We analyze the properties of the quasiparticle excitations of metallic antiferromagnetic states in a strongly correlated electron system. The study is based on dynamical mean field theory (DMFT) for the infinite dimensional Hubbard model with antiferromagnetic symmetry breaking. Self-consistent solutions of the DMFT equations are calculated using the numerical renormalization group (NRG). The low energy behavior in these results is then analyzed in terms of renormalized quasiparticles. The parameters for these quasiparticles are calculated directly from the NRG derived self-energy, and also from the low energy fixed point of the effective impurity. They are found to be in good agreement. We show that the main low energy features of the $\bf k$-resolved spectral density can be understood in terms of the quasiparticle picture. We also find that Luttinger's theorem is satisfied for the total electron number in the doped antiferromagnetic state.
We present a quantum critical behavior of the renormalized single-particle Wannier function, calculated in the Gutzwiller correlated state near the insulator-metal transition (IMT) for cubic lattices. The wave function size and its maximum, as well as the system energy scale with increasing lattice parameter $R$ as $R^{n}$. Such scaling is interpreted as the evidence of a dominant role of the Coulomb repulsion. Relation of the insulator-metal transition lattice-parameter value $R=R_{C}$ to the original {\em Mott criterion\} is obtained. The method is tested by comparing our results with the ex…
Theory of the spectrum of localized two-level quasi-particle renormalized due to interaction with polarization phonons at cryogenic temperature is developed using the generalized method of Feynman-Pines diagram technique. Using the procedure of partial summing of infinite ranges of the main diagrams, mass operator is obtained as a compact branched chain fraction, which effectively takes into account multi-phonon processes. It is shown that multi-phonon processes and interlevel interaction of quasiparticle and phonons cardinally change the renormalized spectrum of the system depending on the di…
We calculate the renormalized parameters for the quasiparticles and their interactions for the Hubbard model in the paramagnetic phase as deduced from the low energy Fermi liquid fixed point using the results of a numerical renormalization group calculation (NRG) and dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT). Even in the low density limit there is significant renormalization of the local quasiparticle interaction $\tilde U$, in agreement with estimates based on the two-particle scattering theory of Kanamori (1963). On the approach to the Mott transition we find a finite ratio for $\tilde U/\tilde D$,…
We present a model example of a quantum critical behavior of renormalized single-particle Wannier function composed of Slater s-orbitals and represented in an adjustable Gaussian STO-7G basis, which is calculated for cubic lattices in the Gutzwiller correlated state near the metal-insulator transition (MIT). The discussion is carried out within the extended Hubbard model and the method of approach proposed earlier [cf. Eur. Phys. J. B {\bf 66}, 385 (2008)]. The component atomic-wave-function size, the Wannier function maximum, as well as the system energy, all scale with the increasing lattice…
The theory of renormalized energy spectrum of localized quasi-particle interacting with polarization phonons at finite temperature is developed within the Feynman-Pines diagram technique. The created computer program effectively takes into account multi-phonon processes, exactly defining all diagrams of mass operator together with their analytical expressions in arbitrary order over the coupling constant. Now it is possible to separate the pole and non-pole mass operator terms and perform a partial summing of their main terms. The renormalized spectrum of the system is obtained within the solu…
We extend the renormalized quasiparticle description of the symmetric Anderson model in a magnetic field $H$, developed in earlier work, to the non-symmetric model. The renormalized parameters are deduced from the low energy NRG fixed point for arbitrary field values. We find quasiparticle resonance widths, $\tildeΔ_σ(H)$, which depend in general on the spin $σ$ as well as $H$. The low temperature static properties can be expressed completely in terms of these parameters, which can also be used as inputs for a renormalized perturbation theory. We show that taking into account repeated quasipar…
We refer to our recent calculations (Eur. Phys. J. B, \textbf{86}, 252 (2013)) of metallization pressure of the three-dimensional simple-cubic crystal of atomic hydrogen and study the effect on the crucial results concocting from approximating the $1s$ Slater-type orbital function with a series of $p$ Gaussians. As a result, we find the critical metallization pressure $p_C = 102\ GPa$. The latter part is a discussion of the influence of zero-point motion on the stabilizing pressure. We show that in our model the estimate magnitude of zero-point motion carries a little effect on the critical me…
We extend our previous approach (Eur. Phys. J. B, \textbf{74}, 63(2010)) to modeling correlated electronic states and the metal-insulator transition by applying the so-called \emph{statistically consistent Gutzwiller approximation} (SGA) to carry out self-consistent calculations of the renormalized single-particle Wannier functions in the correlated state. The transition to the Mott-Hubbard insulating state at temperature T=0 is of weak first order even if antiferromagnetism is disregarded. The magnitude of the introduced self-consistent magnetic correlation field is calculated and shown to le…
We analyze the competition between antiferromagnetism and superconductivity in the two-dimensional Hubbard model by combining a functional renormalization group flow with a mean-field theory for spontaneous symmetry breaking. Effective interactions are computed by integrating out states above a scale Lambda_{MF} in one-loop approximation, which captures in particular the generation of an attraction in the d-wave Cooper channel from fluctuations in the particle-hole channel. These effective interactions are then used as an input for a mean-field treatment of the remaining low-energy states, wit…
We present dynamical mean field theory (DMFT) results for the local spectral densities of the one- and two-particle response functions for the infinite dimensional Hubbard model in a magnetic field. We look at the different regimes corresponding to half-filling, near half-filling and well away from half-filling, for intermediate and strong values of the local interaction $U$. The low energy results are analyzed in terms of quasiparticles with field dependent parameters. The renormalized parameters are determined by two different methods, both based on numerical renormalization group (NRG) calc…
The method used earlier for analysis of correlated nanoscopic systems is extended to infinite (periodic) s-band like systems described by the Hubbard model and its extensions. The optimized single-particle wave functions contained in the parameters of the Hubbard model (the hopping \textit{t} and the magnitude of the intraatomic interaction \textit{U}) are determined explicitly in the correlated state for the electronic systems of various symmetries and dimensions: Hubbard chain, square and triangular planar lattices, and the three cubic lattices (SC, BCC, FCC). In effect, the evolution of the…
Divergencies appearing in perturbation expansions of interacting many-body systems can often be removed by expanding around a suitably chosen renormalized (instead of the non-interacting) Hamiltonian. We describe such a renormalized perturbation expansion for interacting Fermi systems, which treats Fermi surface shifts and superconductivity with an arbitrary gap function via additive counterterms. The expansion is formulated explicitly for the Hubbard model to second order in the interaction. Numerical soutions of the self-consistency condition determining the Fermi surface and the gap functio…
The spectra of the t-U and t-t'-U Hubbard models are investigated in the one-loop approximation for different values of the electron filling. It is shown that the four-band structure which is inherent in the case of half-filling and low temperatures persists also for some excess or deficiency of electrons. Besides, with some departure from half-filling an additional narrow band of quasiparticle states arises near the Fermi level. The dispersion of the band, its bandwidth and the variation with filling are close to those of the spin-polaron band of the t-J model. For moderate doping spectral in…
Non-centrosymmetric superconductors have recently attracted much attention, since the lack of inversion symmetry mixes spin singlet and triplet pairing states, which may allow the realization of topological superconductivity. In this work, we study the electronic properties of the family of inversion-broken CeTX$_3$ heavy-fermion superconductors, finding topological nodal lines as well as Dirac and Weyl points, which are renormalized closer to the Fermi energy by correlations. We find that the Weyl nodal lines have a substantial effect on the Fermi surface spin structure of the normal state, a…
We present a cluster dynamical mean-field treatment of the Hubbard model on a square lattice to study the evolution of magnetism and quasiparticle properties as the electron filling and interaction strength are varied. Our approach for solving the dynamical mean-field equations is an extension of Potthoff's "two-site" method [Phys. Rev. B. 64, 165114 (2001)] where the self-consistent bath is represented by a highly restricted set of states. As well as the expected antiferromagnetism close to half filling, we observe distortions of the Fermi surface. The proximity of a van Hove point and the in…
We show that the low energy behaviour of quite diverse impurity systems can be described by a single renormalized Anderson model, with three parameters, an effective level $\tildeε_d$, an effective hybridization $\tilde V$, and a quasiparticle interaction $\tilde U$. The renormalized parameters are calculated as a function of the bare parameters for a number of impurity models, including those with coupling to phonons and a Falikov-Kimball interaction term. In the model with a coupling to phonons we determine where the interaction of the quasiparticles changes sign as a function of the electro…
In earlier work we showed how the low energy behavior of the symmetric Anderson model in a magnetic field $H$ could be described in terms of field dependent renormalized quasiparticles. Here we extend the approach to the non-symmetric Anderson impurity model and to the infinite dimensional Hubbard model within the DMFT approach. We present NRG results for the local spectral densities and the local longitudinal and transverse dynamic spin susceptibilities for the different parameter regimes and a sequence of values of the magnetic field. We calculate the renormalized parameters for the quasipar…
A realization of heavy fermion state is investigated on the basis of two-band Hubbard model. By means of the slave-boson mean-field approximation, it is shown that for the intermediate electron density, n_e=1.5, the inter-band Coulomb repulsion U strongly emphasizes initially small difference between bands, and easily stabilizes integral valence in the lower band. As a result, a strong renormalization takes place in the lower band and the mixing strength between two bands. It gives rise to a sharp peak at the Fermi level in the quasiparticle density of states, as that obtained in the periodic …
We generalize the rotationally-invariant formulation of the slave-boson formalism to multiorbital models, with arbitrary interactions, crystal fields, and multiplet structure. This allows for the study of multiplet effects on the nature of low-energy quasiparticles. Non-diagonal components of the matrix of quasiparticle weights can be calculated within this framework. When combined with cluster extensions of dynamical mean-field theory, this method allows us to address the effects of spatial correlations, such as the generation of the superexchange and the momentum dependence of the quasiparti…
We use the Kotliar-Ruckenstein slave-boson formalism to study the temperature dependence of paramagnetic phases of the one-band Hubbard model for a variety of band structures. We calculate the Fermi liquid quasiparticle spectral weight $Z$ and identify the temperature at which it decreases significantly to a crossover to a bad metal region. Near the Mott metal-insulator transition, this coherence temperature $T_\textrm{coh}$ is much lower than the Fermi temperature of the uncorrelated Fermi gas, as is observed in a broad range of strongly correlated electron materials. After a proper rescaling…
We calculate the zero-temperature gap and quasiparticle weight of the half-filled Hubbard model with a random dispersion relation. After extrapolation to the thermodynamic limit, we obtain reliable bounds on these quantities for the Hubbard model in infinite dimensions. Our data indicate that the Mott-Hubbard transition is continuous, i.e., that the quasiparticle weight becomes zero at the same critical interaction strength at which the gap opens.
We study the Hubbard model on the AB-stacked bilayer honeycomb lattice with a repulsive onsite interaction U in second order perturbation theory and in self-consistent random phase approximation. We determine the changes in the antiferromagnetic magnetic ordering tendencies due to the real and imaginary parts of the selfenergy at the band crossing points. In particular we present an estimate for the threshold value U* below which the magnetic order is endangered by the splitting of the quadratic band touching points into four Dirac points by an interaction-induced interlayer skew hopping. For …
The problem of weakly correlated electrons on a square lattice is studied theoretically. A simple renormalization group scheme for the angle-resolved weight Z of the quasiparticles at the Fermi surface is presented and applied to the Hubbard model. Upon reduction of the cutoff the Fermi surface is progressively destroyed from the van Hove points toward the zone diagonals. Due to the renormalized Z, divergences of both antiferromagnetic and superconducting correlation functions are suppressed at the critical scale, where the interactions diverge.
By making use of the self-consistent projection operator method with high-momentum and high-energy resolutions, we find a kink structure in the quasiparticle excitation spectrum of the two-dimensional Hubbard model in the underdoped regime. The kink is caused by a mixing between the quasiparticle state and excitations with short-range antiferromagnetic order. We suggest that this might be the origin of the strong concentration dependence of the 'kink' found in La_{2-x}Sr_{x}CuO_{4} (x=0.03-0.07).
We investigate the quasiparticle dynamics in the two-orbital Hubbard model on the square lattice at quarter filling by means of the cellular dynamical mean field theory. We show that the Fermi-liquid state is stabilized up to the large Hubbard interactions in the symmetric case without the Hund's coupling, and find the heavy quasiparticles around the metal-insulator boundary. It is elucidated that the Hund's coupling enhances the antiferro-orbital correlations, which give rise to the pseudo gap behavior in the single-particle excitations. We also find the nonmonotonic temperature dependence in…
The zero temperature transition from a paramagnetic metal to a paramagnetic insulator is investigated in the Dynamical Mean Field Theory for the Hubbard model. The self-energy of the effective impurity Anderson model (on which the Hubbard model is mapped) is calculated using Wilson's Numerical Renormalization Group method. Results for quasiparticle weight, spectral function and self-energy are discussed for Bethe and hypercubic lattice. In both cases, the metal-insulator transition is found to occur via the vanishing of a quasiparticle resonance which appears to be isolated from the Hubbard ba…
We present determinant quantum Monte Carlo simulations of the hole-doped single-band Hubbard-Holstein model on a square lattice, to investigate how quasiparticles emerge when doping a Mott insulator (MI) or a Peierls insulator (PI). The MI regime at large Hubbard interaction $U$ and small relative electron-phonon coupling strength $λ$ is quickly suppressed upon doping, by drawing spectral weight from the upper Hubbard band and shifting the lower Hubbard band towards the Fermi level, leading to a metallic state with emergent quasiparticles at the Fermi level. On the other hand, the PI regime at…
Cluster dynamical mean field methods are used to calculate the normal and anomalous components of the electron self energy of the two dimensional Hubbard model. From these the evolution of the superconducting gap and the momentum dependent photoemission and inverse photoemission spectra across the phase diagram are determined. In the pseudogap regime, decreasing the temperature into the superconducting state leads to a decrease in the energy gap and the formation of a `peak-dip-hump' structure in the electronic density of states. The peak feature disperses very weakly. The calculated spectral …
We analyze the interaction-induced renormalization of single-particle excitations in the two-dimensional Hubbard model at weak coupling using the Wick-ordered version of the functional renormalization group. The self energy is computed for real frequencies by integrating a flow equation with renormalized two-particle interactions. In the vicinity of hot spots, that is points where the Fermi surface intersects the umklapp surface, self energy effects beyond the usual quasi-particle renormalizations and damping occur near instabilities of the normal, metallic phase. Strongly enhanced renormalize…
Dynamic Hubbard models have been proposed as extensions of the conventional Hubbard model to describe the orbital relaxation that occurs upon double occupancy of an atomic orbital. These models give rise to pairing of holes and superconductivity in certain parameter ranges. Here we explore the changes in carrier effective mass and quasiparticle weight and in one- and two-particle spectral functions that occur in a dynamic Hubbard model upon pairing, by exact diagonalization of small systems. It is found that pairing is associated with lowering of effective mass and increase of quasiparticle we…
In spin-1/2 one-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnets and anisotropic triangular Heisenberg antiferromagnets, high-energy states carrying considerable spectral weights have been observed in a magnetic field using inelastic neutron scattering. Such high-energy properties cannot be explained in terms of either Nambu-Goldstone bosons due to spontaneous breaking of continuous symmetries or quasiparticles in a Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid. Here, we show that the mechanism causing the high-energy states is analogous to that of the upper Hubbard band in the one-dimensional Hubbard model, by theoretica…
The attractive Hubbard model on a 2-D square lattice is studied at low electronic densities using the ladder approximation for the pair susceptibility. This model includes (i) the short coherence lengths known to exist experimentally in the cuprate superconductors, and (ii) two-particle bound states that correspond to electron pairs. We study the quasiparticle lifetimes in both non self-consistent and self-consistent theories, the latter including interactions between the pairs. We find that if we include the interactions between pairs the quasiparticle lifetimes vary approximately linearly wi…
A repulsive Coulomb interaction between electrons in different orbitals in correlated materials can give rise to bound quasiparticle states. We study the non-hybridized two-orbital Hubbard model with intra (inter)-orbital interaction $U$ ($U_{12}$) and different band widths using an improved dynamical mean field theory numerical technique which leads to reliable spectra on the real energy axis directly at zero temperature. We find that a finite density of states at the Fermi energy in one band is correlated with the emergence of well defined quasiparticle states at excited energies $Δ=U-U_{12}…
Self-consistent solutions of Hedin's diagrammatic theory equations (HE) for the two-site Hubbard Model (HM) have been studied. They have been found for three-point vertices of increasing complexity ($Γ=1$ (GW approximation), $Γ_{1}$ from the first order perturbation theory, and exact vertex $Γ_{E}$). The comparison is being made when an additional quasiparticle (QP) approximation for the Green function is applied during the self-consistent iterative solving of HE and when QP approximation is not applied. The results obtained with the exact vertex are directly related to the presently open ques…
The self-consistent theory of the correlation effects in Highly Correlated Systems(HCS) is presented. The novel Irreducible Green's Functions(IGF) method is discused in detail for the Hubbard model and random Hubbard model. The interpolative solution for the quasiparticle spectrum, which is valid for both the atomic and band limit is obtained. The (IGF) method permits to calculate the quasiparticle spectra of many-particle systems with the complicated spectra and strong interaction in a very natural and compact way. The inelastic scattering corrections leads to the damping of the quasiparticle…
The ionic Hubbard model on a cubic lattice is investigated using analytical approximations and Wilson's renormalization group for the charge excitation spectrum. Near the Mott insulating regime, where the Hubbard repulsion starts to dominate all energies, the formation of correlated bands is described. The corresponding partial spectral weights and local densities of states show characteristic features, which compare well with a hybridized-band picture appropriate for the regime at small $U$, which at half-filling is known as a band insulator. In particular, a narrow charge gap is obtained at …
We propose a new way of analyzing the Hubbard model using equations of motion (EOM) for the higher-order Green's functions approach within the DMFT scheme. In calculating the higher order Green function we will differentiate over both Times (t) and (t'). This allows us to obtain the metallic Fermi liquid at nonzero Coulomb interaction, where the three center density of states (DOS) structure with two Hubbard bands and the quasiparticle resonance peak is obtained. At small Coulomb interactions and zero temperature the height of the quasiparticle resonance peak on the Fermi energy is constant si…
We study the interactions between the coherent quasiparticles and the incoherent Mott-Hubbard excitations and their effects on the low energy properties in the $U=\infty$ Hubbard model. Within the framework of a systematic large-N expansion, these effects first occur in the next to leading order in 1/N. We calculate the scattering phase shift and the free energy, and determine the quasiparticle weight Z, mass renormalization, and the compressibility. It is found that the compressibility is strongly renormalized and diverges at a critical doping $δ_c=0.07\pm0.01$. We discuss the nature of this …
We present aspects of strong electron correlation in a model of a BI/M/BI heterostructure where BI is a band insulator and M can be tuned from a metal to a Mott insulator by varying the on-site repulsion. An effective one-dimensional Schroedinger equation for the low-energy part is derived in the framework of the Kotliar-Ruckenstein slave-boson mean-field theory and solved self-consistently for a wide range of the on-site interaction strength and of the width of the sandwiched material M. In the strongly interacting limit coherent quasiparticles responsible for metallic behavior are confined t…
The magnetic behavior of thin ferromagnetic itinerant-electron films is investigated within the strongly correlated single-band Hubbard model. For its approximate solution we apply a generalization of the modified alloy analogy (MAA) to deal with the modifications due to the reduced translational symmetry. The theory is based on exact results in the limit of strong Coulomb interaction which are important for a reliable description of ferromagnetism. Within the MAA the actual type of the alloy analogy is determined selfconsistently. The MAA allows, in particular, the investigation of quasiparti…
We study the electronic state of the doped Mott-Hubbard insulator within Dynamical Mean Field Theory. The evolution of the finite temperature spectral functions as a function of doping show large redistributions of spectral weight in both antiferromagnetic and paramagnetic phases. In particular, a metallic antiferromagnetic state is obtained with a low frequency Slater-splitted quasiparticle peak coexisting with Hubbard bands. In the high temperature paramagnetic metallic phase, upon reducing doping, the system has a crossover through a ``bad metal'' state characterized by an anomalous shift o…
We show that the Mott insulating state of the half-filled paramagnetic Hubbard model in infinite dimensions contains electronic quasiparticles with very small quasiparticle weight at the inner edge of the Hubbard bands. We use a stochastic and non-perturbative quantum impurity solver based on calculating the impurity self energy as a sample average over a representative distribution of impurity models solved by exact diagonalization. Due to the natural parallelization of the method, millions of poles are readily generated for the self energy which allows to work with very small pole-broadening…
The strong interaction between electrons reveals the duality of the itinerancy and the localization of quasiparticles. The physical phenomena corresponding to each component of the duality could be realized and coexist within the category of the uncertainty principle of the carrier dynamics, which can be a strong reason of the complexity appearing in the strongly correlated system. A possible mechanism for the high-temperature superconductivity is proposed on the basis of the interplay between the renormalized expectation quantities of both parts.
In this paper, we have systematically studied the single hole problem in two-leg Hubbard and $t$-$J$ ladders by large-scale density-matrix renormalization group calculations. We found that the doped hole in both models behaves similarly with each other while the three-site correlated hopping term is not important in determining the ground state properties. For more insights, we have also calculated the elementary excitations, i.e., the energy gaps to the excited states of the system. In the strong rung limit, we found that the doped hole behaves as a Bloch quasiparticle in both systems where t…
We investigate the Mott transition in the anisotropic kagomé lattice Hubbard model using the cellular dynamical mean field theory combined with continuous-time quantum Monte Carlo simulations. By calculating the double occupancy and the density of states, we determine the interaction strength of the first-order Mott transition and show that it becomes small as the anisotropy increases. We also calculate the spin correlation functions and the single-particle spectrum, and reveal that the quasiparticle and magnetic properties change dramatically around the Mott transition; the spin correlations …
We investigate the possibility and stability of bandferromagnetism in the single-band Hubbard model. This model poses a highly non-trivial many-body problem the general solution of which has not been found up to now. Approximations are still unavoidable. Starting from a simple two-pole ansatz for the spectral density our approach is systematically improved by focusing on the influence of quasiparticle damping and the correct weak-and strong coupling behaviour. The compatibility of the different aproximative steps with decisive moment sum rules is analysed and the importance of a spin-dependent…
Self-energy corrections due to fermion-magnon interaction are studied in the antiferromagnetic state of the $t-t'-t''$ Hubbard model within the rainbow (noncrossing) approximation in the full $U$ range from weak to strong coupling. The role of classical (mean-field) features of fermion and magnon dispersion, associated with finite $U,t',t''$, are examined on quantum corrections to quasiparticle energy, weight, one-particle density of states etc. A finite-$U$ induced classical dispersion term, absent in the $t-J$ model, is found to play an important role in suppressing the quasiparticle weight …
We use the dynamical vertex approximation (D$Γ$A) with a Moriyaesque $% λ$ correction for studying the impact of antiferromagnetic fluctuations on the spectral function of the Hubbard model in two and three dimensions. Our results show the suppression of the quasiparticle weight in three dimensions and dramatically stronger impact of spin fluctuations in two dimensions where the pseudogap is formed at low enough temperatures. Even in the presence of the Hubbard subbands, the origin of the pseudogap at weak-to-intermediate coupling is in the splitting of the quasiparticle peak. At stronger coup…
A self-consistent spectral density approach (SDA) is applied to the Hubbard model to investigate the possibility of spontaneous ferro- and antiferromagnetism. Starting point is a two-pole ansatz for the single-electron spectral density, the free parameter of which can be interpreted as energies and spectral weights of respective quasiparticle excitations. They are determined by fitting exactly calculated spectral moments. The resulting self-energy consists of a local and a non-local part. The higher correlation functions entering the spin-dependent local part can be expressed as functionals of…
We present a method for solving impurity models with electron-phonon coupling, which treats the phonons efficiently and without approximations. The algorithm is applied to the Holstein-Hubbard model in the dynamical mean field approximation, where it allows access to strong interactions, very low temperatures and arbitrary fillings. We show that a renormalized Migdal-Eliashberg theory provides a reasonlable description of the phonon contribution to the electronic self energy in strongly doped systems, but fails if the quasiparticle energy becomes of order of the phonon frequency.
We show that a strongly renormalized band of polaronic quasiparticle excitations is induced at the Fermi level of an interacting many-electron system on increasing the coupling of the electrons to local phonons. We give results for the local density of states at zero temperature both for the electrons and phonons. The polaronic quasiparticles satisfy Luttinger's theorem for all regimes considered, and their dispersion shows a kink similar to that observed experimentally in copper oxides. We calculate the quasiparticle weight factor $z$ and deduce the local effective inter-quasiparticle interac…
Based on the Cluster Perturbation solution of the Hubbard hamiltonian for a 2-D honeycomb lattice we present quasiparticle band structures of nanoribbons at half filling as a function of the on-site electron-electron repulsion. We show that at moderate values of e-e interaction ribbons with armachair shaped edges exhibit an unexpected semimetallic behavior, recovering the original insulating character only at larger values of $U$.
We study the occurrence of SO(5) symmetry in the low-energy sector of two-chain Hubbard-like systems by analyzing the flow of the running couplings ($g$-ology) under renormalization group in the weak-interaction limit. It is shown that SO(5) is asymptotically restored for low energies for rather general parameters of the bare Hamiltonian. This holds also with inclusion of a next-nearest-neighbor hopping which explicitly breaks particle-hole symmetry provided one accounts for a different single-particle weight for the quasiparticles of the two bands of the system. The physical significance of t…
The two-dimensional Hubbard model on the square lattice is studied in the presence of lattice distortions in the adiabatic approximation. The self energy is computed within perturbation theory up to second order, which provides a way for studying the quasiparticle dispersion. We compute numerically the second order contribution to the self-energy using a standard Fast Fourier Transform Algorithm for finite system sizes. The stability of the lattice distortions is investigated and a schematic phase diagram is drawn. The Fermi surface is analyzed for densities near to half filling, the presence …
