transitions. Numerically exact quantum Monte Carlo methods are utilized to compute the nuclear weak response functions, by fully retaining many-body…
Nucleon $\to Δ(1232)$ transition electroweak form factors are discussed in a single pion production model with nonresonant background terms originating from a chiral perturbation theory. Fits to electron-proton scattering $F_2$ as well as neutrino scattering bubble chamber experimental data are performed. Both $ν$-proton and $ν$-neutron channel data are discussed in a unified statistical model. A new parametrization of the $N\toΔ(1232)$ vector form factors is proposed. Fit to neutrino scattering data gives axial mass $M_{AΔ}=0.85{+0.09}{-0.08}\;$(GeV) and $C_5^A(0) = 1.10{+0.15}{-0.14}$ in acc…
The present contribution continues and extends foregoing work on the calculation of electroweak form factors of hadrons using the point-form of relativistic quantum mechanics. Here we are particularly interested in studying pionic effects on the electromagnetic structure of the nucleon. To this aim we employ a hybrid constituent-quark model that comprises, in addition to the $3q$ valence component, also a $3q$+$π$ non-valence component. With a simple wave function for the $3q$ component we get reasonable results for the nucleon form factors. In accordance with other authors we find that the pi…
We discuss the current status of chiral effective field theory in the three-nucleon sector and present selected results for nucleon-deuteron scattering observables based on semilocal momentum-space-regularized chiral two-nucleon potentials together with consistently regularized three-nucleon forces up to third chiral order. Using a Bayesian model for estimating truncation errors, the obtained results are found to provide a good description of the experimental data. We confirm our earlier findings that a high-precision description of nucleon-deuteron scattering data below pion production thresh…
With the goal of developing predictive ab-initio capability for light and medium-mass nuclei, two-nucleon and three-nucleon forces from chiral effective field theory are optimized simultaneously to low-energy nucleon-nucleon scattering data, as well as binding energies and radii of few-nucleon systems and selected isotopes of carbon and oxygen. Coupled-cluster calculations based on this interaction, named NNLO$_{\rm sat}$, yield accurate binding energies and radii of nuclei up to $^{40}$Ca, and are consistent with the empirical saturation point of symmetric nuclear matter. In addition, the low…
We have applied the extended factorization scheme to investigate the electroweak pion production on nuclei. The ANL-Osaka model, which was obtained by analyzing the data of $πN$, $γN$, $N(e,e'π)$ and $N(ν,μ\,π) $ reactions up to invariant mass $W=$ 2 GeV, is used to generate the matrix elements of current operators relevant to pion-production off the nucleon. Medium effects on the $Δ$ (1232) component of meson-exchange current are included by using a $Δ$-nucleus potential determined from the previous $Δ$-hole model studies of pion-nucleus reactions. Nuclear correlations in the initial target s…

We present a fast and efficient method to compute the inclusive two-particle two-hole (2p-2h) electroweak responses in the neutrino and electron quasielastic inclusive cross sections. The method is based on two approximations. The first neglects the motion of the two initial nucleons below the Fermi momentum, which are considered to be at rest. This approximation, which is reasonable for high values of the momentum transfer, turns out also to be quite good for moderate values of the momentum transfer $q\gtrsim k_F$. The second approximation involves using in the "frozen" meson-exchange current…
