We propose a new scheme and protocol for quantum teleportation of a single-mode field state, based on entanglement produced by quantum non-demolition interaction. We show that the recently attained results in QND technique allow to perform the teleportation in quantum regime. We also show that applying QND coupling to squeezed fields will significantly improve the quality of teleportation for a given degree of squeezing.
We propose the scheme implementing partial deterministic non-demolition Bell measurement. When it is used in quantum teleportation the information about an unknown input state is optimally distributed among three outgoing qubits. The optimality means that the output fidelities saturate the asymmetric cloning inequality. The flow of information among the qubits is controlled by the preparation of a pair of ancillary qubits used in the Bell measurement. It is also demonstrated that the measurement is optimal two-qubit operation in the sense of the trade-off between the state disturbance and the …
This paper discusses methods for the optical teleportation of continuous variable polarisation states. We show that using two pairs of entangled beams, generated using four squeezed beams, perfect teleportation of optical polarisation states can be performed. Restricting ourselves to 3 squeezed beams, we demonstrate that polarisation state teleportation can still exceed the classical limit. The 3-squeezer schemes involve either the use of quantum non-demolition measurement or biased entanglement generated from a single squeezed beam. We analyse the efficacies of these schemes in terms of fidel…
Although nondemolition, reliable, and instantaneous quantum measurements of some nonlocal variables are impossible, demolition reliable instantaneous measurements are possible for all variables. It is shown that this is correct also in the framework of the time-symmetric quantum formalism, i.e. nonlocal variables of composite quantum systems with quantum states evolving both forward and backward in time are measurable in a demolition way. The result follows from the possibility to reverse with certainty the time direction of a backward evolving quantum state. Demolition measurements of nonloca…
We exploit geometric properties of quantum states of light in optical cavities to carry out quantum non-demolition measurements. We generalize the 'mode invisibility' method to obtain information about the Wigner function of a squeezed coherent state in a non-destructive way. We also simplify the application of this non-demolition technique to measure single-photon and few-photon states.
Multipartite quantum correlations, in spite of years of intensive research, still leave many questions unanswered. While bipartite entanglement is relatively well understood for Gaussian states, the complexity of mere qualitative characterization grows rapidly with increasing number of parties. Here, we present two schemes for transformations of multipartite permutation invariant Gaussian states by Gaussian local operations and classical communication. To this end, we use a scheme for possible experimental realization, making use of the fact, that in this picture, the whole N - partite state c…
An interferometric experiment is described that characterizes an optical cat state in a cavity mode. Our method describes how to measure the amplitude and phase of the different coherent states that make up the cat states. We show that using a recently proposed quantum nondemolition measurement technique, we can circumvent the problem of decoherence inherent in measurement involving superposition of coherent states.
We report on a novel experiment to generate non-classical atomic states via quantum non-demolition (QND) measurements on cold atomic samples prepared in a high finesse ring cavity. The heterodyne technique developed for the QND detection exhibits an optical shot-noise limited behavior for local oscillator optical power of a few hundred \muW, and a detection bandwidth of several GHz. This detection tool is used in single pass to follow non destructively the internal state evolution of an atomic sample when subjected to Rabi oscillations or a spin-echo interferometric sequence.
Quantum non-demolition (QND) measurements improve sensitivity by evading measurement back-action. The technique was first proposed to detect mechanical oscillations in gravity wave detectors, and demonstrated in the measurement of optical fields, leading to the development of rigorous criteria to distinguish QND from similar non-classical measurements. Recent QND measurements of macroscopic material systems such as atomic ensembles, and mechanical oscillators, show some QND features, but not full QND character. Here we demonstrate certified QND measurement of the collective spin of an atomic en…
We present a new indirect method to measure the quantum state of a single mode of the electromagnetic field in a cavity. Our proposal combines the idea of (endoscopic) probing and that of tomography in the sense that the signal field is coupled via a quantum-non-demolition Hamiltonian to a meter field on which then quantum state tomography is performed using balanced homodyne detection. This technique provides full information about the signal state. We also discuss the influence of the measurement of the meter on the signal field.
We propose a technique for measuring the state of a single donor electron spin using a field-effect transistor induced two-dimensional electron gas and electrically detected magnetic resonance techniques. The scheme is facilitated by hyperfine coupling to the donor nucleus. We analyze the potential sensitivity and outline experimental requirements. Our measurement provides a single-shot, projective, and quantum non-demolition measurement of an electron-encoded qubit state.
Quantum teleportation provides a "disembodied" way to transfer quantum states from one object to another at a distant location, assisted by priorly shared entangled states and a classical communication channel. In addition to its fundamental interest, teleportation has been recognized as an important element in long-distance quantum communication, distributed quantum networks and measurement-based quantum computation. There have been numerous demonstrations of teleportation in different physical systems such as photons, atoms, ions, electrons, and superconducting circuits. Yet, all the previou…
Qubit readout is an indispensable element of any quantum information processor. In this work, we experimentally demonstrate a non-perturbative cross-Kerr coupling between a transmon and a polariton mode which enables an improved quantum non-demolition (QND) readout for superconducting qubits. The new mechanism uses the same experimental techniques as the standard QND qubit readout in the dispersive approximation, but due to its non-perturbative nature, it maximizes the speed, the single-shot fidelity and the QND properties of the readout. In addition, it minimizes the effect of unwanted decay …
We propose a scheme for probabilistic teleportation of an unknown two-particle state of general formation in ion trap. It is shown that one can realize experimentally this teleportation protocol of two-particle state with presently available techniques.
We use photon pairs hyperentangled in polarization and orbital angular momentum to implement a novel entanglement-enhanced quantum state communication technique, known as SuperDense Teleportation, to communicate a specific class of single-photon ququart states between two remote parties, with an average fidelity of 87.0(1)%, almost twice the classical limit of 44%. We compare this technique with quantum teleportation and remote state preparation and show that SuperDense teleportation requires less classical information and fewer experimental resources. We discuss the information content of thi…
We propose a scheme for the detection of quantum phase transitions in the 1D Bose-Hubbard (BH) and 1D Extended Bose-Hubbard (EBH) models, using the non-demolition measurement technique of quantum polarization spectroscopy. We use collective measurements of the effective total angular momentum of a particular spatial mode to characterise the Mott insulator to superfluid phase transition in the BH model, and the transition to a density wave state in the EBH model. We extend the application of collective measurements to the ground states at various deformations of a super-lattice potential.
Quantum teleportation allows for the transfer of arbitrary, in principle, unknown quantum states from a sender to a spatially distant receiver, who share an entangled state and can communicate classically. It is the essence of many sophisticated protocols for quantum communication and computation. In order to realize flying qubits in these schemes, photons are an optimal choice, however, teleporting a photonic qubit has been limited due to experimental inefficiencies and restrictions. Major disadvantages have been the fundamentally probabilistic nature of linear-optics Bell measurements as wel…
We show that it is possible to perform a continuous measurement that continually projects a nano-resonator into its energy eigenstates by employing a linear coupling with a two-state system. This technique makes it possible to perform a measurement that exposes the quantum nature of the resonator by coupling it to a Cooper-pair Box and a superconducting transmission-line resonator.
The purport of quantum teleportation is to completely transfer information from one party to another distant partner. However, from the perspective of parameter estimation, it is the information carried by a particular parameter, not the information of total quantum state that needs to be teleported. Due to the inevitable noise in environment, we propose two schemes to enhance quantum Fisher information (QFI) teleportation under amplitude damping noise with the technique of partial measurements. We find that post partial measurement can greatly enhance the teleported QFI, while the combination…
In this paper we propose a scheme for partially teleporting entangled atomic states. Our scheme can be implemented using only four two-level atoms interacting either resonantly or off-resonantly with a single cavity-QED. The estimative of losses occurring during this partial teleportation process is accomplished through the phenomenological operator approach technique.
We push the limits of the direct use of partially pure entangled states to perform quantum teleportation by presenting several protocols in many different scenarios that achieve the optimal efficiency possible. We review and put in a single formalism the three major strategies known to date that allow one to use partially entangled states for direct quantum teleportation (no distillation strategies permitted) and compare their efficiencies in real world implementations. We show how one can improve the efficiency of many direct teleportation protocols by combining these techniques. We then deve…
I show that an experimental technique used in nuclear physics may be successfully applied to quantum teleportation (QT) of spin states of massive matter. A new non-local physical effect the `quantum-teleportation-effect' is discovered for the nuclear polarization measurement. Enhancement of the neutron polarization is expected in the proposed experiment for QT that discriminates {\it only} one of the Bell states.
An extensive debate on quantum non-demolition (QND) measurement, reviewed in Grangier et al. [Nature, {\bf 396}, 537 (1998)], finds that true QND measurements must have both non-classical state-preparation capability and non-classical information-damage tradeoff. Existing figures of merit for these non-classicality criteria require direct measurement of the signal variable and are thus difficult to apply to optically-probed material systems. Here we describe a method to demonstrate both criteria without need for to direct signal measurements. Using a covariance matrix formalism and a general n…
We study the possibility of performing perfect teleportation of unknown quantum states from multiple senders to a single receiver with a previously shared stabilizer state. In the model we considered, the utilized stabilizer state is partitioned into several subsystems and then each subsystem is distributed to a distinct party. We present two sufficient conditions for a stabilizer state to achieve a given nonzero teleportation capacity with respect to a given partition plan. The corresponding teleportation protocols are also explicitly given. Interestingly, we find that even mixed stabilizer s…
Quantum non-demolition (QND) measurement is a remarkable tool for the manipulation of quantum systems. It allows specific information to be extracted while still preserving fragile quantum observables of the system. Here we apply cavity-based QND measurement to an optical lattice clock---a type of atomic clock with unrivalled frequency precision---preserving the quantum coherence of the atoms after readout with 80\% fidelity. We apply this technique to stabilise the phase of an ultrastable laser to a coherent atomic state via a series of repeated QND measurements. We exploit the improved phase…
We report on the experimental quantum teleportation of strongly nonclassical wave packets of light. To perform this full quantum operation while preserving and retrieving the fragile non-classicality of the input state, we have developed a broadband, zero-dispersion teleportation apparatus that works in conjunction with time-resolved state preparation equipment. Our approach brings within experimental reach a whole new set of hybrid protocols involving discrete- and continuous-variable techniques in quantum information processing for optical sciences.
We propose and demonstrate an effective mode-filtering technique of non-Gaussian states generated by photon-subtraction. More robust non-Gaussian states have been obtained by removing noisy low frequencies from the original mode spectrum. We show that non-Gaussian states preserve their non-classicality after quantum teleportation to a higher degree, when they have been mode-filtered. This is indicated by a stronger negativity $-0.033 \pm 0.005$ of the Wigner function at the origin, compared to $-0.018 \pm 0.007$ for states that have not been mode-filtered. This technique can be straightforward…
In quantum information processing quantum operations are often processed alongside measurements which result in classical data. Due to the information gain of classical measurement outputs non-unitary dynamical processes can take place on the system, for which common quantum channel descriptions fail to describe the time evolution. Quantum measurements are correctly treated by means of so-called quantum instruments capturing both classical outputs and post-measurement quantum states. Here we present a general recipe to characterize quantum instruments alongside its experimental implementation …
Quantum teleportation, the process by which Alice can transfer an unknown quantum state to Bob by using pre-shared entanglement and classical communication, is one of the cornerstones of quantum information. The standard benchmark for certifying quantum teleportation consists in surpassing the maximum average fidelity between the teleported and the target states that can be achieved classically. According to this figure of merit, not all entangled states are useful for teleportation. Here we propose a new benchmark that uses the full information available in a teleportation experiment and prov…
We experimentally demonstrate observation of highly pure four-photon GHZ entanglement produced by parametric down-conversion and a projective measurement. At the same time this also demonstrates teleportation of entanglement with very high purity. Not only does the achieved high visibility enable various novel tests of quantum nonlocality, it also opens the possibility to experimentally investigate various quantum computation and communication schemes with linear optics. Our technique can in principle be used to produce entanglement of arbitrarily high order or, equivalently, teleportation and…
The quantum teleportation with noisy EPR state is discussed. Using an optimal decomposition technique, we compute the concurrence, entanglement of formation and Groverian measure for various noisy EPR resources. It is shown analytically that all entanglement measures reduce to zero when $\bar{F} \leq 2/3$, where $\bar{F}$ is an average fidelity between Alice and Bob. This fact indicates that the entanglement is a genuine physical resource for the teleportation process. This fact gives valuable clues on the optimal decomposition for higher-qubit mixed states. As an example, the optimal decompos…
A complete, non-demolition procedure is established for measuring multi-qubit entangled states, such as the Bell-states and the GHZ-states, which is essential in certain processes of quantum communication, computation, and teleportation. No interaction between the individual parts of the entangled system, nor with any environment is required. A small probe (e.g. a single qubit) takes care of all interaction with the system, and is used repeatedly. The probe-qubit interaction is of the simplest form, and only this one type of interaction is required to perform a complete measurement. The proces…
In the present paper, a novel bidirectional quantum teleportation protocol is proposed. By using entanglement swapping technique, two GHZ states are shared as a quantum channel between Alice and Bob as legitimate users. In this scheme, based on control-not operation, single-qubit measurement and appropriate unitary operations, two users can simultaneously transmit a pure EPR state to each other. While, in the previous protocols, the users can just teleport a single-qubit state to each other via more than four-qubit state. Therefore, the proposed scheme is economical compared with previous prot…
It is well known that entanglement is the resource of quantum teleportation. Teleportation can be accomplished using classical correlation (CC) with a teleportation fidelity (TF) upto $2/3$. In the present work we have studied TF, entanglement and CC in the presence of decoherence. We have found that significant increment of CC with respect to the strength of decoherence can lead TF in the non-classical region while entanglement is decreasing. We have also studied the protection of TF and entanglement using the technique of weak measurement and reverse weak measurement (WMRWM). Here we found t…
We introduce a novel minimally-disturbing method for sub-nK thermometry in a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC). Our technique is based on the Bose-polaron model; namely, an impurity embedded in the BEC acts as the thermometer. We propose to detect temperature fluctuations from measurements of the position and momentum of the impurity. Crucially, these cause minimal back-action on the BEC and hence, realize a non-demolition temperature measurement. Following the paradigm of the emerging field of \textit{quantum thermometry}, we combine tools from quantum parameter estimation and the theory of open…
We examine continuous-variable gate teleportation using entangled states made from pure product states sent through a beamsplitter. We show that such states are Choi states for a (typically) non-unitary gate, and we derive the associated Kraus operator for teleportation, which can be used to realize non-Gaussian, non-unitary quantum operations on an input state. With this result, we show how gate teleportation is used to perform error correction on bosonic qubits encoded using the Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill code. This result is presented in the context of deterministically produced macronode cl…
The development of techniques for manipulation of quantum information has opened the door to a variety of protocols for accomplishing unprecedented tasks. In particular, a new protocol of quantum teleportation was proposed in 2008 to achieve effective energy transportation simply via local operations and classical communication without breaking any known physical laws. This is achieved by extracting zero-point energy of entangled many-body systems by local operations dependent on information obtained by a distant measurement. The concept is reviewed from an introductory viewpoint herein.
We study the Kimble-Braunstein continuous-variable quantum teleportation with the quantum channel physically realized in the turbulent atmosphere. In this context, we examine the applicability of different strategies preserving the Gaussian entanglement [Bohmann et al., Phys. Rev. A 94, 010302(R) (2016)] for improving the fidelity of the coherent-state teleportation. First, we demonstrate that increasing the squeezing parameter characterizing the entangled state is restricted by its optimal value, which we derive for realistic experimentally-verified examples. Further, we consider the techniqu…
We introduce a protocol for authenticated teleportation, which can be proven secure even when the receiver does not trust their measurement devices, and is experimentally accessible. We use the technique of self-testing from the device-independent approach to quantum information, where we can characterise quantum states and measurements from the exhibited classical correlations alone. First, we derive self-testing bounds for the Bell state and Pauli $σ_X, σ_Z$ measurements, that are robust enough to be implemented in the lab. Then, we use these to determine a lower bound on the fidelity of an …
I propose to replace the dual classical and nonlocal channels used for teleporting unknown quantum states in the original protocol (OP) [Bennett, C. H., et al. Phys. Rev. Lett. 70 1895 (1993)] by either (i) one single quantum channel or (ii) two nonlocal channels in order to turn the OP into an all-quantum teleportation (AQT) protocol. Ideally, N runs of single channel AQT can be achieved with a single Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) pair, in contrast with the OP, which consumes N EPR pairs. In the two nonlocal channels proposal, Alice uses the superdense coding technique to send Bob her result,…
We propose a scheme to perform single-shot quantum non-demolition (QND) readout of the spin of an electron trapped in a semiconductor quantum dot (QD). Our proposal relies on the interaction of the QD electron spin with optically excited, quantum well (QW) microcavity exciton-polaritons. The spin-dependent Coulomb exchange interaction between the QD electron and cavity polaritons causes the phase and intensity response of left circularly polarized light to be different to that of the right circularly polarized light, in such a way that the QD electron's spin can be inferred from the response t…
It is commonly believed that the fidelity of quantum teleportation in the gravitational field would be degraded due to the heat up by the Hawking radiation. In this paper, we point out that the Hawking effect could be eliminated by the combined action of pre- and post-weak measurements, and thus the teleportation fidelity is almost completely protected. It is intriguing to notice that the enhancement of fidelity could not be attributed to the improvement of entanglement, but rather to the probabilistic nature of weak measurements. Our work extends the ability of weak measurements as a quantum …
We consider pure continuous variable entanglement with non-equal correlations between orthogonal quadratures. We introduce a simple protocol which equates these correlations and in the process transforms the entanglement onto a state with the minimum allowed number of photons. As an example we show that our protocol transforms, through unitary local operations, a single squeezed beam split on a beam splitter into the same entanglement that is produced when two squeezed beams are mixed orthogonally. We demonstrate that this technique can in principle facilitate perfect teleportation utilising o…
We present a continuous variable (CV) quantum key distribution (QKD) scheme based on the CV quantum teleportation of coherent states that yields a raw secret key made up of discrete variables for both Alice and Bob. This protocol preserves the efficient detection schemes of current CV technology (no single-photon detection techniques) and, at the same time, has efficient error correction and privacy amplification schemes due to the binary modulation of the key. We show that for a certain type of incoherent attack it is secure for almost any value of the transmittance of the optical line used b…
We employ the technique of weak measurement in order to enable preservation of teleportation fidelity for two-qubit noisy channels. We consider one or both qubits of a maximally entangled state to undergo amplitude damping, and show that the application of weak measurement and a subsequent reverse operation could lead to a fidelity greater than $2/3$ for any value of the decoherence parameter. The success probability of the protocol decreases with the strength of weak measurement, and is lower when both the qubits are affected by decoherence. Finally, our protocol is shown to work for the Wern…
Quantum teleportation is a fundamental concept in quantum physics which now finds important applications at the heart of quantum technology including quantum relays, quantum repeaters and linear optics quantum computing (LOQC). Photonic implementations have largely focussed on achieving long distance teleportation due to its suitability for decoherence-free communication. Teleportation also plays a vital role in the scalability of photonic quantum computing, for which large linear optical networks will likely require an integrated architecture. Here we report the first demonstration of quantum…
In this letter, we report a realization of synchronization-free quantum teleportation and narrowband three-photon entanglement through interfering narrowband photon sources. Since both the single-photon and the entangled photon pair utilized are completely autonomous, it removes the requirement of high demanding synchronization technique in long-distance quantum communication with pulsed spontaneous parametric down-conversion sources. The frequency linewidth of the three-photon entanglement realized is on the order of several MHz, which matches the requirement of atomic ensemble based quantum …
Reliable entangling gates for qubits encoded in single-photon states represent a major challenge on the road to scalable quantum computing architectures based on linear optics. In this work, we present two approaches to develop high-fidelity, near-deterministic controlled-sign-shift gates based on the techniques of quantum gate teleportation. On the one hand, teleportation in a discrete-variable setting, i.e., for qubits, offers unit-fidelity operations but suffers from low success probabilities. Here, we apply recent results on advanced linear optical Bell measurements to reach a near-determi…
Neutral atoms excited to Rydberg states can interact with each other via dipole-dipole interaction, which results in a physical phenomenon named Rydberg blockade mechanism. The effect attracts much attention due to its potential applications in quantum computation and quantum simulation. Quantum teleportation has been the core protocol in quantum information science playing a key role in efficient long-distance quantum communication. Here, we first propose the implementation of teleportation scheme with neutral atoms via Rydberg blockade, in which the entangled states of qubits can readily be …
Present schemes involving the quantum non-demolition interaction between atomic samples and off-resonant light pulses allow us to store quantum information corresponding to a single harmonic oscillator (mode) in one multiatomic system. We discuss the possibility to involve several coherences of each atom so that the atomic sample can store information contained in several quantum modes. This is achieved by the coupling of different magnetic sublevels of the relevant hyperfine level by additional Raman pulses. This technique allows us to design not only the quantum non-demolition coupling, but …
We demonstrate the design of an integrated conditional quantum teleportation circuit and a readout circuit using a two-dimensional photonic crystal single chip. Fabrication and testing of the proposed quantum circuit can be accomplished with current or near future semiconductor process technology and experimental techniques. The readout part of our device, which has potential for independent use as an atomic interferometer, can also be used on its own or integrated with other compatible optical circuits to achieve atomic state detection. Further improvement of the device in terms of compactnes…
Improving the probabilistic quantum teleportation efficiency of arbitrary superposed coherent state using multipartite even and odd j-spin coherent states as resource
