In this letter, we propose three different strategies to extract the weak mixing angle phi_s of the Bs system using penguin-mediated decays into vectors, mainly Bs->K*K*, Bs->phi K* and Bs->phi phi. We also provide predictions for the longitudinal branching ratio and CP-asymmetries of Bs->K*K* using a method that combines QCD factorisation with flavour symmetries to relate this decay to its Bd counterpart.
QCD corrections are evaluated to FCNC processes like $B \to X_s ν\barν$, $K \to πν\barν$, $B \to l^+ l^-$ or $K_L \to μ^+ μ^-$, i.e. to processes mediated by effective operators containing neutrino currents or axial leptonic currents. Such operators originate from $W$-box and $Z$-penguin diagrams in the Standard Model. QCD corrections to them are given by two-loop diagrams. We confirm results for those diagrams which are already present in the literature. However, our analytical expressions for the Wilson coefficients disagree, due to a subtlety in regulating spurious IR divergences. The numer…
In light of a discrepancy of the direct $CP$ violation in $K\toππ$ decays, $\varepsilon'/\varepsilon_K$, we investigate gluino contributions to the electroweak penguin, where flavor violations are induced by squark trilinear couplings. Top-Yukawa contributions to $ΔS = 2$ observables are taken into account, and vacuum stability conditions are evaluated in detail. It is found that this scenario can explain the discrepancy of $\varepsilon'/\varepsilon_K$ for the squark mass smaller than 5.6 TeV. We also show that the gluino contributions can amplify $\mathcal{B}(K \to πν\overlineν)$, $\mathcal{B…
The penguin mediated processes $b\rightarrow s g$ and $b\rightarrow s l^+l^-$ are studied. In the Standard Model, for the leptonic modes improvement in experimental limits will put strigient bounds on the top mass, where the present limit from $b\rightarrow s μ^+μ^-$ is 390 GeV. For hadronic penguin processes, although the gluonic penguin dominates, we find the electroweak contribution are around 30\% for the upper range allowed top mass. The branching ratio for $B\rightarrow X_s ϕ$ is predicted to be in the range $(0.6\sim 2)\times 10^{-4}$. Effects of the charged Higgs in two Higgs doublet m…
Isospin structure of gluon mediated or strong penguin is significantly altered when the full electroweak corrections are included. This has the consequence that some previous analyses which relied on a simple isospin structure in charmless $B$ decays become inapplicable. We present the general Hamiltonian in next-to-leading order QCD, and illustrate our conclusion quantitatively for $B\rightarrow ππ$ and $B\rightarrow Kπ$ decays in the factorization approximation. Some remarks on CP asymmetries in $B$ decays are also made.
We evaluate at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) the QCD corrections to the charm contribution from penguin diagrams to the decay K+ --> pi+ nu anti-nu. A NNLO calculation is already available in the literature. We provide an independent check of the results of non-anomalous and anomalous diagrams. We use Renormalization Group improvement and an effective theory framework to resum the large logarithms that appear. In the case of the non-anomalous diagrams, our results for the decoupling coefficients and anomalous dimensions, as well as the final numerical result, are in agreement with those…
The charged-Higgs-mediated contribution to the Wilson coefficient of the $b\to sγ$ magnetic penguin is expected to be one of the more promising candidates for a supersymmetric effect in B physics, probably the only one in gauge-mediated models. We compute the two-loop QCD correction to it. With naive dimensional regularization and MSbar subtraction, for reasonable values of the charged Higgs mass and for mu-bar = m_top, we find a (10--20)% reduction of the corresponding one-loop effect.
We probe the SUSY at the $10 \ {\rm TeV}$ scale in the rare decays and the CP violation of the kaon. We focus on the processes of $K_L \to π^0 ν{\bar ν}$ and $K^+ \to π^+ ν{\bar ν}$ combined with the CP violating parameters $ε_K$ and $ε_K^\prime/ε_K$. The Z-penguin mediated by the chargino loop cannot enhance $K_L \to π^0 ν{\bar ν}$ and $K^+ \to π^+ ν{\bar ν}$ because the left-right mixing of the stop is constrained by the $125$ GeV Higgs mass. On the other hand, the Z-penguin mediated by the gluino loop can enhance the branching ratios of both $K_L \to π^0 ν{\bar ν}$ and $K^+ \to π^+ ν{\bar ν…
Gluon mediated exclusive hadronic decays of b quarks are studied within the standard model (SM) and the constrained minimally supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). For all allowed regions of the MSSM parameter space (A, tan beta, m_0, m_{1/2}) the penguin magnetic dipole form factor F^R_2 is dominant over the electric dipole and can be larger than the magnetic dipole form factor of the SM. However, overall the SM electric dipole decay amplitude F^L_1 dominates the decay rate. The MSSM penguin contributions to the free quark decay rate approach the 10% level for those regions of parameter space…
We study the impact of the inverse seesaw mechanism on several low-energy flavour violating observables such as tau decaying to three muons in the context of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. As a consequence of the inverse seesaw, the contributions of the right-handed sneutrinos significantly enhance the Higgs-mediated penguin diagrams. We find that different flavour violating branching ratios can be enhanced by as much as two orders of magnitude. We also comment on the impact of the Higgs-mediated processes on the leptonic B-meson decays and on the Higgs flavour violating decays.
We analyze the impact of Higgs-mediated amplitudes on the rare decays KL -> pi0 nu nu-bar and K+ -> pi+ nu nu-bar in the MSSM with large tan(beta) and general flavour mixing. We point out that, going beyond the minimal flavour violation hypothesis, Z-penguin amplitudes generated by charged-Higgs exchange can induce sizable modifications of K -> pi nu nu-bar rates. Interestingly, these effects scale as tan^4(beta) at the amplitude level. For large values of tan(beta), this mechanism allows deviations from the SM expectations even for tiny (CKM-type) off-diagonal mixing terms in the right-handed…
Weak radiative baryonic B decays $B\to\B_1\ov \B_2γ$ mediated by the electromagnetic penguin process $b\to sγ$ have appreciable rates larger than their two-body counterparts $B\to\B_1\ov \B_2$. The branching ratios for $B^-\toΛ\bar pγ$ and $B^-\toΞ^0\barΣ^-γ$ are sizable, falling into the range of $(1\sim 6)\times 10^{-6}$ with the value preferred to be on the large side, and not far from the bottom baryon radiative decays $Λ_b\toΛγ$ and $Ξ_b\toΞγ$ due to the large short-distance enhancement for $b\to sγ$ penguin transition and the large strong coupling of the anti-triplet bottom baryons with …
Weak radiative baryonic B decays $\bar B\to B_1\bar B_2γ$ mediated by the electromagnetic penguin process $b\to sγ$ are re-examined within the framework of the pole model. The meson pole contribution that has been neglected before is taken into account in this work. It is found that the intermediate $K^*$ contribution dominates in the $Σ\bar pγ$ mode and is comparable to the baryon pole effect in $Λ\bar pγ$ and $Ξ\barΛγ$ modes. The branching ratios for $B^-\toΛ\bar pγ$ and $B^-\toΞ^0\barΣ^-γ$ are of order $2.6\times 10^{-6}$ and $6\times 10^{-7}$, respectively. The threshold enhancement effect…
The rare decay B -> K* nu anti-nu allows a transparent study of Z penguin and other electroweak penguin effects in New Physics (NP) scenarios in the absence of dipole operator contributions and Higgs (scalar) penguin contributions that are often more important than Z contributions in B -> K* l+l- and B(s) -> l+l- decays. We present a new analysis of B -> K* nu anti-nu with improved form factors and of the decays B -> K nu anti-nu and B -> X(s) nu anti-nu in the SM and in a number of NP scenarios like the general MSSM, general scenarios with modified Z/Z' penguins and in a singlet scalar extens…
We analyze the deviations of the mixing induced CP asymmetry in B-->phi Ks from sin(2beta), as well as the deviations of the asymmetries in Bs-->K*K*, Bs-->phi K* and Bs-->phi phi from sin(2beta_s), that arise in SM due to penguin pollution. We use a theoretical input which is short-distance dominated in QCD-factorization and thus free of IR-divergencies. We also provide alternative ways to extract angles of the unitarity triangle from penguin-mediated decays, and give predictions for Bs-->K*K* observables.
We re-examine direct CP violation in the quasi-two-body $D\to V\!P$ decays and study CP asymmetries in three-body $D$ decays proceeding through intermediate vector resonances within the framework of the topological amplitude approach for tree amplitudes and the QCD factorization approach for penguin amplitudes. Using the same mechanism of incorporating long-distance penguin-exchange amplitude induced from final-state rescattering that nicely accounts for the CP asymmetry difference between $D^0\to K^+K^-$ and $π^+π^-$ modes, we find that CP asymmetry can also occur at the per mille level in ma…
We review the effective Lagrangian of the Higgs penguin in the Standard Model and its minimal supersymmetric extension (MSSM). As a master application of the Higgs penguin, we discuss in some detail the B-meson decays into a lepton-antilepton pair. Furthermore, we explain how this can probe the Higgs sector of the MSSM provided that some of these decays are seen at Tevatron Run II and B-factories. Finally, we present a complete list of observables where the Higgs penguin could be strongly involved.
We perform an isospin analysis of $B$ decays to two pseudoscalars. The analysis extracts appropriate CKM and short distance loop factors to allow for comparison of non-perturbative QCD effects in the reduced matrix elements of the amplitudes. In decays where penguin diagrams compete with tree-level diagrams we find that the reduced matrix elements of the penguin diagrams, which are singlets or doublets under isospin, are significantly enhanced compared with the triplet and fourplet contributions of the weak Hamiltonian. This similarity to the $ΔI =\frac{1}{2}$ rule in $K \to ππ$ decays suggest…
Charged and neutral B decays into the pi+pi-K, K+K-K and K0S K0S K0S systems have been studied. The pi+pi- and K+K- final state interactions in the S-wave isoscalar state are treated in an unitary way. The long-distance contributions called charming penguins are introduced in the model. Effective mass distributions, branching ratios and some asymmetries are succesfully compared with the recent BaBar and Belle data. A particularly large negative direct CP-violating asymmetry in the charged B decays into f0(980)K is evaluated for one set of the charming penguin amplitudes.
We calculate the $10\times 10$ two--loop anomalous dimension matrix to order $\ord(α_e α_s)$ in the dimensional regularization scheme with anticommuting $γ_5$ (NDR) which is necessary for the extension of the $ΔS=1$ weak Hamiltonian involving electroweak penguins beyond the leading logarithmic approximation. We demonstrate, how a direct calculation of penguin diagrams involving $γ_5$ in closed fermion loops can be avoided thus allowing a consistent calculation of two--loop anomalous dimensions in the simplest renormalization scheme with anticommuting $γ_5$ in $D$ dimensions. We give the necess…
The rare decay B to K* (to K pi) mu+ mu- is regarded as one of the crucial channels for B physics since its angular distribution gives access to many observables that offer new important tests of the Standard Model and its extensions. We point out a number of correlations among various observables which will allow a clear distinction between different New Physics (NP) scenarios. Furthermore, we discuss the decay B to K* nu anti-nu which allows for a transparent study of Z penguin effects in NP frameworks in the absence of dipole operator contributions and Higgs penguin contributions. We study …
We use currently available data of nonleptonic charmless 2-body $B\to MM$ decays ($MM = PP, PV, VV$) that are mediated by $b\to (d, s)$ QCD- and QED-penguin operators to study weak annihilation and new-physics effects in the framework of QCD factorization. In particular we introduce one weak annihilation parameter for decays related by ($u \leftrightarrow d$) quark interchange and test this universality assumption. Within the standard model, the data supports this assumption with the only exceptions in the $B\to K π$ system, which exhibits the well-known "$ΔA_{CP}$ puzzle", and some tensions i…
We consider the chargino contribution to the CP violation in B \to ϕK_S decay in the minimal supersymmetric standard model at large \tanβ. It is shown that the Wilson coefficient C_{8g} of the chromomagnetic penguin operator can be significantly enhanced by the chargino-mediated diagrams while satisfying other direct/indirect experimental constraints. The enhanced C_{8g} allows large deviation in the CP asymmetry from the standard model prediction.
In supersymmetric models with nonzero Majorana neutrino mass, the sneutrino and antisneutrino mix, which may lead to same sign dilepton signals in future collider experiments. We point out that the anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking scenario has a good potential to provide an observable rate of such signals for the neutrino masses suggested by the atmospheric and solar neutrino oscillations. The sneutrino mixing rate is naturally enhanced by m_{3/2}/m_{\tildeν}={\cal O}(4π/α) while the sneutrino decay rate is small enough on a sizable portion of the parameter space. We point out also that…
We show that because of the milder GIM suppression, the four-quark dipenguin operator contributes to the short distance piece of the D^0-\bar D^0 mixing amplitude at the same order of magnitude as the box diagram. In addition, we put an upper bound Δm_D^{LDR} \leq 5 \times Δm_D^{box} on a long-distance resonant contribution induced by the penguin mixing.
An overview of exclusive two-body and three-body baryonic B decays is given. The threshold enhancement effect in the dibaryon invariant mass and the angular distributions in the dibaryon rest frame are stressed and explained. Weak radiative baryonic B decays mediated by the electromagnetic penguin process $b\to sγ$ are discussed. Apart from the first observation of the radiative penguin decay $B^-\toΛ\bar pγ$ with the baryonic final state, the decay $B^-\to Ξ^0\barΣ^-γ$ at the level of $6\times 10^{-7}$ may be accessible to B factories in the near future.
Observation of CP violation in $B^o\to K^\pmπ^{\mp}$ decays and its absence in $B^+\to K^+π^o$ decays are explained in new improved data analysis of more precise $B\to Kπ$ data. Success of the "Lipkin Sum Rule" indicates that four $B\tow Kπ$ branching ratios are determined by three parameters, the penguin diagram $P$ and two interference terms $P\cdot T$ and $P\cdot S$ between the dominant penguin and two tree diagrams; the color-favored and color suppressed diagrams. Previous analyzes confirmed the model with errors leaving values of interference terms less that two standard deviations from z…
The status of exclusive two-body and three-body baryonic B decays is reviewed. The threshold peaking effect in baryon pair invariant mass is stressed and explained. Weak radiative baryonic B decays mediated by the electromagnetic penguin process are discussed.
We calculate the two-loop $10 \times 10$ anomalous dimension matrix ${\cal O}(α_s^{2})$ involving current-current operators, QCD penguin operators, and electroweak penguin operators especially relevant for $ΔS=1$ weak non-leptonic decays, but also important for $ΔB=1$ decays. The calculation is performed in two schemes for $γ_{5}$: the dimensional regularization scheme with anticommuting $γ_{5}$ (NDR), and in the 't Hooft-Veltman scheme. We demonstrate how a direct calculation of diagrams involving $γ_{5}$ in closed fermion loops can be avoided thus allowing a consistent calculation in the NDR…
We analyse B_{d,s} -> K(*)0 K(*)0 modes within the SM, relating them in a controlled way through SU(3)-flavour symmetry and QCD-improved factorisation. We propose a set of sum rules for such penguin-mediated decays to constrain some CKM angles. We determine B_s -> KK branching ratios and CP-asymmetries as functions of A_{dir}(B_d -> K0 \bar{K}0). Applying the same techniques to B_{d,s}-> K*0 \bar{K}*0, we outline strategies to determine the B_s mixing angle.
The interplay of strong and weak decay amplitudes for B -> pion-pion-kaon and B -> kaon-antikaon-kaon, with the pion-pion and kaon-antikaon pairs interacting in isospin-0 S-wave, is analyzed for pion-pion effective mass from threshold to 1.2 GeV. To improve agreement with experiment of a factorization approach with some QCD corrections, addition of long-distance contributions, called charming penguins is necessary.
Sneutrino-antisneutrino mixing occurs in a supersymmetric model where neutrinos have nonzero Majorana masses. This can lead to the sneutrino decaying into a final state with a "wrong-sign charged lepton". Hence, in an $e^- γ$ collider, the signal of the associated production of an electron-sneutrino and the lighter chargino and their subsequent decays can be $e^- γ\to e^+ {\tilde τ}_1^- {\tilde τ}_1^- + \mpT$ where the ${\tilde τ}_1$s are long-lived and can produce heavily ionizing charged tracks. This signal is free of any Standard Model background and the supersymmetric backgrounds are small…
B decays into pion pion K and K anti-K K, where the pion-pion and anti-K K pairs interact in isospin zero S-wave, are studied in the pion-pion effective mass range from threshold to 1.2 GeV. The interplay of strong and weak decay amplitudes is analyzed using an unitary pion-pion and K anti-K coupled channel model. Final state interactions are described in terms of four scalar form factors constrained by unitarity and chiral perturbation theory. Branching ratios for the B decay into f0(980)K, calculated in the factorization approximation with some QCD corrections, are too low as compared to rec…
We compute the O(α_s^2) contributions to the photon energy spectrum of the inclusive decay \bar{B} -> X_s γassociated with the magnetic penguin operator O_7. They are an essential part of the ongoing NNLO calculation of this important decay. We use two different methods to evaluate the master integrals, one based on the differential equation approach and the other on sector decomposition, leading to identical results which in turn agree with those of a recent independent calculation by Melnikov and Mitov. We study the numerical relevance of this set of NNLO contributions in the photon energy s…
We consider the Minimal Gauge Mediated Model (MGMM) with either fundamental or antisymmetric messenger multiplets and study consequences of messenger-matter mixing. It is shown that constraints on relevant coupling constants and mixing parameters coming from the existing experimental limits on lepton flavor violation and FCNC processes allow a wide range of $\tanβ$ in MGMM with mixing.
Two-body charmless hadronic B decays involving a tensor meson in the final state are studied within the framework of QCD factorization (QCDF). Due to the G-parity of the tensor meson, both the chiral-even and chiral-odd two-parton light-cone distribution amplitudes of the tensor meson are antisymmetric under the interchange of momentum fractions of the quark and anti-quark in the SU(3) limit. Our main results are: (i) In the naive factorization approach, the decays such as $B^-\to \bar K_2^{*0}π^-$ and $\bar B^0\to K_2^{*-}π^+$ with a tensor meson emitted are prohibited owing to the fact that …
We discuss dark matter decay mediated by exotically charged particles ("exotics") in a supersymmetric model with two dark matter (DM) components: One is the (bino-like) lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) χ, and the other is a newly introduced meta-stable neutral singlet $N$. $N$ decays to χe^+e^- via a dimension 6 operator induced by a penguin-type one loop diagram with the life time of 10^{26} sec., explaining energetic cosmic e^\pm excess observed recently by PAMELA and ATIC/PPB-BETS. The superheavy masses of exotics (\sim 10^{15-16} GeV) are responsible for the longevity of $N$. The sup…
Three different strategies to extract the weak mixing phase phi_s of the Bs system using B--> VV decays (Bs--> K* anti-K*, Bs--> phi anti-K* and Bs--> phi phi) are discussed. Those penguin-mediated decays are computed in the framework of a new combined QCD-Factorisation/Flavour Symmetry Method. Also some comments on the recent interesting results found by Babar concerning the decay B--> K* l+l- are included.
We investigate the effect of an extra fourth quark generation and FCNC mediated $Z$ and $Z'$ bosons on the rare decay mode $B^- \to ϕπ^-$. In the standard model, this mode receives only $b \to d$ penguin contributions and therefore, highly suppressed with branching ratio $\sim 5 \times 10^{-9}$. This in turn makes this mode a very sensitive probe for new physics. We find that due to the above mentioned new physics contributions there is a significant enhancement in its branching ratio. Furthermore, the direct CP violation parameter which is identically zero in the SM is found to be quite signi…
We have studied the contribution of the high-scale SUSY to the K_L to pi^0 nu{bar nu} and K^+ to pi^+ nu{bar nu} processes correlating with the CP violating parameter epsilon_K. Taking account of the recent LHC results for the Higgs discovery and the SUSY searches, we consider the high-scale SUSY at the 10-50 TeV scale in the framework of the non-minimal squark (slepton) flavor mixing. The Z penguin mediated the chargino dominates the SUSY contribution for these decays. At the 10 TeV scale of the SUSY, the chargino contribution can enhance the branching ratio of K_L to pi^0 nu{bar nu} in eight…
We present the studies of the decays $B\to a_1(1260) π$ and $a_1(1260) K$ within the framework of QCD factorization. Due to the G-parity, unlike the vector meson, the chiral-odd two-parton light-cone distribution amplitudes of the $a_1$ are antisymmetric under the exchange of quark and anti-quark momentum fractions in the SU(2) limit. The branching ratios for $a_1 π$ modes are sensitive to tree--penguin interference. The resultant ${\cal B}(B^0 \to a_1^\pm π^\mp)$ are in good agreement with the data. However, using the current Cabibbo--Kobayashi--Maskawa angles, $β=22.0^\circ$ and $γ=59.0^\cir…
We discuss a simple approach to measure the weak mixing angles phi_s and phi_d of the Bs and Bd systems in the presence of New Physics. We present a new expression that allows one to measure directly the New Physics mixing angles if New Physics contributes significantly to the mixing only. We apply the method to specific penguin-mediated B->PP, B->PV and B ->VV modes. We provide a very stringent and simple bound on the direct CP asymmetries of all these modes, the violation of which is a signal of New Physics in decay. Within the same theoretical framework, an updated prediction for the branch…
